SCAM ALERT Today was my daughter's 8th birthday, so we decided to support a local business and take the kids to Swaders Sports Park for arcade fun. I purchased multiple game cards for my daughter and two other children so they could enjoy themselves and save up tickets for prizes. My daughter was beyond excited after landing the 250 bonus on the Big Wheel Spin game... but when we checked the card balance afterward, the tickets were completely missing. While trying to resolve the issue, an employee directed me to the manager -- described as a white-bearded gentleman. On the way to speak with him, we witnessed another child hit a 1000-ticket bonus on a separate machine, and those tickets also failed to register. When we informed the manager, his response was:"If you hit 1000, you should tell me immediately." I explained it had literally just happened less than a minute earlier. His response then changed to:"Well, it says you didn't even play that game." At that point, I made it clear that I'm someone with a public platform, and I fully intend to investigate whether this is simply a flawed ticket system or something much more concerning involving children and families losing earned prizes. To be fair, I want to mention that the majority of the staff were actually polite and friendly. My issue was specifically with the handling of the situation by management, which came across as dismissive and unprofessional. Also worth mentioning: the kid zone was closed for "maintenance" during the visit. Parents work hard for their money, and kids deserve to receive the rewards they fairly win. I'll be looking deeper into how this ticket system operates in a deep dive video investigation documenting this issue for the world to see. Had a really great time at Swader's today. The staff met us this morning and were welcoming and very professional. We came for business meetings and use their business area to conduct the meetings. The area was efficient and made useful for us to be able to do some planning. They had a variety of breakout areas that we could go to and do a deeper analysis for our projects. At lunch, we were able to be able to get some great food from the snack bar and be able to spend some time playing some of the games and different activities that were made available. If you and your work group need a place to have fun and collaborate, this is a great option. read more

My 6 yo old son had a good time. The only thing is the arcade is very expensive. The attractions are reasonable. The eatery only has one cook so long waits for food. And I didn't care for the food I got, burger and cheese sticks. Their pizza looks better. Maybe I'll try that next time. read more

We attended a birthday party here and have somewhat mixed feelings. Some things here are amazing and some are just slightly underwhelming. The first issue was that the birthday family had ordered a cheese and a pepperoni pizza each for the party, and the young lady who was hostessing the party said that they had messed up and done two pepperoni instead. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but a lot of the kids were complaining that the pepperoni they use is way too spicy. The hostess was very nice, but they mostly have teens working here (which makes total sense, of course), but a lot of them were way more concerned about hanging out and chatting than actually doing things. The party kept getting held up because the hostess would leave and not show back up for awhile. The mom ended up having to hostess, frequently saying things like "when the young lady gets back, we will be able to..." I kinda compare it to when we do Chuck E Cheese parties, where you also have a designated host for the party, but they serve the pizza, pour the drinks, dish up the cake, etc, without you having to chase them down or wait for them to show back up every time. It was a little disappointing. Some of the activities are awesome, you pay the same price for an attraction and then get to choose which one you want to use your credit on. The kid zone is GREAT. You get a wrist band and can come and go to the kid zone all day. The young lady working put the wrist band on waaaaaay too tight so we did have to remove it and I just held onto it after that, but the kids had a ton of fun on the huge play structure. I would recommend that they cut or tuck the loose ends of the zip ties that they attach the soft padding to the metal structure though, because I did notice quite a few pokes and scratches when kids bump into them. We wanted to do the mini bowling, which the kids love, but they only have 4 lanes and one of those was broken. Maybe when we go next time on a less crowded day. Mini bowling is somewhat worth the price. It is still about twice the price of regular bowling, but a lot of fun. Since they couldn't do the mini bowling, they opted instead for laser tag, which in my opinion was way overpriced for a 5 minute game. The equipment also seems to be all the same size, so your littler kids will be completely swimming in a heavy piece of equipment, while the bigger kids and adults, who all play at the same time, definitely have an advantage. The arcade isn't bad, with some really nice and amusing games, but I can't say that we particularly like the way the pricing goes. You put a money amount on the card, and each game costs a certain dollar amount. Things like the candy crane costs one dollar, and the large shooter games cost around $4. You have to check out every game to figure out how much it costs, and some of them are weird... $.75, or $1.25 and you have to search around a bit to not leave money on your card. A tiny complaint is that games like the candy crane should definitely be "play til you win". It is sort of frustrating that the kids would sometimes miss after spending $1, and not get anything, so they would spend a second dollar and get a single starburst. Considering that it probably cost about $.02 cents for a single piece of candy, I personally don't think it would hurt to make some of the games let the kids feel like they win every time. The venue itself was pretty clean and nice, and the kids did have fun, but we will probably only be back for things like the kids zone or maybe mini bowling on rainy or hot days. I really prefer to shop local when I can, but as the person who generally funds our family outings, the value just isn't enough to make me want to go here instead of mouse-themed chains if the kids want to go to an arcade or do pretty much anything other than the kids zone. read more

My husband and I just moved into the area and he said he's been here 10 years ago when he was doing MOS school out here. We came for the arcade games and mini putt, but decided to grab some food. I come up to the register and ask the cashier if I could get a hot dog, she replies with they "aren't making hot food at the moment". I didn't understand what that meant so I just ordered a slice of pizza. Then my husband tried to order a slice of pizza as well as fries. She said no to the fries because they weren't making "hot food". We just shrugged and said ok whatever. We grab our pizzas and as we sit down, we see another customer coming back from ordering with fries. As well as them announcing that someone with a cheeseburger and FRIES needs to pick up their order. Honestly, everything else was fun, I just really wanted to have a good time with my husband and play some games of golf. But that kinda pissed me off. It's a cool place to go in the area if you're looking for a variety of activities under one roof. My 9 ye old like playing in the Kid Zone as well as riding the go-carts the most. They also have bowling, arcade games, mini golf, and laser tag if that's your thing. The prices aren't bad. The food is ok too. The staff isn't the friendliest, but I guess I shouldn't expect much from teenagers who keep their cellphones in their hands the whole shift. Smh. the worst day ever , definitely not booking a 50 person birthday party there. the food manager had no control over his employees, we waited an hour for burnt food and then they replaced it with burnt food meanwhile 22 people were served , we were still waiting. the facility manager was belligerent, very inexperienced and huffed off , it is a hit or miss , there are very childish employees they behave like immature adolescents only one girl was kind and new how to communicate with the public, bothe managers, you could tell were very inexperienced and taking advantage of their jobs . goid thing we checked this place out first, they lost a lot of money treating us poorly. it's a hit or miss , not worth the money , for us, we will definitely be heading down to Richmond. this place was horrible. read more

I don't really know what to say about this place. I don't think they will be in business long unfortunately! They have many attractions that malfunction so you have to keep walking into the center to get staff to assist. We really enjoyed the go karts! However, the batting cages kept malfunctioning and ultimately only one or two cages were operating. The driving range machine wasn't working. Swaders is technically as good as it gets in our area, but I hesitate to give it 5 stars because I want them to add more attractions. Gone are the days that wandering around Southpark Mall is the only activity to do in the tri-cities. This is a great place to go with or without your kids and just have fun. They have really good packages that allow you to share with more than one player which I think is better than some places that make you use one package per person. I like getting the Home Run which is 4 attractions and a $12 arcade card. It is $30 but if you are military they give you a discount and then it is only $27. You really can't beat that price. The attractions are limited to Laser Tag, Go Karts, and Mini Golf. As I find mini golf a smaller version of the torture that is regular golf, I only use my attractions to do the Go Karts and Laser Tag which are fun. I hope that they invest in some more attractions at some point. The arcade is fun and you earn tickets on some of the games that you can redeem for prizes. I am not a fan of the food court area. I mostl buy drinks there, but it has good options for kids that don't seem to care much about food quality. read more

We arrived at about 130 pm on Friday and it was not very busy. There was no wait for anything. I came in with a 4 adults and 6 kids ranging in ages 3 to 15. We were able to get family package deals offered to be cost effective. All of the kids had activities that they were able to do. We played mini golf, rode go carts several times, played in the kid zone jungle gym, and a round of laser tag in addition to the arcade games. The facility was very clean and well put together. They offer both retro games and newer games which was great. Staff was very friendly. The only problem we really had was that when we came home we realized that one of the prizes one of the children won had many rips in it like it had been cut. read more

Swadders is the typical play park. It has go carts, laser tag, mini golf, food, batting cages, and an arcade. Go carts..four tracks- two need a drivers license, and two were shut down Laser tag..the kids seem to like it. They said it was bigger than other places we had gone before. However, the guy running it also played. He sat in the corner racking up points and beat everyone. I totally get it though! I love that high you get from out scoring a bunch of 12 year olds. Smh. Kiddie play place..I understand that nothing is free and the play place was no exception. It was the same price as all the other attractions though. There was a girl putting armbands on the kids that paid but she was only there half the time. Other kids were in and out without paying. I don't mind paying if everyone has to pay. There was seating for the parents to take a break. The sign says that the entire play place was viewable giving you the warm and fuzzies but I took my toddler inside and trust me, it..is...not. Arcade..make sure you take out a loan first. We only found a few games for 50/75 cents. Most games were $1/$2 and even $3! The ticket payout compared to how much you have to spend is not at all favorable. I love to play ticket games so it was disappointing. Even with the military discount, we ran out of funds pretty fast. The kids enjoyed themselves though. It's close to post but I think it's worth the drive to go somewhere more affordable. read more

They have a nice play area, decent video game area and a laser tag room, as well as a number of rooms for parties and a snack bar. I know there has been repairs and improvements going on with the driving range; however, I have been there four to five times during that period and had been able to use the driving range. It was one of the employees who remarked that understaffing caused problems with ball collection and replenishment. This is a great place for kids. They have everything you can imagine. They have an arcade area, batting cages, mini golf, kid zone, go-carts, bowling, and laser tag. The mini bowling alley and laser tag are awesome. It's a great place to visit for a family outing. We went to a birthday party this past Sunday. You have to walk around the corner for the party check-in counter which you would think would be when you first walk-in. The staff was friendly and helpful though. I do feel that they should have more staff for parties because we only had one staff member on this visit. There were also issues with some of the party members arcade cards not working. The arcade area works by using a card that is pre-loaded (similar to Dave n Busters). The various attractions do have height and age requirements so be sure to check before you purchase attractions.They offer several different packages outside of the party/event packages. The amount you spend depends on how many attractions you want to participate in. They do offer military discounts so that is a plus. I didn't eat anything on this visit but the do have a cafe area where you can purchase food, dipping dots, and etc. I will go back here for some family fun. *Only leaving a review for the putt putt golf courses* Came here with an Air Force friend late at night. The place was pretty empty, not many people were outside but a few were in the arcade. The golf courses themselves were nice, big and enjoyable. I liked that there were 2 courses to choose from, so we ended up doing both. The courses had a nice level of complexity to them. I'm not understanding some of the low reviews. In a small area like this Swaders offers ALOT to keep the kids busy during hot summer days and cool winter ones too. The staff seemed very friendly. We had trouble with our money on our game card and the cashier staff was great in helping to resolve the issue to our satisfaction! The laser tag team seemed a little lackluster but what can u expect, they work in the dark and are repeating the same instructions over and over. Snacks were pretty good. I took two of my students to Swaders to celebrate their graduation. After paying $60 for them to get the Ball Park passes, they were off to have fun. While there for two hours, they were unable to play Laser Tag as we were never told that there were specific times to do it (we were two of maybe six other people in the place) and they were unable to play mini-bowling because the machines were down. All-in-all, I was impressed with the facility, but felt that the employees lacked the gumption to ensure we had the best experience possible. read more

Great facility to accommodate people of all ages. I went here with my coworkers few days back and every really had a great time. There's a conference room upstairs you can rent, which we did to address work related issues, but afterwards we enjoyed the facility by paying for the $25 2 hour unlimited pass. This place has a driving range, go cart, mini golf, batting cage, and a huge arcade. It's easily to spend 2 hours here if you check out even half the facility. The golf course was pretty well kept and we had no issues. The go cart allows up to 12 people race at once so that was pretty cool too. The arcade has a huge variety of shooting games and family games that are very up to date compared to what you would see at places like Dave and busters. The facility also has a small snack corner where they sell pizza and drinks. Honestly this place is a great establishment to bring friends and family. Most likely will be back myself. read more

That did not happen at Swaders. I booked the banquet room for an hour. I did not get into the room to decorate until the time the party was starting. My "host" was to busy socializing at the desk with said manager to even decorate our room, bring our food, our ice cream, drink refills, etc. My guests did not have time to even eat before being rushed out of the room. We take our grand kids here and play some mini golf when the weather is nice. We haven't done any of the other activities here though. The little one's have a blast playing mini golf, when they get a little older we'll let them try some of the other stuff.
