Went in to get rid of hyperpigmentation and left with a 1st degree burn on my face and a jacked up hairline. Two days before Christmas. This is specifically a review for ipl, microneedling/dermaplaning. I first came to swan cosmetics for permanent eyeliner and had no issues. After getting my touchup, the owner pivoted to telling me I needed microneedling & dermaplaning. I have had hyperpigmentation around my mouth and chin that I wanted to get rid of so I decided to try it out. The first two sessions were fine. The third session was where the trouble started. I came in a few days before Christmas. First red flags were when the owner called me by the wrong name (Carla) and didn't seem to know anything about what she had done to my face before. She asked if it was my first time, I told her it was my third time getting the treatments, fifth time there in as many months. Once on the table, the owner started telling me she could permanently fix my hairline. I like my hairline and never mentioned wanting anything done to it, but she insisted she was doing light clean up. She brought out an ipl laser and said she wanted to test it. She didn't ask anything about what I use on my face, which afterwards I realized was another glaring flag. She said to let her know if i wanted to stop and she would. The first zap hurt but I thought i could handle it. She proceeded to zap me so hard I almost flew off the table. I immediately told her to stop I didn't want anymore. She said ok, she was just going to do one more thing as she turned another machine on and blew cold air on my face. She did not respect my request to stop and I was in so much shock I didn't know what to do. She proceeded to quickly use the machine on me SIX more times. Leaving a first degree burn on my head. I was in so much pain I was shaking and crying, still in complete shock. I know she knew she screwed up and kept applying cold compresses to my face and telling me everything would heal in two days. Then she quickly moved me to another room with my stuff for a blue laser. My face was in pain for a day. When I came out to go, she wasn't there to check on the burn on my face. No discount. No apologies. No explanation. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here if it was a person of color. The permanent cosmetics were fine but if you live in the city, Sage Cosmetics did an amazing job on my eyebrows, go there instead. The owner's preoccupation with upselling is a problem, especially because she doesn't seem to know how to care for darker skin and was out of her depth. She's either too busy to show a level of care or she just doesn't care. I have to wear a hat inside throughout Christmas because of the burns on my face. I don't even know why she thought it was ok to experiment on my face so close to a widely celebrated family holiday when photos will likely be taken. I'm so embarrassed and upset. Also she made my hairline look like Lebron James after his initial hair plugs. I also have little white bumps all over the lower half of my face. Fortunately the 1st degree burn on my forehead distracts from that... Hard pass. read more

Stay clear of this place. i had an appointment on July 28, 2022. My beloved pet was taken to Annapolis Emergency and a large mass was found, we were called back and told to come say our final goodbyes, we had to put him down (documented at 1:45pm). My appointment was for 2pm same day. We simply could not believe it. I advised Melba's (owner) Mom (MJ) through tears and disbelief. I was told basically too bad - Melba advised she loves animals and has a pet but can't let you off the hook for the $50 cancellation because she wants to be fair to clients who had to cancel. mind you, when i have come I typically tip her $50. For the moment for that, she expected me to come get a "refreshen up eyebrow tattoo" no matter what! A death, hospital stay, no matter what, she wants her money because she has bills to pay and she is a one woman tech! My corporate attorneys begged me to sue her and make her pay my legal fees because her policy cannot take precedent over an illness or death. I have had three appointments in total, once at her house and two at her new shop, I had a work emergency and was charged $50, no problem, another was a few minutes late because I could not find her house (I almost didn't go in because I do not do house locations), and this last time. She pointed this out to me and totally lied about me being late or canceling bc I told her I was contacting the Better Business Bureau! Can you imagine? She thinks its ok to treat clients this way and be successful. My family is still so very upset over our pet of 13 years passing unexpectedly and this woman has shown no compassion. Fan for life! First of all Melba is so friendly and explained everything is great detail. I'm a type A and want all the information and she eased every question and concern I had. She been doing PMU for 7 years and I'm felt very comfortable with our consultation and drawings. She is awesome!!! Not only are my brows thin but very uneven and Melba fixed all that. THIS WASN'T A GOOD EXPERIENCE!!!! I met Melba at her shop, and noted the many course completion certificates on her wall. Based on this info, I felt she knew what she was doing. I proceeded to show pictures and explain to her what I wanted, which were sleek brows with fairly straight sections producing a precise and somewhat angular look, that needed to be perfectly SYMMETRICAL. She tried to explain to me "best practices," which were said to be a more "curvy" look. She told me that if I age, the angular shape I requested wouldn't "look good." I resisted her logic because I knew what I wanted and SHE MARKED what I thought I was getting. Before she finished, she showed me the results and my brows were curvy. NOT AT ALL LIKE THE PHOTOS I SHOWED HER AND NOT SYMMETRICAL!!! When I inquired about the edge, she stated, "that's how I drew them out and you approved of this." I responded, "who would approve of this look?" After I began to cry, she attempted a "quick (albeit incredibly painful, even with the numbing cream)" correction with laser removal, which helped to cure a problem with an edge she created on the inner tip of the brow. I NEVER ASKED OR APPROVED OF MY EYEBROWS LOOKING LIKE THIS. When it had healed it was not even close to what I had asked for, and I actually spend more time (not less) on my makeup in the morning, trying to fix the BOTCHED work. When prompted, Melba refused to admit any shortcomings. In my experience, Melba really lacks necessary hand and art skills, and she pushes methods and shapes requiring less precision. I have elected to have this job repaired by a more capable artist. I am very sorry that I went to this shop!!!! Please save yourself some time and money and embarrassment! The business owner contacted me after I posted some negative reviews, insisting she does "good work" and has her clients contacting me now too because I wont take down this review. Very unprofessional and unethical. My pictures speak for themselves. I would never ask for this look. She then successfully tattooed new eyebrows with a more age-appropriate shape that also addressed my concerns for my hooded eyes.
