I had a great cosmetic tattoo experience at Sage! I had an appointment with Alyssa to get several beauty marks on my face, neck, and wrists. She was very warm and listened carefully to what I wanted, answering each of my many questions thoroughly. Beauty mark tattoos are done via stick and poke, as is the numbing agent they put in the area beforehand. She made recommendations on ink color and after making the initial ink poke she would stop, have me look in the mirror to make sure the placement was right, and then build on that to make the beauty marks fuller as I requested. My initial appointment with Jillian was great but my brows have since faded substantially and so I was looking forward to my follow up appointment. Unfortunately my job (I am in the medical field) pulled me to cover a day that was short staffed. I originally reached out via the website to reschedule but when I didn't hear back I then reached out via their Instagram page. Turns out their first reply ended up in my junk folder - long story short I'm being asked to repay the $150 deposit for asking to reschedule less than 72 hours before my original appointment. While I understand said policy is to protect these time slots and prevent lost revenue it's extremely frustrating for someone who sometimes has little control over their own schedule and works extremely hard to make a living. I've now paid $660 for brows that don't really look any different than before. read more

I would like to have a negative category for this experience. I made an appt for a lip tattoo. a while later, I got an email from the cosmetician telling me that she couldn't do that date and could we reschedule. we had a nice exchange and some trouble arranging a date. There are not a lot of openings because I believe the process is time consuming. I asked if flying the next day was a problem because if it was, id plan around an upcoming trip. I also asked, when I found out how far in advance I would be rescheduling, if there was someone else I should use. In the end we picked a date that seemed to work. about 10 days later I got an email asking me to send pictures of my lips because they had some complaints lately and wanted to be sure that I was a good candidate for the procedure. I sent the pictures as requested, and asked what they were looking for. a week later I got an email saying that since I wanted another technician I was clearly not a good candidate because I was unhappy with my technician. Therefore, they were cancelling my appt and I should find another salon. I have been purchasing services for more years than I care to remember. I am very loyal to the people who service me. I have stuck with my mani/pedi technician through four moves. Now I have a half hour commute instead of 5 minutes. But I consider her a friend. The same with hair, face etc. So to be rejected before I even had an appt? I have zero clue what this is about. I guess the technician I signed up for was insecure about me asking if I should find someone else there. I dont know any of them so. it was clearly not a personal slight. It was a request to help with the re-booking. And in the end we picked a date and were all set. And I sent the pictures as requested. So I have to say this is the most unprofessional experience of my consumer life! I have asked to speak to the owner, because I have owned a business in the past and would have been appalled by this customer service. I have never heard back. read more

This place is so great! First off, very COVID friendly, they make you wait in car and fill out paperwork & apply the lidocaine (which worked really well) for 30 mins. Jillian is an arTIST. She is incredibly talented and makes you feel totally at ease with what can be a scary process, if you're an eyebrow obsessed woman like most of us are these days. I cannot say enough good things about Jillian and my experience at her Sage Cosmetic Tattoo studio! Her studio space is extremely clean and beautifully decorated. Parking is available as well, which is a BIG BONUS in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore City. This was my first experience with microblading/tattoos of any kind, so I wasn't certain what to expect process and healing-wise. Jillian and I did a consultation over the phone and she walked me through everything and answered all of my questions. She's quite knowledgeable and VERY talented. She actually has a pretty impressive art degree, which I honestly think influences her ability to work with the structures and varying levels of symmetry on the face to arrive at a brow shape that really works for you. During my first session, Jillian took the time to map out my face and sketch out every detail of my eyebrows until we both felt the shape was perfect. For those of you worried about pain, Jillian slathers numbing jelly and waits a bit for it to actually take effect before starting the procedure. I felt absolutely no pain or discomfort whatsoever. She also goes over the healing process with you in detail. I'm glad I listened well to her instructions for healing because I actually had great color retention from my 1st session. By my 2nd session, Jillian was mostly just perfecting the shape and adding little details here and there, stopping along the way to let me have input on what else I wanted to tweak. My main goal of microblading was to have to use ZERO brow makeup...And I haven't been using any at all - NONE. Something that was pretty important to me was to be properly color-matched with ink. I have naturally black hair and eyebrows. Anyone who also has naturally black hair knows it's pretty much impossible to find the right color for brow makeup that's not too brown/not too gray/not too black. Jillian mixed up the perfect color combo for me that really blends in well with my actual eyebrow hair without looking drastic. Lastly, Jillian is great company; it's hard for me to believe that I've only known her since my 1st appointment in June 2017...When I talk to her I feel like I'm talking to a friend I've known forever!
