Now imagine you can find something quite close to that quality of service in a small, family-owned and operated business nearby, and at reasonably competitive prices. You've just found New Forest Valet. Honest. I've lived here in Arlington for oh ... thirty years or so, and this family and their loyal employees have been maintaining my business suits, shirts, table linens, draperies, and shoes for that long. I'd be lost without them. Be a customer for a while, and when you walk in they'll welcome you by name and ask what's new. Put your very best tuxedo, ratty old sports jacket, or heirloom lace tablecloth in their hands, and it'll come back radiant. You'll occasionally find three generations of family in this shop ... when the guys now in charge were kids, they used to mow my lawn. They were meticulous then, and they still are. Need it tomorrow? They'll do their best to accommodate you. Got a weird stain? If anyone can remove it, they can. Environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals? They use 'em. Minor tailoring? No problem. Shoe repair? They do it. Thirty years ago grandpa wrote your name on cardboard string tags. Today, it's all computerized throughout. Saw a review that they use environmental friendly chemicals so I stopped to drop off a few sites. They could not have been nicer and their dog is adorable (and friendly). However I met Chris who is the third generation owner who tools me they use perc (perchloroethylene). This is not an environmental friendly process and is considered by the EPA harmful. In 2008, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) suggested that PERC be classified as a "likely human carcinogen." Moreover, the EPA found that PERC's most dangerous noncancer toxicity is brain and nervous system damage -- and set safe exposure levels well below levels that cause such damage. But rather than finalize the ruling, the EPA asked the prestigious National Academy of Sciences to review it's PERC risk analysis and to tell the EPA if it's system for analyzing chemical risk was correct. the National Academy of Sciences says perc is a "likely human carcinogen." "Likely" means that while there's no definitive proof that the chemical causes cancer in humans, there's strong evidence it does -- and there's proof that the chemical causes various cancers in animals. Perc had worked well for 50+ years as a cleaner but as science has studied the effects, the industry had been moving away from perc. read more

I chose this place based on review on Yelp. It's out of the way from where I live and work, but I figured with stellar reviews, it would be worth it. I couldn't have been more wrong. I took two suits in to get dry cleaned. They looked great in the bags when I got them back. Upon further inspection ALL of the buttons on both my suits (jacket + pants) were smashed and chipped. I brought them back with spare buttons to have them re-sewn back on. They were very apologetic and informed me that shell buttons (the kind on my suit) are more fragile than standard buttons. I asked them if they put foil over the buttons to protect them, and they said "No." Chris, the owner's son, said they normally catch things like this. I understand people make mistakes, but you mean to tell me, you've been in business for 30+ years and didn't pay attention to what you were doing? Strike one. I shrug it off. I give them both my suits back and they replace my buttons. I get the suits back and the buttons on the jacket are sewn on wrong. Originally, the buttons on the sleeves of the jackets were stacked, that is to say, part of each button overlaps another. They sewed the buttons on side-by-side... and they don't even line up with the holes on the suit! The kicker to the entire thing is, they had to remove the buttons before sewing on new ones... you'd think they'd sew the new ones back on exactly how they came off, but no. It looks extremely tacky to have a button almost an inch off the hole. Strike two. As I keep inspecting their shoddy work, I noticed they sewed THROUGH the silk lining on the inside!! Not only that, they terminated the thread on the outside seams. You can lift up part of the jacket and see the knots they tied. This is blatant disregard to quality. Strike three. These people do not care about your clothes. You're better off spending your time and money elsewhere. I was always told: "Every dry cleaners sucks. It's just a matter of finding one that sucks the least." My search continues. read more

And I do mean Luckily.... Mainly because I have cats..... BAD bad kitty cats. They vomit and more recently one of them has begun spraying (PLEASE read my Yelp about Capital Cat Clinic). Are you familiar with the smell of cat urine? Hhhmmm.... Lucky you. Very graciously, NFV has accepted my fouled linens and returned them freshly restored. Pam, one of the original owners, is a great seamstress, should you need one and Chris, her son, is friendly, efficient and effusive. Guy, no relation to the aforementioned, is always willing to carry your belongings out to your car. Friendly, fast, efficient service. You might pay more than One Hour Martinizing but who can come come back in an hour anyway? Oh. And everything is done on-site. Trust me, this is a BIG plus. read more

Late on my review as Chris and his family and team have been, without a doubt, the BEST dry cleaners I have ever encountered. Why? 1. Gets out ANY stain, including blood. Don't ask. 2. Forest Valet is great; a little more expensive than some of the other places in Arlington, but you get what you pay for. If you actually want your clothing clean, well-cared for, nice people, and YOUR clothing back when you go to pick it up, then go to Forest! I lived in the Buckingham neighborhood of Arlington for 3 years but always brought my dry cleaning to a place in Clarendon until it closed. I decided to give Forest Valet a shot because it was so close to my home, and I was so sorry that I hadn't done so 3 years earlier. They are great! Incredible service at this family run business! They have never let me down. I go here for all alterations, any type of repairs, and, of course cleaning. Everyone is always friendly and ready to help if they are not already busy with a customer. My wife's favorite dress busted at a hem, and the delicate fabric started pulling away from the dress. Forest Valet said, "They'll see what they can do." THAT DRESS LOOKS LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED TO IT. It was perfect, I'm not sure how they do it, but it always gets done, right. Another dress' lace overlay snagged, ripped, and they fixed the lace. THEY FIXED THE LACE. DO MAGIC GARMENT GNOMES WORK THERE? Dresses with stains, stain gone. I fell down on wet asphalt in a dress shirt, tar stain gone (maybe it was tar). As far as prices they are very fair. Sure I was getting a fantastic deal somewhere else when the actual dry cleaners was my literal next door neighbor and we talked every morning. Highly recommended! They cleaned my wedding dress and did a wonderful job. I was nervous because it is far and away the most expensive garment I've ever bought, but they took great care of it. It cost $175, which is not inexpensive, but very cheap compared to the place that the store I bought it from recommended, which said that their wedding dress cleaning prices START at $300 and go up from there. The hem of my dress was very dirty, since it rained on my wedding day and we were outside, but they got it completely white again. This place came highly recommended by the Barcroft neighborhood list, and I can definitely see why. We don't have a lot of dry cleaning done, but we will definitely be bringing our important things here. read more

Unfortunately, Chris and his mother really think they are good at what they do, but they are 100% run of the mill. They intentionally deceive people by claiming everything is done in house by them, but it is not true because DRY CLEANING is outsourced. The van pulls up in the back with the deliveries. Having a sign that they are not responsible for broken buttons or damages should never be an acceptable policy of a quality cleaner. Since those type of items are outsourced I think they feel justified by posting it. When I brought up that other dry cleaners in the past have covered buttons with foil really rubbed them the wrong way after a never worn shirt came back with missing and cracked buttons, "no one does that anymore". They wanted to charge me for repairing it, maybe that is how they make money on the back-end? I had high hopes for them and was more than willing to support a local business even at a higher price, but they are average and simply going through the motions. I also get the sense that Chris does not want to be there - a recipe for disaster. Maybe customer service and pride were one time important qualities, but not anymore. read more

Simply the best. Not the cheapest but they don't need to be. My clothes are cleaned, pressed, and I'm always in and out of the store in 60 seconds. They know my name by heart and have done 24hr cleanings when I've been in a bind. Everyone who works there seems so genuinely happy to happy to work there. this has got to be one of the nicest, friendliest dry cleaners that i've ever been to. although it is a bit on the pricey side, you really get your money's worth here. its also a one stop shop - we got alterations, cleaning, and shoe repairs done all in one visit. all the spots that other places didnt get out, seemed to come out.apparently they do the most perfect pants pressing. the alterations were great. the shoes were all fixed and cleaned (they were extremely dusty and needed a cleaning). while we spent a lot of money on everything, we were more than happy with the service and plan to go back in the future. read more

Stellar place. They are family run and treat you like family after you start going there a few times. Always had lollipops for the kids. Super helpful, they said they would bring the clothes to my house in Arlington Forest if I was so busy and couldnt happen to get back in a particular week. They also said they would carry it out to the car if I couldnt get all 3 kids out of the car to pick up my clothes. I didnt take them up on this but the offer was great, and I saw them doing it for other people. Shirts were done right, and they did a superior job on my valuable collectible hockey jerseys bringing them back to beautiful perfection and getting rid of sweat stains that had been there for more than a year. I would highly recommend this place, especially for anybody with valuable or sentimental clothes like jerseys and wedding dresses.
