I needed to get some protective soles added to my sandals, and found Swanson's shoe repair, a family owned shop that's been around in Wallingford forever. It was such an easy process with very affordable prices ($40 for protective soles). They even color matched for me and gave me recommendations on what I should and should not add a sole to (they said it's unnecessary to add to the heel and that other shops will tell you to do it just to upcharge you). I dropped them off and was given an estimate, but it was ready way before the estimated time. I was given a slip to retrieve my shoes when I checked out which I easily did after they texted me that my shoes were ready for pickup. I even texted back saying I was out of town and they replied saying it was no problem and to get it whenever I was back. It looks nice and secure and I can't wait to wear them for summer! Swansons is the best shoe repair I have found in the greater Seattle area. It can often be a 1 month turn around and they are closed on Sunday and Monday. They do have the best quality repairs and value in this economy is hard to gage. I have brought red wing boots to Swanson Shoe Repair multiple times now. The boots get heavy wear from iron working. They are great at both outsole replacement and top tier hand stitching (I'm sure other things too but that's our primary need). Complete waste of money ruined 2 pairs of 1k dollar tabis and when asked for a refund gave me $40. Took three weeks to do and did it wrong. Places in a NYC will do it in a week and get the cobbling correct. Shipping it over to New York would be quicker. Don't waste your time or money on this place. Also his train of logic was that if "I wasn't going to sell them then it doesn't matter" verbatim. Complete disregard for branding and taste of the shoe is very rookie. Damaged my shoes. When I picked them up after 3-4 weeks in the shop, there were hardened glue drips along the soles of my shoes. The person helping me didn't catch the quality issue (or tried to ignore it) and was surprised when I pointed it out. He asked me to return in a week because he didn't have time to work on them while I waited. When I returned for the pick up, I noticed that areas of my soles were damaged. The person working on them said he had to be aggressive with the shoes to get rid of the adhesive. "He stated that if the shoes ever needed repair again to talk to the shoe manufacturer about the warranty". In other words, "Please don't return". I have had lots of shoes repaired over the years (not at Swanson) without the quality issues or disrespectful attitude. read more

I bought Redwings not too long ago, fell absolutely in love with them, and then was super disappointed when the heel pads wore completely down in three months. Even though they were under warranty, I figured putting the same pad back on would result in more disappointment. I didn't know where to go, no one I knew was thrilled with their cobbler. Swansons was close and had decent reviews so I surrendered my every day boot to the unknown. My boots were ready a week earlier than they said it would be and the pads are exponentially better than the originals. So stoked. They also fixed the visual damage to the wooden heel. They ALSO have a great selection of laces and I was able to pick up the specific length laces my boyfriend hadn't been able to find for his boots elsewhere. I am writing yet another review of this amazing shoe repair. I had a pair of Prada slip on boots that I thought were beyond repair. They had a weird rubber sole that was worn through revealing that it wasn't a solid rubber sole at all. I took them in thinking that they were beyond salvation, and yet again the repair people were able to resole them with even a better product than the original. They are now like new. If I can give this place zero stars I would. My puppy chewed up my heels so I went here to get them fixed. They charged me $100 to fix bit marks. They said it would be ready in a week and a month later is when I finally got them. They are horrific. There's still bite marks on them and the heel isn't the same color. I brought in a pair of leather dress boots bc the zipper has been failing and needed to be replaced. The person who attended me was very helpful and suggested that they'd first try with replacing the defective slider instead of the whole thing, which would have been the more affordable option ($35 vs $80-something). They had the shoes back to me within a week. I have a pair of brown leather FRYE I've become quite fond of and the bottoms started to split from the boot. I brought it in and they told me the stitch was not the whole bottom but they could repair it. I agreed and 3.5 weeks later pick them up today. It took longer than excepted but I'm sure it was because of the thanksgiving holiday and they are really busy. They were still very friendly. I took 5 pairs of shoes and boots and a purse in for repairs recently. I picked them up today and they all look great. They did a really good job. I live all the way North in Lynnwood, but I take my shoes and boots to Swanson's for repairs because they do the best job of anyone in the area. I moved from Seattle to Lynnwood a few years ago and have tried 2 places in the Lynnwood area but their work was not as professional as Swanson's. My heel tip fell off one of of my high heel shoes and I didnt realize it until an hour before my event! Wow. I've uploaded pictures ( /\ click above ) of what my boot heels looked like AFTER service at Swanson's. Either something has changed with the quality of this place, or my expectations were way, way off. Admittedly this was my first time to a shoe repair establishment. Perhaps my expectations were too high. What did I expect? Not sure; a restoral of my boots' unwrapping leather heels, certainly. And maybe I wanted the heel to look like new, or at least, a repair job that wouldn't call attention to itself. This place not only Yelps very well, but it's been raved about by people I personally know, both on Yelp and beyond, so I really had no reservations taking my best boots, ones I purchased in Italy years ago, and love better than any other boots I've seen since, into Swanson's to have them fix the leather-wrapped heels which were wearing away and showing the plastic structure beneath. Have a look at the photo to see how it was "repaired." These are not suitable to be worn, any more than they were when I brought them in. Not only are there wild color variations and a very botched and sloppy-looking re-cover job on both heels, but there are STILL BALD SPOTS in them and the white plastic clearly shows through. How they could have estimated this to be a serviceable repair is very confusing to me. First, they do not take any kind of plastic, so having arrived to discover that I needed fifty dollars or so in cash was annoying. As anyone who's read my reviews knows, I find this practice infuriating, and would prefer an option to pay the service fee myself rather than pay that service fee to the bank--invariably not MY bank--that will charge me a "convenience" fee for the "convenience" of walking four blocks before work so that I can take cash out to pay this merchant who refuses to pay its service charges. Sigh. But anyway, I reasoned it was a small annoyance given that my beautiful boots were finally going to be fixed and wearable again. Returning breathless from the semi-jog to and from the bank, I took the shoes, bundled into a wrinkled old paper bag, and headed home. I was actually shocked to see this workmanship when I withdrew them from the bag at home. I called them to say so, and they did say, rather blithely, "K. Bring them back." So that's to their credit. But if they thought THAT was "good enough," I'm not sure their best effort could rise even to "adequate." Maybe it's much, much harder than I realize to fix a boot heel. I truly am out of my depth; maybe it's harder than reattaching a limb, and the technology just isn't there. I don't know. I guess you'll just have to check out the pictures and decide for yourself if it's worth it to bring your shoes in here. read more

Seemed like the Yelpers loved this place, so I decided to give it a shot since I am new to the area. They said it would take about 3 weeks to work on the heels of 4 pairs of shoes. This seemed slow to me compared to other cobblers I have used, but I thought that they would go above and beyond to get the job done right. I could not have been more wrong. They replaced the heel tips and patched up the shoes (poorly). For one pair of heels, they replaced the tip and did not bother to make sure the heel was properly flush and trimmed. They did not even bother to shine or clean the sole! I was going to give the business 2 stars for doing the absolute minimum work, but when I got home I noticed what occurred with my suede boots. These were essentially new and now looked like they had been drug through a pile of dirt. Incredibly disappointing service. Cash or check only. read more

I brought my Birks here to get resoled. The folks who I dropped offto were pretty nice and gave me a ticket then let me know when to return. My shoes were ready a few days before they said they'd be which was awesome! The soles looked great, they tried to clean the tops which I appreciate but they felt a little rough. I'm guessing they tried to sand off my greasy footprint. I appreciated it. They also resealed my sandals which was nice! There was a lot on some parts but it's clear and it's extra protective. I'd absolutely bring my shoes back because it's way cheaper to get them resoled than to get new ones. read more

I had snapped the heel off of one of my pumps and brought them in here on the off chance they could do something... the gentleman working took my shoe apart in front of me in a snap, and knew exactly what was wrong. For a pair of 10+ year old leather boots, they replaced the heels and polished them. They look brand new now!

You can see pictures of my boots in the photos - basically, I killed some leather soles by wearing them in the rain and elements of Seattle w/o proper protection. Wore holes through the soles, broke the heels way down, rubbed off all the rubber from the 1/2 heel. I was considering buying a new pair, and I talked to the folks at Swanson's about it... They were reasonable, but thought I should try to save them, so I did. And they did a killer job. This is light colored leather, and they matched the old leather soles perfectly, rebuilt heels, and added rubber on top of the leather to protect them from the elements. Also I had some deep stains, and they really cleaned up the boots. Great stuff, and for around $90 (which is about $100 less than I was looking at for replacement boots!) Great overall. It did take two weeks - but they are popular! what are you going to do? Can't fault them for that.
