I've had several contacts with Dave Page. You will get unvarnished truth, boot-wise, from him. If he tells you that your boots are not worth working on, they're not. When the frozen body that was suspected to have been that of early mountaineer Edmund Mallory (?) was found, having been on ice for the better part of a century, it was Mr. Page that was consulted to authenticate that the boots were of the right age. I brought a pair of custom-made boots to him, as they appeared to be falling apart way too soon. Mr. Page frowned at the boots, said he recognized the cobbler's work, and told me he wouldn't touch them. "Can't fix 'em," he said. "Take him to Small Claims Court. And if I do any work on them, it'll ruin your case." I took in a pair of Vasque boots, made by Red Wing, that was in need of resoling. "They're not worth resoling," he pronounced. I took his word for it. I ran into a guy in the Enchantments, had to be in his eighties, told me of the peaks within visual range that he'd done first climbs of, way back when. I didn't doubt him, he looked tough as he scrambled up the route from Colchuck to Asgard Pass with a lot more ease than I was. He asked me where I was from. "Seattle." "Really? Seattle? Do you know Dave Page? Wow--he lives in your town! How lucky you are!" Most recently, I took a relatively new pair of Cresta boots, sold by LLBean, just to see if Mr. Page approved. He hefted them, nodded in recognition. "I've been to the factory where these were made [I believe he said in Romania]. They do good work. You'll be very happy with these." I got 2 pairs of Miura VS climbing shoes resoled here and they came out totally bungled, and the customer service was worse. Climbing shoes are supposed to have nice sharp edges. My Miuras came back as worse than when I sent them in, as both pairs came back reshaped to have a ROUNDED edge with the bottom of the shoe also sanded round. When I wrote with photos to complain, I got the verbal equivalent of a shrug and no further response. Sure, their turnaround time was lightning fast compared with dedicated climbing resole shops like Yosemite Bums or Rock and Resole, but never again because it absolutely was not worth it. read more

Not often I find myself logging into Yelp.. but just trying to save you some time here and help you avoid the headache I went through. 3/31/25 - dropped the boots off. They didn't care that I even walked in the door. Took 5 minutes for someone to even stop working and come over to me. Multiple people looked up and glanced at me. Was told they were backed up, and it would take until 4/14. 4/14/25 - "Our machine is down, it will take a bit longer. Call back in another two weeks." Customer service on the phone was pretty bad. 5/1/25 - Still broken. 5/15/25 - Still broken, but able to do some boots, should be done in a week. Sounded really annoyed that I had called yet again. 6/3/25 - Gave them TWO weeks, and decided that I wanted my boots back. I go in person, and guess what.... still not done! But this time, "by Friday they SHOULD be done". Yeah, I don't believe you at all. If your machine is broken, FIX IT, OR CALL YOUR CUSTOMERS TO LET THEM KNOW YOU'RE UNABLE TO REPAIR THEIR BOOTS. I've never seen a business less interested in accepting a job. Stopped by about 15 minutes after their advertised opening time. I walked in and the woman behind the counter had her back to the door. She tuned over her shoulder, rolled her eyes, and said she'd be with me in a minute. When she eventually came to the counter I told her I needed new soles on a pair of boots. She couldn't quote me a price and said the guy who could wasn't in yet because they just opened. Ok. She took my boots and info and said they'd call later that day with a price but the repair would take a long time because they are short staffed. No one ever called with a price. The Scarpa website recommended several cobblers that repair hiking boots. Sent my Kailash Trex GTX boots to Dave when the outsole began to separate from the boot. Easy process to send them across the country, and fair price. Boots were returned right on schedule and looked great. Wore them every day for several months and a little bit of separation happened at the front of the boot. Dave said send them back. I'm going to start with I know nothing about shoes but this place always does an excellent job! I've never been to any other shoe repair shop in the area, but it's because this place does excellent work. The work is exceptional, the price is a little steep but the quality of repairs and the homey atmosphere makes it worth it. Depending on your repair it can take about a week, for me I commonly drop off my climbing shoes and can expect excellent work done in under a week. Overall I'm not sure how other places would be compared to this but know I always have excellent work done here! read more

I have been going to Dave Page Cobbler since I moved to Seattle almost two decades ago. I really beat up my boots--lots of hiking and back country scrambles seem to do a number on boots--and Dave Page has, most of the time, been able to resole my boots, and on some occasions repair them (e.g., rips, punctures, etc.). Their work is generally exceptional. The latest boots I took in just a couple of days ago were resoled (the boots were only about 3 years old, top end, so gives a sense of how hard I am on them), and the soles that they put on my boots were *better* than the factory ones. I mean, I was completely stunned when I saw the boots when I picked them up. Excellent workmanship on their part. A few years ago, there was a pair of boots I wanted to resole, and it just wasn't possible. A number of low-end hiking boots these days have soles that aren't replaceable. On their advice, my next boot purchase (the ones I have now) were resoleable (verified by REI). I won't make that mistake again (thanks to Dave for the recommendation). Now, customer service: it is really up and down, and frankly the only reason I ding them. Dave himself is older than dirt, and cranky as hell. If you happen to get him at the customer service counter--you won't always, but it is possible--he won't be nice about how you might be abusing your boots. If he complains about the inserts not being removed, take it in stride. If he complains about other things you've done wrong, just swallow your pride. He does, in fact, know what he's talking about, and I have usually taken his advice to heart. I just wish he were a little nicer about it! Anyway, the last time I was there, I was trapped in line behind a customer that couldn't take "no" for an answer (why can't you repair these crappy old boots?), and Dave came from the back of the shop to help me. He, of course, complained about me not removing my inserts. (Rookie mistake with him on my part.) Then he wrote up the ticket putting the day I dropped the boots off on the ticket. He told me the boots would be ready in a week. Turns out the date they're *supposed to* write on the ticket is the date of pickup not the date of drop off (how could the owner himself make such a mistake? :) ). Not really a big deal except when I called about my boots they couldn't find my them. Turns out they'd been binned under the drop-off date rather than the delivery date. Took a couple of calls, but they finally found them. A bit of a pain. And completely unnecessary. Dave--of course, I talked with him--was completely pissy about me not reporting the correct date (when it was really his mistake the whole time!). Like I said, take Dave in stride. He really is an incredible craftsman. Just cranky as hell. (Funny, when I was picking up my last pair of boots, when I told them how good the work was, pointing out that they were better than new, Dave was behind the counter and just shrugged his shoulders. I guess he already *knows* that he's that good.) read more

My friend and i both sent our Hanwag boots here for resole. Both of us had the same result. The rand was pulled down so hard at the toe that each of us lost a half to full size. The sole itself looked great but they are now unwearable. A lot of money for that outcome. I will not use them again, obviously. read more

I dropped off my pair of men's loafers (Mezlan $325 new) to have resoled and heals. I was told that they would polish the shoes as well. I was told it would cost $110 plus tax. When I went to pick the shoes up, they clearly were not polished. They even still had glue on the leather upper shoe. I also noticed 4 staples in each heal. Several of the staple were protruding. I asked the lady waiting on me if the staples would mar hardwood floors. I was assured they would not. I have never seen anyone attach the heals with staples. That is just so amateurish. Just got my boots back. They were pretty beat up, the soles were shot, and now they look almost new. So happy to have the boots back that fit my feet well. These should give me quite a few more years out of them and a lot cheaper than buying a new pair... about 1/4 of the cost. read more

Dave replied promptly to my request for the cost to resole my Asolos, charged a reasonable price, turned around the boots in a few weeks and even put the remaining bottle of Nikwax used on my boots in the shipping box. My boots were shipped back to me before the expected date, completely repaired and rejuvenated beyond my expectations. The attention to detail in the repair work is ..... beyond words. Although the boots were an expensive/high-quality pair, their soles were made of a strange material that became gummy during a couple of years, and rotted to the point of making the boots unusable. I hunted on line for a pair of Fabiano Rias, which I love, and did find a pair; near mint. There was a wear pattern in the soles different from my foot strike and so wanted them re-soled. This cobbler had good reviews so decided to send them of (from N.H. to Wa.). I got them back and someone wasn't paying attention and cut into the side of the boot while sanding down the edge of the new soles. I am VERY disappointed. I brought it up and was told to send them back. No offer to pay shipping and how do you put back leather sanded off? You don't; you just wax and polish... I can do that quite well. Thanks guys! I still can not believe how great my SCARPA boots turned out. After twenty years, they're brand new again. Very precise glue lines and very minimal scuffing to the leather uppers during the refurbishment of the soles with a new scarpa M4 vibram outsole. They used a genuine scarpa outsole and knew exactly which soles fit my boots. I couldn't be happier with the results. I am so impressed with how closely the glue lines exactly match the contour of the outsole against the upper. Brought a nice leather bag here with the hopes that they would be able to sew in a more sturdy magnet closure since the ones that came in the bag were not strong enough to keep my laptop in. They immediately identified the appropriate type of clasp that would leave the smallest footprint on the bag. Gave me a reasonable quote and told me to come back in a week, as is their policy. My first impression was that Dave seems like a to the point guy who knows what he is talking about. I brought in a pair of Scarpa Vapor V's that I had worn through the entire sole and had even begun to destroy the leather in the toe. Dave was upfront about what it would cost to fix the damage and could cost if the leather needed to be fixed and told me the shoes would be done in a week. I came back in a week and I was happy to find out the leather had survived the journey and that I would be spending less on my resole than anticipated. Climbed in the gym a few minutes later and the shoes edged and smeared really well. I'll know more about how they wear in the next few months but either way I'm happy to avoid spending the money on a new pair of shoes and can avoid these ones ending up in a landfill for a while longer. In the past I have sent my shoes off for a resole out of state. Waiting over a month for a middling resole wasn't something I was trying to do again. If you're looking to have hiking boots re-soled, this is the place! I have some 12~ year old La Sportiva boots that need new soles, and I contacted almost all the cobblers on the West Coast that were listed on La Sportiva's web site. Most of them only repair rock climbing shoes, others were gone hiking the PCH for the summer, and the typical turnaround time for any of them was 6+ weeks! When I found Dave Page's site I thought it was too good to be true. First I emailed them photos of my boots. They responded with a fair estimate, and I then I gave them a call to get some more details about the process. I sent them my boots, and I received them back in about 2 weeks from the day I shipped them! They did an INCREDIBLE job, and replaced the original soles with new, identical, La Sportiva branded soles. And the rand repair is better quality than the original! The price wasn't necessarily cheap, but worth it for the high quality & craftsmanship ... and not having to break in a new pair of boots! I'm a big advocate of repairing vs replacing, and I'm confident these boots will last me at least another 12 years with these soles. I received my boots yesterday, just in time, gave them some Nikwax, and we are heading off to Mineral King today. I can't wait!! Thank you!! read more

The staff member who assessed my two well-used hiking boots/shoes was informative and helpful. They were honest that fixing the boots was not feasible but the hole on the side of my Salomon hiking shoots could be fixed with a $15 patch. I also took in a pair of WORN birkenstock Arizona soft bed sandals, and to fix everything but the straps cost ~$90. The sandals look new and the shoes are good as new! Took them around a week but didn't hear from them so went a few weeks later and they kept them safe till then. Highly recommend and will be returning! read more
