Mary" Not being able to work with a potential client because you have too much work? Totally understandable! She apologized for the poor communication, which I appreciate--though I'm not sure why the administrative assistant (whose role I assume is to communicate/schedule on behalf of the accountant) is less communicative than the accountant herself? They are very responsive when trying to get your business, but as soon as you pay they disappear off the face of the earth. I have no idea what the status of my tax return is, nor whether the proper returns were even filed. One of the state tax departments reached out to me asking me to pay more and Dimov tax will not even confirm whether they filed that return, nor advise me on what should be done. The "administrative assistant" assigned to my case has not responded to my emails for a week, and when I try to call her it instantly gets sent to voicemail. I'm not sure what kind of people get 5-star treatment here, but it's certainly not everyone. In the past, we've also tried to schedule calls due to difficulty communicating and getting answers over emails, but the staff made it extremely difficult to do so, asked for what our questions were over email, and then gave non-answers to the questions and cancelled the meeting saying that the questions were already answered. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that it was peak tax season when we reached out and hence we had difficulty reaching them, but the pattern is very clear: when they want payment, they will respond; after payment is given, service drops to almost zero. I would highly advise you to stay away from this business.

They took the money out of my bank account with no authorization, notice or invoice. When I questioned them about the charge they were unwilling to come to any agreement about how to resolve the situation and instead threatened to send the amount to collections. Our tax situation was growing in complexity year over year and we decided it was time to find a new firm to help manage our taxes. We settled on GPL. They were also enlisted to help resolve a notice from the IRS with which we disagreed and had supporting documentation. After the kickoff meetings, with all the attendant pleasantries, we never received any substantive communication from them. Repeated requests for status were met with "yep, still on it, I don't know what's going on over there, crazy right ..." This went on for well over a year. This is not an exaggeration. (And in the background we're getting notices from the IRS of mounting penalties, failure to act, etc.) Looking back, their communication was just enough to keep me from pulling the plug and starting over with someone else. I should have gotten out sooner. Going with GPL was a monumental mistake and it was a waste of our time and money. I get the distinct impression that bigger clients (the ones that don't know or care just how much they are overpaying for their service) will do alright with these guys. Otherwise GPL is a liability. Don't risk it.

In my opinion, Kris's strengths are that not only is she a CPA, and an Enrolled Agent (EA), but she is also personable and approachable. I also believe I went through 4 different CPAs from my original chat in March to Now September 2023. Don't believe the hype. Find a local CPA who actually cares. I never feel rushed or anything like that. A reminder is sent in December to let you know that you should schedule an appointment or upload all your documents to the SmartVault before the appointment or as a substitute for your appointment. Smart Vault is where they store all your past tax documents, which comes in handy if it's ever needed. This year, I decided to explore the other options and utilized the SmartVault option, so all I had to do was upload all my documents and just wait until Joe get a chance to process it. Joe called me with additional questions. After all said and done, he sent me notification that it's ready to file, and all I had to do was reviewed, signed, scanned, and upload to SmartVault for filing. The invoice for the service is also included, and you can make a payment over the phone with Sally. This is so convenient, and such an innovation way to do your taxes without having to leave the comfort of your home and fight traffic. Super awesome!
