Stayed at the Baymont across the street from this place for 3 nights. Ate here 3 nights in a row. I travel for work. I wish there was a Sweet Basil in every hotel parking lot. Overall nice - not sure it's "fine dining" as advertised. It's a little pricey too. Within our party, my potato soup was good, my dinner (prime rib) was also just good but no aujus given. There were a few other hick ups, and several suggestions/feedback given that should have been reported up the chain & hopefully will be addressed to improve ambiance & service. As a newly reopened restaurant, especially one directly across from a hotel, this location should do well if they make a few adjustments. I wish this establishment best of luck! read more

Friends took me here for my birthday thinking it was a little more upscale in Plymouth. The only thing upscale is the prices! Seated by a man with dumpy clothes and crocs on, I should have just left at the point, but I wanted to give it a try. Got the special of the night, chicken cordon bleu. The dish was barely edible. The evening started promisingly with a beautiful presentation of bruschetta, which was delicious. The meatballs were enjoyable but underwhelming. The first major disappointment was the $18 serving of potatoes containing two tendrils of octopus, which was returned to the kitchen uneaten. The bronzini I ordered was delicious. Unfortunately the rest of my party had ordered pasta dishes, all of which looked delicious but were overcooked. Despite being ordered with extra garlic, the squid ink pasta was flavorless, and otherbthan a couple of bites Despite the mushy, overcooked pasta, the chicken in 2 of the dishes was tough and dry, one left untouched. The 3 servers were clearly overworked, and when our server finally returned, our party had finished eating what they could. Despite our complaints to the server, no manager visited out table, even after we complained at the mere 10% reduction off our bill which did not even cover the uneaten appetizer, no less the two inedible entrees. As folks who eat out at least once a week, traveling across several states, this was the most disappointing meal in several years. We came here looking for a decent meal after unloading the cars for a weekend at Road America. We were not disappointed, my wife loved the wild mushroom risotto, and I had the braised short rib over pasta. Both tasty. New owner from Albania--very welcoming. We dined here this past Friday night (April 2025) and had a great experience, though it was surprisingly empty for 6:30 pm! We had the basil tomato soup, Midwest twist (HUGE pretzel), fish fry and salad with salmon. The fish fry was really good, salmon also good considering it was just a salad add on. Pretzel was embarrassingly humongous and couldn't even make a dent. Soup was delicious! The entire section of the menu could be a bit bigger, quite limited options especially for vegetarians. Big mistake, never going back. First off, don't order the Cajun pasta. I'm no chef but I make a much better Cajun pasta myself. Imagine someone just puts a thin layer of sauce on the plate and dumps plain macaroni on top. No flavor, no seasoning and not much sauce. It was just slightly more flavor than plain cooked pasta. The shrimp had seasoning on it but that's the only thing flavored. The waiter we had was a man with a British accent who started off apologizing for the wait, no water and even said something to the effect of "it's hard to find good help these days" but decided instead of doing better for the rest of our meal it was going to continue to get worse. We were nothing but patient and understanding the entire hour and a half we were there. At one point he spent at least 20 minutes talking to another table while completely ignoring our table. This place was not busy at all, half the place was empty. No reason at all for the poor service or lack of service at all. Everything has to be asked for,... Water, oil for the bread (every other table had it), drink refills, water refills, a steak knife for my friends pork chop (the waiter said he would bring it but forgot), even at the end they didn't bother to ask if we wanted dessert. Turns out they were running out of desserts anyway. This was a Saturday night around 6:30 when we arrived and right from the start they were out of calimari appetizers. Not having calimari wasn't bad enough but they actually tried to charge us for it. Had to send the check back to remove the non existent calimari. We were a table of four, two couples, separate checks. They had both of our checks mixed up. One other waitress spent a heck of a lot of time with her table chatting (pretty sure they were related) wasn't our waitress but when you are getting such poor or non existent service it tends to upset you to see other staff being over chatty while you are completely neglected by the waiter you had. The entire staff knows how bad we were neglected,... So much so the possible manager told us our waiter had a friend or family member pass away a week ago so that should excuse the poor service. Here's an idea,... Instead of having this guy come in and do such a poor job, give him whatever time he needs off to grieve his loss. After an hour and a half at this restaurant and all the issues we had you would think maybe they would comp a drink or do something to make up for the absolute crap show we experienced but you would be wrong. They did apologize but did nothing to rectify the situation. No discount, no offer to do anything to make it right. I am usually a great tipper. 20% on average, more if the service is exceptional. I have never left a zero dollar tip before tonight but that is exactly what they deserved. Never again will I go to this restaurant. I left knowing I would have gotten better food and better service at Culver's and it would have cost less than half the price I paid tonight. read more

I have eaten at Sweet Basil many times. it was my favorite restaurant in our area. i hadn't been there in a while and wanted to treat my significant other to a delicious meal. the food was delicious but the service was terrible. it was a friday night and they were not busy. the bar service was slow and not attentive. we sat for dinner at 6:30 and waited an hour and a half to get our food. i ordered scallops and i got 3 on a small bed of risotto for $37. we will not be back and it was very disappointing read more

The service was good and the only reason I'm giving this place two stars. Seated quick and drinks came fast however, the food was not good. I ordered the salmon and it was very over cooked, the grill marks we're more or less burnt fish. I did the brussel sprouts as an appetizer, the amount of bacon and cheese on them made them almost too salty to eat. I'm an out of towner, but won't be spending $50 on a meal here again. Big restaurant with indoor outdoor dining and a friendly bar. They kept the restaurant open do you accommodate our party of 12. Sarah our waitress could not be any better. They made us feel right at home. Artichoke dip was a stand out. The seared scallops delicious. Even the crème brûlée was surprisingly good. They have a Zinfindel which was very reasonable and tasty. We ordered carryout Perch dinners this past Friday. The food was fantastic. Even the French fries remained crispy and tender. The portions are very generous and the clam chowder was terrific. Went out to dinner with coworkers and ended up here per one of their recommendations. I have to say they have a pretty impressive little menu. Even though there aged strip steak sounded great I defaulted to the meat loaf which was described as having a variety of meats in it like prosciutto and sausage with cheese stuffed inside served with rosemary garlic potatoes and greens. This meal was very good, the portion size was large and they had a good mixture of flavors that brought the whole dish together. While the plate was complete, it was not totally exceptional, the meet loaf did not taste like it had all those meats and cheeses in it as the sausage seemed to be the overwhelming flavor. For this reason I would rate this restaurant at 4 stars as it is above average. The mood inside was inviting, they had a great selection of wines, and the staff knew there stuff and were excited to be there and help you with anything you needed. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone of you in the area who are looking for a good place to eat. read more

I was out of state doing an event at Road America and came across this restaurant. I was tired and hungry. The waitress brought me over fresh warm bread and my cold beverage and then went thru the menu with me. I ordered the steak and shrimp and it came to me perfectly done. The owner came over to see how my food was and we had a nice conversation. I will go again the next time I am in Wisconsin for an event at RA and try other items on the menu. Having been born and raised in Chicago I have had a lifetime of opportunity to sample the greatest, most diverse food arguably of any city in the world. So we were at Road America for a race weekend and we were starving at the end of the first day and *not* looking forward to the drive to Sheboyagan to eat. As we walked to our car in the hotel parking lot we noticed a small neon sign "Sweet Basil" in a tiny tiny mini mall across the street. Sooo glad we did. We walked in and looked at the menu- as we realized that there were no vegetarian options, someone asked if we needed any help or had any questions. Long story short? They made us food that was vegetarian and dairy free! Two separate pasta dishes, both with an abundance of fresh vegetables. 3.5 stars This looks like it was once a chain restaurant in a commercial development next to a hotel. The location, ambience and decor aren't ideal, but some of the food here is quite good. The walley is excellent and perch on Fridays is very good as well. Enjoyed the salad special of the day, which was shaved brussel sprouts with dried cherries, candied pecans, honey dijon dressing, crumbled bacon, and gorganzola shredded cheese. I added chicken breast...I was impressed when the salad got there...bread was served before that, average but warm which was nice when I was already chilled and knew I'd just ordered a salad...LOL!! Atmosphere is a simple decor, not too made up, and not anywhere near a coffee shop feel. The waitress was a cutie, and sold me on the salad. I've had several really good dinners here in the past 18 months. The service is always pleasant and the kitchen prompt. Tonight the salmon I added to the Apple Gorgonzola salad was almost too hot to eat - something I love about a good restaurant. Some of the other comments have mentioned that this isn't a "big city" type of Italian restaurant as far as ambience and depth of menu. Well, Plymouth isn't a big city :) The menu isn't super deep, but I'd rather have a few really good dishes than a bunch of average dishes. They do offer season-appropriate specials (like watermelon salad and a cold soup in 90degree July). I've managed to never visit here when it's the right weather for sitting outside, but they do have a little patio area too. read more

Definitely not your average Italian restaurant. I am a total restaurant snob that is not easily satisfied, but this place really took me for surprise. We stumbled on this restaurant while in the town of Plymouth, and we are so glad we did! For starters we ordered the fried goat cheese spinach salad as recommended by our incredible server Sara. My palate was shocked! Crispy goat cheese with hot bacon sauce and candied pecans. For our dinner we chose the roast pork and Tuscan meatloaf. The most tender pork on the bone with spinach and creamy risotto.This was not your grandmas meatloaf! This meatloaf was a combo of pork beef prosciutto with provolone cheese inside served with rapini and garlic mash potatoes. Excellent service, hostess Julie was extra nice. Saturday night with no reservations, she was so accommodating. Our Server Sara was the nicest person that quickly replaced our focaccia bread as often as we inhaled it. Great spot for when I'm traveling into town. Often get to go for the hotel and it's quick and always hot.

I was recently working in the area and discovered Sweet Basil by accident as I spotted the small sign one evening on returning to the hotel across the street. I ate at the bar 2 nights in a row - since I was leaving work late and did not have the time or inclination to start scouring the countryside for a restaurant. In hindsight - I am glad I made this choice as I am sure Sweet Basil is the best in the area. The bar offers a full menu and friendly service. The walleye was superb - excellently prepared, fresh and served piping hot. The second evening I tried a walnut and apple salad with scallops. Again - perfectly prepared, everything fresh, no wilted greens or overbearing dressings here. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant the next time I am in the Plymouth area - 5 stars. read more

My family lives in Plymouth/Sheboygan, and one day we thankfully avoided the supper clubs to come here. I was NOT expecting it to be as good as it was, and now I try to come whenever I visit Wisconsin. Right after you're seated, they give you cubed foccacia bread with marinara sauce for dipping. I'm ashamed to say it's so good that I've stuffed myself on it before the appetizers even arrived. The calamari are good, too. The menu is very simple and delicious. I haven't had too many things on it, but I absolutely love their spaghetti & meatballs. Not too adventurous, I know, but the meatballs come stuffed with cheese -- genius! Like every other restaurant in WI, the portions are absurdly large, and that goes double for dessert. I ordered Tiramisu, and it took 3 days to eat that delectable behemoth! read more
