Had a great lunch on a recent Sunday. We really enjoyed the corn & sausage chowder, a delicious gochujang chicken sandwich special with the sweet potato fries, and a savory pear + Gorgonzola panini on cinnamon raisin bread with carrots and hummus. Was staying at the American Club in the winter for a spa getaway. Had dinner here on a Friday night with my wife. It's a weird spot. It's decorated like a cabin but it serves fairly upscale food that doesn't taste very good. As others have mentioned some of the food is too salty. I ordered a pork chop and it was terrible. It was supposed to come with blue cheese and there was virtually none. It was over cooked and charred. Staff was nice but the food does not match the vibe at all. It has the lighting and feel of a ski lodge (the cafeteria kind not the upscale kind). They need to dim the lighting and ease off the salt. read more

Definitely a solid place to eat (and drink) either prior to or following a round of golf at one of the two great golf courses at Blackwolf Run. The dining area and adjacent bar overlook the 18th hole of the Meadows course. The log cabin rustic clubhouse and restaurant/ bar fits perfectly with the entire hunting/fishing/golfing vibe. The menu includes great sandwiches, appetizers, salads and entrees that are hearty and quite good. Try the walleye sandwich. Very tasty. read more

What is wrong with this place? Corn sausage chowder had no sausage and was extremely salty (common theme here). Scallop entree was inedible because of excessive salt. Same for salmon entree. Chicken spiedini entree was tiny with tasteless spaetzle for $32. This is presumably a 5 diamond resort? I think it gets 1 rotten egg rating. Yuk! read more

As an impromptu holiday family getaway, we decided to drive to Kohler and stay at the Inn at Woodlake. We learned that Frozen Fairways is currently going on at Blackwolf Run and the $15 admission/person was included with our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the event as we did curling, ice skating, and more. We enjoyed a bite at the food truck the Lost Sheep and had amazing service from Lucas. The food was better than expected, especially the fresh potato chips with French onion dip and smash burgers. Just delicious! We tried the espresso martinis and they did not disappoint. What a wonderful setting, food, and service. 6 of us had dinner with a great start of 2 appetizers. The coconut shrimp came with 4 so they added 2 more. The brats and cheese were spectacular. 3 sliced brats with each having a different mix like cheese, jalapeños and I don't remember the 3rd, but wow. And of course great Wisconsin cheese. The corn chowder soap is a killer! For entrees we had scallops, chicken schnitzel, short ribs, and salmon. There was no room for dessert! We had lunch here after golf. This beautiful building was apparently disassembled in Montana and brought to WI in 1989 and reassembled. The log walls, stone fireplaces, and large picture windows provide a cozy place to snuggle up to lunch or a nice glass of wine and watch the golfers or simply enjoy the hills and prairie scenery. We split a turkey bacon pita club sandwich and each had a cup of the chicken dumpling soup. They spilt our meal for us and brought it out in two plates. Love where they do that. Fries were so good. Beautiful grounds. Hostess are nice and helpful. Service is glacial, it took 20-30 minutes for every course, and 15 minutes for every drink. And you only saw the waitstaff when they were finally being things back. We past on dessert because no one had another 1.5 hours to dine. The food when it arrived was cold when it was supposed to be cold and warm when it's supposed to be hot. Everything that was served on a plate was delicious. I'd visit again on a warm summer day when I ain't got a damn thing to do. read more

I'm so surprised by the reviews of the restaurant here. My husband and I just returned from Kohler, and we had two breakfasts and 1 lunch here and thought all our meals and service were outstanding! So - good that we came back more than once. Not to repeat myself, but the breakfast buffet was outstanding. Everything was hot and delicious. Great options of bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, french toast, roasted red potatoes with onions, cereal, fruit, pastries. Every single bite was sooo good! Since we love the breakfast, we stayed for lunch after our round. We got the shrimp tacos and the chicken taco salad. I absolutely loved the ground chicken taco salad. My only complaint was that it wasn't spicy enough for my liking - but no dish ever is! My husband loved the shrimp tacos - especially the sweet potato chips that came with it. Our service for all our meals was great - and the view of the 18th hole and the large picture windows was fabulous. I would definitely return to this restaurant if I was ever in the area. read more

We stumbled upon Blackwolf Run restaurant while visiting Kohler for a few days. The room with the fireplace is so inviting. Good views and a cozy atmosphere, what more can you ask for?! There is a lunch buffet that is very reasonably priced - which had a nice assortment of soup, sandwiches, sweets, etc and also a well thought out menu with plenty of options. Service was a tad slow even though we were not there during a busy time, but the room was so pretty that it didn't matter much. The other rooms all have lovely views as well, so there really isn't a bad seat in the house. If your food takes a while, you can always take a visit to the pro shop also! I had a sandwich/wrap type thing which looked like nothing but tasted great! I am sure the restaurant is much busier in the summer, but the space is large and very accommodating, so worth a visit! Reasonable prices make this also a good group spot. Parking is past the restaurant - we parked up front but then found the lot later when walking around. Cute little path by the restaurant is also so picturesque! I'll definitely stop by again when in the area. Bathrooms also excellent and spacious and clean. read more

Came here for dinner with my husband. Parking is far away from the building so be prepared for a little walk. We made a reservation and were promptly seated at our reservation time. I ordered a glass of wine, crab cakes and the elk tenderloin. The crab cakes as someone else mentioned were small but I like the salad served with them it helped elevate the dish. The elk tenderloin was a delight. The rich sauce paired well with the meat which was cooked to perfection. I did like the sides as well. You cannot go wrong with potatoes and brussels sprouts. The service was decent I was a tad upset I was not given the daily special. I did over hear it offered to another table. The view outside was beautiful I bet this place in summer is gorgeous. read more

Ok Fantastic building rustic lodge design. Service was fine no issues but not exceptional. Ordered corn sausage chowder, which was good but a bit heavy on potatoes and light on sausage. For main course ordered Lemon Pepper Linguine and paid an additional $10.00 for shrimp. Meal arrived and there were three (as in 3) shrimp. Was basically told that that was the way the meal was prepared. Absolutely ridiculous and egregious $3,33/shrimp. Ruined the whole experience. read more

I dined here recently with a larger sized party, which may have been our mistake... We ordered a few drinks at the bar ahead of our table being ready (so far so good) and then were seated. The space itself is magnificent, with a dining room where one wall is just glass, offering uninterrupted views of the pastoral surroundings, and a giant roaring fire. However, once seated things went a little sideways. We had to hound staff to re-order drinks. Someone's mixed drink received at the table was a fully different color than the one ordered at the bar-- and it was an old fashioned so like p sure that should be brown... Many people ordered the beef tenderloin. Two requested their's be prepared well done, but when it arrived to the table it was as red as my medium one. They asked for it to be cooked more, and it came back still pretty pink. The sad part is the tenderloin was actually pretty tasty, as were the desserts, but the service was just lacking. Overall, decent meal (4 stars) but really not worth the price and shockingly inattentive service (2 star).. so i'll average that to a 3 read more

A group of us came in from different parts of the US for some corporate meetings. We asked the bartender at our hotel of any good places to have dinner. All she suggested was pizza from 3 different places. I wasn't about to have pizza after a day of flying and driving. I checked Yelp and this place popped up and we said what the heck. So glad we did. Went for lunch with a friend today. It's a beautiful location, view & building. Staff was all incredibly friendly. I had the Berry salad. I'm not sure if my expectations were too high or not. The description sounded amazing. It was good, but it could have been amazing. The buratta cheese did not compliment this salad at all. It was the consistency of ricotta placed in the middle. Even after adding salt & pepper, it was bland. A feta would be good. The toasted pistachios were almost non-existent. Because of that, I really missed a crunch!! The Berries were delicious & there were generous amounts. The dressing was also light & fresh. My friend had a steak sandwich. His comment was, it's OK, but not something that's a stand out. As I sit and stare out on the panoramic view of the Blackwolf Run golf course with the Sheboygan River running through it, I can't decide which is better . . . the food in front of me . . .or the view. Blackwolf Run Restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The setting and decor remind me of a mountain lodge with it's exposed rough hewn log walls and floor to ceiling windows. You can enjoy your meal inside in front of the fieldstone fireplace, or, weather permitting outside on the patio that gives you the perfect view of the 18th green. For lunch daily, you can enjoy either the lunch buffet featuring a chef's choice salad, soup or chili, entree and beverage for only $9.50. Or, if you prefer, you can order off the menu some of the hearty fare that Wisconsin is known for like the sausage corn chowder, or the double bratwurst served on a Sheboygan hard roll (oh Wisconsin breads- one of the many things I miss from when I lived there!) We went with the buffet and had steak chili, salad and steak fajitas served with rice and sauteed peppers and onions. Very good. But then we ordered from the dessert tray. While my cherry crisp was good (warm cherry cobbler topped with melting vanilla ice cream) my favorite dessert was the "Do it yourself S'mores". Check out the pictures I posted. This dessert is fun and delicious as they bring out your own "personal campfire" to roast your marshmallows on along with graham cracker cookies and chocolate sauce to pour over the whole thing. Here's a tip- ask for a sharp knife and cut the marshmallow chunks into more manageable sizes and you might not burn the place down like we almost did (of course all the laughing we were doing didn't help!) This dessert brings out the kid in everyone as we compared our toasting skills just like when we were 10 and sitting in front of a real campfire! Service was terrific- friendly and helpful, offering suggestions along the way. The view . . or my food . . hmm . . .I still can't decide which one was better. The service was good, both of our servers were really helpful and nice. We all drink wine and they start bringing to the table some bread which was ok. But all of our plates were overpriced, they have to change the staff in the kitchen. The pork was dry and it was difficult to cut, we had to order some sauce to eat it with because just with those little pineapples it didn't taste any good. The salmon was ok but didn't amuse anyone and I order myself the Elk Terrapins, but the beef was also dry. All of our plates came with a mashed potato that for me it was not fresh, not creamy enough, and some asparagus on the side. The restaurant is really beautiful but none of our dishes was worth the price. read more

Checked in for a late lunch en route to the airport. Ambience: Upon arrival, we were instantly mesmerised by the sheer serenity of the establishment. Our parting shot of Destination Kohler could not have been more spectacular! We gazed in awe at the sunset as we dined by the picture windows overlooking the magnificent course and meandering Sheboygan River. Service: Kudos to Diana, our server extraordinaire! Being cognisant of our haste to make it to MKE on time, our drinks and meals were served with stellar efficiency! Drinks: the Sunset Cooler - an apt name for the mocktail, considering the gorgeous view - was outstandingly refreshing! Food: The stuffed cheese steak was to die for - it was undoubtedly on par with the best cheese steaks that we have sampled in Philly! The fresh-out-of-the-oven Tuscan roll was LOADED with succulent beef and perfectly complemented by the cheese combo, mushrooms and peppers. The Blackwolf Run Burger equally struck a chord, with a rich array of toppings. Verdict: hands down our favourite casual meal in Kohler...will most definitely return! Trivia: The structure was reportedly sourced from (or inspired by?) a log cabin in Montana...somewhat in the same manner that The Greenhouse at The American Club was meticulously transported from Lancashire (England) to Kohler. read more

The food and waiter service at this restaurant were fantastic. The setting is a beautiful one for relaxing dining. The reason this review was 3 stars was because the hostess was not friendly in the least (blond lady, did not get her name). She set a negative tone from the moment we walked in until when we left (and she never even thanked us or acknowledged we were walking right past her out the door). This is not at all what we have ever experienced at ANY Kohler location. I think I will call and let management know, because I can't believe that they would leave her employed there if they knew how she treated customers. read more

As we were driving around in the dark trying to find this place my friend said, "I feel like we're in Brigadoon." We were led rather astray in going to this restaurant. We asked at the desk at the Inn on Woodlake where to get dinner (not too fancy) and the clerk said that this place had "steaks and sandwiches." She also said "you'll see it." Well, it's a good thing I had a Garmin, because in the pitch dark we sure didn't see it. The restaurant is about a quarter mile off the road, and even the sign is obscured by prairie grass. (There is apparently a shuttle that goes from the hotel; your best bet would be to take it.) As for steaks and sandwiches...not at dinner, the sandwiches anyway. Prices apparently shoot up. We were pretty surprised. Still, We each had a salad (mixed green for her, poached pear for me) and appetizer (sushi-style chicken crunch roll for her, coconut shrimp with a very strident citrus compote for me), and with their excellent bread, we were really quite full. Dawn, our server, was very sweet and solicitous, and made sure everything ran smoothly. I would probably try somewhere else on a future trip to Kohler, but if you go, bring your compass and your flashlight! read more

This was my 4th stay at the American club and second time dining at Blackwolf run for dinner. My review is pretty similar to the first experience. We had wine and beer; both were great. The view, service, and ambiance were on point. My negative comments are focused on the quality of the food. Two people order halibut, and both were overcooked. The chowder was the consistency of oatmeal. They are using high-quality ingredients, and the menu is well put together well, but they are missing on execution. read more

Best French fries ever. We went there for lunch. Started with Wisconsin Bloody Mary (with horseradish-infused vodka.). Very good. The corn /sausage chowder is thick, creamy and flavorful. If you get more than a cup you can forget about eating anything else. I had the walleye sandwich which was on toast and had just the right amount of extras - mayo, lettuce - to be good. Hubby had the sandwich special w/ ham, bacon, peppers, provolone and more and he loved it. I think their beer-battered French fries are arguably the best fries I have ever tasted. I'm not an expert, but I do work with lots of restaurants and I recommend that you try these for yourselves. They are awesome - for once I didn't need ketchup! read more

My husband and I went here yesterday as part of our weekend getaway. Firstly make sure you make a reservation before you go because the night before we stopped in and were unable to get in and it was 6:00PM. Which can be understandable but beware of that. The next night I had made an reservation for 7PM. We got to our table and it was by a window which blinded us by the sun for about 45 mins. After that time the sun had gone past the trees and it was fine. Our meal was very good. My husband got the elk and I got the salmon. The service was very good. I also ordered the fried cheesecake to go. Later that nigh around 11pm my husband and I ate the cheesecake. As I ate it I realized there was a long blonde hair in my mouth from the cheesecake. Seeing that my hair isn't blonde it wasn't from me and my husband has short brown hair. I became so sick I vomited violently. Fast forward to today the next day I call Black wolf run to let them know of the situation. The manger said that the cheesecake is bought from an outside source and not made there. Which really wasn't relevant because they deep fry it which is where the hair was within the coating. The manger said she could have given me a lunch on them if I was from the area. But since I'm not she didn't give me any kind of solution. She did take my email address not sure for what. I wasn't looking for a free meal but I would have liked a bit more empathy for the horrible situation I dealt with from their food. I won't be going there again. And if you do make sure you check your food well. read more

I do not have enough good things to say about our experience at Black Wolf Run. Some girlfriends and I were in Kohler for a weekend girls trip and after researching restaurants in the area, we decided on Black Wolf Run based on the menu selections, price and overall atmosphere. We made dinner reservations over the phone with no issue, and were immediately seated at a four top near the fireplace. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming! The menu was fantastic. We all ordered the Friday Fish fry, which comes with all you can eat salad and potato bar, and the food was outstanding! Great value for the price. Now, onto our service. Andi was our server and she was without a doubt the best waitress we have ever had. She was kind, personable, genuine, and made us feel like we were her only table that night. We were celebrating an engagement and she surprised us with dessert for the table!! This was unexpected and a perfect end to our night. Thank you Andi and Black Wolf Run for an amazing evening!!
