Review is only for atmosphere and service; I was unable to actually try the food because of, well, service. Only reason this is a 2 star instead of a 1 -- it's possible the ice cream is good, but I sure didn't get to try it. Located off the main drag of highway in Madison, this is a small chain offering rolled ice cream, milkshakes, cookies, and liege waffles with decadent toppings. It's been here a little while and so I thought I'd stop by for an afternoon treat while waiting to attend an event nearby. I entered into the smallish, narrow space and was immediately struck by how...dead it felt. There was one other customer (or perhaps an owner/manager, though if it was, that's kind of disappointing given my experience). It was kind of dark inside and it smelled weird -- not noxious or anything but a little musty and certainly not a yummy, sweet, ice cream, cookie, or waffle scent like you might expect. I wasn't greeted but I wandered up to the register where an employee was listlessly -- and I mean LISTLESSLY - pushing around a few sad ice cream rolls. Every other time I've watched ice cream get rolled the worker has almost been like a hibachi chef, rapidly cutting, dicing, rolling, and flipping. This reminded me of picking a scab. I said hello; I don't remember if the young female employee said anything back, she might've muttered an acknowledgement but it definitely wasn't a warm welcome. Having never been here before, I was a little unclear on the process (eg, what are mix-ins vs toppings; what's available; are there pre-made creations, etc), but she never offered to answer any questions or render assistance, even as I stood for several minutes gazing up at the menu. All I heard from her for a while - as she continued to listlessly scrape the ice cream around - were several very loud, gnarly-sounding sniffles. They were bad enough that I started to feel concerned she was sick. These concerns were further worsened by the fact she wasn't wearing gloves. While that thought flickered through my mind, I abruptly heard her say, "I'm sorry." I assumed she was talking to me since I'd been waiting for a while, and so I reflexively said, "You're fine!" I quickly realized she wasn't speaking to me at all and was instead having a conversation on the phone through the headphones she was wearing. Nice. This went on for another minute or two -- it was a fairly personal conversation and she seemed to be consoling someone on the other end -- and I just decided it wasn't worth the hassle and frustration. Y'all know I try my best to be very forgiving of service and such but this was a bridge too far for me. I had read reviews prior to coming here about service being bad and I thought surely people were overreacting or being entitled but now I don't think so. Perhaps the product is good, but you'll be hard-pressed to sell much of it if employees aren't even willing to make it for customers. read more

After the owners response about the expired milk, I've been back 3 times. They're n e v e r open. When I visited today, just now around 320 pm on a Friday, 2 other sets of people were walking away from the door to their cars too. Looks like a story that doesn't end well. read more

The ice cream here is amazing - like really really good! The service is the slowest ice cream store on planet earth. If there are 4 people or more in line ahead of you, just leave. It doesn't help that the employee is visibly frustrated if they are kinda busy. Took 45 minutes to get my order tonight. Also, I went here once and some "friends" of the person working the stand ordered after me, yet got their order first...which I guess I can understand cause they are high school kids and could careless about the profits and customer satisfaction, but probably something the ownership should know. read more

I came here yesterday afternoon & was greeted by a sweet man - I'm unsure if he was the owner or not but he greeted me right away. I appreciate that he was able to accommodate me and give me half of the strawberry and Oreo cookie flavor in a regular bowl. I don't know why other rolled ice cream places would give me a hard time asking for two diff flavors, but he was the first place to allow me to do that! Sweet Charlie's was a fun and yummy sweet treat that my hubby and mother-in-law went to. I loved that you could choose from their list of flavors but also opt to make your own. My MIL made one with maraschino cherries and chocolate chips. Hubby got the mint Oreo flavor and I chose the birthday cake. The original ice cream base is delicious and I loved that you could add as many toppings as you wanted. I put strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream on mine. There wasn't much of a wait and plenty of seating. read more

Was having a really crazy week and just needed some ice cream . Looked on grub-hub (bc I rode a charter bus full of teenagers states away and had no car to get my own ice cream) and saw that Sweet Charlie's had no delivery fee. Yay! I placed my order which was super simple and they posted updates throughout. They got here super fast and it wasn't melted at all. The ice cream was delish and the simplicity and care of them getting my order right and getting it here fast made my night so much better. It's the small things that count!! read more

I was expecting a lot more for my first visit. I was greeted but it was very bland and then the two girls went right back to talking to each other. The girl that did my ice cream had gloves on but she was touching her face and hair etc with the gloves on ‍ that's it...I asked for the birthday cake ice cream rolls in a regular size cup. She hurried through it did not mix it good and the spread was very uneven some of my rolls were translucent...she asked what I wanted on top of it I asked for whipped cream sprinkles and cherries...this is what I got...I could've just gotten the mini because look at all the extra space in the cup. Stopped to get two rolled ice cream cups, she asked us what base flavor we wanted and never asked what we wanted mixed in it. As she started chopping I was waiting to tell her what we wanted in it then she started rolling the ice cream and never even offered our mix ins. We were not aware they closed early on this day, we did not mean to come 30 minutes before closing but like I said we wanted two things. My boyfriend even said hey aren't you supposed to mix stuff in it? We were ignored and rushed out the door. Want some attitude with your cup of diabetes? I was super excited to actually be able to enjoy ice cream since I'm lactose intolerant, and a lactose free option was advertised on their website. Unfortunately, the girl working was impressively rude and unpleasant and told me that, even though they had what we ordered, she wouldn't make it for us because it was "too messy" for her? Instead, we were offered only one menu item, and I honestly think she would have rather we just walk out in traffic. I still tried it since it was lactose free, but the taste and consistency of the vegan ice cream was uncannily similar to congealed sugar. I couldn't finish more than just a couple bites due to how sweet it was. A couple of people got the regular ice cream and agreed that theirs was fine while the vegan option was too sweet and just bad; however, the unanimous decision was that the customer service was truly impressive and more than enough to mark this one off of everyone's list. read more
