My wife spotted this place online and said we absolutely had to go while in town. We came by after lunch for a bit of dessert and it was really unlike any other ice cream place I think we've ever tried. The spot itself is very small and hard to find, it's tucked away in a corner between a couple other shops and we walked directly past it at least once. They're trying very hard to be trendy in here, loud music, crazy decor, etc. The ice cream itself was very good, with one complaint. We ended up getting two small ice cream cups, Red Rapture for me and Cookies, Cookies, Cookies, for her. What they gave us was vanilla soft serve with a slew of toppings crammed on top. My sister and I came here on January 26 2019. It was a perfect afternoon treat for a cold winter day. I was expecting the salted dark hot chocolate to have chocolate whipped cream as advertised, as opposed to regular whipped cream. Nevertheless, this still tasted great. It was very decadent and rich. Sweet Jesus has quite a bit of hype on Instagram and social media, so I decided to try it. A lot of people complain about the long lines, etc but when I went in March in the evening, there was no line at all. The actual store is quite small but has a nice aesthetic. The service was quite fast and overall the experience was amazing! Their creation options are really great and I ended up ordering the Red Velvet. The presentation was beautiful and the ice cream really wasnt your typical soft serve. The Biggie was HUGE and was quite a bit for one person to finish. Finding this place is the first task. Tucked away in the corner of a condo plaza this place is actually part of the La Carnita restaurant structure at the back right corner of the restaurant. You can access the place also from the door from the small plaza of the condo. The place is tight, like enough for a line on the counter that will wind around and back out the door from where you pay to where you pick up kind of how the line up is at Uncle Tetsu. Look for the lightning bolt and upside down cross which are their logo(s). The menu on the wall is old school with that movie theater type lettering or old diner menu look and while they have that menu they still have the ever changing paper menu that you can browse at in line. All the specialty items are 6 bucks and this list has changed through the months. Seeing the size of some of these cones I have to say I was not wanting to have a cone because although it wasn't necessarily summer outside I didn't want to have to worry about it melting or having to eat it quickly to get to a height I felt comfortable that it wasn't going to topple over necessarily. Because of this I went with the cup instead and I had ordered the PBC. I've not had this before but I love peanut butter and chocolate. All the items are soft serve and dressed to impress depending on what you're looking for. The person in front of me ordered the birthday cake and this one cone took the server a good 2 minutes to put together as she was manually adding in small crouton sized/shaped pieces of cake to the cone and adding a candle on top and lighting it. It's almost romantic... I'd imagine the rocky road would be the same amount of labor except that it's marshmallows instead of tiny squares of cake. The PBC is a lot simpler I suppose, melted peanut better poured on top of chocolate soft serve which hardens sort of again as well as nuts on top. Is it good? Yes it's good and realistically it's not that expensive. Normal soft serve are about 4 bucks and the servings are pretty decent for the money. Overall it's a good experience and there's a variety of flavors and the fact that they change it and add new ones every so often keeps things interesting. There is no seating of any kind inside or out I supposed unless you're already seated in La Carnita it's automatically a to go order. The line is sort of crowded and tight but it's the price you pay if you want to have your ice cream to the extreme. read more

It hurts my sweet tooth to say this, but I have to update and downgrade my review to 3 stars. We visited again a couple of weeks ago, on a Sunday around 3:30 PM, but this time, having enough of the frigid temperatures, we thought we'd try their hot drink options this time. Conclusion: sadly, don't. We ordered the Burnt Marshmallow Latte - unfortunately, it might as well have been called a Burnt Latte, period. The marshmallows were completely and overly scorched, to the point where it seemed like we were drinking liquid coal. It was so overtly burnt, that the latte itself was completely flat, tasted burnt with an even worse aftertaste, and reeking of the smell you get when you leave something in the oven for too long and you sadly end up with a burnt, shrivelled object scalded beyond comprehension. As previously reviewed, the ice creams here are indeed delicious and unique, so I'd definitely come back for those. But, next time, I won't deviate past their pimped out soft serve. In my experience, they excel at their ice creams (hence leaving this as 3 stars) - but otherwise, pass. For one drink, we paid around $6.00 (more or less). read more

I was expecting a bit more from a place with so much hype but I found Sweet Jesus to be quite average. We opted for two of their specialty soft serve, Krusty the Cone and Rocky Road Rage both which looked aesthetically pleasing and picture-worthy. Loaded with a ton of toppings over a small, plain cone, there's pressure to eat it quickly before it all melts and gets too messy. I couldn't deal with it so I ended up dumping it into a cup halfway through. As for the components themselves, it's just OK. The combos were nothing out of the ordinary. It's all been done before. The soft serve is very average, not as dense and creamy as I usually prefer. It's rather watery but it's masked by all the toppings (which is also mediocre). I think the hype is really just based on the presentation of the cones but the quality is not quite there. Pretty steep at $6 and I would've expected the ability to customize to some extent or have the option to upgrade and get a waffle cone or something. But anywho, it's quite big in size so if you're coming here feeling pretty full already, it might be a struggle to finish the entire thing. Also, there's no seating - it's a grab-and-go type of spot. Not really ideal in the wintertime since you'd have to sit outside on one of the benches to enjoy your icecream. Overall, I definitely see the appeal of this place and I wouldn't mind coming back if I'm ever in the area but it's not worth lining up for. read more

I love ice cream - especially soft-serve ice cream. If I had to choose one thing to eat for the rest of my life, ice cream might be it. So, as someone who loves ice cream, my primary judgement of an ice cream shop is for the ice cream itself. I really don't care for the frills - the brownie, the cookie dough, the sprinkles - it's usually just a gimmick anyway. Unfortunately, I would rather have enjoyed my ice cream at a McDonald's. I'm not sure how they exactly make their ice cream, but the sweetness tastes a bit artificial, and there isn't much of a milky flavour to the ice cream itself. It tastes almost like the soft serve ice cream you'd get from an ice cream truck. While a lot of people complain about their portion size, I actually thought the portion size was a plus. For $6 you could get a large enough ice cream to satisfy two people. The problem is the mess. Yes they give you a lot of stuff, but it's on a fairly small cone so on a hot summer day it's bound to drip all over your hand even with the plastic cover. What would be helpful is if they provided paper cups so that once you take a picture of your ice cream with the basic light blue backdrop in the shop, you can flip the cone into a cup and eat it from there. I felt bad that all the chunks of stuff on my ice cream kept falling all over the floor as I walked out of the shop. Speaking of the chunks - I got the Campfire S'mores the first time I was here and hated it. The marshmallows tasted like slightly stale No Name brand marshmallows which makes you think you're eating sweet ear plugs. I could barely taste the chocolate from the chocolate itself, as it was overpowered by the flavours of the ice cream. The crushed graham crackers didn't taste like anything and also tasted stale. I tried to give this place a second chance and ordered the birthday cake but the pieces of cake just tasted like cheap stale cake that a kid in grade school would bake. I would much rather have them reduce the portion size to save some of the costs to reinvest in improving the quality of their items, I have no idea why a lot of their toppings taste stale. The layout of the store is also annoying because it's very tiny and crammed, and half the people are trying to walk out with their massive ice creams with a ton of topping on them, I would be surprised if accidents weren't common here. I came in the winter so it wasn't very crowded but I could just imagine how much I would hate the place in the summer. So you'd expect me to probably give them 1 star but why 2? Well, the ice cream looks nice in pictures - and that's important for any of you food Instagrammers/bloggers that want more traffic. What is the difference between the ice cream and mcdonalds' soft serve? The price of course. The texture of the thicker part added to the ice cream is redundant. The cone is the same as mcdonalds. The ice cream tastes no different as the milk/cream used to create the ice cream is no different. Albeit the ice cream given is around 1.5 times the size you get at mcdonalds. The price is around 6.50 before tax whereas mcdonalds is around 1-1.5 and located almost everywhere. So do not waste your time driving nearby to taste this horrible abomination of an ice cream. I came back here when it was cooler as I had planned. I was in and out within 10 minutes. I so wanted to try The Elvis again, but they have changed their menu since my last visit, adding something more season, Pumpkin Pie. Removing the opportunity to have my bacon with my sweets just breaks my heart. I did the most irrational thing and ordered the seasonal item. It's no bacon, it was ok, but it looked disappointing to me. The whip cream on the top looked weird and it was so difficult to eat that it felt to the ground. Same went for many of the pie pieces. The soft serve was almost flavourless, until I tried really hard to find the pumpkin flavour, I wouldn't exactly call it a "pumpkin pie". Service was immensely better since there was barely a queue for it, yet their soft serve skills still lack consistency. I ordered the birthday cake sundae ($6.50) which was a vanilla soft serve covered with cake pieces and sprinkles. They light a candle on the birthday cake sundae to top it off. It is a HUGE sundae that I did not end up finishing. The vanilla soft serve lacked flavour and the cake pieces makes this sundae a heavy dessert after a meal. Aesthetically, this is a place to go but it is not a place to go if you're looking for some good dessert. It is better to share a sundae than to attempt one by yourself and end up wasting it. Alright so after coming here, I've now been to both locations and honestly although the line at this location is massive, it blows the other location in regards to service/quality out of the water. I had the "red rapture" in a cup and the ice cream was actually really good this time. Like good on its own minus the toppings. Way better than the icecream I got the first time at the other location. The red rapture toppings were also tasty as well. I would definitely have it again. I came here with my boyfriend last night after eating dinner nearby. Mistake? probably! But whatevs, we've wanted to try it for a while! I always planned on getting something fun when I came in but I've been dieting plus seeing the huge portion size I was like oh hell no! I ended up getting the dairy free pumpkin spice almond milk soft serve. It was so tall and I knew it would melt before I got to the cone so I put it in a cup and ditched the cone! I'm not a huge cone fan anyway. I loved it! It was very delicious and tasted like it was in fact dairy. My boyfriend was planning on getting crusty the cone because he's a huge Simpsons fan but in the moment seemed way more appealed by the birthday cake and went for that. It was adorable, it came with a little it candle on the top! So unexpected but so funny and sweet. It also had HUGE chunks of birthday cake. He was in heaven. He also put his in a cup because it was humungo but ate the cone :P It's a really small place and they have nowhere to sit, but outside there's benches with heated lights however I fear they'll lose business in the winter due to the fact that nobody is going to want to get ice cream in the -20 weather and then have to bring it outside!!! I ordered Cookies Cookies Cookies & Cream, which you guessed it, had loads of different cookies packed onto the vanilla soft serve. Oreo cookies, chocolate chip cookies, fudgeos, and cookie dough. I would've preferred to have the toppings mixed well into the soft serve, but Sweet Jesus was that dessert still delicious! Sweet Jesus is perfect in absolutely every way, anything less then 5 stars is flawed. I've been coming here for about 2 years at this point and not once have I left disappointed. Sweet Jesus is actually connected to La Carnita and is located towards the back (does have a private entrance). Usually if you come here during the day you will wait in at least a 5 minute line (100% worth it). Today I ended up going with the cookies, cookies, cookies, and cream cone which is exactly what it sounded like. It was a vanilla soft serve with oreo and chocolate chip cookie chunks and it blew me away (just like every other flavour). After reading through a few reviews that spoke of long waits and overrated ice cream, I had almost removed this spot from my list. I'm definitely glad I didn't! I came around 8 on a Tuesday and the line took around 5 minutes. I was between a few flavors, as they all sound amazing! I ended up with the cookies flavor. It's vanilla soft serve with oreos, cookies, and cookie dough. I got the small size which was definitely still a generous portion! The ice cream itself was extremely smooth and the toppings were a wonderful pairing. If I ever find myself back in Toronto, I'll be here again! read more
