It's so funny, I ordered this full cheesecake for my friend's birthday. He loves cheesecakes, so I was happy to get it for him. However, after I ordered it online to pick it up a couple of hours later at this lovely store, Veronica from this store called me to let me know that just while my transaction was going through, a customer in their store had purchased a slice from the last remaining cheesecake, which incidentally I had managed to order online. So, I decided to go with her recommendation of another cake instead. But, she was so sweet, she gave me a slice of cheesecake gratis, since she remembered my friend, the birthday boy, loves cheesecakes. Also, I was able to buy a single candle from this store as well. I've tried this location 3 times since I live in Calabasas. I've tried many of their cookies. Each time I was disappointed. The cookies look amazing and they are big, but each time the cookies were way too hard, almost tasted stale. The chocolate chip cookie was not good. The oatmeal cookie was decent but didn't taste sweet. The snickerdoodle cookie was decent and the gluten free double chocolate cookie tasted the best. But overall very disappointing. When I think cookies , especially from a high end retailer, I'd expect the cookie to taste fresh, soft and sweet. I definitely won't come back for a fourth try. The cakes all looked fantastic but I haven't tried them. This location was very clean and bright inside. The best part of my experience each time that I've come has been the customer service. Nestled in the corner of a large outdoor shopping center with a bank, Coffee Bean & Tea, restaurants and other shops in Calabasas sits this dessert emporium, Sweet Lady Jane. I decided to roll right in not expecting mind you to meet Lady Jane, so I cannot opine if she is sweet or sour, so this review is relegated to the gluten free desserts since I am celiac. Those of you who have stopped, I understand, but you should know that not so long in the future wheateaters will be sectioned of in an area with garbage cans lit with fire with some people smoking cigarettes while other furtively eat finger sandwiches. The girl behind the counter was very rude. I came in planning on buying a few things to give to a friend. I came in and said hello, and she stared at me without saying anything. I was looking at the case at the different options and rather than ask me if I needed help, she turned her back to me and begin to do something on the other side of the counter. I waited three or four minutes by the register and when she still didn't offer to help, I decided to leave. Mind you there was not a single person in the shop so it was not busy nor was there anyone calling or any Major mess that needed her attention. This review is specifically for this location not the company overall. I've tried several other Sweet Lady Jane locations and I've never had an issue. A few months ago I received an extra watery pumpkin pie slice with all the filling/custard sliding off into the box, and I told myself I would not shop at this location any further. Unfortunately, this one is the nearest to me and I recently needed a few items for a mini birthday celebration, so I decided to give it another chance. I purchased five slices of different goodies, one piece of them being an apple pie (birthday boy's favorite menu item). Imagine his face when this is what he received. The rest of the items were in good condition and the inside of this box is clean, meaning it was simply placed like this. I have to say what a disappointment this place was. There's an app called "too good to go".. What it's meant to do is allow people to get a taste of the products at certain establishments. It's okay, but way over priced. There are many bakeries much better in the area. I wouldn't get their cakes. The buttercream has a slight bitterness which is unpleasant. My husband got a cake to celebrate my bday. We picked up the cake in the afternoon and kept it in our fridge until dinner time. When we cut into the cake we immediately noticed a sour smell and upon looking more closely saw mold growing inside. Needless to say we were disappointed and also quite surprised given that we paid $85 for the cake. The store did give us a refund without a fuss but it was still quite disappointing.
