Then, for years it was one of two places I both wanted to go to and take people to experience each time I visited. Now that I live here again, I strangely only get delivery. What a treat on an impromptu late-night dessert run while we were in town for a conference! I haven't been back since relocating up north, and this visit reminded me just how fond I am of this place. The London Fog and Pistachio Raspberry Rose Cakes were delectably delicious: smooth, fluffy, and awe-inspiring with every bite for our party of three. The Chai Cheesecake was on the heavier side and lacked the spice-forward flavor we were hoping for. The small hard candied fruit-filled chocolates were alright: the passion-fruit flavor was a bit better than the cardamom raspberry, though both leaned heavy on dark chocolate and light on fruit notes. Our hot and iced chai drinks were fine but unremarkable. I appreciate the flow improvement now that you can enter through the door closer to Main Street; you actually have time to see all the beautiful desserts in the case before it's your turn to order. The renovated outdoor seating area is lovely as well. Alley parking is still available, except on Sundays since it's the church lot. When we visited this weekend, hours were 8 a.m.-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Yelp lists daily hours as 8 a.m.-10 p.m., though I didn't ask for confirmation. Though not as late as they used to be, staying open until 10 p.m. is still fabulously awesome for a dessert spot! Cute little women-owned bakery with a huge selection of cakes, pastries and anything you can think of that involves flour, butter, sugar, and oven + love and a whole bunch of family recipes. I was in town and was craving something sweet after dinner. I Yelped to see what dessert places was still open and found this place. It was only about a few minutes drive so I got in the my rental and went. Parking was mostly street parking in what looked like a residential area. There was a line going in, but it didn't take long. It's a really cute place with a long display of different cakes, pies, and other sweets. I chose the mixed berry cheesecake and my daughter got the red velvet cake. To our surprise, it was the best dessert we've had! I was honestly expecting an overly sweet, with no taste dessert. What we got was light, fluffy, just perfect in sweetness, high quality, made with love cheesecake and red velvet cake. I feel this place will last a long time and will go far in the future. Sweet Life is good - not great, but good. I know many people are so devoted. And I get it's an experiential thing. You can line up with your friends, gaze at all the choices and then pick out just a bit of chocolate or pie that you are going to savor. Market of Choice makes delicious cakes. Moist and sweet and delicious. Sweet life makes okay cakes. They're done and not moist. They're flavorful but not too much. I chose to order a cake this year for a surprise birthday party (for myself and twin). I love the rhapsody cake so decided to get that one! I picked the second size that said it feeds 8-12 people. We fed 10 people and ate exactly half of the cake. It's rich and delicious so a smaller slice was more than enough for everyone. This cake it moist, flavorful, and the raspberry cuts the sweetness and compliments it so well. Something about a delicious chocolate cake layered with chocolate ganache and fruit to really tie things together. I've gotten this cake by the slice many times so I was thrilled to shared it with a group. Everyone was very happy & enjoyed it a lot. I guess knowing now I coulda got the smallest size offered and it woulda been plenty, but at least now there's leftovers which is never a problem! As for ordering I just went to their website and they make it extremely easy to order from. There are multiple pages of cake options, with detailed descriptions. It makes knowing what you want easy and simple. Additionally there's photos of the cakes with the description too. I found that no other local bakeries offered cakes in multiple sizes, not nearly as many options, nor photos, flavors, or any other descriptions and wanted you to call. Sweet life's is straight forward, quick, and gives you exact instructions of how soon you need to have an order by and you pick the pickup time so it's convenient for your schedule. They also have an outside buzzer so you don't have to wait in line inside (though I chose to go in cause it was slow and I wanted a few other treats to enjoy that day). I really appreciate the ordering process. I don't know where you'd get such a high quality cake any where else in town. It was clear as day to pick here for me. There's a couple parking spot directly in front of the store, street parking next to it, an alley that leads to a back overflow parking area as well. Let me start off by saying this really is a great patisserie!! My review specifically has to do with the recipes of the desserts and I'll explain further. They are very well known in Eugene for a reason We had gotten quite a bit of things about three days ago when we were in Eugene. We've been here less than a dozen times and I would say in regard to the food we have about the same experience each time. The list of things that we ordered- pumpkin brown sugar cookie, lemon bar, lemon sugar cookie, rhapsody cake, chocolate coconut custard cake, lemon and lavender poppyseed cake, and peach pie. I'm gonna explain each one; what we either loved or disliked Pumpkin and brown sugar cookie- it was good. It was extremely sweet and only tasted like brown sugar. You couldn't taste the pumpkin at all but I wasn't completely disappointed. I just wish they didn't put the word pumpkin in the title if you can't taste pumpkin. But if you do not like heavily, sweet desserts, you probably won't like this cookie. Lemon bar- the crust is super thin which I didn't like, I do prefer my lemon bars more zesty which I felt was missing. But the worst part about it that would make it to where I don't order it a second time is that the powdered sugar was covering the whole lemon bar, and it was a thick coating. When I order lemon bars from anywhere else I almost always want to complain that there's not enough powdered sugar. This was so overbearing. I felt like I could've choked on the lemon bar if my bite was too big. And the unfortunate part is that there was so much powdered sugar you couldn't taste the lemon or feel the texture. Sugar lemon cookie- the taste itself is great. You can taste the lemon and it's not too strong or too light. But the cookie itself is super hard on the edges. I wish that they made it more of a soft cookie like the very center of it was. I don't think my first reaction would be to make this cookie warm, but I do think that the hardness of the edges would make it so I actually consider selling this as a warm lemon cookie. Specifically to avoid how hard it was. Rhapsody cake- this cake is a raspberry chocolate cake. This was one of the things that would completely steer me away this patisserie if I had never been there before. You could not taste the raspberry at all. We tried it separately without the chocolate and it taste great but the chocolate was beyond overbearing. We took one bite and threw it away. The Cake either needs to be much thinner to where there's less chocolate or/and they need to add more raspberry throughout layers. Chocolate coconut custard cake- the hard chocolate topping on this cake was super thick that it just tasted gross. You can't taste the coconut against it. I don't think that you should put an ingredient in the title unless you can taste it because it is misleading. It also didn't feel like a custard texture so this cake was entirely not what we were expecting. lemon and lavender poppyseed cake- this cake was very good. You could taste the lemon, the lavender and the poppyseed. It was perfectly made with the right amount a lavender to where everybody would like it. I personally like a lot of lavender and I felt like it was an adequate amount, but it also felt fair to those who don't like overpowering flavors. We definitely would order this again. Peach pie- honestly, the best thing on the menu. I was quite upset that we didn't buy an entire pie. The crust on this pie is how they used to do pies decades ago. Thats the best way I can explain it. But it is so good and it definitely worth ordering. They also cut a very large slice, but but I still would order a whole pie next time! Outside of food, we always have a great time visiting in the dining area. The workers are great, very kind people, and they know how to package well. The purpose for my review is constructive criticism towards the recipes and definitely not to steer away customers this place is worth trying many times even if you get one thing or a couple that you don't like. The service was phenomenal everyone was kind, the area of the business is really bad, you're having to walk thru, and park next to a crack meth house, with a Bunch of crack heads outside, watch when you open your doors you may hit one as you exit your vehicle. This locale is infested with homeless meth heads, for the most part they left us alone as we didn't pay attention to them, we are used to having crazy homeless people screaming and walking around in our city too. The peach cheesecake/pie was phenomenal, I got a banana cream pastry, it was ok, not huge on those, I did get a cream puff pastry which was very delicious, they had some chicken type of pastries, got two for the kiddos, they were not fans of them, maybe it was overly sweet for them. Who knows, I thought it was too much. My husband devoured a ham and cheese croissant they had, I'm assuming it was delicious by the way he gobbled that up. I also or weed a small blue berry cake for my daughter's birthday, I still haven't tried it. I've been going to Sweet Life since I moved here three years ago and I've never had a bad dessert. They have the most delicious treats here and their seasonal offerings are to die for. I stopped in tonight and picked up the last slice of Caramel Apple Cheesecake, a slice of the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse Cake, a Bûche de Noel, and an Eggnog Duck. I haven't cracked into them yet but they all look so good and I'm so excited. They offer gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free, and nut-free desserts, so there's something for everyone here. Some other bakeries in the area do the same, but Sweet Life does it best for sure. The people who work here are incredibly friendly and work quickly even when the line is long, which is most of the time. This is arguably the best and most popular bakery in Eugene so there's going to be a line pretty much any time and day. The good news is, the line is right in front of the pastry fridge so you can look at all of the choices and decide on what you want while you wait. The dining area is very quaint and has some tables and chairs. I've only ever gotten my treats to-go so I haven't had the pleasure of sitting at one of the tables and eating there, but I would like to someday. Parking can be a problem during peak times. They have a little parking lot for themselves but it only had a few spots and is usually full. There's also street parking, but again it's usually all taken up. I usually park across the street in a lot that belongs to a small shopping center. While there are signs that say it's just for customers of that shopping center, I've never had a problem so I don't think it's enforced very strictly. Whether you're visiting Eugene or simply looking for a good bakery, you really can't go wrong with Sweet Life. This place is simply to die for. I always take friends here. read more

Mmm... I like myself some Sweet Life. I'm not a huge cake person; in fact, I usually pass on cake when offered. However, I do greatly enjoy cheesecake and Sweet Life makes the best cherry cheesecakes you'll find. Sadly, they don't usually have them in the glass case, so I have to remember to preorder when I want to get one, but they are the absolute best when I do (they usually have strawberry cheesecake in the glass case, which isn't a bad 2nd choice). The staff here has always been very friendly on the phone and in person when I have come in. The tricky part is the parking. Where they are located in Eugene, there are only a couple spots near the front door. They are next to an alley, so people going in and out in their cars can make it perilous. Your best bet is to drive past the building to a parking lot a half block down. You can usually find spots there to get out and walk, but if it is pouring down rain, you run the risk of your dessert getting wet or you having to splash through water puddles with your prize to get back to your car. The actual building isn't that big. They offer places to sit and eat and their case has more than just cakes -- there are donuts, cookies, puddings, and more. I've always taken my food to go, but again, I'm not big on a lot of sweets that don't have ice cream, so this is pretty much the only place I go for any sort of cake. When my wife and I got married 2-1/2 years ago, you can bet we had Sweet Life cheesecakes at our wedding reception. And we took the leftovers home. Some didn't even make it home because she opened the case and we had some bites on the way home. It's that good, folks. If I heard that you had a regular cake from Sweet Life, I'd definitely try it. That is why the statement to anyone that knows me and knows I'll skip cupcakes and any cakes offered to me. But here? I know it would be amazing. read more
