The ice cream shop is cute! There were tons of flavors to pick, a few toppings as well. There were tables and chairs inside the shop. I've heard about this place from my sister. I'm a huge ice cream girl! I wanted to try at least 5 flavors of ice cream. The lady informed me each person can only try 2 flavors. My sister already knew which flavor she wanted. I jokingly said I'll take my sister's 2 free samples as well. The worker got super serious, saying we couldn't transfer/give away samples? She was unreasonably rude. Why does it matter if my sister gives her samples away? If she asked for a sample, she couldn't share? The lady just didn't want to, enforcing a "policy rule". The base of the ice cream tasted vanilla. I liked the bing cherry better than my coffee ice cream. I'd come back and try a different flavor. I grew up in Eugene; I didn't even move until I was well into my 20s. But until a recent visit home I never had been to Prince Puckler's. This location is just off the UO campus at 19th and Agate. It can get busy in the warm months, but I think the line can move pretty darn quickly. When we visited there was only one or two folks in front of us so we got lucky. Anyway, you're here for the ice cream and not necessarily the logistics. They have a couple dozen flavors and my choice was the marionberry ice cream, a special the day we were here I think. It was sooo good! Very creamy and the flavor was fantastic. They had some other flavors that looked tasty, but if marionberry is on the menu it's almost always going to be my choice. Prices were reasonable so why not stop here for a treat? There's lots of seating around the outside as well. They have an instagram page so that'll keep you up to date. The price points are fabulous, as we got out of Prince Pückler's with two single servings (BIG scoops, like I had to tell the kid 'That's enough') for under ten bucks. A must for ice cream when you're in Eugene! Located on the southeast side of campus, this place is worth walking to if you're in the area! They have a huge assortment of flavors (they let you sample up to 2 flavors) and the portion sizes are really big. A single scoop here is as big as double scoops elsewhere. We stopped by Prince Pucklers on the day of the Eugene marathon. We were promptly and politely greeted. I ordered a scoop of Galaxy and Chocolate lovers. The Galaxy didn't have a strong malt flavor, which was surprising. Two scoops was about $8 but was a large serving for the price. We stopped to have lunch at the place next door and they weren't open yet, so we decided to grab dessert first! There's some seating inside, but I imagine it gets quite busy at night. It was still pretty busy considering it was noon and they had just opened. They have a small merch corner and some pictures of some famous folks who've enjoyed their ice cream, including Obama. They have so many flavors, truly an impressive array. They do limit samples, so choose wisely or plan to share. I ended up going with the red raspberry cheesecake as that seemed to be a favorite both in the shop and on Yelp. It had a very generous, very red, swirl and was a true delight. I happened to be there on a Tuesday when they have a $5 sundae, so I went with that. While visiting Eugene for a long weekend I was craving something sweet, and I decided to try this local ice cream favorite. The exterior and interior are nothing fancy, but it's that of a typical ice cream parlor. The establishment was relatively clean, and the staff was relatively friendly. The ice cream flavors and dishes were quite extensive. I was slightly disappointed that with such a variety of flavors we were only allowed to try 3 of them. Also, it felt as though we were slightly rushed through the ordering process. Being both a coffee and ice cream lover, affogato is one of my all time favorite desserts. I have been going to Prince Puckler's for literal decades. This visit we came here after dinner across the street at Agate Alley. It has the feel of being your *local* ice cream store (and if I lived in Eugene it would definitely be mine!) There is almost always a line out the door and I'm not sure they have grown the space since the beginning (although they certainly could if they wanted to). I had one of their coffee varieties (of which they had a few) and had the Friday special which in this case meant ice cream, banana, hot fudge and nuts for $5. My companions were big fans of the peppermint, which also looked delicious, but I wasn't sure how mint and banana would go. Everyone left happy. We've been going there on every family event for years, however, the staff has gotten incredibly rude. The ice cream is amazing, so much so that they will have a line out the door. The issue is that they expect you to order right inside the door and only allow one group at a time inside. I'm lactose intolerant and can't eat ice cream, but my husband loves ice cream. Sometimes he'll ask my opinion on a flavor before picking it, so I usually stand next to or behind him when he orders. Nowadays, if I do this, I get yelled at to go outside or sit down. They say it's to be fire code compliant, but if they wanted to open up the door space, they could just rearrange so that you don't start your order at the door. Also the table area is really crowded, which is why most people eat outside. Another incident that comes to mind is that one time, it was raining outside and the group ahead of us grabbed my husband and pulled him inside because they saw him waiting in the rain. He then got yelled at by someone (I assume the manager) who came out of the back room just to tell him to wait outside. A friend and I were running into town to see a performance. As the driver, I like to get hopped up on sugary goodness before doing a two hour trek back to my part of the world. I did really good too since i-5 was a whole lotta fog so having an alert state was very helpful! After our show we dropped in and first impressions were that we were the only non college kids here and would have felt our age but the college kids were all just each group engaged with each other and we beat out a bit of a rush of people who came after us. The folks behind the counter were all so very kind. I ran to the restroom and got a pretty big chuckle at the sign in the bathroom. My vegan friend got two delicious sorbets to try - I had thought they had vegan ice cream too from the looks on the website but she was happy and loved the sorbets... they do have a crazy good selection of those. I always try two flavors at an ice cream spot and then get two flavors in a cup - that is my tradition. Honestly, the first one I tried I could eat a vat of - Oregon bing cherry... that was some of the best ice cream I have ever had and the most unique in flavor. It would be worth driving to Eugene just for that ice cream...no joke. I also tried the orange & vanilla sorbet which was amazing...a more delicate orange sherbet basically. For my cup I grabbed the mint Oreo (I was stuck between that and the Obama favorite - good ole regular mint chocolate chip which is a normal ice cream stand by for me) but the mint cookie was very very good with huge hunks or Oreos. I also got a scoop of the vanilla with caramel swirl. This is another flavor I felt was one of the best things I have ever had and VERY unique. The caramel is DELICIOUS on another level. You can tell they actually carefully make caramel and how they ribbon it yet keep the vanilla ice cream and that caramel also that creamy but separate from the ice cream has to be some insane secret. Every bit I was like HOW??? Seriously, to the level of mental damage not understanding how this exists but so happy that it does! They also have a case full of stuff we wanted but would not survive our road trip home.
