Had one of the best lattes here. The coffee had a nice roast taste to it. Not bitter and it was smooth. I also ordered a tea cake along with it but can't remember what exactly it was. Saturday Market was the first time I ran into this bakery. I was most pleasantly discover they were actually a café, too. Service by Emma was attentive and friendly, with sage advice about options. Ordered the same honey challah bread from the weekend, but sliced and toasted with butter. $10/loaf Amazing butter. Decided to add salt and cracked pepper and then I discovered they had an awesome hot sauce. Added a few drops of that, too, and it is very good toast. Decided to pick up some additional mini challah loaves $6 to freeze and take back for family's Christmas. Also ordered the maple syrup winter squash cinnamon roll $8. It was heated and delicious. Could not leave without trying the chocolate chip cookies just $2. I was persuaded by MR two are better than one and now I have one for the road. For a drink decided to try one of the J-Teas they serve. Just guess which one. read more

This place is an absolute gem! You know them from the Lane County Farmers market, but their permanent location is a cozy and rustic haven. Also they have the best cinnamon rolls in town by far! Horai Farm Cafe is a new spot that took the space of the old Cannery, right next to Cheba Hut. You might recognize the name from the Lane Farmer's Market, where Horai regularly sells produce from their farm right outside Eugene. Now they've branched out to a brick & mortar location offering coffee and housemade baked goods, as well as produce and meats from the farm. They have a pretty impressive selection. I tried out their mocha scone which was fantastic, with nicely balanced coffee and chocolate flavors. I would have gone for the pumpkin-spice latte special if it was a bit earlier... They also had a nice variety of freshly baked breads. The challah bread in particular looked amazing. I didn't have time to peruse the produce or the meat freezer, but I'm excited about the opportunity to get farm-fresh seasonal produce while enjoying coffee and delicious baked goods. The interior is cozy and the people working were nice. Definitely check this place out. read more

A cute little cafe with great drinks and food. Unfortunately, there is no AC. I was able to tolerate it on a 90 degree day for a couple of hours, but I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be for the employees. A simple wall or window unit or two would go a long way to make the space more comfortable. read more

When driving here, look for Cheba Hut, there is no distinct sign, I believe this was the old Cannery. I did street parking, but I think there is a parking lot somewhere on the backside. This store carries a lot of local goods. Mod-high price. I'm just knocking off a star because there were hardly any pastry selection which I was looking forward to from the pics posted, they just had a few bare trays in the front with minimal selection. I grabbed the shiitake handpie that was good, and the breakfast sammie, which was just average for $9. read more

I recently heard of Horai and decided to stop in and check it out Sunday afternoon. I was expecting just a coffee shop but it's a mini-mart too stocked with quality organic and natural products. The coffee is sourced from MAM and my iced Americano had a delightful crisp and pleasant taste. My daughter's oat milk latte was well balanced. I also tried the blueberry maple loaf which had a wholesome taste from the whole wheat flour but remained soft and delicate crumb. It was described as a blueberry pancake with maple syrup which was fairly accurate. The only thing that weirded me out was that the pastries on offer were just out on a tray and not covered, exposed for people to breathe and sneeze all over them or a fly to perch on. Yelp took us here, and it's worth the high rating. First, the baristas are great. Helpful, friendly, and aim to please. I had a turmeric latte (I can never remember the proper name on this drink), which was excellent and made with care. We were there in the early afternoon, and mocha s ones that were wonderful. The store itself is very interesting. It looks like the baked goods are made onsite. There is an appealing selection of groceries. It is quiet and comfortable. A great find. read more

Cute little place that just popped up. A small selection of baked goods, an assortment of farm things (including meats, veggies, locally canned products from neighboring farms, etc.). During the summer I bet the selection will explode to fill the shop; in the winter, of course, there's not nearly as much to sell. Potatoes with eyes and winter crops. This spot might be a little dormant for now but I have high hopes. Tried a ginger snap and it was tasty, fresh, gingery. They had a few challah rolls on offer and some biscotti. I'm intrigued to keep popping in and see what else they have. (Will they sell artisan breads one day? I hope so!) Looks like a pleasant and quiet place to sit. Seating does seem limited relative to the size of the space, so perhaps when the bakery is more established, they'll fill it with tables and chairs and make it a hangout. I'm not a coffee snob by any means but I do enjoy a well made coffee drink. I've been around the world seen things, done things and had the pleasure to enjoy many coffees. I have fallen in love with a spicy "Mexican" Mocha. Some have no spice, some have no heat and some are just chocolate milk. With that being said I have found my favorite here at "Horai". Very well done. The place is very quaint and clean. Everyone was polite and talkative. The staff engaged with everyone. It was a nice place to sit and relax and have a great cuppa coffee and a chocolate chip cookie. I was trying to do a little studying so it was quietquiet and peaceful even though there were people coming in and out ordering, it never got loud or crazy . It was just a comfortable atmosphere. We loved our visit to Horai! There is seating inside and outside if you want to hang out for a while, everyone was very friendly and sweet and the coffee was great. Lots of great healthy ingredients to bring home as well and I will be back for that. Eugene needs more places like this! Please support! There are few brick and mortar storefronts around here where you can get truly local, pasture-raised, corn/soy-feee chicken, pork, and the cleanest (and most delicious) baked goods! The almond croissant is to DIE for, their coffee is great, and they have a great selection of local produce and kitchen goods. read more
