I was looking for a salon that offered dry pedicures because I've always been hesitant about the more common spa chairs seen in nail salons; even when they're cleaned between clients, I worry about lingering bacteria in hard-to-reach areas, particularly the water jets. While Sweet Mia doesn't have dry pedicures, it was a great compromise. They use individual copper bowls for each customer that are removed and thoroughly cleaned with alcohol and barbicide. The salon itself is clean and soothing, with thoughtful textures (e.g., woven baskets and lampshades, plants, and other wood elements). I had been going to the south Tulsa location pretty regularly but one Saturday I wanted a quick pedicure and the 15th street location had an opening. I love the atmosphere, so relaxing and like being in a spa. The people are so professional and really good at what they do. I love how the pedicure chairs fully recline-I may have fallen asleep during my last pedicure! Sweet Mia may be a little more expensive than some other local nail salons, but I think it is worth it. I had the Citrus Pedicure, which included a scalp and shoulder massage. My technician, Kristy (not sure if I spelled it correctly), did an excellent job on my pedicure. She also has strong hands, and a healing spirit that made the overall experience heavenly. I can't stop forcing people to admire my toes. :) I also love that this nail spa is organic -- other nail salons I go to are filled with chemical smells, and this was not. What a welcome change! It was also quiet -- the only noise was a few customers taking cell phone calls, which were thankfully short. But the overall energy of the place is calm, restful and positive. The pedicure chairs have both heat or massage. You do need to make an appointment, you can call or make an appointment online and it is pretty quick and easy. Walk ins are rarely taken. The bonus is that your appointment happens at the time you scheduled it for. The prices well it is more expensive for organic (you won't miss that normal salon smell) and they also make their lotion and scrubs. So the ambiance of the place is nice. The massage chairs are really nice. However I don't know how much I love the service. The shoulder and scalp massage could use a little work. Maybe more lotion idk but it felt dry. My bf was with me getting his toes done and he felt as though he didn't get scrubbed down enough. It said callus removal was in the service and he said they barely scrubbed. Idk. All I'm saying is that it was a lot of money for an OK service. I've had cheaper pedis that did more. They always do a great job on my toes and don't make judgement on my less than perfect feet. I SO want this place to be amazing!! My first experience two years ago was surprisingly lacking. I went in for a basic gel mani and I gave the nail tech the benefit of the doubt.. maybe she's new! My nails were embarrassingly uneven (both thickness and length). When they started chipping three days later while I was out of town, I was grateful for the excuse to have them redone. Again.. I want them to be amazing! I want to have toxin-free nails! I wanted to book a nail appointment this time for my mom and me, but the website was not allowing me to book. After 30 minutes of trying, I called and spoke to them. I explained my issue and the woman just said, "you must be doing it wrong. You need to book online, not over the phone." Ok..? I wasn't really sure what to do, so I asked if she could suggest a nail service for me. I explained what happened the first time and suggested it could either be the nail tech's inexperience, or perhaps just a product I'm not used to delivering different results. I asked if she could explain the different services on the website (bio sculpture, etc.), and she said I can just look on the website and read about it and book there. WOW. I went back online, tried another 30 minutes, and was pretty dejected. Despite it all, I gave them another chance, and called back. Thankfully I spoke to someone else! She was new and didn't know a thing about the services, but offered to book us a basic gel mani. At least my mom and I were booked! We went in and had a very weird experience overall. The place is cute but the techs were maybe experiencing some conflict between the two of them? Anyway.. we tipped 30% and both of our nails were chipping within 5 days. I travel for work and couldn't have it repaired, so my loss again. The third time (why did I go three times?!), my mom and I went to the South Tulsa location. We asked again just for a basic gel mani//pedi. I kindly explained to the receptionist that my nails chipped in less than a week, even with gel. When I requested she explain what the different sections of nail polish were and which would be best for me, she said she didn't know.. and no one else working could explain either.... Seriously! So I grabbed a random bottle from a random section and thought maybe third time is the charm? Nope. Same thing. neither of us were content walking away and went and had our nails done at a cheap spot and are much happier. I SO want this place to be what it aspires to be, but there are some serious issues that need to be rectified... I scheduled an appointment for poly gel because I wanted to switch to a natural alternative to the acrylic gel I was receiving at other nail salons. It was two weeks before an appointment was even available. I bided my time with chipped and broken nails to wait for this appointment time. After arriving, picking out my color, I sit down only to be told that they can't remove the acrylic gel I had and therefore would be cancelling my appointment. I'm extremely disappointed that there wasn't a disclaimer anywhere that said they could not remove what was on my nails. I'm not sure what they thought was going to happen as people make the switch from acrylic to their new poly gel option? Book an appointment at another salon to remove that product and then move to their salon for the application? It's not convenient or efficient. I was able to be patient when waiting the 2 weeks for an open slot because I knew the services would be worth it. What does it look like when I've wasted the time and money on an appointment that never ended up happening? Extremely disappointed with their customer service, marketing and communication. If you want people to switch to non toxic be sure to first tell them that they have to book an additional appointment at a traditional nail salon so they can handle all removal services before even arriving at your salon! Only "clean" nails allowed! I also want to disclaim that I've been there for multiple pedicures in the past two years which aren't a regular service for me. It always seemed like something to do when someone was visiting because of the extra massage and "aesthetic" factor. I will say I've had massages that are rough and some that felt like nothing at all but I realize that's all preference and would have still given 5 starts. This experience really ruined their model for me. How do you expect people to switch? I'd love to know who you're marketing to? People who have never had a manicure before? I checked later and they had afternoon appointments available and lots of appointments on Thursday, but she didn't suggest booking any of these. Pros: I'm so glad my friends and I decided to try this place out. usually the cuticle cutting is my very least favorite part; this place did it so painlessly. All my friends agreed. It didn't even feel like cutting; just a gentle pushing back of the cuticles. The cleanest nail salon in Tulsa. No chemical smell. Super zen, very calming. Private parking lot. Accepts credit cards. Their machine also can calculate tip for you (if you're feeling lazy). As we were leaving, this group came in with a couple of adults and a bunch of kids. What a great idea! All parents should only bring their kids here. The all natural concept is probably better for kids; they don't need to be exposed to all the chemicals at other salons. And I hear, they have really cute kids chairs. Cons: The price. It's $40 more than what I pay at my regular place. read more
