Broccoli cheddar soup

Normally I love going to this place. I always order soup and they fill it up to the top but today I guess they were low on soup. You pay all that money for a small bowl and they can't fill it up.

We were helping friends with a "work weekend" at their newly acquired house on Smith Lake. We all knew we were staying overnight but none of us thought to bring something for breakfast. Duh. Anyhow, we finished a few last minute jobs and started on our hour+ drive home. Do I need to tell you that we were STARVING? We had blown right through "hungry" and were firmly entrenched in "hangry". We started looking for somewhere open on Sunday. There was Cracker Barrel of course, but we wanted something that wasn't a big chain restaurant. That's how we ended up at Sweet Peppers Deli. We were definitely at the right place to satisfy our growling stomachs. They open at 11 but people were already inside ordering 10 minutes before 11. We stood back and perused the menu board. Subs and paninis, salads, a couple of soups, a handful of baked potatoes and a few flatbreads made up the majority of the menu. There is a "pick 2" option where you get a 1/2 order of two items. After much contemplation, we both settled on soup in a bread bowl and a potato. The soup of the day was crawfish bisque served in an optional bread bowl which we both ordered. Both of us ordered potatoes too. Me, the bacon cheesy, my husband, the loaded. We were given a number and went to find our seats. After a short wait, we were served our meals. Even though you order at the counter, Sweet Peppers has table service - friendly faces refilling drinks and getting you whatever you need. We both started with our soup - a creamy base with decent size pieces of crawfish tail mixed in. It was very good. The bread bowl didn't live up to the soup though. It was soft but didn't have that "fresh from the bakery" taste and texture. Although we were full after the soup and half the bread bowl, we started on our potatoes. Mine was full of cheese and bacon. Unfortunately, the bacon needed to be fried another couple of minutes - it was nowhere even near crisp. The potato was a lot better once I pulled off the bacon. After a few bites, I decided it best to take the rest home. Prices were reasonable, our check was just under $25 and we came home with lunch for the next day. Hopefully we'll be invited back down to the lake for some relaxation. I won't forget breakfast again but that doesn't mean I won't stop at Sweet Peppers Deli on the way home.

Should be a crime to call this a pizza. I understand its a flat bread pizza but this wasn't even cooked. it was melted cheese and toppings on a tortilla of some sort. Save your money. I tried to air fry the missing pieces but ended up throwing it all away.

Okay, the only reason they get two stars is because of the employees. The food was very subpar compared to last time I ate here. I had the brisket sandwich and it was very dry and very bland. The Reuben my buddy had was also subpar. Dry meat with a ton of fat. As previously mentioned, the staff were all great in every way possible.

Southern club and pasta salad as a side

I came here to have lunch with my friend Julia last week. They had lots of menu items that looked good to me. The deli itself was very spacious and offered a great dining atmosphere that was very comfortable and relaxing. You order and pay at the front then are handed a number to display at your table. They also give you your tip money after you select your tip amount to leave at your table for the server. That was something new I had not seen before. I ordered the Southern club sandwich with a side of pasta salad. I absolutely loved the sandwich! The pimento cheese spread made the sandwich pop! The only weird thing I noticed here was that they didn't give me any napkins or utensils for my pasta salad. You have to ask for napkins which they keep in the back behind the counter. Then later I realized I didn't have utensils for my pasta salad. I looked around then realized I also had to ask for them cause they were kept behind the counter. I'm not sure if they have a problem with people wasting napkins but it would be nice if they at least had a station we can get them from if they can't have napkin holders at every table. And I think utensils should be brought out to customers depending on what they order. I had to keep getting back in line to ask for these things. So overall, I loved the food and the atmosphere. There were just some kinks that fell short in my first visit.

Cullman doesn't have much in the way of delis but I would recommend the newks across the street instead of this deli. We were starving last Sunday night and stopped in here on our way back to Birmingham. I ordered the Reuben Panini-corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss and Thousand Island on marble rye. A panini is hot and pressed but this was cold and had barely any meet and dressing. I asked about heating it and they said it has been heated- but it was cold? My daughter order the broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl. It was watery and when I asked the employee about it looking like water and tasting like water she said that was the way they made it. We have been here before and the food was decent but not this time. We will not be back. We will choose the Newks across the street.

The salad was fresh and sandwich was delicious. We were greeted warmly as soon as we walked through the door. Our server, Laurel, was attentive and professional to all her customers. As we left, they wished us a good day. This was my first time here but I will be coming back.

It's sort of like a fast food restaurant in you order the food at the front counter. However, they do bring it to you. I ordered the Urban Cowboy Sandwich with the Hot Cheddar Pasta. My girlfriend got the Veggie Quesadilla with Shrimp. She had the orange roll as a side. We both had fountain drinks. The atmosphere is kind of generic but there were plenty of seats and mostly country music playing. My Urban Cowboy sandwich was a steak strip sandwich with some peppers and a tangy orange sauce. It was really tender, with no fat, and served on a toasted roll. The Hot Cheddar Pasta is a variation on Mac and Cheese but so much better. It looked like ziti-style noodles with lots of cheddar cheese. Both were excellent choices and I highly recommend. My girlfriend liked her Veggie Quesadilla with shrimp too but had to take half of it to go. The front counter folks did provide a takeout box. It is a little pricey compared to fast food restaurants but the quality is very good and worth it. The price for both our meals with drinks was around $40. I'm surprised this restaurant doesn't have more business but perhaps it's fairly new. I highly recommend and would go again when I am in the area. It has a nice atmosphere and the food is well prepared and fresh.

We both got chicken sandwiches that were average size of a cfa sandwich. We've eaten here a dozen times in the past and the chicken in the sandwich was so massive you couldn't eat it all in one sitting. This was very disappointing neither of us had eaten today, our appetites were raging. It's not a bad sandwich. BUT for the price we pay, over cfa, we expect to get a more interesting, and a much larger sandwich. If yall have intentionally lowered the minimum size spec for a filet to be used on a sandwich, I strongly recommend reversing that decision because the oversized sandwich was a huge selling point. Aside from the smaller sandwich, all was well. The food was delicious, the girl behind the counter that took my order was patient and very thorough and professional, the restaurant was clean, there was a wait, there's always a wait, but we don't mind waiting for fresh food.
