The drinks here are amazing. Great vibe but the music is hit or miss. The service? That's another story. I've been there a dozen times without incident but last night we had a strange encounter with a white dude who was bartending. Buddy did not want us there. First, he tried to rush us out of our seats instead of asking us if we wanted another round because a group of white girls were standing behind us -- mind you we ordered more rounds when given the opportunity. The most bizarre incident happened 20 minutes later. It's a Friday night. Pretty busy. The elevator music is pretty loud. I'm with three other friends and we're laughing about something and this white bartender comes up to us and says "You guys need to stop being so loud. I'm trying to do my job." It was so odd that a fellow black customer came up to me and said "Wow that was weird." I tried asking the bartender for his name later in the night and he threw up his arms yelling "no I'm not doing that." Look, I'm not here to trash the service. The other bartenders here make amazing custom drinks and the other staffers are super friendly. But it's never fun when a group of black and brown people get harassed by mediocre white men. I think his name was Tom. Hopefully he's gone before the next time we show up on a Friday night. read more

This is my go-to neighborhood drink spot. The cocktails are worth every penny. My best friend and I come here all the time and we are never disappointed. Their drinks are so unique, perfectly balanced, and yet still strong. The vibe is cozy and the service is friendly without being overbearing. This place was very cute. I have always wanted to come here because I believe that they are affiliated with Hungry Ghost. Their brunch is simple, tasty and reasonably priced. The shirred eggs were my favorite thing. They were so well made and had a nice hint of truffle oil. I would like to come back for a cocktail, as this is a very intimate spot. Quality: Stopped into Sweet Polly for cocktails before heading to dinner. I ordered two drinks and also had a few sips of my partner's drink. First I tried Gold Coast, which is a sweet tequila drink with kiwi honey, strawberry liqueur, lime, and a splash of soda. It correctly is placed under the refreshing section of the menu and I could imagine enjoying it all summer. Next up I went with Dracula Parrot, which had rum, cold brew coffee liqueur, pineapple, and lime. It was very interesting, with the pineapple adding a unique twist. I think they are on to something with this one, but not quite there. I also tried the Heeringade, which had aged rum, cherry heering, benedictine, coconut cream, pineapple, lime and angostura. They currently have a nicely decorated outdoor setup, which was very popular on Friday evening. However, it is the inside that immediately sets the vibe. Utilizing the beautiful crown modeling, the ceiling almost glows, as strategically placed lights highlight both it and the bar. The front lounge area has one main piece of decor, a wall of green plants, which hangs over a long leather sofa. The music was classics and traditional pop, but without borders. Things you would expect to hear at NY cocktail bars and also at cocktail bars across the world. Crowd: Fairly busy on Friday evening. We headed over after work, and with the beautiful weather, the outside area was packed. We were able to snag seats at the bar, but you should consider a reservation, especially if it is an evening weekend visit. Service: We sat at the bar, which almost guarantees quick service here. I also appreciated the bartenders willingness to experiment with drinks if a guest could not find something they liked on the menu. Parking: Appeared to be a tough area to find street parking. I knew I was going to be attending an event at the Barclay center and I figured since I parked so close- this would be a good place to visit. The inside is small, but very modern. The time that I came was somewhat of a lot of people in here but it literally only took about 10 minutes before a seat became available at the bar. The atmosphere was a little loud but everyone was for the most part enjoying themselves involved in there conversations. The drink menu (to me) did not look all that appealing- half the things I didn't even know what they were. So I asked the bartender what cocktails he had- he said (somewhat sarcastic) there were 3 pages of cocktails on the menu he just gave me. I then asked his suggestion- and the drink that he gave me was more ice than anything. Although he did check on me to see how I liked the drink, I wasn't too crazy about it. To be completely honest, my familiarity with cocktail bars in NYC is limited, as most of my ventures for cocktail bars are when I'm travelling. At home in Brooklyn, I usually go for a good flight at a brewery/bar, but I have been meaning to find a good cocktail bar to make home with my partner. Sweet Polly could be it. We came on an unassuming Friday Night, a bit early pray-tell (10 PM), and were seated immediately as a party of two. The ambience was great - a small space that was crafted well. Gold crown molding on the ceiling, liquor on two of the walls framing the bar nicely, a classical painting on another, as well as a more modern painting on the farside wall, and then a living wall as you walk in to your left. I think it all really worked well together, and it, together with the dim lighting, made you feel like you were somewhere intimate and special. Before anything else, I went to the bathroom and found my nose filled with nice earthy must and amber scents. When I got back, we were basically told the menu is as it was, but they could basically make us anything we'd like - bartender's choice. That really appealed to me, but I ended up going for their house specialty cocktails. I first went with the Monty's Buck (Monkey 47 Gin, Montenegro, Ginger, Lime, Honey) to ease myself into the Amber's Delight (Scotch, Turmeric, Orange, Lemon, Mint). Both were executed in an amazing way - well balanced, very nuanced, and beautifully presented. At that, I didn't feel like anything was exorbitantly priced (the drinks were 14$ and 15$, respectively). The crowd was also the perfect age group (late 20s, early 30s), so things were very chill, intimate, and set at the right volume. We will definitely be coming back, as this is now my go to spot - the only thing I'd warn people about is that it is probably better for small groups (2-4) as the space is not very large. read more

I don't not recommend this establishment. I went about 8:30pm on a Friday night with two friends, we were seated immediately but it was the table that was closest to the door. When we are walked to the table the hostess told us several time to not block the entry way. That is a fair statement to say, however, the table was already smack in the middle of the entry way block the door and a complete fire hazard. Every time the rude condescending, passive aggressive hostess would pass she would tell us to move out of the door way. The drink are overpriced and the setting is only made comfortable if you fit their demographic (not people of color). I would avoid this place if you don't want a bad taste in your mouth. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about the ever changing seasonal menu and they are always happy to make suggestions to make sure you get exactly the drink that would work best for you. Every cocktail is fun and creative! Happy hour is fun and their food is tasty as well. I've tried the shishito peppers and the queso fundido. Both were quite good. My favorite though, was the cheese plate. You get to choose what you get. Options are fabulous. So good. The location is super convenient and the vibe is cozy and cute. read more

This place is everything that I want in a cocktail bar: a warm, cozy ambiance, friendly service, a noise level that allows you to have real conversation, and of course excellent cocktails. As an added bonus, they take reservations, which is unusual for a pocket-sized place like this. I find that a lot of speakeasies and cocktail bars have menus that are unnecessarily long. Sweet Polly thankfully avoids this and provides two main categories, house cocktails and classics, with a handful of choice selections in each. The Ginger Gold Rush on the classics menu is my go-to, but I usually pick a house cocktail as my second (you can't come here and just have one drink, they're too good). The house cocktail list changes fairly frequently so there's always something new to try. The decor is classy with touches of quirky -- one wall is covered with live greenery and the other has a Bosch-esque triptych. Behind the bar there's an assortment of Star Wars-related mugs and glasses, about which the bartenders are happy to share stories if you ask. One of the bartenders, Sean, has also created a delightfully eclectic playlist that ranges from Pat Benatar to Spoon. It sounds weird but somehow it works. Prices are pretty standard for a good NYC cocktail bar ($13-$16 each). You can get some extra value if you order one of their cocktails on tap, which are generally a few bucks cheaper but still expertly crafted. read more

I'm in love with the beautiful aesthetics of the place and the dapper bartenders, I wish I lived in the neighborhood so that I could put this into rotation for weekly stress relief. I don't know how this place isn't packed from open to close, we were able to snag five spots at the bar for a couple of hours early Saturday evening, and had a great time here. I can't speak to how the food tasted, since we dropped by after a full meal, but my companions had the shishito peppers and the octopus, and they polished it off, so I'm guessing there were no complaints. The octopus was beautifully presented though. Despite being the annoying patrons who asked for the labor intensive cocktails (sorry for the multiple sharknado requests the guys put in!), the bartenders were game to make any of the cocktails we requested, and even suggested a couple that weren't on the menu! We definitely made our way through a good amount of the menu, but my favorites had to be the off menu fruity gin cocktail one of the bartenders started me off with, the Ramos (sp?) fizz, and the staple Pink Panther. I don't see a lot of watermelon cocktails, and could easily make the Pink Panther my cocktail of the summer. Cute little spot! Came here on a Monday holiday evening, probably on the coldest day of the year. Came here with a friend and we ordered 4 different cocktails (3 different kinds) and a few dishes to share We got the Jazz Cartel - mezcal, grapefruit, raspberry, lemon, campari We got two Kick Flips - spiced pear brandy, sake, bitters and an egg white And we also got the Brooklyn midnight - scotch, coffee raspberry, lemon and grapefruit. Really likes it - my fave As for the food: We got some oysters- it was delicious! During happy hour it's $1 oyster We got the beet avocado feta salad. Unexpectedly delicious! Highly recommend. We got the chicken liver mousse which was really salty We got the celery root homemade pasta which comes with pecans and balsamic glaze. It good because you can taste its home made but it was way too oily We also got the creme brûlée which is licorice flavor. She's a fan, I'm not. What a fabulous find. I don't know when I bookmarked this gem of a bar, but I'm giving myself a little pat on the back for doing so. We found ourselves in Park Slope on Saturday night with a hankering for dessert and a nightcap, and Sweet Polly happened to be right down the block from where we had dinner. Sweet Polly is doing everything right: the service is quite possibly the best I've experienced at any cocktail bar, the ambiance is wonderful, and the drinks are creative, funky and seriously delicious. And though we focused mainly on drinks here, Sweet Polly seems to have a solid dinner menu as well (much of clientele was sharing a variety of small plates-esque things when we walked in). Came here around 10 on a Saturday night. The place was fairly full but not packed. Cocktail bars of this ilk are impossible to get into on Saturday nights in Manhattan, so this was a nice change of pace. The quality was just as good, the hassle cut in half. Great vibe here. A little intimate, a little lively, a little fun, a little chic. Just a great blend of all of the good things. The space is a decent size. We were seated at a small table near the front of the venue, still with a view of the magic happening behind the bar. Food-wise, we were easy. I wanted some cheese, the bf wanted chocolate. They've got a great oyster selection here, too, if you're into that. You can definitely get dinner and drinks here, but the drinks are enough reason to come. I opted for an assortment of five cheeses, all of which were delicious. I can't remember which was which, but I don't think I've ever met a cheese I haven't liked. Sorry for not being much help there. The cocktails are the star here. The menu is funky and varied with lots of risk-taking but little pretension. While I'm sure you could opt for something straightforward, Sweet Polly is all about its originals. You can choose from freshly mixed or bottled--we didn't try anything that was on tap, but I'm sure they were great, judging by what we did try. Each menu item is accompanied by a picture of the type of glass that the drink is served in. Highball, lowball....and some special guests (more on that in a minute). And I'm not sure what his official title is, but there was a guy coming around to each table--in addition to our waitress--who was offering himself up for small talk and cocktail advice. A mixology somm, of sorts. Wildly enthusiastic about everything and very helpful--he made the experience that much more enjoyable. Here's what we enjoyed: Southern Belle: Bourbon, Ancho Reyes, Creme de Peche, Amaro Sfmuato, Demerara, Lemon This drink was as good as it gets. Peach is the primary flavor, but there's a fantastic kick as well from the ancho reyes. Rich but still refreshing. Well-crafted, creative, seasonal and downright delicious. Even if you're not a bourbon drinker, give this one a chance. Fifty Shades: Gin, Cappelletti, Vouvray, White Verjus, Fresh Grapes, Lemon, Tonic My second drink. A fun interpretation on a gin and tonic, one that seemed effortless. Adding a few types of robust white wine, as well as the grapes, made the drink all the more refreshing while maintaining a pretty sophisticated profile. Who knew gin and white wine could be such a great team? Ohh Yeah: Brandy, Aperol, Rhum Agricole, Prosecco, Rhubarb, Strawberry, Vanilla My bf's drink. This baby was served in a shark. Yup. Pictured next to this punchy delight was not your typical hurricane glass but a big ole shark. It's served with two metal straws so I got to have a little taste. Fruity, rich and wildly dangerous. This tastes like dessert, and metal straws are just so strangely satisfying that you'll need to be careful with this one. read more

Probably my new fave for best cocktail place in Brooklyn. Used to be the Dirty Precious but sorry you have been topped! I love the flavor profiles of all the drinks. You get a good mix on the menu: from sweet to dry to the unusual drinks. I had the Mezcal drink with green peppers. The drink had a pungent smell and it is not for the faint of heart. Sweet Polly is a cute, intimate bar with good vibes. Easily accessible by multiple train lines and a short, safe walk over. Once you're inside, it has a dim lit, sexy vibe. You can choose to come here with a good friend for a quiet conversation or a cute date night. They have several specialty drinks to choose from with standard NYC drink prices. This particular evening, I chose a Tito's Martini (a little dirty). The glass was muchhhhh smaller than what I'm normally used to when ordering a martini. The waitress was sweet and welcoming I requested a table and ten minutes after we ordered our first drink at the bar she told us our table was ready. The first drink I got was okay it came in a plastic coconut cup instead of the wide cocktail glass show on yelp and my second drink was a pisco sour which was pretty solid... the mind blowing dish I had was the grilled octopus, perfectly grilled and stuffed with meat over a bed of creamy buttery mash potato. I feel deeply conflicted. The first 2-3 times I came to this place I had a really great experience. I sat at the bar and there were two different bartenders -- both very friendly -- who made excellent drinks. After those first experiences I came a number of times and sat outside and had a perfectly nice time. The drinks did not disappoint and the service was fine. Wow is all I can say. To start this place is pricey, but so worth every penny. Sean is incredible! Honestly one of the coolest craft bartenders I have come across, he whipped up this pistachio orgeat and it was incredible. The food was great as well, we had a stuffed squid and some oysters. To be honest I would come to this place to enjoy a knowledgeable staff that are genuinely interested in creating a cocktail that makes you happy. If you had to guess, would you think a coffee shop owner could pull off a successful cocktail bar? Spoiler alert: he can. If you think about it, a good cup of coffee takes a great amount of care to get right, just like cocktails. And Sweet Polly does not skimp on their attention to detail, just like the well-appointed Hungry Ghost locations. Everything from the paintings and triptych hanging on the wall, to the glassware and metal straws, to the living plant wall, to the paper that the menus were printed on. You could tell these were all conscious choices. The cocktail names are also a hoot. Some of my favorites were #InstagramModel, Do You Enjoy Jazz?, and Pet Ocelot (Archer reference?). I tried the first two - the #InstagramModel was very light and cucumbery, served in a Collins glass. Can't really go wrong with gin and cucumber, but not very adventurous. The Do You Enjoy Jazz? was decidedly more boozy, with blended Scotch, vermouth and bitters. Very well balanced. I had the Language Barrel because I'm a sucker for barrel aged cocktails. It was a little on the sweeter side (due to the Sherry and walnut liqueur), but I enjoyed it a lot. Call it a slow sipper. Don't think I could have more than one though. I also had the Rocket Lunar, which was basically a tiki cocktail served in a gigantic stemless glass. Also very summery, and pineapple forward. Loved how the tartness balanced out the sweetness. Even on a Monday night, the place was packed. Luckily, we were able to snag a table for our group. But if you think you can just drop in for a Saturday night date, I would think twice. This is probably going to be the "it" spot for the next couple of months (and for good reason!). Also, you get your bill in a book. So that's cool. read more

Terrible experience. I came here with two friends. When we sat down, we heard the bartender make a comment to his colleague about how we look so young and he's going to card us. Then he joked about how we probably weren't 21. We heard him so we were a little annoyed considering that he hadn't greeted us at this point or given us menus. We ordered a drink and sat and talked for awhile. He asked at some point if we wanted another but we were taking our time so we said we were okay for the time being. He then made a rude face at us because we didn't want to order another drink (we were going to but we were just waiting) and then he gave us the check without saying anything to us.
