Southern cooking to Avoid. Recently dined in at Sweet Pea's on 41A in Sango. It had been awhile and I expected it to be as good as in the past. An order of country fried steak with onions and a side of mashed potatoes turned out to be hamburger meat covered in cooked onions. The small scoop of potatoes and meat were so heavily salted I couldn't finish it. Brought it home for the groundhog. Last time I will ever eat there. For $15 I could have gone to any nearby restaurant for a healthy meal. read more

Since moving here a couple years ago, we've eaten here or via to-go several times. We really like the food here, and the service is always very friendly. It's a casual place, with tables and booths. We've had breakfast a couple of times, really enjoying the French Toast. And we've had sandwiches a couple of times that were quite good. But our favorite is the Meat and 1/2/3. Their food is absolutely and positively delicious! The serving size is huge! Their potatoes are real not instant. Their vegetables are cooked to perfection. The owner and servers are so good, attentive, personable and professional! I am not sure as to what was going on but our last visit was not up to par. We had the chicken and dumplings and I added black eyed peas and turnip greens. The dumplings were store-bought and the Black Eyed Peas were scorched. we also had peach cobbler with ice cream. The peach cobbler was all right however; ice cream was a low quality brand. Hopefully our next visit would be better. The food is rating at one star. The staff are very friendly and the customer service was great. First of all, let me say that the food is absolutely outstanding! You can definitely tell whoever is in the back cooking loves what they do and they care about what they do. The service was beyond top-notch, probably the best I have experienced since moving to Clarksville two months ago. The people in general are nice and the atmosphere is country and laid-back. This is probably my new favorite small restaurant in Montgomery County. A funny sidenote, we sat down at a table that was wobbly and one of the ladies there was so concerned about it. She asked us if we wanted to move a couple times, but our food had just come out so we stayed where we were. It wasn't a big deal. But it worried her that we were sitting at a table that was wobbly and that we might not come back because of that. That's definitely not the case! The worse service I have ever experienced! They all stood around at the counter just gossiping and glancing at us for 10mins. Then finally the lady with long braids finally made her way to us, after being told to wait on us. She threw our menus down, did not tell us the specials, then walked away. The food was mediocre. The staff extremely rude! She happily heated up her dessert and ate it before finally taking my card and allowing me to pay. We will never walk into this place again! What can I add that hasn't already been said? From the minute hubby and I walked in, we were treated like family. My coffee cup was never empty, the young ladies working there were so adorably sweet. The brunch was delicious. Hubby absolutely recommends ordering "Ella" for breakfast; he says it's one of the best country fried steak he's eaten and since the man is from Texas, home of Lard and all things fried I'm thinking he may be as close to an expert on this as we can get. I like the omelets. We've gone 3 times in the last several months (and this is about 25-30 minutes from us so for someone that doesn't like to drive it's got to be great to go more than once) and each time I've ordered a spinach, cheese and tomato omelet with the hash brown casserole. Apparently on Sundays you can't order much. It's limited to "brunch" menu which is the limited Sunday lunch offerings & breakfast menu. So meats are chicken meatloaf & Turkey. Your sides are limited to green beans, coleslaw, dressing & mashed potatoes. You CAN NOT get a salad as a side on Sundays. I'm really disappointed since I didn't want green beans or coleslaw with my chicken I wanted a salad. I asked him about ordering it off regular menu & I guess not on Sundays. My recommendations owners/management is if you're going to have limited items on Sunday then print a SUNDAY brunch menu & don't give people the regular menu when not everything can be ordered. Because of other reviews I decided to start a timer once our order was taken. It was 36 minutes to get food. Again (as another said) to get food that SHOULD BE READY. I've been to restaurants with "meats and threes" NEVER has it taken more than 10 minutes to get your food. UNACCEPTABLE!!!! Once our food arrived the potatoes were COLD- chicken was dripping grease & had ZERO flavor. The meat was a little tough & dry. This toughness (in my experience) is from poor quality chickens- older hens or hens given poor diets. The batter they use has no flavor, you need to season the CHICKEN as well as the flour mix. This place has great potential. It's beautiful inside & has a at home feel. Nice front "porch" seating. They are REALLY missing the mark on service & food- whomever is in the kitchen is FAILING at execution. I've worked in a 5star upscale Italian restaurant and I'm a self training Home chef with a palate of a wide arrange of cuisines. Our family went here for the first time today and i am so glad we did. What an absolutely great experience. This is a family restaurant with food that is homemade and delicious. The service was friendly and exceptional. We had a great waitress that took our order and told us all about the food and desserts, but she wasn't the only one taking care of us. The other employees were also working together to make sure we never had an empty glass, our table kept clean and we always had everything we needed. Was offered biscuits while we waited for our food and they came after our food and the restaurant was about 30% full so not very busy. They market a hash brown casserole on their menu but have been there 3 times and they are always sold out. We were there by 8 am Saturday morning. You would think if you knew it was a popular item you would make more or just take it off the menu if you really don't serve it, because I have not been able to order it. The food was ok, it was a little bland. I went back each time hoping something has changed prior to writing a review but it hasn't. The booths are wobbly and not level and there is damage to the walls. Looks like it is getting pretty run down. The table was dirty and the jams were not filled. It's clean, service is friendly. MY NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT!! Just like my mama use to make!! I was greeted by a very nice gentleman and very sweet girl named Mary Beth. I ordered the meat loaf with the special in-house sauce and 3 sides. Mac & cheese, mashed potatoes topped with brown gravy and of course I had add a side of turnip greens. All the food was perfectly seasoned. There was not one bite left on my plate...YUMMY. When you walk in the decor is very warm, inviting, & homie feeling. We went for brunch not having been before and really enjoyed it. I personally prefer lunch for breakfast but didn't know they don't start serving lunch until 11. So I sucked it up and ordered breakfast which was pleasantly surprising. I ordered the omelette with sausage and all the vegetables and cheese which was delish. They had the omelette thin like I prefer but stuffed full of veggies. I don't like when it's super thick egg. It had the crepe consistency that I love. The hashbrown casserole was tasty too. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy with overeasy eggs and fried chicken tenderloin. His came with fried apples. We also got the French toast. All of that came to under $25. I need to start with the best part of the entire visit...the people. The staff was friendly, greeted you with a smile, and welcomed you to the restaurant. Such a family vibe makes it a great place. They were very patient as my wife perused the menu looking for her selection. We have been here for dinner with friends and found it to be such a great experience that we came back again and the experience was the same. Our third visit was to check them out for breakfast. I think the food, and particularly the portions were right in line with the price. The biscuits though, man I could go on and on about the warm fresh biscuits that start your meal. The wife was a bit disappointed in her blueberry pancakes but was still very satisfied with her meal overall. I am not sure what they do to the Tater Tots, if it is the oil they use or some other seasoning, but they were delicious and you could not taste a hint of grease or oil. The eggs and grits were perfect and I will order these again. The one knock is that I would have like to see fresh squeezed Orange Juice, and not a gallon jug out in the open for all to see.
