My 2nd time here and i must say it is solid above par place to eat. The atmosphere was electric. there is something in the air in this place and you can feel it. All around this is a solid place to eat, have a drink and hang out. Unfortunately, it does not get a perfect 5 star from me because the waiter i had....well he seemed a bit overwhelmed with his orders and seemed confused. The manager had to even come over and ask me was there anything she could get for me as i was waiting for my waiter who walked by me TWICE not noticing i was looking for his attention, Sad because i really wanted to give them 5 star ratings. I really enjoyed brunch here last week. The staff was nice and made great recommendations. The menu is reasonably priced. I had the short ribs hash and it was delicious. My bf had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was so yummy perfectly seasoned, crunchy outside, juicy on the inside. The music was awesome! Those old school hits definitely had me rocking in my seat and singing along. The layout is spacious with rustic decor and cute little fresh flower arrangements on each table. Super chill vibe. Never would spend my money here. I just walked in to have lunch with 3 friends and was greeted by an (not to be racist but just to describe) A women who never stated her name but she was a women of Asian decent. We sat at our table the waiter came and something seemed a bit off with her. She came a first time and I was about to order and said give me a second and ran away.I was looking at pictures of drinks on their yelp page I showed her a picture like "which drink is this?" She said "what?" I said "this is on your yelp page I was trying to figure out what drink this was on the Menu" I first asked about there drinks which she had no knowledge about. She ran to the bar to speak to another employee then came back and said she needed ID, I then handed her my New York State ID she stared at my ID for 3 minutes seeming to try to do mental math, she then told me I was under 21. Lol my birthday is on the iD 02/02/1994? I verbally told her my birthday, she then told me "your ID says your under 21, there's no date of birth" she then gave back the of which fell on the table. Service was pretty quick and the decor was nice, but the food was some of the most mediocre I've had. The omelet (Juan Manuel Marquez) was supposedly their specialty and it was boring, and the beans, potatoes, and salad that came with were just as bland. I love the lunchtime burger special-a great burger, fries and a beer for $10! My colleagues and I go here a lot for happy hour and the bartenders and owner are friendly and make great drinks! All the food I've tried was solid and the portions are generous. The beer list is always good-so e standards but a cool new thing to try is always rotating in. My colleagues love the frozen drinks too-especially the blue one! It's a great, welcoming spot. The art tribute to hip hop is also pretty cool! read more

Nicki, the manager of the bar lives for Sweet Science, she's always there to oversee the great service they provide and the melo vibe that you can depend on, whether you're coming in for lunch, brunch or a happy hour. James has instilled his positive spirit throughout this bar and I hadn't known where the passion came from until I met him. You'll love your time here, just be aware not to get hooked. I came here with a few friends for Black Owned Restaurant Month. We took advantage of the pre-fixe menu, which included an appetizer, entree, dessert, and cocktail for $35. What a great deal! Before our meals, we had one of the frozen cocktails at the bar. Before 8, they are only $5. The peach whiskey is amazing! So refreshing. With the meal, I had the strawberry margarita. Also a really good drink. Sweeter than the peach one. Be careful with these. You can't taste the alcohol, so you end up sucking them down pretty quickly. Once we were seated, it took a while for anyone to bring water or take our orders. I think they were understaffed. That said, even though service was a bit slow, nobody seemed frazzled or annoyed, which tends to happen at other places when waitstaff is overwhelmed. The owner of the restaurant was our server, and he was very friendly and conversational. It's easy to overlook the wait time when you have someone who seems genuinely happy that you're there. I ordered the tangy South Carolina barbecue wings as my appetizer. Such a delicious flavor. The wings were perfect. Crispy and meaty, not soggy at all. It was also a huge serving. I was almost full by the time our entrees arrived. I had the hanger steak. It was like a mountain of meat on top of a mountain of potatoes. So much food! The steak was pretty good. Well-cooked with a nice glaze (balsamic reduction, maybe). The potatoes were also really good. Very flavorful, and real potatoes, including the skin (my favorite). The dessert was panna cotta. It was topped with either raspberry or strawberry topping and a sprig of mint. Yummy. I had a very good experience here, and I'm glad for BORM. The fries are soooooo good--sweet potato and regular. The fried fish and chicken were really good, too. However, please don't bother with those salty ass greens or the potato salad. **This review is just on the burgers (and a little on the service) Completely over-priced, less-than-average burgers and poor communication. I ended up coming to this place because of the positive Yelp reviews. After my experience here, I can only surmise that the reviews are written by employees, or friends of the owner, James. I'm going to breakdown my experience into positives and negatives and say that I urge you not to come here--at least not for burgers. The bar seems like it could be alright. Positives: - The initial vibe was cool - Very spacious - The maple pineapple topping is really tasty! Negatives: - Misleading menu for burgers. The presentation and extras for the "Single" and "Double" burger makes it seem (to 3 out of 4 of us) that the $12 or $16 burger comes with all the items listed below the description, and that you can add on cheese for $1. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. THE BURGERS ARE PLAIN (Save lettuce, tomato and pickles). - The waiter was not clear about menu items, even when asked, causing confusion. I asked the waiter what the difference between the "Joe Louis" burger and the regular burgers were, as they all listed the same ingredients/extras on the menu. He said the only difference was that the Louis burger was an 8 oz patty and the others were 4 oz. patties. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. The truth is that the single and double burgers only come with lettuce, tomato and pickles (which mine showed up without anyways), and each additional topping is $1. I WOULD HAVE NEVER PAID $12 for a plain, average burger--especially when I could go to Peter Luger's and get an amazing 1/2 lb Porterhouse burger for a few bucks less! - The poor state of the food. One of the burgers came out cold, another, ordered medium-rare was medium well, and two were missing pickles. All of them had a very, very small amount of fries (maybe 8-10 fries). - Upon paying the bill, I paid with Amex (the only credit card they accept here). When I got my copy to sign, it was $3 more than the bill I was given. The waiter quickly explained that this was the "credit card fee", and said so in a tone like "duh, this is that credit card fee all restaurants charge when you use a credit card". THIS FEE WAS NOT EXPLAINED TO ME BEFORE MY CARD WAS RUN. - The burger patty. I am almost 100% sure that the patties are pre-formed frozen pattys. Why? The burger was about a cm thick, and had flat, even edges around the sides. This is typical for a pre-formed, frozen patty. Much like a Gardenburger. This was honestly one the most disappointing meals/experiences I've had in a restaurant since I moved to NY a year ago. I wish I could get my money back and I would not go back for burgers even if someone else was paying for it. I hate writing bad reviews, but maybe a bad review will inspire Sweet Science to have a "we need to get our shit together" Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares moment. The decor is great. It's clean. The staff is hip and attentive, but the food is so sub par. I ordered the burger which appears to be THE item to get on the menu. Prior to my review, Sweet Science had a perfect 5 star review on Yelp. My friends and I passed up every other pub, burger joint, and dive bar for what was supposed to be the best burger in Brooklyn. I love burgers, but rarely eat them anymore, so the idea of an amazing burger sounded pretty spot on. That's what makes this so disappointing. I grew up in Ohio. Applebee's, Max & Erma's, McDonald's and Burger King were all a stone's throw from my suburban, any town USA, childhood home. What I would give for any one of their burgers compared to what I got today at Sweet Science. I got the basic burger prepared medium rare. The waiter did inform me that the burger was only 4 oz, but he didn't tell me that it would come out well done. It came with lettuce, tomato, and pickles with a "side" of fries. What I received was a dinky, overcooked, pre-made beef patty with seven french fries. If the meal would have been five or six bucks, I would have been satisfied at best, but the real salt in the wound was the price. $12 for a basic burger, $16 for a double, and $18 for the works (egg, cheese, bacon, onion), I'm fine paying $18, but it better be worth $18. I left feeling a bit cheated. I left wondering if I should stick a finger in my mouth, dust off my wounds, and hop on the L to Shakeshack. To the restaurant's credit, I didn't try any of their cocktails, and it seems like many Yelpers love Sweet Science as a bar. I love the location. I honestly hope that maybe the owner will read this and say, "maybe this guy's right." I don't mean to scare customers away, but I don't see Sweet Science staying in sweet business if they don't rethink their menu. I remember learning the scientific method way back in the 7th grade: Ask a question, do some research, come up with a hypothesis, test it, then draw a conclusion. Well, the conclusion has been drawn and it's time to rethink the hypothesis. Whether it be a new chef or new menu, something's got to change with the food. New York does not cater to mediocrity. What is with this sudden rash of one-star reviews because some kids who've "been in NYC for almost a whole year!!" were dissatisfied with a burger? If you're hungry for something Mama used to cook but want it done kinda dirty, if you like bartenders with Bart Simpson tattoos, if you have a story about a dresser you bought in the place while it was still a furniture store, this place is for you. As a new Yelper inclined to make an obvious pun, I'll say Sweet Science hits the *sweet spot* of what the neighborhood's been missing: a chic but welcoming place to eat AND chill. I discovered this place while visiting friends in Brooklyn about 3 weeks ago I have been there a total of 3 times since, The ambiance offers great tunes, affordable bottles of wine ( nice $30 bubbly). All three times I ate the same thing " The Catfish Sandwich" !!! It is theeeee Best . One would not think that Broccoli Rabe would be a good topper for a Catfish sandwich but it is a HIT . The happy hour is pretty cool $5 for a pretty generous Vodka and Cran, I went earlier this week 2 of us had 2 drinks each and a Fish Sandwich each for $45 . I live in NJ about 1 hour and 20 minutes away but now this place has me making up reasons to visit friends in Brooklyn more often. read more

This place is not it fam. Okay the restaurant is cute and stuff. But they play loud club music and charge loud club music prices for drinks that aren't that special. 14$ for some of their cocktails. I'm all about having a cool new hip spot in the neighborhood but those prices are gentrified AF. Also their food is weak, fried stuff is never that great. Got a salad that was sadly disappointing, could've made it better at home. This is a great place to go when you want to get a late dinner. The servers and owner were very nice, although maybe not the most attentive. It didn't take too long for food to arrive though. We got fried pickles to start which were very good, with delicious ranch and chipotle mayo. The burger was juicy, filling, and delicious. It has a hint of sweetness since it has pineapple on it.. but it really is just the perfect amount of sweet, not over powering at all. I dug this place. The food took forever but the bartender was nice and the tap list was decent. Yelp lists this as a burger place but I only say one burger on the entire menu (two if you count the veggie burger.) It was good, don't get me wrong, I would have just assumed there would have been a variety. Burger had good size to it and was cooked perfectly. Truffle fries were good but the portion size was small. I'd go back for sure. The music they had going was awesome and the crowd there seemed to be pretty fun. Really good place! Came here for Brunch today. We got the Shrimp & Grits and Biggie Breakfast. Shrimp were seasoned really well, grits could've been thicker. This bar is great! So glad to have it in the neighborhood! The staff is very hip, friendly, and attractive. James, the owner, is very welcoming and a great guy all around! The decor has a cool and dark, modern rustic feel with compliments of natural/stained wood and subway tiles. Walking through the door you are greeted with a Biggie portrait, paying true homage to Brooklyn. Being on a corner windows line the front and side letting in plenty of natural light. There is one flat screen TV mainly for sports games, but the staff and patrons promote a better social atmosphere, especially with a 3 sided bar counter. The food is very good and as of yesterday, has been updated with even tastier selections, after the installation of a new BBQ smoker! A more flavorful wings selection has been added, a personal favorite; spicy pineapple BBQ. not to mention, the pickled beet and kale salad with cranberry goat cheese is delicious! On a side note, the 1 star reviews are premature. You need to give a bar time to workout the menu and experiment with new creations. Having spent many nights here since it's opening, it's safe to say Sweet Science is serving up knockout meals now! We came down from upper Harlem to have brunch here and it was just okay. The staff is extremely friendly, but the food was so so. I had the biggie breakfast which came with a free drink (the big lini---champagne and grape juice). The steak was cooked well but wasn't a huge fan of the egg with a slice of cheese. The potatoes were just okay too. Bae had the chicken and waffles. The waffle was cold and nothing too exciting. The chicken was just okay, not really seasoned. Overall, I would only recommend this place for brunch if you're in the neighborhood. read more
