I claim to be an ice cream fan, which I am, but Sweetaly might turn me more toward gelato. The flavors are outstanding-so rich and powerful without the heaviness of an ice cream. My friends and I were on ísbíltúr, which is an Icelandic tradition where you take a road trip to get ice cream. We bent the rules a little and expanded to gelato too. I don't think anyone will mind. This darling little shop is more on the minimalistic side as far as aesthetic, but the gelato is the star of the show. There are lots of flavors to choose from, and we opted to try 8 of them. My favorites were lemon and pistachio-so rich and refreshing. Service is delightful and the entire experience was just fun. I'd love to see more locations of Sweetaly-maybe out on the west side, perhaps? read more

To say we are obsessed with Sweetaly would be an understatement, frankly. Every flavor we've tried has been amazing. The Greek berry was our most recent favorite. If you're sampling, be sure to choose two samples because they both go on one spoon. The employees there are young but always do a decent job, even when it's busy. It's bright and pretty in there and always clean. This is a little bit out of the way for us, which is probably good because if it were close we'd go broke. If you haven't been yet, get there. Such a great little spot. The gelato is absolutely fantastic, which is already enough. But the service sets this spot apart. We have two toddlers who love coming here. They can be rambunctious and curious, and the staff are always so kind and welcoming with them and our family. This has quickly become a traditional spot for us. The gelato is great and taste like when we went to Italy last year, but they need to work on the staff. I ordered a Gelato cake cost $60, I ordered it a week in advance, told the staff that I would pick it up the following Saturday morning around 10...she said that would be fine, I even called that evening to let the staff member know that I wanted to add a name to the cake and I reintegrated that I would pick it up saturday morning around 10, again she said that would be fine, but when my husband went pick it up at 10:30 he found that they did not open until 12:00, no one told us this. My husband returned home to the birthday party that we had in progress and had to go back to sweethaly to pick it up. So was it the worse thing in the world, no, but was inconvenient, Yes. They should have told us at the time of purchase that they did not open until noon and we would have had it pick up the night before for our party. read more

I liked this as an ice cream, but it is very far off from how an actual gelato is supposed to taste. We got: Rocky Road, Salt Caramel, Pistachio and Raspberry. Out of all the flavors, only Pistachio had a somewhat close taste to that silky gelato texture read more

The ice cream is good, not anything special. But first impressions- the shop smells like a toilet that really needs to be cleaned. So a bit unappetizing. I've been there 3 times since February and it's the same every time. The last time I just turned around and left. This is perfection. 4 of us had many flavors and everyone was perfect. Clean, beautiful, priced right. Just go! I can't imagine being anything but thrilled. If I had to nitpick and you can already see I will, they have these wonderful wooden spoons that they let you taste with. They really are perfect and make the gelato taste even better in addition to being climate friendly. I threw mine out after tasting but when you actually buy the gelato it comes with a plastic spoon. Sweetaly Gelato is a neighborhood gem located in Holladay. The store is spotlessly clean, they play period music from the 1950's, and 60's, their counter people are always polite, and PROMPT! Every month they change their flavors so there is always something new to look forward to! We've spent many days as gelato hounds in places like Venice, Italy, and others, splurging up to three times daily. I would stack Sweetaly gelato up against any legitimate gelato shop to be found anywhere in Europe! We often take home 4-6 pints at a time so we never run out. The prices are reasonable and the quality can't be beat. It seems like lots of teenagers and families like to go there. Uhhh how have I not reviewed Sweetaly, my most favorite gelato in all the land?! When I moved to the area, I was on the hunt for the best ice cream, but found myself disappointed by several local favorites. Forced to widen the search to include any frozen desserts, Sweetaly appeared on my radar. This was the only location at the time (they now have a larger and fancier one in the 15th and 15th area), and it is so tiny with just a bit of seating inside and like 3 parking spaces, but it's charming, and I loved it so! Flavors change monthly, and they are posted on Instagram, so give 'em a follow if you want to know your options prior to a visit. There are about twenty varieties, though, so you'll have no trouble finding something you like. At least a few are sorbet, so Sweetaly's got you vegan eaters covered, too! Employees are generous with samples, and I always end up trying at least a few. The texture of all is so, so lush and smooth, rich, but not overwhelming. You can get them in either a cup, sugar or waffle cone (or a pint or quart to go); my preference is two flavors in a small cup. They do anything with nuts very well, and a particular favorite is pistachio, which actually tastes like pistachios, and is not too sweet. I recently had lemon biscotti, with little chunks of cookie on top that were divine, and of course, all their chocolate varieties will be a hit! Additionally, they make cakes to order, and some are quite complicated and very impressive. I once watched a baker decorate one in the shape of a very detailed stack of books! They always have a few ready-made baked goods, my most favorite of which was their chocolate salami, though I only found it once, and rue my not snatching up every single package. Their tiramisu and cannolis are both excellent. Prices are reasonable from $3ish-$7 for gelato, baked goods average around $3-$4. Employees are friendly, and it's always clean inside. Since my initial visit, SLC finally has some great ice cream spots, but Sweetaly remains a favorite source of frozen treats. read more

This is our go to place for gelato. The gelato is delicious and the service is top notch.

We were disappointed that Sweetaly was closed January 2. We expected it to be closed New Year's Day, but were surprised to be greeted by a closed sign the day after. Undeterred, we went back January 3, and tried the lemon and hazelnut. Both were good. Service was quick. Seating was limited, so we took it to go. The shop was small, so I wouldn't plan on going with a group and eating there. But we were happy with our dessert and will probably return. read more

Very good Gelato and super refreshing on a hot day. I mixed the coconut and the Nutella. Super good. The place is quite small and has only 4 stool chairs and a table or two. Would be cool if they had at least two outdoor tables with a few chairs. It's definitely a grab n go type place. Other than that, the person assisting us was quiet and really didn't talk much. Would be nice if they were more engaging with the customers. It's nice when they ask "is this your first time here?" Or "Would you like a sample?" Those small things go a long way. I recommend a visit if you're in the area and in the mood for some refreshing gelato! We'll be back. read more

Hidden in a neighborhood - came here after an Italian dinner and felt like we needed to have an Italian dessert to wrap up the night. It was about 8pm and it was dark driving through looking for the place. It was neat because when we were looking, the place was lit with their backyard lights. The staff and service were super nice. Just about the best gelato that I have ever had. It was smooth and creamy and tasty and perfect. Not granulated, no texture of sugar crystals, and the flavor of the hazelnuts in the gelato was just a bit more than subtle but not overpowering. Absolutely excellent. Sweetaly doesn't look like much here. It is in an industrial neighborhood and the store doesn't have tremendous signage or a very large parking lot but it's here and we found it! read more

To everyone who says (and those few who likely honestly believe) this gelato is just as good as you had in "name a city", Italy (or Spain or Portugal). You are wrong. Gelato is meant to be dense (note: "dense" not "heavy") and creamy. Gelato is supposed to contain less air than American ice cream, thus providing you with a denser, richer, and creamier texture. Sweetaly's gelato is light (almost airy) with neither the creaminess nor density to give the right mouthfeel for a proper gelato. Similarly, Sweetaly's flavors are uninspired and taste like the half-baked efforts of a low-priced concentrate or essence. read more

Stuffs feel very patient towards everyone in-line so hopefully it was a one off or maybe they reminded the stuffs to slow down. Been here a few times and the gelato has always been great with rotating seasonal flavors at great prices for the quality. The place is quaint and inviting with indoor and outdoor seating. However, my two star deduction is for the service. We walked here because we live in the area. I walked in first with our daughter while my husband tied our dog outside. Inside a gentleman was being serviced by one of the two girls. As I was waiting, three other people walked in immediately behind me. The blonde girl not helping the guy in front of me immediately says hi to them and completely ignores me and doesn't even address me. She then tells the girl who was already scooping the guy's second order that she will take over and she can help the next person i.e. me. I didn't put two and two together until after I sat down and ruminated. Being the only minority customer I hate having to think that had anything to do with it, but it's not a great feeling. There's no reason she shouldn't have greeted me or helped me when she was available. Very disappointing considering it's not an environment I want my mixed race daughter to grow up in. read more
