The Boat Shop is the exception to my reluctance to make recommendations. This exception is not…read morebased on random experiences, rather a 20+ year history of having Rob fix all the stuff that naturally needs attention to a heavily used 29-year-old boat (1994 MasterCraft), AND our son's MasterCraft. For brevity, I'll simply provide a list of what I know about Rob: Tangibles: - Great mechanic - Knows boats - power, performance, history of quirks/tendencies - Dependable - what he commits to, he delivers Intangibles: - Memory (beyond boats) is uncanny - years ago I stopped saying, "you work on a lot of boats so I wouldn't expect you to remember..." I stopped because he remembers your name, boat and what he has done to it. - Knows the Lake - Very careful/mindful of your boat while it's in his care - ex: he takes off his shoes when in your boat. Who does that? - Honest/trustworthy - I don't know if it's instinctual or purposeful, but he gets it. The only way to be successful for as long as he has; ya gotta be honest & trustworthy.

Rob obviously has a heart for helping people, and he's wonderful to work with. There have been multiple occasions where our boat had a problem and Rob solved it quickly, easily, and gave us multiple options to stay within our means. Some friends on another lake always joke that BOAT stands for "Break Out Another Thousand", but here at Lake Anna we get to say, "Bring On Another Thing to Rob and get it done RIGHT!"

We first considered buying a boat in August 2017, and were all over the place trying to decide on the type and age of boat that we would buy. During that time, we did a lot of research online, but we talked frequently with Mike at the store about our needs. Mike spent time (over many different conversations) explaining the pros and cons of various types of boats, and of new vs used boats. Since we have a 5 year old son, and friends with children the same age, we settled on a 20-22 foot walk-around. Mike also helped us with the decision on new vs used. As a first time boat owner, it seemed best to purchase a used boat with an outboard that had already depreciated in value. By doing so, we're open to purchasing a different boat as we learn exactly how we want to spend our time on the water without the huge loss of buying and selling a new boat. Once we decided on a walkaround cuddy as the type of boat that can do anything from fishing & crabbing to simple leisure boating, Mike started searching and reporting to us what was available on the market. Eventually, we found the Grady-White Adventure 208 that we purchased and have used for the summer. The boat itself was in great physical condition. M&M fixed a small electrical problem when they tested the boat themselves, and kept us informed of everything that was fixed before we actually purchased the boat. Since we purchased the Grady, we've had a great experience with it. It's in amazing condition for a 16 year old boat, and the money that we saved by purchasing a used Grady from M&M leaves room in our budget when, like all boats, something eventually goes wrong or needs to be repaired. We will go back to M&M for any future service and for winter shrink wrapping.
