This place usually has such great reviews that I wonder if my chef was having a bad day. Steak ordered med rare was over cooked, baked potato tasted boiled, salad was from a bag? Soft drink was way overpriced.

Swift's Kitchen is the greasy spoon I've been longing to live by. There's nothing more romantic than having a spot around the corner from your house, one where you can roll out of bed looking your worst, and being revived back to life by coffee and eggs. Well, at least in my opinion, man. It's old school, maybe a little too old. Cash only, torn leather booths, the colors brown and orange surrounding the restaurant. Admittedly there's something charming about it. I'm a big breakfast guy, and Swift's actually serves a "big breakfast" plate. Two eggs your way, bacon, sausage, hash browns and toast of your choosing. I'd recommend their Texas toast if you like thick and buttery bread! As far as the rest of the plate was concerned, the eggs were over cooked, the sausage was leathery, and the hash browns weren't seasoned. These are fairly easy fixes for the kitchen and ones that shouldn't be overlooked, although at a diner like Swift's you don't expect a gourmet meal. I mean, it's cheap breakfast food. Our tab was $15 for the two of us and we left with full bellies. Our server was friendly and refilled our coffees. I expect many more visits to Swift's in the foreseeable future. Who knows, maybe I'll even update my review after a few more go 'rounds.

i'm on my 4th visit here and i am impressed. it's consistent. honest and great food. service is fast and attentive. i also enjoy the motown hits on the speakers here. i'm a breakfast enjoyer and split my time all over the city and i have to admit this is my favorite breakfast spot.

Don't judge this book by its cover. Once inside its homey ambiance offers up a variety of foods - I was there for breakfast and all the traditional foods are available. Good and attentive service - always offering up more coffee. Worth a trip.

Especially outstanding in this regard are Rachel and Mallory who often run the counter area. They both make it a true pleasure to come sit and enjoy breakfast. It's just thick bacon covered with brown sugar sprinkled on top. $10 I ordered the corned beef eggs Benedict. Comes with 2 eggs and a side. Choose the tots. The eggs were clearly not traditional poached, but cooked in some sort of cup or even microwaved. The Hollandaise was water thin and had no flavor. The corned beef was not canned, but was shredded and in long strands stretched across both slices of muffin. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't very good. Meh. Wife ordered a single piece of French toast as a side. That was pretty good. Oh yeah... there's a 1% kitchen staff fee, and a 2% "restaurant impact service charge", and another Edgewater Improvement Fee. They don't mention that until you see the bill. We came. We tried. We'll move on.

Maybe. Probably not, but willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. It feels like they found it on the side of the road in the middle of Iowa, dusted it off, gave it some spit shine and put it to work. And then personally curated only the most saccharine, soulless, slop they could find, really digging for the worst humanity had to offer on vinyl. It falls short of a crime. But not by much. If the US Gov't weaponizes that jukebox, we'd all be dead. It's the ICE of jukeboxes. If you can manage that and you're able to counter the irresistible urge to jam the small end of a screwdriver in your ear and wiggle it around real fast, then it's a cool bar.

I thought the brown paper bag covered cheap "mystery shots" would be fun! Until we tried two of them and all they were under that bag are the highly sugared nasty stuff like liqueurs and schnapps -- ick. Be cool if they did real booze, which can also be cheap as that sugary stuff. Boo. I thought this would be a great spot to get a high powered Long Island Iced Tea but I was massively disappointed. It's served in one of those tiny, skinny glasses where the ice cubes fill 60% of it and each shot was like a half shot or less. One of the worst long islands I've had at a bar and it barely had any booze in it (which is the entire point of ordering one). This should've been the spot to get a stiff one for a good price. Boo.

I usually sit at the bar and order from their extensive cocktail menu comprised of fancy-sounding ingredients. Their drinks are themed and highly creative. The bartenders are so fun, and I usually ask for their recommendation. The cocktails tend to be super strong! And there IS street parking if needed. Lots of interesting decor to look at. Honestly the vibe of the place (and probably why I love it so much) can be summarized by their neon sign outside: Rizz 'Em with the Tism.
