It's a no frills old school diner. Staff were efficient and friendly. Food came out pretty fast. Total bonus that they have a full bar. Everything tasted as they should. Worth the visit even without a hangover. Must try their pies!

    Colorado Benedict (it was awesome!)

Classic. My parents brough me here when I was a baby, and now I bring my son. A landmark. An institution. If I could give 6 stars, I would. This has been my families breakfast place for literal generations. Never go away Davies! EDIT: (NEW OWNERSHIP) The price has gone up, but the food quality has too. The food was excellent. Their "Colorado Benedict" was great. Not sure what salmon, capers, and pesto have to do with Colorado, but it was great. Sister had the divorce eggs, they were great. Son had the quesadilla, it was great. Between all of us, we were all over the menu, and everyone loved it. So glad that Davies is in good hands!

Barbocoa breakfast tacos, corn tortillas, eggs sunny-side up

I stopped in at Davies' for breakfast today with an older couple that I know. It's a retro diner with plenty of seating and great lighting. You can easily do up to eight people. I loved the black and white photo of Audrey Hepburn as well as the Beatles in the area we sat in. I ended up getting their barbacoa breakfast tacos, eggs sunny-side up. I thoroughly enjoyed the plate; the arrangement was top notch and was very eye catching as a result. I got it with corn tortillas and the barbacoa was juicy without being overly messy which made for a pleasant eating experience. All in all, it's got charm and character along with reasonably priced food. I'd definitely come back another time.

Pretty good place, but it is in the hood! Legit dinner but hang on to your wallet or purse on the way in. There are several car dealerships down the road on Coalfax, if you're in a pinch for food it's worth the risk.

I've been here a few times and it never disappoints The Country Fried Steak is so good! Freshly made at Davie's every day! Highly suggest! Excellent sausage gravy, fantastic potatoes, perfect eggs and tasty sourdough toast. The service is also spot on. Friendly, great recommendations and give it the hometown diner feel. It is such a solid diner. Playing oldies the entire time, old pleather seating, cool pictures on the wall and of course diner seating. Also, very affordable comparatively to just about everything else around! Give it a try, it's worth it! .

Food: my wife got a chicken fried steak I got the chuckwagon sirloin. We split each item to taste the other. The chicken fried steak is something we consistently order at diners/brunch places and this is the best of the 5 places we've been to so far. The breading was great, and I'd say they get an edge on the gravy compared to others too. "This is the first gravy of the places we've been that actually adds good flavor and isn't just there" is what my wife said. I wouldn't go that far as to say the gravy at other places adds nothing, but imo it was noticeably superior. I also got a side of the Fall menu pumpkin pancakes and it was amazing; I'll have to try their regular pancakes in the future for a fair comparison to other locations, but they were good. I suspect they were Golden pancake/waffle batter (or at least used some golden ingredients), and that's a good thing since pancakes derived from that brand are the best pancakes/waffles in my experience. The hashbrowns were the best we have had at the 5 places we've visited; whoever they had cooking today knew how to actually brown them and make them crispy. The churros were good. Not the best I've had, but they were definitely made fresh which I appreciated, so I'd give them a 4/5 on that (but everything else was honestly a 5). They were just slightly overdone in my amateur estimation. Food, visit 2: tried the lunch menu the next day because we enjoyed breakfast so much. The philly cheesesteak was solid. I lived in Philly for 3 years so I can't give it a perfect score, but I'd say it was pretty close--much closer than I'd expect a diner to get. Fries were solid. My wife got the Rueben. We split both sandwiches so we both got to try both. The Rueben was very good imho. We also got an Oreo shake which was better than at the other diner's we've patronized recently. Overall, the lunch visit was 5 for food, so whether lunch or brunch you'll be happy. Service: 100% 5 stars. Our server, Jeremiah, is amazing and I hope they treat him well. He was super knowledgeable about the menu and helped guide us through things I'm definitely going to try in the future. He also helped us look through the lunch menu because we loved this place so much I want to try a lunch item tomorrow. He gave us good insights as well--what's made exclusively in house, what's original, what contains pre-made ingredients and is less of a specialty, etc. Loved that. He guided us well, and I hope he stays so he can guide us in the future! I feel like this is a place where if you become a regular you'd get treated well. Service, visit 2: We had Jeremiah again and he was excellent. He brought me a pitcher of Diet Coke because of how much of that I drink. 5/5. Absolutely legend. Atmosphere: it's a 1957 diner on the register of historic places, even if you had a bad experience otherwise, atmosphere is gonna be a 5/5. Sure, it's old. Rickety. It looks well worn. But that's the charm. Competing diners try to imitate the 50s aesthetic, but this *is* the 50s aesthetic. It's actually from that time. And that's why you want to come here: you drive by and see this grimy, classic nostalgic 1950s diner, and it's exactly that. So I'd give this a 5/5 atmosphere. Looking forward to coming here tomorrow and in the future. I'll try to remember to update my review as I try new items so I can tell people what's good to get. I forgot to take photos of our entrees this morning but attached is a photo of the churros; I'll try to add more as we return. Edit: for future visits to keep this simple I'll just add a green mark for items we enjoyed a lot (5/5), blue for good but not great (4/5), yellow for "okay" (3/5), and red for didn't enjoy (1-2/5). The service and atmosphere remain a 5 until/unless I edit them otherwise. Photos of food will be attached if I remember to take them. Good ole Davies’
    David M.

One of my wife's and my early dates was when we went out to what was then a backwoods area--free from the city lights of Denver near Chief Hosa. We laid out a blanket and watched the Perseid meteor shower. So breathtakingly beautiful. Afterwards we decided we were hungry and so once the sun was up we decided to go to Davies' Chuck Wagon Diner for an early breakfast. Had the Chuck Wagon Breakfast of steak, eggs, hash browns and toast, that's still on the menu these 20 years later. Cost I think around $4.95 or so back then. Today the price has risen to $9.95, but it's still a great deal. And what's the best thing about that 46 ton railroad car diner that was shipped out to Denver I think back in the 50s or early 60s and is now on the National Historic Registry? Well they're still serving the same Chuck Wagon Breakfast. We were driving up to the mountains yesterday and happened to be going by the diner when we both looked over at each other and without saying a word reached out squeezing each other's hands and smiled. Turned into the diner parking lot, and went in and ordered the same meals. So lemme ask you this . . . how could I give anything less than a 5 star rating to Davies'? Sign me, David "Lucky in love" M

Honestly, I stopped here because it was the only place open to go to the bathroom, but I stayed for the food, and what a treat the food was! Some of the best diner breakfast I've ever had! I got the barbacoa tacos on corn tortillas! The house made salsa verde was incredible!

I enjoyed the coffee and the spicy sausages that were the centerpiece of my order. I wasn't as much of a fan of the plain biscuits and gravy that I selected for my side, but the eggs and potatoes were well done. Our waitress kept my coffee cup full and checked on us frequently. I'll definitely be back again, maybe earlier so that I can also get the French toast! (BTW, the half order was plenty of food for one person.)
