After a couple more of them, she was jumping off the deep end, floating, swimming back to the ledge and pulling herself out all by herself. But this past summer was a bad experience all around. I believe they also have a new director. My son likens her to Ms Trunchbull in Matilda. He witnessed counselors shoving kids, literally shoving them to get in line. My son was also physically hit by a counselor. Of course they can't verify it and other counselors didn't witness it or won't say. Both my wife and I experienced his counselor as extremely petty, without any sense of training, and badgering kids when they don't fit her personal preferences (rather than some value or rule of the camp). The YMCA is an already dated and dying institution. This is going to seal the deal very soon.
