Our friends recommended that we call Valentine and they were right. She was extremely didactic and warm with our two girls. One of them already thought she new how to swim but the other was definitely more respectful of the water and needed more time to let go and swim. Valentine is the best!!! My son (15months) and I have been doing the parent/child classes since he was 5.5 months old. My son loves playing in the water and loves Valentine. Even as a little baby he enjoyed being in the class. The class is interactive songs and teaches parents to be comfortable and safe with their babies in the water. Valentine works with each child at their level and daily temperament. I always feel comfortable that my son is safe. My son can hold his breath when instructed to, glide between Valentine and me, reach for the wall and hold on, is learning to climb out of the pool, and loves to splash and play! I was nervous for our first class because I did not know how he would take to the water and a new person but they hit it off immediately and he now looks forward to swim class. We love KidSwim. We've tried several teachers (changing because of schedule, not teacher) and all have been calm, positive and able to engage our kid's interest. Teacher Amy in particular has amazing chemistry with our daughter, and has coaxed her past the dreaded water-in-the-ears roadblock so that she can actually learn to swim! We love how Amy adapts each lesson to meet our daughter where she is, which then means they go so much further than she thought she could. Thomas is a great instructor. My daughter is 2 years old and she was very difficult at the pool. Thomas gained her trust and after 6 lessons she gained confidence in the pool and she's floating, kicking and submerging her face. It's not often that I take the time to post a yelp ad, but I am so disappointed in the level of customer service (or lack thereof) here. My son has been taking lessons from Melissa for 4-5 months now and his cousins have taken lessons with her for years. Today we were having an issue getting him to his grandmother's house for the lesson, so I asked Melissa if she minded driving 3 minutes more (literally 1 mile) to have the lesson at our house. She refused. I offered that his lesson could be 10 minutes shorter and that we would really appreciate her help. She refused. So I guess we got stuck with the lesson fee and she got to get a coffee ;) I ended the call with canceling swim lessons moving forward, as our son likes to just relax at home on the weekend. Lisa, Melissa's manager called me to see if she could schedule another instructor to come to our house. When I brought up the issue of today, all Lisa rebutted with was "I'm not having this conversation with you." Wow. All I wanted was to hear was something like "I'm sorry we could not accommodate you, let's find an alternative for the future, etc." Anyway, Lisa was so curt and just overall jerky on the phone, I will look elsewhere for lessons. Giving this place 2 stars as instruction was ok. I'm just not a fan of their customer service, and since it's a service business, that's a big deal. read more

This is our 3rd company we have done lessons with and we've been with them for almost a year. Even though I wasn't able to secure a season spot, the office has been accommodating when I've contacted them and they use an easy online system to book classes. Our instructor is Valentine and she's the best! She's firm but fun and thats exactly what a toddler needs. She knows his ability and knows when she can push him or when he needs a rest. Enrolling our daughter with Kid Swim LA at 10 months old has been the best decision we have made so far as parents. Our daughter is now 3 years old and can swim like a little fish! She amazes us each week with her progress. Not only is it amazing that she can swim but all of the benefits that come from being in a structured class. We consider Kid Swim LA our daughter's first school experience and we are thankful to them for that. We started with parent and child in the water swim lessons and then moved into private 1:1 swim lessons with Instructor, Valentine! Under the instruction of her coach, Valentine, our daughter has learned to listen to instruction, follow commands and put it all together while exercising her entire body and focusing on her breathing! Each week learning something new and making us so proud! I have to give myself and my spouse some credit too because we have stayed consistent with bringing her to her swim lessons once a week. We are in awe of all that she has learned at her three years of age. The other day, we were watching Olympic swimming competition and we couldn't believe that our daughter is being introduced and taught all four swimming strokes that the Olympians were demonstrating. Antonella is a wonderful swimming instructor! She is always on time, sends texts to confirm and is flexible when you need to switch things around. This is a great swim school. My son is now 3 1/2, but I attempted to put him in swim 2 years ago (I was in the pool with him the whole time) with Kidswim. He literally screamed the entire time the first 2 classes. It was super stressful and unproductive. When I let Kidswim know, they offered to refund me the money I paid and suggested I wait until he was ready. This made it obvious to me that this company really has a child's best interest at heart and isn't in it for the money. 2 years later, I felt my son was ready to learn how to swim and I looked at other schools like Philswimz and Swim to Me, but decided their method wasn't a good fit for my son and my parenting style. I contacted Kidswim and I liked that their philosophy is really based on teaching children HOW to swim (and breathe correctly) and not just survival swim. I signed him up, and his teacher Javon is wonderful. Shes playful with my son, and moves at his speed. She has a great warm and positive attitude and is very affectionate. She recognizes that my son is playful and energetic and uses that to motivate him to gain new skills, like going after water toys and acting like a shark. I would highly recommend Kidswim to anyone who wants a great swim school who works with your child's personality and development. read more

My 2 year old daughter took 1 session (6 lessons) with Valentine at the Mar Vista location. The pool was very warm (often too warm for summer!) and Valentine was terrific. One note on the Mar Vista location: a few house dogs which are nice but there was always stinky poop lurking in the air and you'll need to look down to avoid stepping in it. If I could title this review it would be "Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen!" The admin and accounting is very unprofessional since the office girls somehow aren't communicating well with the instructors. I just wasted time trying to deal with 3 different people about an incorrect charge on my credit card. After 2 days and many emails and phone calls, I believe it is resolved, but please (Lisa, Charlotte and Marissa) take this to heart and work towards one common goal of customer service. It's Under-Promise and Over-Deliver, not the opposite! We will not be back. read more

I've had a really good experience with KidSwim. I have a 14 month old who has been going to sessions for a month and our instructor, Melissa, has been really nice and a calming person in the pool. We wanted our baby to have a good experience in the pool and KidSwim really embraces this philosophy of providing a good experience where the baby feels safe. I've heard of other swim schools that do dunking and have a more aggressive philosophy. I also had a good experience with KidSwim in making up 2 classes due to illness and changing nap times. Marissa, a supervisor, was responsive and accommodating. I would just say that KidSwim could provide a makeup policy or process. I've seen other swim schools that do have a formal makeup process. It is hard to make it to every class with a napping baby who is constantly changing schedules. Also, I wish they had a Valley location since I live in the Valley. Overall, I've had a really good experience and my baby has had fun in the water and meeting other babies. read more

Teacher Valentine has been giving lessons to three of my children over the past few summers. My oldest, now 10, learned to swim with Valentine over the course of one summer three years ago, and still remembers his lessons fondly. He is now a confident swimmer and loves the water. My 8 year old has always been timid around the water, and it took her two summers of lessons to finally be comfortable with her swimming. She still has some work to do but is definitely comfortable now with swimming longer distances in the deep end. My five year old daughter picked things up very quickly and loved Valentine from day one! Valentine was good about working with their different personalities and has always been patient, warm and funny. She's very attentive to the cues from the kids- and will stop and work with them if they are having any hesitation. The new website is difficult for me to navigate, but a phone call or e-mail took care of my scheduling problems. The pools (if you are not using your own) are located at private homes and often don't have restrooms available, which has been a bit of an issue since we are usually doing back-to-back lessons. However the convenience of using these very nice pools so close to our home (and always very warm which our girls REALLY appreciate) outweighs this inconvenience. read more

We could not be happier with our swim instructor Nina. She is calm, warm, knowledgable and very accommodating to the needs of the families and children. My grandchildren, ages 7 months and a year, are taking private lessons with her at our home pool. My son (almost 2 y.o.) has been taking classes with Valentine for several months now. Her classes are amazing! She has things for all of the kids (and parents) of various levels to work on. Even though it is a group class, every kid gets very personal attention and I have seen all of the kids progress quite a bit. My son in particular is now addicted to the pool. At first he was excited about swimming, but had definite hesitation about the water and was eager to get out at the end of class. Now I literally have to drag him out, and the entire rest of the day he talks about it.
