I went to inquire about what I needed to get a 20 -swim pass and a gentleman kindly told us to bring two utility bills and the purchase agreement with our names on them since we told him that we own property here. We went home, got the papers we thought we needed to prove residency; however, when we returned, he was not there. A woman (red hair), who claimed to be the supervisor, and a long haired young man told us that what we were presenting was not enough because our utility bills had to be on both our names. My husband pays the bills so my name is not on the utility bills. We showed her our property purchase agreement with both of our names on it and she kept referring to it as a "lease agreement". It's obvious that she is incompetent and not able to discern property owners from renters. I'm sorry to learn that my City taxes pay for such incompetent staff that can't make a decision. She wanted to forward our request to the 'higher ups" to decide. How ridiculous! What a joke! My Santa Monica property taxes seem to be working against the community. The City claims to be sensitive to the needs of its senior citizens, yet we were prevented from using facilities that rightfully we should be entitled to. Why are they making it so difficult?

Anna at Hall Swim Academy is an excellent teacher…read more Two years ago, my son (who was 7 at the time) was going to another swim school and was doing ok but advancing slowly. As part of that school's safety training, they threw him in the water wearing street clothes. He was doing ok for about 30 seconds but then panicked and started to sink so one of the teachers had to jump in and pull him out. (It was partially my fault since I mistakenly had him wear long pants that absorbed water). Anyhow, he freaked out and got very scared. We continued to go to that school for several more weeks but he stagnated with his training and the teacher became frustrated and tried to push him too hard so he had a melt down. Fast forward two years, I started taking him to the Hall Swim Academy west LA location about 2 months ago and he started trying again to learn how to swim with Anna. Anna is extremely kind and patient with kids. She demonstrates what she wants him to do and corrects mistakes in his floating and swim strokes and has him repeat as necessary. She is able to recognize how much to push and when to give him more space and repeats instructions as necessary. He loves going to swim class with Anna and is motivated to learn so he can swim with his friends at summer camp. Yesterday, he had two major breakthroughs. He spent most of the class in the pool without wearing goggles which he previously refused to do. Then, on his own, he decided he wanted to try the swim test. So, he put on street clothes over his swim suit, jumped in the water, floated on his back for 20 seconds and then easily swam to the side of the pool and climbed out on his own. He was so proud of himself for overcoming his fear and is now looking forward to his next class with Anna. I am very grateful to Anna for her kindness, professionalism, excellent teaching skills and being such a good motivator. Thank you!!

Then they stayed with us for all the big and little questions. Our pup came to us with everything he needed for a soft landing, especially great advice! On top of that, you can feel good about this group. The work they do for shelter and homeless animals in the community goes above and beyond. By adopting our little guy, we got a love match, but also cleared a space for Wags and Walks to rescue someone else. Win win!

We've foster failed a couple dogs, helped place another through our online community, and poured a lot of time, care, and emotional energy into helping these animals. Despite that, we were repeatedly met with rude, dismissive, and condescending communication from staff, coordinators, and even veterinary partners both via email and when we would take the foster in for appointments. What was most frustrating was seeing the urgency around training and behavioral support suddenly disappear once they learned we were moving forward with adoption. The concern for the dog's behavioral needs no longer seemed to matter in the same way. Given the adoption fee of $500, we also expected a much higher level of communication, support, and behavioral follow-through than what was ultimately provided. Rescue work should be rooted in compassion for both the animals and the people volunteering to help them. Unfortunately, the way we were treated made it clear we will not be fostering with this organization again, and I would encourage others to think carefully before fostering, supporting, or adopting through them.
