Cornell has worked on my clock twice. The clock came from my grandparents, who emigrated from Germany in 1937. It had been in their family since around 1915-1920. The first time, the pendulum would stop swinging after about 10 or so minutes. For no apparent reason. He told me to give him 10 minutes or so. And that's all it took. And it worked great. The second time was about a month ago, when we moved. I had intended on carrying the clock with me, once the movers had cleared out the house. It didn't happen that way, and the movers included the clock in the items that they moved. When it was unpacked, the lens in the front had dislodged. 4 of the 5 screws holding the clock mechanism were gone and the 5th was hanging on by a thread. The pendulum had come loose and was rolling around in the back of the clock (inside). The hammer rods for the chimes were bent and loose. It was a mess. And a mess that no longer worked. So I brought it to Cornell. It took him about a month to call us. I picked it up this morning. And it has been running since I arrived home without a hitch. The repairs weren't cheap. But they were needed and with an heirloom that's been in the family for over 100 years, whatever the price was, it was reasonable. I read some of these reviews about his personality. I must first say I've never experienced any of the rudeness people refer to. And he's never treated me in any manner other than one would expect from an artisan. If you have a thing for fancy watches/clocks and need a service or repair, this is your place. It's on the expensive side of things in terms of price, but it's certainly worth it. Ambiance ======== The guy who compared this place to the opening 'clock' sequence of Back to the Future wasn't far off. I'm glad he prepared me for the quiet tick-tock awesomeness of the showroom. Basically, it's like you're 12 and you just wandered into your crazy (loveable) uncle's workshop. Service ====== In keeping with the 'crazy uncle workshop' theme, don't be surprised if Cornell (the owner and operator) speaks tersely and directly, like you're a teenager in his workshop. He comes off as a grumpy old man, but he is VERY good at what he does. He's kind of like the "soup nazi" of timepieces. Don't get me wrong -- I mean that in the best of ways. In the span of about 15 minutes, he removed a watch band link to size a band to my wrist and also performed a complicated fix of my newly purchased used watch that involved making a CUSTOM PART for my watch band. I was able to watch him (pun intended) the whole time because his workstation is front and center in his store. Compared to certain other watch repair stores in the mall (I'll let you look them up on Yelp yourself) that like to 'take your watch to another room' -- this type of transparency was appreciated. Pricing ====== Like I mentioned earlier, Cornell's expertise comes with a price. For that watch band resize + repair, I paid a total of $55. But he was done in 20 minutes, and did great work. Summary ======== If you have a fancy watch that you don't want to take to a mall-rat with watch repair tools, Cornell is your guy. The only thing Cornell could work on is is customer service skills, but I'm not going to begrudge him much for that -- he sounds like he's lived a hell of a life and does great work. read more

I am very sorry to say that, while he may have some skill in certain aspects of repair, such as changing a watch band, battery or even more complicated repairs, I would NEVER, but NEVER, recommend this clock/watch maker, Cornell Toncz. Though the shop looks like and old-timey watch shop, which was exciting, don't be lured in. I have an antique Rolex with problem with the stem after 10 yrs running just fine. Cornell went on and on about how he would fix it better than any watch/jewelry shop and wouldn't need to send it to Switzerland, like other people. He said it would run perfectly when he was finished. I was encouraged, as the watch meant a lot to me. Said he would need to open to give me an accurate estimate - made sense - but would likely be around $1,500 to repair, but that would include a full servicing (new crystal, cleaning, testing, etc.). Ok, please proceed. A month passed, no word; called; repeated everything; again I said please move forward. OK, older guy, older shop... just wait for good service. Another month, nothing. Called again; asked me to come to store in a week because he hadn't opened the watch yet (huh? it's been 2 months). I did, and Cornell told me entire story yet again, it would be $1,500, new crystal, stem repaired. Then he tested it at pressure to ensure water proof (right in front of me), so no problem there. He explained how other things could be fixed. I declined on new face (I liked because it had the '53 face) and had been 2 months already - let's get it working, please. Two weeks later I call; it's ready to pick up. Excitedly arrive, ready to happily pay for my watch. Cornell begins to weave an entirely new tale, nothing is done, stem still broken, no new crystal, no cleaning. Explains the whole thing yet again, "it would be expensive, $1,500, or even more." Replied, I said that was fine, you said you'd make the watch run better than ever. He replied that I hadn't approved and probably not worth the $1,500 to repair anyway (a '53 Submariner - what?). OK, maybe a problem communicating, he's from Romania, though here for 3-4 decades. Then he tells me it's rusted inside because not sealed well, but I thought you tested it 2 wks ago and said it was perfectly waterproof? Plus you showed me inside 2 wks ago and there wasn't any rust, and you never mentioned there was. Why now? (I have pics I took when out of case, no rust.) Leave with my Rolex, in an old brown watch envelope from the same decade as my watch, in a state of shock. Get home and find when the watch is shaken a bit, it's now loose in the case. WTH??!! I called and left a VM. Called me back the next morning and berates me and lies for 2-3 minutes straight; however, he actually admits it would still cost around $1,500 to repair. Whaaa? So I ask, why does it rattle around inside the case after you put it back in? It always did that? Uh, no it didn't. The only problem was the stem. He then says that if I don't like it, I can sue him. Where the heck did that come from, I just wanted to pay you to fix my watch. Then says he wouldn't fix my watch for $5,000 now. *smh* I truly think that, despite his bravado, this was something beyond his pay-grade and wasn't able to able to admit it. Now I have wasted 2.5 months, my mechanism rattles in the case, and have been rudely spoken down to and lied to for good measure. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP. On the bright side, he did have a nice leather band for my 1950's Omega. He installed on the first visit in about 3 minutes. That said, I'd rather have my other watch working and not be yelled at and lied to. read more

I inherited two antique pocket watches from the 1890s. One of them belonged to my great grandfather, a ferry captain in New Jersey. Neither watch worked and they were in very bad condition. I tried to get them fixed while I was in New Jersey but couldn't find any one there or in nearby Philadelphia who repaired pocket watches. I even searched in Massachusetts, where we have a summer home, with the same result. Finally, when we returned home to North Fulton, I found Swiss Watch repair and was determined to give it a try. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. When I brought the pocket watches to the store, Cornell was very knowledgeable and was able to tell me the age of each of them. He painstakingly restored the watches to perfect working order, including giving each a new crystal and stem. On my great-grandfather's watch, he reglued a very fragile piece of paper, with my great grandfather's name and town, to the inside of the watch. After many years of disuse, both watches appeared to be in the same condition that they were when purchased 130 years ago. Cornell's shop also has an extensive inventory of clocks and watches. I wouldn't hesitate to return to his shop for all my watch and clock repair needs. He is truly a one-of-a-kind professional; I highly recommend!! read more

I honestly cannot say enough good things about the quality of work and attention to detail that he provides. I had him restore a 130 year old clock from my great-grandmother, and he did it flawlessly! It wasn't cheap, but I am a firm believer that "you get what you pay for" and I was all too happy to pay for this out come. I returned with a 1954 Omega watch that needed a complete overhaul. Omega turned it down because it did not have an original screw, so I wanted to see if he could do this. I was once again blown away with the quality and the craftsmanship that was provided. It took roughly a month, but that's not an issue, as Omega had it in Switzerland for 3 months before they said they couldn't do the work. Those that gave bad reviews on here, don't understand what he has put into his craft and aren't able to realize what a true professional he is. You have to be ready to deal with him on his terms, in his store, in his area of expertise. If you're not the expert, don't haggle or debate with him. Background information: My 30 year old Tag Heuer divers watch bezel fell off, so I sent the watch, bezel, and bezel retainer to the authorized Tag Heuer watch repair in New Jersey. After a week had passed, I received a phone call from the repair place which informed me the part needed to fix the watch was no longer available. The New Jersey repair company sent the watch back to me, but the broken bezel retainer was not returned. Resolution: I took the broken Tag Heuer watch to Mr. Toncz, Swiss Watch & Clock Shop. He has been cleaning the watch and replacing the battery for a number years. He fixed the watch in 1 day. I was delighted to get to get my fixed watch back in such a short time. Mr. Toncz can repair anything. He has done amazing things with my husband's parents' German cuckoo clock and another antique clock we inherited from them. He has also helped with fixing a cheap watch for my grandson to use to learn to tell time, not to mention other miscellaneous things that were not really worth his time. if you have a thick skin and can tolerate RUDENESS go here for clock and watch repairs. The old geezer is rude, hateful and not at all helpful.. I have a bulova wall clock that was repaired by this shop several years back. He did a good job for reasonable money but lectured me about bringing the clock to HIM to change the battery.. Ok.. so I haven't taken it to have the batteries changed in a while, but when i took it in, the rude old man told me "you can change the battery yourself" & showed me how.. What he did not realize or take the time to know was that only ONE battery was visible. i had to take the back off with a phillips head screwdriver to replace the other. when I tried to hang it up, push the pendulum --- nothing. it wont chime it wont change the hour. nothing... I refuse to take it back to this shop and this rude jerk. obviously he doesn't realize his livelihood depends on CUSTOMERS and It makes me wonder how many others he's run off. He has serviced and/or repaired 4 high end watches for me (JLC, Omega, vintage Hamilton, and Rolex). The JLC, Omega, and Hamilton are vintage watches and they came back running as good as my modern ones. He is honest and I trust him and his work. He is passionate about his work and clients. His work is not cheap, but his prices are very fair and a very good value considering the quality of work you receive and what it would cost if you sent your timepiece out to the manufacturer. I have been to this shop on several occasions for repairs of clocks and watches. The service is excellent and reasonably priced. Repairs are always done in a very timely manner and a fair price is charged. All work is done on premises, so you can rest assured that your piece will not be sent out (small jobs can sometimes even be done while you wait). They have a beautiful selection of both grandfather and cuckoo clocks as well as watches for purchase as well.
