I have been searching for a great hair salon in the Valley for years and think I've finally found the most welcoming and calming one near the Coronado/Melrose area. I booked a trim for my thick, long hair a few days prior and was able to choose from a variety of pricing options based on the level of experience of their stylists. Booking online was a breeze, and I got multiple helpful reminders. Swoon Slaong was easy to spoon as it is a colorful building with plenty of parking. Once I walked in, I was kindly greeted by their receptionist and got a glimpse of the boho decor and gorgeous salon in its entirety. My stylist, Brittney, was prompt and quick to gauge what I was looking for with my cut and jumped into work. The care and attention detail she provided during my wash, cut, and curl was so comforting, and I love interacting with the other staff members there. I came to Swoon with a tall order and a challenging natural hair tone. I wanted a combination of light and dark color and a less traditional bob type cut. Brittany, who is also the owner, welcomed my ideas with a very wise transition plan to ensure the dramatic color could be achieved without damaging my fine curly hair. Don't go here. I'm a reasonable person and there is no way I would ever go back. I paid a couple of thousand dollars for 22" extensions that were put in on April 15th. They had completely broken off and disintegrated by mid-August. Extensions should last a *minimum* of 9 months. I avoided swimming, oceans, sunscreen entirely and took care of them extremely well. My stylist vouched for this as well. Pretty sure the owner is buying cheap hair and charging you a lot more for it. The owner offered to buy new hair (same brand) but no sane person would trust them or that brand again. No other offers of remedy have been made and it's really disappointing. 0/10 recommend this salon. read more

I should have just went with my gut. after reading terrible reviews I still booked. the girl I got, Kayle (I think) seemed nice. she almost talked me out of what I initially wanted. I went in with pics of a bob. just an easy, blunt bob. I've had one several times in my life. I went from hair down to my butt to a mushroom. I mention a few times that the length was a little long and ask if she would thin it out because my hair is incredibly thick. I lost my mind when she said she was done. it was awful! I told her this is not what I wanted! she proceeded to say she didn't have time to do another haircut and did what I wanted. she went and grabbed another girl named Aria who gaslit me and tried to "educate" me on what a bob and a Lob was lol im pretty sure I know what I want. I did let her finish and I apologized for crashing out. aria told me to schedule with her next time and she would take care of me. Aria is booked until August, lmao great! so now I'm stuck with with fuck ass mushroom "LOB". don't go her people, it's mean girl energy. overpriced. read more

I visited Swoon in June as a first time client and paid under $200 for a partial balayage and cut. I went in for the same appointment and it was over $100 more. I was so put off and upset, and apparently the stylist should have quoted me ahead of time. I worked with Tabitha who was really understanding of the situation, and after some support got my bill down to $216. But once I got home I saw an additional $44 charge. I was of course upset and called back because that's the 2nd time in the day surprise charges were in there. I should have looked closer, that's on me for handing over my card without paying attention. I wouldn't have purchased the earrings from the boutique had I known, but I'm sure it's too late to return them. On top of that, I'm so unhappy with my cut and color. Like the first cut, the stylist gave me a "rough cut" (her words) which I've had done before ahead of bleaching. When she went through with the dry cut, my wavy hair was air dried and not brushed out or parted. I thought she'd finish after blow drying like last time and have me stand up to get the V shape I like, but when she went to curl my hair, I asked and she said she already cut it. It's of course not even, very blunt and still has dead ends. Finally, during my first appointment I said I would like some dimension with the balayage, which she nailed. The second time I let her know I wanted it a cooler blonde (showed pics, and pieces of my current hair of the goal). Fast forward to the end result and not only is it NOT a balayage (it comes all the way up to my scalp), it's more yellow and brassy than cool. The owner was dealing with a family emergency so wasn't available to talk, but I was promised a call the next day. I let it go bc I was so busy with a wedding and figured that maybe something more came up personally, but almost a month later and I haven't heard a word from them. The stylist did reach out to apologize and offered haircut adjustments, but I don't feel comfortable anymore and don't want to pay more than I already have. I had high hopes for this place, but disappointed to have to find a new stylist again. Make sure to get a quote up front. read more

First, I'd like to start off with saying that I was in no way persuaded to write a review. I don't like when businesses do that. I have been doing my own hair through the pandemic. I have just enough knowledge to make me dangerous when it comes to hair. I apologize to all the professional hair stylists for writing that but I can relate to the feeling; I am a dietitian and there are a lot of self proclaimed experts in the area of nutrition. My last efforts in trimming my hair were futile and I found myself in desperate need expert help. I hit a wall with my hair and it was not growing out the way I wanted. I can be impulsive in moments like this but my home hair management was doing me no favors my goal of long hair. In my desperation, I searched Yelp and found Swoon salon which had good reviews. I called and was offered an appointment with Aria in two days. I did no research on her but I had this gut feeling it was going to be OK and I took the appointment. The gal said that the haircut would cost $68 if I remember correctly. I'll be honest, $68 for a haircut seemed a little expensive. I'm embarrassed writing that but I know good haircuts cost money. Covid just made me cheap and DIY all around. Anyways, I had an overwhelming good feeling about the appointment. Usually waiting two days in my impulsive and desperate state state feels like a lifetime but this time I was at peace, felt hopeful and resisted the urge to mess with my hair again. These are unusual feelings for me, especially when going to a new hair dresser. Hot diggity dog! Was I glad I trusted my gut and practiced the difficult skill of patience. The haircut I received was worth every penny! The service I received was worth every penny. And the salon experience was worth every penny. I knew that I needed a good 2 1/2 or 3 inches cut off of my hair to get it closer to one even length. I do not like layers but somehow I ended up cutting them into my hair. I feel like I didn't have unrealistic expectations of how much hair needed to be cut off and that the pictures I showed were somewhat realistically possible (Aria might think differently...heehee). I have a few friends who are hairstylists and they tell me horror stories of people bringing in pictures of hairstyles that are just not possible. I don't wanna be that person. I had pictures of my previous hair when I really liked it; as well as pictures of short haircuts that I liked and a couple pictures of haircuts with a shape that I did not like (the U in the back). After reviewing the pictures and a short discussion of a few things that I like and don't like, Aria said "I got you!" Now I've been in other situations where the stylist has said this very same statement, but definitely didn't get what I was putting down. However, Aria cut my hair perfectly!!Exactly what I wanted and none of what I didn't. She was an absolute pleasure to chat with and super efficient. I've had a haircut last two hours or more. I was out of there and looking fly in just about 60 minutes flat. Overall, Aria is incredible! So a great salon experience for sure; however, the real test of a good haircut is when you go home and try to style it all by yourself. I suspect many of you have felt a little dread at the point where your beautiful blowout has hit rock bottom and it's time to wash... To my delight, I just washed and styled my hair for the first time after my haircut. It looks great! I'm so happy with my hair! It feels so amazing to finally have my hair looking so good that I'm confident wearing it down. Now that is a wonderful feeling!! My hair is short for my usual comfort zone but I love it! It's a great haircut. I knew that I was going to have to cut a significant amount of length to get it to a place where I can grow it back out. Been in the same spot before and I'm usually counting down the days until it grows an inch. But in all honesty and surprisingly, I'm so pleased with my haircut that I'm satisfied just how it is. Aria, if you read this, I hope you are not offended by my somewhat inappropriately humorous but honest review. I sincerely want to thank you! You are in all respects a professional in your field and an expert in your craft. Respect!! I love this salon and had an appointment that I had to cancel on short notice since I contracted covid a day before. Super bummed that they still charge a cancellation fee of $50. Mia is such an incredible stylist I've seen her for a haircut (the best I've ever had) and she applied hand tied extensions for me. She has done such a great job cutting my hair and with the extension application. I have heard bad things about hand tied extensions but it all depends on the professional. Thankfully, due to her expertise I didn't have any breakage when I had them removed. If you're looking for an amazing stylist and someone that takes their time, listens and asks questions to make sure you get exactly what you want you need to book with her! Stylist was not able to understand the style of my hair after explaining and showing a picture of myself after my last cut. She made an odd comment on my bangs and then continued to ask multiple times about the length of the layers of my hair. She gave the impression that she did not know how to cut my hair and implied it was my fault for not explaining well. In my experience a confident stylist with skills would never do that to a client and can Understand what someone is looking for after it is explained and a photo shown. Also, she called me "friend" about 10 times. To put it in context, it went like this... "Hello, friend", "I'll be your stylist today, friend" "how would you like your hair friend?". this was one of the best experiences i've ever had at a salon. the receptionist was super kind and helpful, the whole salon was beautiful and kaeley was very kind and understood exactly what type of haircut i was aiming for. i have very thick, afro texture hair that i prefer to wear straightened, and that causes most salons and stylists to turn me away or charge me more as its a lot of work but kaeley was able to work with it no problem with no upcharge and im so incredibly grateful! if you want a more alternative hair style or just an overall wonderful experience getting your hair done i would highly recommend you go to her! read more

I went to Swoon salon for my first time and had Alba as a stylist. I showed her pictures, talked about what I wanted and talked about what I didn't like about past experiences at different salons. She presented me with a ton of knowledge and confidence. I was comfortable leaving my hair in her hands. I have very thick hair and a LOT of it. I got full, baby lights and a cut. Alba took her time, was very meticulous, and provided exactly what I asked for. I never schedule follow-up hair appointments, but did with Alba. I have been going here for the past year. As a business they have done a fantastic job with social distancing and cleaning, providing masks during a pandemic. The hair stylists are very talented. I was very disappointed with my last visit as I was charged extra fees and if I hadn't asked why my total was so much higher than before they wouldn't have disclosed to me that now they are charging a COVID fee and product fee. The reason was because Brittany (the owner) let a customer borrow her personal cell phone for an important phone interview they had to do since their phone was dead. I was impressed by that quality of customer service before I even had my haircut. It's a very inviting and friendly environment. It's in a great part of Phoenix, very artsy and has great vibes. While a friend was getting his hair cut by Brittany, I had the pleasure of having Lisa cut mine. She did really well and now I'm getting my haircut here for the second time. This is a lovely salon with a cute boutique area inside. My visit from out of town was supposed to last 2 weeks, then it stretched to 3, at which point I really needed something done about my hair (my stylist back home had to cancel my appointment the day before I left town, so I was feeling especially haggard. I know, first world problems.). I was able to easily book an appointment online a week out with Mia for a cut and color. My appointment started half an hour late due to Mia's previous customer changing their mind multiple times during the service; this wasn't Mia's fault and she apologized for the wait, but I would have appreciated an update from someone while waiting. After discussing what would look best for my hair, we decided to do some soft partial highlights instead of an all-over color. The highlights and a trim ended up being $220 (!!!) which is almost twice what I pay back home in an expensive city. To Mia's credit she ran the estimate by me first and I accepted as I really wanted to get my hair spiffed up, I was just surprised at the cost. I am happy with the results and Mia was great at asking me plenty of questions to make sure I left satisfied. She was very nice and fun to chat with. I also picked up a couple cute tops from the boutique, and the gal running the front desk was very friendly. Over all this is a nice spot, just know your budget and request a quote for services so you know what you'll be doling out. read more
