My son has been going to Sylvan a little over a year now and the change I have seen is great. His confidence in reading has boosted and he isn't so frustrated. They have also helped graciously take on a new task in his schoolwork he has never done and guided him with it. When Paul left Sara and Melissa made it a smooth transition that you didn't notice a difference in care of my child or with me. Sara took over our monthly meetings and gave me as a parent tools and feedback I can use to help support him at home. This place has been an amazing life saver! We initially came here as we were at valley preparatory school, which has a grade higher in reading and writing. Our (at the time) kindergartner was struggling with first grade material while trying to navigate kindergarten material as well. Sylvan ended up being the light at the end of the tunnel and supported my daughter through the year and she has been doing so much better at her new school. I can't recommend the teachers and staff here enough, they are great and have open communication and progress. Where should I begin and when will it end with Sylvan? I few good questions that have yet to be answered by their so called directors. First and foremost, we sought tutoring from Sylvan to aid our son in improving his reading. We had him enrolled in tutoring through his elementary and decided to seek a additional assistance from this organization. Upon meeting with the centers director (Paul), he seemed pleasant and welcoming, His sales pitch for Sylvan Learning Center was rehearsed but we were eager to provide our son with help. His sales approach was reminiscent of a car salesman, the guys likes to doodle on paper as he explains the vague nuances of their program. One of their main selling points was their commitment to working with my sons school and teacher. We thought that aspect of their program would be a good process to validate his progress in their program and more importantly measure and quantify his progress at school. I want everyone reading this review know that without an external measurement of gauge of his academic progress, any feedback they provided would be fruitless. In hindsight, we did not inquire what if any academic guidelines were used to develop their program. Upon further discussion regarding the number of hours and cost associated with the program, we opted to pay $3,000 for 50 hours of tutoring. That broke down to approximately 2 one hour tutoring sessions a week equating to 6.5 months of tutoring. Now, lets fast forward a month from initially signing up with Sylvan. We were advised that we would receive monthly progress reports. Paul scheduled the first review with us after our sons initial month with Sylvan. It was rather concise and didn't5 provide much detail in regards to what and how he was being taught. Keep in mind parents, we all get to see our kids homework and take home assignments from school. However, Sylvan seemed a bit secretive about their teach materials. We inquired about the academic materials being used during the tutoring sessions but he simply referred to their generic and vague talking points as follows. *If you want progress, Sylvan delivers better than anyone else. See your local Sylvan for details. Now, lets fast forward 4 months after starting the program. The site director scheduled a meeting with my wife and I to cover our 2nd progress report. As he was reviewing the progress report, we both noticed that the information he was sharing was verbatim to what he shared previously. It actually sounded like he copied and pasted the information from the prior progress report. My wife and I thought we were experiencing déjà vu. Coincidently, we had our sons parent teacher conference the following week discussed Sylvan with his teacher to get her opinion of our sons progress since joining Sylvan. Sadly, she was never contacted by them. Keep in mind that when we signed up and handed over the $3,000 fee, we also signed a consent form granting them permission to contact his school and teacher. When we discovered they had not done their due diligence, we contacted them regarding their oversight. The following week, I ran into Paul at the center to let him know that no one had contacted my sons school and teacher. He deflected any responsibility by saying he needed a signed consent form. So, we provided him a copy of the original form they "MISPLACED". They finally made contact with his teacher the last week of school year. Too little, too late in our opinion In summary, we expressed dissatisfaction with their lack of follow through, their inability to take ownership of their mistakes and just today, I received a call from their Director of Education that asked how they could make things right. I provided her all the reasons for my dissatisfaction and I requested a full refund of the program fees and she nervously laughed at the request. Please keep in mind that through the course of our discussion, I posed some basic questions regarding the academic guidelines used to develop the program and what and how my son was being taught, she wasn't able to answer these basic questions which is truly sad for someone that calls themselves a director of education. Avoid this organization folks, more to come. read more

So far so good! I have a first grader that is coming here for reading tutoring sessions and he loves it. He really enjoys coming, he has fun and looks forward to his sessions! The office is located in a nice plaza and it definitely feels safe. The environment in the class area is clean and the teachers are always so friendly and welcoming. read more

We had such a wonderful time at Sylvan! Our 11-year-old son has been going to this center for the last 4 months. Right from our first meeting with Paul, the director, we were impressed by how well he explained things in a way that really made sense to us. We've tried homework help before, but it never really stuck for our son - just a temporary fix to get through assignments. The Covid-19 pandemic set my daughters back with school in reading and math. Sylvan has made great strides on catching them up. They would fight their mother and I when we would work on English and Math with them. It was to the point they hated English and Math. I remembered as a kid my parents took me to the Diamond Bar location for tutoring. It helped me tremendously and I enjoyed going. So we looked up if there was a Sylvan around us. We found the Redlands location. They now love English and math. Also a big plus is the girls also really love going. I highly recommend Sylvan Learning Center. They do great work with the kids and make it enjoyable for them to learn on subjects they are struggling in. read more

This was my 1st time sending my children to any sort of learning center. The first time I dropped them off, I watched them go in with a teacher. No real introduction or tour of the facility. I did not get to meet who would be teaching my children either. I was uneasy about it but with my 1yr old with me I allowed them to go inside, and I walked around outside staying close by. I took a little drive to let my 1yr old fall asleep. There was no parking out front, so I waited behind vehicles for my kids to come out. As I waited for a car to pull out so I could pull in, I witnessed a teacher usher my children out the door and closed it behind her. There my 2 kids stood, unchaperoned outside of the facility. I thought that was unsafe and didn't understand why they couldn't just wait inside their lobby. Luckily, I was just right there already waiting so they didn't have to wait but a min for a car to pull out so I could pull in. Fastforward to today. I had a few questions to ask, I approached Sara one of the directors who opened the door to let kids out so the 6 o'clock session kids could go in. As I begin to ask her my questions, she quickly tells me to wait until she can get the kids in the facility (all of a sudden it appeared to be a security issue to have kids wait outside) nonetheless, I waited. She comes back out with Paul, another director. I start to ask my questions; Can I get a tour of the facility? Can I meet who is teaching my children today? Can I see what they are working on? When can I expect a progress report? Why is my son learning 2nd grade math when he assessed much higher than that? I was met with a smirk that they don't allow parents in the facility. I'm not allowed to talk to or meet the teachers, I can only communicate to the directors (one of the directors was my son's previous teacher at his first session) I'm not allowed to see what they are working on either. As for a progress report? I'll receive one at the end of the month. My kids are only signed up for 1 month. Sara then says "Oh, we can get you one in 2 weeks since my kids attend 3 times a week. After talking with Paul, Sara and one other director I felt like I got nowhere. I didn't think I was asking for too much. As pick up time approached. My daughter began texting me that Sara was openly venting to Paul and another for all students to hear about our conversation outside, saying I was raising my voice. Very unprofessional to vent in front of students. It was not my intention to make her feel that way. I just hoped they could have seen the situation from my point of view as a concerned first-time attendee to their facility. I have reached out to Corporate so I will update as this goes. read more

My daughter (5th grade) needed tutoring in math. The pandemic and a crappy teacher put her way behind. We have used the summer to help catch her up. So far my daughter loves it. She wants to go every week and I believe it is helping her a great deal. We won't know for another week how well she is doing, but her confidence for doing math is improving every week. First of all I want to thank Heidi and Paul for all their hard work and dedication to my son's education! These individuals went above and beyond to get my little man on track and to graduate from Colton Middle School! Yes Middle School! He was struck with this horrible thing called Common Core Classes (this is my opinion and no one can tell me different!)... My son was given some bad information from his counselor that he was going to fail his classes and needed to get back on track with his grades! My son would stay up for hours and get so frustrated and stressed out with his homework etc. I used Sylvan before in the past for his reading and helped him so much.. Why not use them again, right! Jake got back on track, his grades and confidence went up, not to mention he will be graduating and walking with his class tomorrow...Jake also received a award for Student of the month in April! I want to thank Sylvan for helping us reach our goals and also teach him the right way to learn and carry on these skills into High School.. There not "Homework tutors!" The staff at Sylvan are actual teachers who are great and teach the students the right way and ability to adapt to any obstacle that comes their ways. My daughter has been attending Sylvan about 2 months, 3x per week focusing on math. She likes her teacher, Alyssa the best, however all the teachers are great. Her confidence continues to grow and she is making great progress to get her to grade level where I know she will soar! Our son was struggling with English before the pandemic, after the pandemic it was worst. We did get him help at school and read with him all the time. I called Sylvan to try and get help for my daughter with the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE). I called three times with no response. Finally on the 4th call I reached someone. He had never heard of the CHSPE test before and I had to explain 4 times to him in which he still did not get it. Finally he says that he would ask his Director and call me back. Our daughter needed some help with math to catch up so we decided to take her to sylvan learning center in Redlands. We were given constant reassurance that she will be learning same material that she does in classes room. The truth is it was like two separate class rooms. she had to do work for both sylvan and her class separately . She needed help not more work load , we payed more than $6000 in year and half we were there. Her grades did not go up because of sylvan it was our home study that helped her. read more
