I have never had a cavity or any dental issues. I went in for a regular cleaning and was told I needed an extensive gum cleaning and around $1,700 worth of laser treatment, salvia samples sent out to a lab, and a bunch of other random things. I respectfully tried to decline and asked if I could just get the basic cleaning covered by my insurance and they told me no. My only option was to pay $300 for an extensive cleaning or they wouldn't do it. Remember...I don't have any cavities or any previous dental issues. I would not recommend. Staff was very helpful and friendly as this was my first visit to the office. The check in process was easy due to completing my e-check in online before my appointment. Staff was great and explaining everything that was done during my first visit (X-rays, gum check, etc). They were helpful and great about scheduling future work and what that would look like. Edit : they emailed me stating they saw my yelp review (that feels weird and unprofessional but that's not really important) to tell me I misunderstood and it would all be done in one visit. You're not going to confuse me into paying for thousands of dollars of things I don't need. I know care plans. I know coding. I know eobs. I know predatory billing. I thought surely they won't do that to me, as my last appointment a year ago I was told I had one spot to watch because it could become a cavity, and needed a one visit deep cleaning. I think the cost was quoted to be like $800 after insurance by that dentist. I have taken excellent care of my teeth since. Was told the 'watch' cavity NOW REQUIRES A CROWN AND POSSIBLE ROOT CANAL and I need four visits for scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) and two fillings (on teeth that weren't even identified as a watch last time I saw dentist). Staff acts like they care and are responsive. However, what turned out to be a simple cavity fix is now turning into potential root canal because they cannot get the teeth contact to be tight enough. This will be my 3rd time going back to fix a simple cavity because my gums are super inflamed. And yes they did the laser (which did nothing) for extra $$. I had a horrible experience with Smile Generation and their 0% interest payment plan. They'll sell it as positive for the patient, but it's completely predatory in practice. If you don't pay it off completely during the 18 month window, you'll get 18 months of interest tacked on to your bill, at 30% interest. Tell them you want to pay it off in full? Sorry, you signed the contact. I had no issue with Sylvan Park Smiles, but I won't support any practice in the Smiles Generation network. My family and I will take our smiles elsewhere. read more

I am a recent Nashville transplant. I am a healthy, 25 yr old Male and have had great dental health all my life. I was overdue for a cleaning and checkup as I have been moving around often the past few years. I had my xrays done and was sent out after a short visit with promises of a "care plan" sent to me via email. The plan said the treatment for cleaning would take 2 appointments and $900 out of pocket. When I called they said I have periodontal disease in all 4 quadrants of my mouth, a pretty serious problem. (remember, I am a 25 year old with a history of good dental health). This alarmed me, so I trusted my gut and went and got a second opinion with my colleagues trusted dental practice. They spent a lot of time on an examination and explaining to me what they are seeing. Turns out, all I need is one good cleaning and I am set to be back on track with my regular cleanings. I don't have any signs of periodontalitis. The one area they saw was 2 teeth under a built in retainer that I struggled to effectively floss. again, they said it was nothing serious, just needs a little extra cleaning love! They also said that they have a history of clients transferring to their clinic with the exact same situation that I have just experienced. Please find another practice. Sylvan Park Smiles is not in your best interest. read more

Although the staff seemed friendly enough, I needed to be referred to an endodontist. They do have an endodontist on staff, but she only works one day a month, according to the staff, and she refuses to retreat previous endodontic work, so if you had a root canal in another state that needs attention, she'd prefer you went back to your old state and dug up the old endodontist. Friendly is nice, but I needed more service than they were willing to provide. Oh, and they said I needed a crown, but they never bothered to schedule an appointment for the crown, probably because I didn't want to get the most expensive crown that they recommended. read more

I really enjoyed coming to Sylvan Park Smiles Dentistry. From the time I entered the office I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist. There was little to wait to see the dentist. Everyone I came in contact with were nice, helpful, and efficient with their job. Dr. Sico is great! She was very knowledgeable and help educate me through everything she was doing as well as why she was recommending certain procedures. The payment person was great as well she understood my financial case and was able to set me up on a payment plan that made sense allowing me to get all the work done I needed. If you only read the first part of this review, I would highly suggest finding another dentist. While the dentists and staff are lovely, the recommendations for my treatment plan was truly ridiculous. I am a healthy 30 year old woman who has been going to a dentist regularly over the last 10 years and went in with no pain or complaints - just needed a cleaning. Sylvan Park Smiles estimated I needed about 8 crowns, 6 root canals, and I don't even remember the amount of fillings. This would equate to about $15k - $20k of work over many hours (meaning I would need to leave work). This was extremely overwhelming to hear, especially because the root canals were being done out of precaution? I had no pain in the tooth and the cavity wasn't that deep. The dentist didn't even check my teeth, just based it off of x-rays. The best part was that pretty immediately they brought in their finance person who wanted me to open a credit card and spend $3k that day! So many red flags. All this to say, I got a second opinion from my regular dentist and he was blown away. I needed NONE of this except one filling and crown. He said my teeth look great otherwise. So this is a $500 vs. $20k bill and not utilizing healthcare I don't actually need. I never write reviews like this, but I will be reporting them to the Board of Dentistry. I would rather not have dental care than go here again. I should have listened to the other reviews about how they overcharge and don't come thru but I thought I would go for the $1400 worth of treatments they quoted me. Was originally fitted for a $400 nightgaurd May 25. Had to come back in June to be refitted due to their errors and have called 4 times asking when I would be contacted about the nightguard. Each time I was told I would be called back by my dentist or manager and have received no calls (as of 9/6/22). I have never received a call back about anything. Then I contacted my insurance to find that Sylvan Park overcharged me $1000 compared to what my insurance says I should have been charged. Called again, asked to speak with someone about billing and was told I would be marked as a "priority," I have yet to receive any call or information. This place scams you and straight lies to customers. I have filed claims with my insurance, credit card, and the board of dentistry. Avoid the mistakes I made. read more

Recently moved to the area and due to proximity this place seemed like a good fit. To preface, for years I have consistently gone to the dentist. In my first visit here, the dentist did x rays and an initial check which is typical for first time visits. Upon the findings, the dentist told me I needed more than just a routine cleaning. Instead, it was recommended I do $700 worth of treatment. After requesting more details, they eliminated some the of the "necessary" items to only $90. They recommended: -1 root canal -3 crowns -2 overlays -6 filings And spent more time talking about their finance options of how to pay for $10,000 after one visit! The "cleaning" lasted maybe 10 minutes! And they would only do that after repeatedly asking- they wanted to an intensive $800 version. They try to scam you into laser gum treatment, needing fillings, caps, etc. that are totally unnecessary. Got a second opinion and they said I don't even have any cavities while Sylvan Park Smiles told me I needed a cap and 3 cavities filled... then I paid $400 for some laser gum treatment which was so unnecessary and they guilted me into it and made be feel bad about my teeth. I recognize that people are people. No one is perfect. That being said, I cannot deny the fact that I am deeply frustrated with my experience at Sylvan Park Smiles. My intention is not to disparage the character of the people who work in this office; it is simply to warn other potential patients from attending this office. I do not believe a visit to this office is worth your time. During my first appointment, I had a strange gut feeling that something in the office was "off." As I was checking in, the lady at the front desk began telling me about how great and wonderful the staff is. It felt a little disingenuous, but since there's nothing inherently wrong with doing such a thing, I went ahead and asked her how long she'd been working there. I expected she would say at least a few years, but she said it had only been about a month. It felt a little bit like a phony sales pitch? I thought that was a little bit weird but didn't think too much of it. The office was entirely empty except for me, but it took them 20-30 minutes to take me back. They proceeded to take multiple X-rays and assured me they would be covered by insurance. They told me over the phone before my first appointment and also in person at the appointment (before the X-rays were taken) that they accepted my insurance. This was in August of 2022. Last week, (this is now the spring of 2023), I received my EOB in the mail. It listed the X-rays as not covered by insurance. It noted that I paid the provider about $800, when I did no such thing. I was confused by all of this, considering the fact that Sylvan Park Smiles explicitly told me twice that they accept my insurance. Only after calling my insurance company did I find out that their office doesn't accept my insurance. You can imagine how dumbfounded I felt. I'm appalled! Why on God's green earth would these people take my insurance information and fail to tell me they were out of network?? Who does such a thing! How does this happen? They had all of the necessary information. Honestly, I'm baffled. Anyhow, as I'm trying to sort out this dilemma with the kind and lovely insurance customer service fellow, he tells me that it was odd that they took both a full mouth X-ray and a panoramic X-ray. He told me that typically only one of these types of X-rays needs to be done (NOT both), and only once every 36 months. Why they did both of them on the same day really confused him (and me). I also want to note that both of my visits to this office were sort of...fraught with weirdness. The second time I went, the two front desk women tried to absolve themselves of any responsibility regarding the discrepancy between my EOB and the treatment I received. They told me that it must be the fault of the insurance company. Of course, as I mentioned, the insurance company told me that it absolutely was the dentist office's fault for not informing me that they do not accept my insurance policy. Additionally, I would like to note that the RDA who took me back had a very casual and unprofessional attitude. Lastly, I feel that it's important to note that my second visit (which was for a simple cleaning) took a total of an hour and a half when there was not a single other person in the waiting room. I have been here three times and have had amazing experiences each time. I really appreciate how kind and friendly all the staff is. Dr. Sybo is amazing, she really takes the time to make sure things are done right, values my health but also ensures I'm happy with how my smile looks. I'm someone who's a little anxious about going to dentists (sharp things in my mouth?!) but Dr. Sybo always makes me feel comfortable and she's just a pleasure to be around! I was scheduled to see one doctor by my insurance company and then was assigned to another doctor. I indicated that all I wanted was a simple, routine cleaning; however, they insisted on a full mouth exam, which included x-rays. Consequently, a woman, with a difficult to understand foreign accent, entered. I assumed her to be the dentist and she told me I needed a deep cleaning of three quadrants of my mouth with antibacterial treatments, fluoride treatments and hygiene instructions, for a cost of $870.00. I told her that I had a deep cleaning in four months ago. (That cost was $160.00.) They did offer to omit the antibacterial and fluoride treatments; however, because they would not provide a simple cleaning, I left, paying only $45.00 for a mouth exam. I gave an extra star because the Dental Assistant was very helpful. read more

I went in fully expecting to love this place. It's brand new and the people are friendly at first. They tried to force a treatment on me that was expensive and I wasn't convinced I even needed. I told the dentist I would have to think about it. The dentist literally -grabbed my purse off the wall- and started marching me out the door! I tried to stop her, telling her I still wanted to have done what I came in there for but she did not care. She was incredibly cold and rude. The whole experience was a complete waste of time. UPDATE: I went to ANOTHER dentist and told them I may need the periodontist treatment that Sylvan Park Smiles told me I absolutely needed. They performed the periodontal test on me and said I, in fact, did NOT need the $1,200 treatment. Moral of the Story: Sylvan Park Smiles PUSHES treatments on their patients that they DO NOT NEED because they want you to spend more money. I usually don't write reviews like this but really I feel the need to warn others. Like others have said, I am a young, 30's woman with no major past dental issues that came in for a routine teeth cleaning. The cleaning they provided was very minimal and not thorough at all; on top of that they told me there was a 99% chance I needed a root canal which shocked and upset me. They didn't even look at my teeth; just based it off an x-ray. I had no pain in my tooth either. They tried to book me immediately for a follow up crown fitting. I ended up seeing an highly recommended endodontist for a second opinion who told me I likely just needed a filling. I then went to another dentist for the filling who said my cavity was actually super minor and surface level. He filled it and another small spot in only 10 mins! I really can't believe these dentists are trying to scam innocent people into getting painful, costly root canals. This is an absolutely awful practice. read more

I had an appointment today for oral surgery and apparently it was canceled and nobody contacted me. I missed a day of work. I only work 3 days a week, 12 hours a day so I've missed 1/3 of my paycheck because these people couldn't pick up a phone and let me know my appt was canceled!! Not only that, I've already paid them $1400 dollars for services I've not received!! I've been bamboozled by these people!! What do I do to get my money back?!! Will I have to file a small claims?! My husband and I each went once on different days and will not be back. They tried to sell us products and surgical services that were not needed. Medicated mouthwashes, night guards, implants. Interesting, once we learned the oral surgeon who would perform the procedures is the husband of the dentist. We had 2 different people "clean our teeth" and they both did a horrible job. They missed large areas of plaque and flung toothpaste all over our faces. We had an insurance change so had to find a new dentist but after our experience here we will keep looking elsewhere, that's for sure. read more

I made an appointment with them back in February to get a tooth checked that was in pain. First time I had ever been there. I was told I had signs of periodontitis and needed a deep cleaning that cost over $1,000. I was shocked. I've never had so much as a cavity. I was also told I might possibly need a root canal and a crown on my tooth, as apparently the X-ray showed something wrong with the root. The dentist said if it didn't clear up in a week, I should schedule an appointment with their Endodontist. They urged me to get the deep clean that same day, but I agreed to only get the basic clean and I would consider the deep clean for another time. I went to another dentist a couple days later to get a second opinion and he told me my teeth and gums were perfectly healthy and couldn't believe they said I needed a deep clean. He said I showed no signs of periodontal disease. He repeatedly told me not to get the root canal, as there was absolutely no indication there was anything wrong with my tooth. Turns out it was a bad sinus infection that was causing me pain and it cleared up when I treated it. I nearly spent thousands of dollars at Sylvan Park Smiles on treatments I didn't even need. read more

Easily the worst experience I've had at the dentist in my 28 years of living. My appointment started out by the front desk yelling at me across the room, asking why I hadn't responded to their call or email - when I hadn't received any. After I put my name in, I sat down in the waiting room and a lady yells across the room "So do you not know how to answer your phone? Do you not know how to call someone back?" I was so taken back by this. They nearly brought me to tears and embarrassed me the way they were speaking to me. Not to mention, this was my second appointment because the first one I scheduled they called and had to cancel it and couldn't book me until a month later. Which was frustrating because I am pregnant and I needed to get my cleaning. After my cleaning, the dentist recommended that I needed not one but FOUR root canals asap. With my insurance the totally they quoted was over $6,000. I received a second option today from Roach Family Dentistry (they were my previous dentistry and I LOVED THEM, but changed because my husband and I moved across town and it was convenient) I went back to them today because something felt off, again I am 25 weeks pregnant and I want to stay on top of my health. The dentist from Roach was taken back that they had even suggested a root canal - they said it made 0 sense. They had all my X-rays + notes from Sylvan Park Smiles- They were still so confused why they ever suggested that treatment. They didn't even suggest that I had a cavity or would even need a fill in the near future. My husband and I will never be going back. read more

Everyone in this office is amazing. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted with a smile. Before they do a in-depth assessment you get to personally sit down with doctor Sybo and she listens to all your needs and concerns. She genuinely cared about everything I said and took it into consideration with my treatment. The whole process was a breeze and they reassured multiple times that I was comfortable. I couldn't be happier with my results. I can't recommend this place enough. Doctor Sybo is the best dentist in Nashville! I will definitely be back! read more
