Super cute cafe! The food and pastries are amazing and I decided to try their matcha today since they use nami matcha now. Overall I rate the matcha a 7/10. I think what will make it better is using a different oat milk that isn't so strong oat flavored. I couldn't really taste the matcha flavor since the oat milk was pretty overpowering. The cold foam on top was so good though, as I think they used natural vanilla bean to flavor it.

I visited syndicate on a Saturday morning after finding it on a yelp search and being intrigued by their mood ring drink. I was so happy with the drink they made and with the service that I came back the very next day! There were different staff and they were just as helpful and friendly. They also make their pastries in house. I enjoyed a vegan muffin on my first visit. They had one vegan option, but I was happy with that. The next day I enjoyed a burrito. The space is small and is jam packed on a weekend morning.

Came here after a run and ordered their hot coffee latte, chai latte, quesadilla, and Da Vinny Sandwich. All food and drinks were mediocre. The chai latte was nicely spiced compared to most other cafes. The quesadilla was a little disappointing, and if I could describe the filling other than the cheese, it has like 5 pieces of beans and chicken. The sandwich was also underwhelming. I would recommend this place if you want a quick bite, which I think is a hot spot for many cyclists, but don't have high expectations for the food or drinks.

After months and months of wanting to try Syndicate, I finally got to stop by yesterday morning. It's a fairly busy place and there's not a whole lot of indoor seating since it's a smaller place, so be mindful of that. Lots of street parking available but it may be hard to find a spot- downtown Sierra Madre seems like a pretty popular area. The baristas are friendly, I do wish they would've asked me if I wanted my items to stay as I didn't realize that was an option until afterwards; I would've preferred to be less wasteful if I could! Not a big issue though. They also need to update their menus as both of the lattes I asked about weren't available anymore. I ended up ordering a hot white chocolate peppermint latte and a caramel apple morning bun. The latte was really smooth and not too sweet, which I love because I don't like overly sweet coffee & when it comes to peppermint mochas, I find that I'm often turning away because the peppermint is too in my face. This latte was perfectly balanced flavor-wise and I really enjoyed it. I love the little detail of the pink lids as well. The morning bun was to die for. I don't have many notes on that one except that I think everyone should try it at least once. I really loved it. I stayed for an hour or so to read and the little chairs they have inside are super comfortable (I have a back disability, so that's incredibly important for me) and they have little side tables for your coffee or bag, etc. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by Syndicate and I will be planning my next stop soon.

This coffee shop has been on my radar for a while now after reading my fellow Yelp Elite "peeps" reviews. So, when I had the opportunity to meet a friend for coffee last minute, I picked this place. It was packed on a Saturday morning but the line moved pretty quickly. The girl who assisted me was very nice and helpful. I ordered a Nitro Cold Brew with Blackberry flavoring or so I thought. Never again...it was puree with no sweetness. It added a tart flavor to my coffee which anyone who knows me, knows it's not a good fit for my morning coffee...LOL! I also ordered a Ham & Cheese Croissant which was delicious. My friend ordered the poppy seed cake which was also good. Yes, we shared:) We were able to grab a table out front and sat next to a lovely couple. It was a really nice hang. My only gripe and it's kind of a BIG ONE...NO RESTROOM FOR CUSTOMERS!!! WTH! You serve food and drink..is that not illegal in CA? Just Saying... *2 Hour Free Street Parking

Syndicate Pastries are delicious and savory treats. Picked up a Ham & Cheese Croissant and a Morning Bun. Celebrating turning 21 years old. All jokes aside, the cashier was super friendly, but the crowds are no joke. The parent and their children keep this local hometown coffee shop lively and entertaining. From children running amok, it's never a dull moment at the Syndicate!

I give this place 5 stars for food and 1 star for slow drip coffe and chai latte and zero stars for tidiness. Here's why... Had the JB Burrito (picture and description in photos). It was delicious and a great size! All the flavors were distinguishable yet married perfectly together. And the GREEN salsa is a must! Didn't see it on the menu, but they had it on a promo flyer near the register. Also tried the vanilla cranberry pancakes with a side of bacon. The pancakes were light, fluffy, and perfectly cooked. Accompanied by whipped butter and a not-too-sweet cranberry syrup. Whatever they are doing in the kitchen is magic. I'll be back to try other things from the menu as well as something from their pastry selection. The chocolate cherry hand pie is lingering in my mind! Pictures attached. Sadly, the coffee and chai latte were a miss. The medium size coffee was teeny tiny. So much so I thought they made a mistake. It didn't have a kick and fell short. Too weak for what I was expecting. The chai latte was flat. There was no froth, it was way too spicy, and although I asked for extra honey, it was still not enjoyable. Too bad because the food was so great. The location is perfect and if they can get their drinks a notch up, it will be Sierra Madre's gem! There's a small indoor seating area both with small couch/table set up and single seat bench seating lining the window and wall. If you can grab one of the two high top tables you may have to wipe things down. There are small tables outside too if you don't mind foot traffic and the people watching is good. It may have been the Sunday rush (I was there around 12:30) but I was disappointed with the lack of someone doing quick wipe downs of the least the table tops. Both my table, the window bar seating, and floors were quite untidy. Most disappointing was that a manager or owner was sitting in the 2nd heigh top table chatting with friends. We realized he was management because the barista informed him that they were out of ice. At this point he was surprised that barista was in (maybe it was her day off?) He quickly said goodbye to his friends and walked to the back. This disappointed me for two reasons. 1. He could have been wiping tables and sweeping the floors instead of customers having to clean their own tables. And refilling the utensils as there weren't any forks. 2. He and his friends sat at the table for a while. We arrived and I saw them already there. And they were there until we were almost done eating--which was about 40 mins. There were other customers looking for a place to sit and totally could have used that table. I'm pulling for this spot. I hope they can tidy up these details and will be around for a while.

it's a cute cafe and has a nice ambiance. I came since I saw they were serving Nami matcha, but i was very disappointed when my drink just tasted like milk :( i ordered a regular matcha latte with the matcha foam and it doesn't look anything like the instagram post either :(( i would come by again to try their food and bakery items since they seem pretty popular, but the matcha is definitely a miss!

Every pastry I tried here was absolutely delicious. It's a small shop but very popular, with lots of great breakfast options. Their signature items are especially good. The staff are friendly, and the place is simple and clean, definitely worth a visit!

I saw on their IG that they were serving Nami matcha and was excited to try! DO NOT GET!!!!!!! The matcha is premixed in a squeeze bottle and I could tell the drink was gonna be ass by the color when the barista brought it out, basically a cup of milk and no matcha taste at all!!!!!!

I first discovered this incredible small, woman-owned bakery years ago, and their croissants have been on my mind ever since. Although I no longer live in the area, a serious craving today was enough to convince me to make the drive back to Sierra Madre. The line was a testament to how popular and delicious this place still is, but it was absolutely worth the wait. I ordered an almond croissant and a warmed ham and cheese croissant. Let me just say, this bakery makes the best croissants, hands down. The flakiness is unlike any other I've had--each bite is a perfect, buttery crunch. The bakery itself is quaint and charming, with a few seats inside and more seating outside where you can enjoy their wonderful croissants, pastries, and coffee. If you're looking for the perfect pastry, you won't be disappointed by this place!

Vibes! This spot hits everything that I wanted it to. The music, the food, the coffees, the pastries. The baristas were lovely and everyone there seems to be enjoying working and giving together. I couldn't believe what a pleasant experience this was. The betta living his best life among aquatic plants, the numerous plants placed about the cafe. This place is playing killer music and serving up killer coffee too. I'll definitely be back!

Okkkk I love their coffeee and pastries! Got the Jason Lee and Coconut Head and both drinks were great. We also got their morning bun, almond pastry, and The Bodega. Yes it's a lil pricey but worth it. They typically have a wait but everyone there is super nice and the man at the front the orders was warm and friendly. It's also in downtown Sierra Madre so there's a ton of food and shops nearby

Syndicate coffee is a lovely coffee shop and bakery. The atmosphere is bright and airy, and the coffee leans fruity and citrusy. The staff is very friendly and kind, and the pastries look delicious. Cons: *If you want a healthier snack or treat (something with more protein or fiber rather than sugar and carbs) you won't find it here. * NO bathroom :( I would love to have more coffee appointments, but unfortunately if you need to use the restroom, you have to leave all together. read more

I ordered the Olso and they were out of baguels so they served my sandwich on sourdough but I only received half a sandwich, for $14 I at least expect a full sandwich. At least my half sandwich was tasty. Also no restrooms or location to wash hands. read more

Butter instead of cream cheese. Bagley not toasted when they asked if I wanted it toasted. Plain Jane is pretty good. Noir is ok. The dirty chai I would avoid. Boyfriend loves the CLASSIC on a plain bagel get gets chipotle sauce on the side. read more

We are always looking for a restaurant that has vegan options, or food that can be modified to vegan. Syndicate makes a great avocado toast! (If you skip the egg, it can be vegan.) Yesterday, their soup of the day was a delicious carrot/tumeric. The coffee is always tasty, and there are a bunch of yummy-looking bakery treats in the display. Very good place for a light eat and coffee. read more

I honestly think the people make this place an amazing establishment ! You can really tell the Baristas are actual Baristas and even more like Artists! I personally have only gone 3 times and each time feels like an even better experience! The service is organically friendly and never hectic nor stressful or rushed! Stopped by last week and tried the nitro coconut tea with a splash of vanilla. I've never had tea on tap before but the flavor was really different and refreshing! Next time i would probably try a different sweetener or no sweetener instead of vanilla. The service was also great - the barista told me about the parking lot in the back in case I wanted to move my car while I worked outside. Very cute location in Sierra Madre. I didn't stay as long as I would have liked because they didn't have a restroom available for customers. I'd like to go back to try the coffee and baked goods in the future! read more

This place is awesome! We went during their soft opening and they were so nice! The selection is small, but the prices are fairly decent. The coffee is not as strong as other places, but it's very smooth! I gave them five stars still because I feel like that's a personal preference. They make ALL their syrups in house so there are no nasty chemicals going into your coffee. They also have a variety of milks! AND they have a freaking pastry chef making all sorts of fancy pastries! We didn't get any pastries cause we had breakfast plans, but we WILL be back for them. Also! The barista did latte art on the to-go latte which was so nice of her read more

The pastry chef is out of this world. This is one of the only places that I've been to outside of France, where the croissants have that buttery aroma that just makes you take a deep breath. Perfectly flaky, extremely buttery soft (yellowish interior), and dark chocolate that is the cherry on top. In addition to their superb baked goods, the craft beverages are delightful. They house make the lavender and vanilla syrups! I ordered an iced lavender latté and it was one of the best I've had. The syrup doesn't come off as too sweet and it has an abundant lavender flavor - well balanced. Great job! read more

We moved to Pasadena after spending 6 years in Echo Park / silver lake area where we were spoiled with unlimited variety of delicious food. One of the thing we missed the most was our morning coffee and fresh pastries at small local coffee shops. As a French woman, if there's one thing I like almost as much as our free healthcare system, is a good buttery and flaky pain au chocolat and a string coffee to start the day. And man did I found one at Syndicate! Absolutely incredible fresh pastry and the coffee is delicious too. To top it all of, the entire staff is so welcoming and nice. We love this place. Literally the best coffee beans in town. The Unity brand coffee is an established Brooklyn roaster with an LA Roasting facility. Great pastries, too. Only complaint is the wait time at the register. The bags of beans never seem to be in the system and to find the correct price often takes several minutes. We come here when we know we're not In a hurry. Also, larger coffee sizes please!! read more

I was in the area and looking for coffee. Found this place and was intrigued by their "mood ring" signature drink. The staff at the counter was really nice to explain what it's about and asked my questions! I've only gone here twice and have both ordered the Mood ring drink! Both times have been sooo good! If you're feeling adventurous one day, this is definitely something you should try. They were also happy to substitute the milk too! Definitely coming back! read more

I'll admit, I came in here just after Mercury went retrograde, so maybe that's what was up (desperately searching for an excuse, here), but man, this was not a fun experience. There were 9 people behind the counter (I counted while we were waiting), yet we got our drink orders after the people who had been in line behind us (and it's not like we had complicated drinks) and the burrito we ordered took FOREVER. The drink-making system didn't seem the most efficient (one guy just steaming milk, another guy just pulling shots - my husband and I both used to be coffeeshop baristas, so there's experience points), and the general vibe from a majority of the people behind the counter was way too relaxed and jovial, considering there were multiple groups waiting for orders. I'm not saying don't have fun while you work, but if I know there's customers waiting, I'm not going to be standing around and laughing. Maybe it's my guilt complex. The drinks we got were decent and the breakfast burrito was tasty (and delicious green salsa!), so I desperately want to give this place another chance. Once I've tried again (maybe with delivery), I'll update my review. read more

I don't really want you to know my secret spot. But this is such a great place, I want them to be super successful! We drive 30 minutes each way to come here once (sometimes twice) a week to get our coffees which are wonderful. And pastries. Which are incredible. The chocolate croissant itself is one of the best I've had outside of Paris. They are working very hard to continually update their menu and food offerings, so each time you go in things will be a bit different. Ask for a "mood ring" and let the barista surprise you with a drink. Best iced espresso tonics I've ever had. read more

So lucky to have Syndicate in Sierra Madre - excellent coffee and house-made baked goods! While I was contemplating the goodies in the pastry case, Alex the owner offered a huge "sample" of a pulled pork croissant, which was super flaky and delicious. Also tried an almond apricot cookie, which was uniquely chewy and crispy and marzipan-y. Honey latte was very smooth, just the right sweetness, and didn't leave me with a caffeine headache. read more

My entire life as a wee little lad, I dreamed of the promised land to where there was the perfect combination of coffee and bagel, in which they would pair together like Pippen and Jordan. Y'all, I have dated around a lot, but never found the one, of holy matrimony, with bread and beans both being Disneyland in my mouth. Where is this place you may ask? Where is the place where the staff is joyful like Dolly Parton at the salon? Where is this place in which the service is quick and efficient like Dale Earnhardt's pit crew? Another hit in Sierra Madre. I had an Oatmilk latte- hello hipster- and it was rich and creamy. All of their baked goods are amazing especially the berry danish and an amazing bagel sans which. It's a little more expensive than Starbucks but a thousand times better. After all you get what you pay for. read more

Just a quick little review today, but we stopped in for the first time and got the kids hot chocolate. This is a quick review because we didn't try everything they have to offer, but my very fussy hot chocolate connoisseurs said without a doubt that was the best they ever had. The house-made ganache is the secret weapon, and the care and expertise of the barista made all the difference. We grabbed a couple pastries because we were admittedly in a hurry and they were very good but again, we didn't try enough to make a qualified review. But if you want artisanal coffee in an upbeat, cheerful setting with experts in their field making your drink, drop by Syndicate! And try the hot chocolate while winter is still here! read more

Regrettably over the last 10 or so years, it has been my perception that much of the specialty coffee industry has: 1) capitulated to the taste buds of the casual coffee drinker (or the masses) and have abandoned their desire to change hearts and minds with education about a new wave of coffee drinking experience; 2) are shops owned and operated by people who are non coffee professionals (you know who you are!) and lack pedigree & experience. I get it. It's tiring and frustrating trying to help customers understand that what they are drinking is not "weak" coffee just because they "can't taste coffee." The masses & self-proclaimed coffee enthusiasts want "strong/bold" coffee but they themselves don't even understand what that means! Youngsters want to drink their iced lattes all the while pretending to be grown ups and/or be part of some trendy shop. they take 100s of pictures of the same latte and finally post one to their intriguing Instagram story. Why? Because trendy, duh! Thank God for Sherry Gao and the undeniably talented team at Mandarin & Mandarin 2. THESE KIDS ARE BONAFIDE COFFEE PROFESSIONALS!!!! They have phenomenal coffee pedigree! If you are familiar with my senseless ramblings, or so-called "reviews", you will notice that this one lacks my customary per item ratings and elaboration. This is intentional. The baristas weren't accommodating about substitutions or offering to make a new drink. Each business has a right to run it the way they want but be warned that you kind of have to commit to trying something you may not like. This place gives an either you like our drinks or just don't come back type of vibe. They don't really seem to care about appeasing you. Do with that information what you will.

The person working offered a complimentary sea salt chocolate chip cookie that was delicious. Drinks were meh but the service was good. The interior is really cute with the various plants, merchandise, and seating areas great for photo ops. Another plus is that there's a private parking lot designated for customers but it's very small and easy to miss. Go out and support small businesses! When we received our beers we noticed that instead of looking clear the way the sample looked, the beers we received were pretty hazy and we deduced that we got the Hefenweizen instead. Although this minor snaffoo, we ended up liking the Hefenweizen allot. I usually am not a fan of Hefenweizens but this was very refreshing and not too heavy for me so we kept the beers and we sat outside enjoying the weather. I really loved the vibe of this bar and I wish I lived closer so that I could come here more often. Now that I know about this little gem, if I'm ever in the area I will definitely stop by again!

I love the pastries here, especially the fig cheese danish! The puff pastry that they use is really light and crispy, while the fresh fruit compliments it. I had the matcha latte here and I would recommend getting it with oat milk! There was a perfect amount of matcha in comparison to the milk. Although some of the matcha powder sat at the bottom, so try to mix it up after you receive it so the drink isn't as grainy ( a few sips). This is supposed to be expected with higher quality matcha, in comparison to Starbucks' matcha powder that is mostly sugar based. Also, side note, paper straws? Yes please! What I don't understand is what appears yo be a blatant disregard for ADA requirements.
