I dine semi-frequently at Colette, as I live nearby. I lately have been ordering the same favourite dishes each time. I was surprised to read here on Yelp that the original famed chef left for a few years and recently returned, because I did not notice any major changes in the quality of the dishes I usually order. The current manager was my waiter this time, and he said that staffing has been a challenge; he himself also worked here, left , and returned. Colette offers a somewhat non-traditional, somewhat elevated menu, not as varied as other Chinese places, although they do offer dim sum and lunch specials. Note the menu on the website is old and kind of obsolete; the newer menu, which is laminated and has photos, is more extensive. The dish I always order is their fabulous chayote minced pork. I've also ordered their live lobster when I have a hankering. They have the lobsters and crabs in tanks on view, priced per pound. They can prepare it in several ways; I always choose stir-fried with ginger and scallions and add noodles. They also have some specialty dishes like winter melon soup that you must order in advance. I ordered 3 other dishes, only one for the first time. That was honey-glazed beef cubes. Slices of beef covered in sliced almonds on a bed of asparagus with an orange sauce that was similar to orange marmalade. Tasty and unique. The other 2 dishes that I've had before were the golden yolk luffa and the goo-loo pork (aka sweet and sour pork). Luffa is a gourd (like a cucumber) that is edible when young, but turns into the fibrous sponges we bathe with when mature. It's slighty bitter, here stir-fried with salted egg yolk. The pork was pretty traditional, slightly elevated with the addition of strawberries. For me, a reliable neighbourhood spot for Chinese. I hope they can keep it together.

Colette is a stop I always make when I am in the area and recently hosted a birthday dinner. The dishes are inventive and tasty. Favorites include the beef vermicelli, sui mai, chayote, fried pumpkin, tofu and mushrooms. They have a nice large patio area and the service is welcoming.

Come for their lunch special! You wont be disappointed! Tons of options and free dish when you spend $48

Really solid Cantonese restaurant. The wok hei on the dishes was great, seafood tasted fresh, and the portions were generous. You can tell they focus more on flavor and consistency than trying to be trendy. Would definitely come back with family or friends.

The restaurant nearby my home is so cozy and tasty.

We had no idea about this restaurant, but some friends ordered take out for us all and we were so surprised! We have now ordered on our own and the food is delicious. My husband can't stop talking about the lamb chops! I don't like lamb, but it's nice to see him so happy. The smacked cucumber salad is outstanding!! Absolutely delicious and refreshing. Loved it. We also had the fried sticky rice (amazing) and I had the mapo tofu, which I love but don't often get since my husband doesn't love tofu but since he got lamb chops... We are thrilled to find this restaurant, and especially because it is fairly close. Lucky us!

Colette is a fantastic spot with great food, a lively atmosphere, and consistently enjoyable service. The dishes feel fresh, flavorful, and well-executed, with generous portions and strong presentation. Everything we tried had bold seasoning and a good balance of texture, especially the stir-fried dishes with crisp vegetables, tender meat, and rich sauce. The restaurant has a comfortable, energetic dining-room feel that works well for both casual meals and group dinners. Service was smooth and friendly, and the food came out at a good pace. 10/10 -- highly recommend for anyone looking for a flavorful Canton fusion meal in Pasadena.

We've been coming here for a long time to have lunch and just love the food!!!! They are super friendly to us, Every single dish is delicious to eat, and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend this place. The lunch specials are a fantastic deal.....you can bring your dog too, to sit out on the large patio. It's such a great find for food, amazing service and ambience.

Always the first choice when I don't know where to go. Everything is recommended. Easy parking with plenty indoor and patio seating, usually don't have to wait but reservation is recommended on holidays.

We ordered the crispy honey shrimp and crispy stuffed chicken among other dishes. I'm only reviewing these 2 dishes because these are one of the popular items they offer. Crispy Honey Shrimp - Lightly fried, sweet and somewhat sugary. This is delicious as they are jumbo size and split open easy to eat and get rid of the shells. They are somewhat sugary in my opinion, but still acceptable. Crispy Stuffed Chicken - Light crispy exterior, shrimp paste filling. I wasn't a big fan of the shrimp paste filling, but it was not bad. The light crisp skin was what balanced it out. I might try other dishes next time. The restaurants a little far out from where I live, but I can definitely consider if I'm in the area. Service was great, the place was about half filled, so no complaints there.

The environment is elegant and relaxing, and the service is attentive and friendly. The ladies there are all very kind, and the atmosphere feels just like eating at home. The food comes out very quickly, and most importantly -- everything is absolutely delicious

First time trying Colette since they changed ownership from years ago. If I could, I would've given them a 3.5 stars overall instead of 3. Let's start off with the service. We arrived at about 5:00pm and considering the dining room only had one other party, we thought the 3 servers behind the counter took quite some time to bring us our waters, or take our order. After ordering, the kitchen did have our food out in a relatively quick manner (probably because there were no other orders ahead of us in queue). The food presentation was decent, but none of the dishes that we ordered really had a "wow" factor to them. In fact; the broccoli was too heavily salted. The best dishes were the honey shrimp as well as the diced beef cubes, but once again, nothing to "write home about". Overall the restaurant is clean, and the outdoor patio looks aesthetically pleasing for photos. The one bathroom however is not kept very clean and had a stench to it. I don't think we will be returning, especially for the price point of the dishes.

Is dim sum only during lunch?

I ordered dim sum at night. They said they're doing it all day as a promo but I'm not sure until when.

Why are they closed? Does anyone know if they will be reopening?

The previous, breakfast place has closed, and the NEW Colette is a Cantonese Fusion restaurant with an excellent chef and top-notch ingredients. Well worth a try under the new management!

Do you have Sunday brunch? Brunch buffet?

Only brunch on the menu. No buffet. Hope this helps.

HI Karla, unfortnately we do not off the bottomless mimosas anymore. You can get a mimosa by the glass($8), or by the bottle($20). Hope this helps.

I'm not sure, but I doubt it. But have the Fried Chicken, you won't be disappointed.

    Are there any vegan options?

Yes! The cauliflower steak is vegan? come in and try it I loved it!

Perfect family dim sum experience for us…read more We took out my parents and in-laws for dim sum: my parents' very first time ever. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. They loved everything from the ambiance to the food to the overall experience. My husband and I want to come back to explore more of the menu because there's clearly so much more to try

The sweet and sour fish used to be lightly battered and nice and meaty. On my last visit, it was heavily battered and you could barely taste the fish. I came with a large group of 7 adults and 4 kids on a very busy night, with a crowd waiting outside the restaurant. Despite how packed it was, service moved steadily and dishes came out in a timely manner. Most of the food felt very homey -- the kind of comforting dishes that reminded me of meals my grandmother used to make. That first visit was pleasant enough that I decided to bring my dad back specifically to try their signature Vietnamese lobster dish. Unfortunately, the second visit turned out to be disappointing. We intentionally came for lunch to avoid the dinner rush and were seated within 5 minutes. The restaurant was only about 75% occupied. Drinks arrived quickly, and we ordered salt and pepper tiger shrimp, green beans, and the house special lobster with an extra order of e-mein noodles on the side. Our server briefly returned with a live lobster in a metal bowl, mumbled "4 pounds," and walked away. A few minutes later, the shrimp and green beans arrived along with rice. We ate, waited, and continued waiting. By the time we had completely finished the two dishes -- probably about 25 minutes later -- nobody had checked on us, updated us about the lobster dish, or even acknowledged the delay. We finally flagged down another staff member and asked for the check because at that point the lobster still had not arrived and we were ready to leave. We asked if the lobster could simply be removed from the bill, but were told it was already being prepared. Ironically, the lobster dish finally appeared moments later, the e-mein noodle followed a few minutes later. For what is marketed as their signature dish, the lobster itself was honestly not very memorable. The preparation with green onion and basil was interesting since it was our first time trying lobster this way, but neither the flavor nor the presentation justified the long wait (if that's what it was or just an oversight in the kitchen) or elevated expectations. What stood out more than the food was the lack of service and communication. Delays happen, especially at busy restaurants, but a quick check-in or update would have made a big difference. The restaurant also automatically adds a 12% service charge to the bill. While automatic gratuities are becoming more common, and in this case, I even added extra just to bring the tip up to 15%. With that expectation, there should also be a basic level of attentiveness and customer service. Overall, the food and service felt comparable to a typical Chinese comfort-food restaurant like Sam Woo, satisfying enough for a casual meal, but not particularly memorable considering the Michelin Guide recognition and pricing. Personally, the experience did not justify a return visit. I'd rather go to places like Lunasia or Kim Tar Seafood, where the overall experience feels more polished and consistent with the price point.

It's pretty good here and they have complimentary refills! They're known for their rice noodle rolls here and you can order them, along with their small dim sum menu, all day long. The wonton noodles here were just $13.98! They come with 5 large wontons and vegetables over wonton noodles. I always recommend adding chili oil. The steamed spareribs on steamed rice have some bones, just like the ones you find at dim sum. But there's a lot of meat in the steamed rice bowl for a single person. Free parking in rear parking lot. Entrance at the front on Garvey Ave. They have 2 entrances in front now. Left door for to-go orders and right door for dine-in.

The staff are great, communication wise, it was a good service. They don't hover around your table. They let you eat in peace then check back every now and then. We ordered several dishes and each and every one of them were tasty. We came before lunch hour so not sure how busy this place gets. Are we going back? Absolutely! This is on my list to go especially for a weekend out.

I'm now brokenhearted!!! :( We came back ready to reunite with that soy sauce chow mein.... simple, no nonsense, just noodles, bean sprouts, and onions doing exactly what they're supposed to do: minding their business and tasting amazing!! No extra veggies crashing the party and watering things down. As it should be!! And the siu mai? Solid, dependable, and absolutely did not disappoint!!! The kind of duo you start planning your next meal around... until the restaurant disappears on you. Now I'm just here, craving noodles and questioning how a place that serves delicious food would close down!!!!

I've been coming here regularly for both breakfast and lunch ever since they took over the old Red…read moreChina space, and it has quickly become one of my go-to spots. The food is consistently good, honestly better than a lot of nearby places that charge quite a bit more. What won me over right away, though, was the breakfast combo. Two dim sum items and a hot drink for just $14 is a genuinely good deal. A cold drink is only $1 more (typical HK practice), and you can also take your drink to go for another $1, which is a nice little convenience. I'm pretty particular about milk tea, so I don't say this lightly: their half coffee, half milk tea really hits the spot every time. It's balanced, and satisfying. Beyond the combo, they also serve all the comfort staples, porridge, fried chow mein, Chinese donuts, and my personal favorite, rice noodles with a variety of fillings. It delivers the same comforting flavors you want from a casual dim sum-style breakfast, but without the inflated prices, long waits, and hectic atmosphere that have become so common at more traditional dim sum spots. This place is a solid, dependable replacement for the usual dim sum experience. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the service is consistently warm and welcoming. The driveway can be a little tricky. It sits right next to the Taco Bell drive-through exit, separated only by a fire hydrant, so it's easy to miss or get confused when pulling in. But it's a small tradeoff for a spot that delivers this much value and consistency.
