I really wanted to love this place given the cute vibe and proximity to Library Park. However, I was left a little underwhelmed by the Matcha Latte for the price I paid. I ordered the matcha latte and substituted the dairy for almond milk and the agave for honey. I asked the barista if this was a recommended substitute for their non-dairy customers and she confirmed this would be ok. (Some places steer me towards oat milk for the creaminess, but I've found in all places but this one to trust the barista.) I ordered it hot, but received something lukewarm and very bland. I ordered the pistachio coffee today for the first time and the coffee was really good. I don't taste the pistachio other than the chunks as the topping. But the coffee itself is strong and yummy compared to other coffee shops that taste watered down. It's a hole in the wall with a door that opens. So no outside or inside area to sit in. The matcha lavender was a different story. The lavender flavor in the matcha was nonexistent. Also, for the price the size was really small. As the name denotes, this coffee shop is inside an old brick wall building with a small window on the side street facing east of Monrovia Public Library. It has no outdoor or indoor seats because it wasn't design to be a sit in coffee shop. Nevertheless, they offer a modest variety of coffee and tea which can be hot or cold. I visited this coffee shop today-Memorial Day- and had a great experience. It is beautiful. I ordered a 12oz Rose Latte which was a traditional latte with the addition of subtle sweet, floral notes. Its rose flavor was not strong or over powering. If you enjoy a traditional latte, this one is worth trying. Staff was cordial and professional. Service was spot on. Prices were fair and competitive. Small little cafe in downtown Monrovia! I think it used to be located on the side of the building but it moved inside the açaí place. The menu is small but I really liked the matcha latte! Pistachio latte- really good! They include little bits of pistachio inside the coffee. It has really strong pistachio taste so if you're not that big of a fan you might not like it. Sometimes it looks like there's only one person working. They'll be taking orders and making the coffee so the line will be really long. I've had to walk away from the wait times before. The 12oz coffee is also the standard and really small. You're better off getting a 16oz with the amount of ice they put on the iced drinks. The coffee is pricey but I can confidently say they're making really great coffee. Given the size to price ratio of the drinks and really long wait times, it's still 4 stars for me. Cute new coffee spot in great location in Old Town! Really nice iced pistachio latte, friendly service every time I've been, and decent prices. It's a sorta-hidden little walk up window with no indoor access or outdoor seating so come prepared - but it's right across from Library Park which has plenty of benches and seating opportunities - or just enjoy a walk around Old Town with your coffee! I've stopped by a few times and the staff have always been very welcoming and friendly. We've tried the iced pistachio latte as I mentioned, as well as the blueberry latte and lavender latte (both hot). The pistachio latte has been my fave - iced is a great version and it even has little pieces of pistachio nuts in it, which I loved. The blueberry latte was also really nice - creamy with a mild blueberry flavor - and both of these weren't too sweet which I appreciated. And while I enjoyed the blueberry, I think it would've been much better iced. The lavender latte was my least fave - their espresso has a lovely flavor depth in all the lattes - but the lavender was very bitter and I just couldn't drink much of it. I definitely wouldn't get this again. They offer pastries now too - sometimes muffins and sometimes other varieties. They're right behind Açaí Bar and easy to find. We tried the pistacchio and lavender latte! Both were really good and the girls working here were also so sweet and answered our questions. There was no line when we came and plenty of parking but we also came at 10am on a week day so I'm sure on weekends and early mornings there is more of a line. The building is really beautiful that it's in, but there will be no seating so it's definitely grab and go. The total came out to $8.82 ($6.50 Matcha + $1.50 Foam + Tax) which I thought was a bit on the steeper end for a 12oz matcha. For a grab-and-go coffee shop, I assumed that the service would be quicker. I ended up waiting 15 minutes for my drink on a Monday morning. I noticed that 3 people who ordered after me received their drinks before I did. Although the staff let me know that my drink was on the way, I still thought this was strange especially since someone after me had also ordered a matcha. Unfortunately, I don't know if I will be returning anytime soon due to the pricing and wait. I would much rather pay for matcha that had seating as well and be able to enjoy it while doing some work. The cafe is nice in concept but terrible in practice. For a coffee shop embedded in the wall it should be great for a quick on-the-go drink. But the wait is far too long for such concept. You're left with people waiting for their drink and to order that it'll block the sidewalk. You're also left suseptible to the weather during the long wait. In addition, due to the chaotic nature, the line is left haphazardly made. Therefore, there's uncertainty about who's waiting. While waiting, a person who seem like the owner and family immediately cut front and acknowledged none of the customers. Typically new owners have been really friendly and accommodating but this professionalism is lost on this owner(?). While long lines aren't a deterrent, the service wasn't worth the drink. I tried their house made blueberry latte and it was sweet but not too sweet. The coffee was strong, meaning I actually could taste it. It wasn't just "all milk" as some lattes end up being. If you don't look close enough you may miss this place. It's literally a doorway in a wall where someone takes your order. I found it cute and unique. This isn't a typical coffee spot, but literally a hole in the wall where you order through their open window and take the drinks to-go. Lots of street parking in downtown Monrovia. The photos of their lattes looked enticing, so I went with a blueberry latte ($5/50 for 12 oz) after reading about how they make their blueberry syrup in-house. I was pretty intrigued and expected to taste a light subtle blueberry flavor, but unfortunately this flavor combination was not for me. The blueberry was super sour - almost to the point of bitter and artificial tasting, so when drinking it with the coffee, the two flavors did not mesh well together. Was only able to drink a few sips, but it might have been my palate? Their pistachio latte was better tasting - had this hot, and I could taste a hint of pistachio with the latte. I love trying new coffee and tea places, but sometimes, they feel repetitive or watered down. At Hideout Coffee, it feels like they take the time to bring quality ingredients.
