I have been hitting gyms in the Burlington area for almost 40 years. I have seen most come and go. You can see the downward spiral, gym is dirty, in disrepair and customers are leaving. Soon the doors will be closing. The owner of Synergy is fanatical about keeping the gym clean, equipment in fully operational condition. When you walk in there is a stack of ready disinfectant spray bottles and clean towels. Everyone is expected to wipe down the equipment after use. The customers come in steady but never had I had a time where I couldn't get a workout in. The ages and fitness level varies greatly, so if your a beginner you should never feel intimidated. There are trainers and if you need help you can ask any of us at the gym and we will gladly help. Becca M wrote about a gym goer that was harassing her. She gave a bad review of the gym for that. Did she address it with the owner? You can't slam the gym for what a customer does without giving the owner a chance to address it. There's always going to be some who do not respect others. But my over a year experience at Synergy I have never seen this. Most likely a Female or Male that is in good shape and showing it, others are working out to try to be like them. Hey if you work hard and look good, show it off because it isn't gonna last forever and your in a place that understands what it takes to get there!! Top of the line equipment, clean where you could do floor exercises anywhere and not get up filty. A friendly atmosphere and the classic radio station you can hear but not so loud you can't carry on a conversion with another members. I strongly suggest you give it a try. read more

I moved to Burlington area early this year and I have been looking for a gym. I like to exercise regularly and I was looking for a gym with a mix of free weights and machines. I found Synergy Fitness via web search so I thought I would give it a try despite some concerns. First thing I noticed right off the bat is how small the gym is. They had construction going on at one side of the gym and when I asked the girl at the front desk, she told me the area used to be part of the gym but their next door business took it from them. Which means the gym is getting even smaller. I was like ok, not a big deal at the moment. Last straw that made me decide to leave this place for good and write this review is a harassment from one of the gym goers. I was in the free weights area doing some squats and I noticed a nasty looking creature staring at me and pointing the backside of his phone toward me, most likely filming. I felt very uncomfortable with the amount of staring so I left the room and went to another room to continue my workout with dumbbells. A few minutes later, the same creature came to the room, took off his shirt and started to pose in front of the mirror and kept staring at me. I was completely freaked out at this point so I ended my workout and left the place. The nasty creature is a roided short male covered with long sleeve tattoos on both arms with skull pictures and women, side stomach big skull tattoo, and a big "USAF" tattoo on his chest. If you belong to the USAF or have been at one point in your life, you should live up to the title. What a creepy old man. I have never experienced that kind of behavior at any other gym places I used to go to. I felt gross after this experience. I don't recommend this "gym" to any young woman. read more

I was visiting for a few days in Burlington and Synergy was nice enough to allow me to purchase a couple of day passes. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. This gym isn't huge but it is very well equipped. It also isn't overly busy at 6 in the morning, which is nice. They have squat racks, benches, barbells, dumbbells, resistance machines, plenty of cardio equipment, mats and other supplies for stretching and ab work. It also looked like they have a yoga and bicycling room. The equipment is very clean and orderly. The locker room was also clean. Overall, a great place! read more

I was very excited about joining, what looks like, a stellar fitness club. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of calling first. My greeting was, "Yah?" Okay...I'll stick with this another second. So I reply, "Hi, I'm calling as a potential new member and see on your website you are generous enough to offer a 1 week trial to new members." Silence. I check to see if I have the correct number, "This is Synergy Fitness in Williston, Yes?" "Yah...we...we don't really like offering that anymore. People just use us for a week and then don't join. I mean I could, but...you'd have to show me that you're seriously going to join." As much as I would like to demonstrate my commitment to a gym I've never been inside and some db I've never met...I think I'll pass. Lift just picked up a new member. read more

This is a very clean and well equipped gym. They're a bit more expensive than the Edge (38$ biweekly or 33$ with a 12 month contract ) , but it's much cleaner and friendlier. Men's and women's bathrooms have a small sauna and fluffy towels. Equipment is all new with standard machines , two rows of cardio (didn't look full) and a weight section. They do have a squat rack/platform and a set of bumper plates (not enough to max out a deadlift, but enough for most). I have attended one group fitness class so far and it was just okay - small group of ~6, but instructor was a bit confusing. They run classes all day. I'm on a gym hunt since I've moved here and this is one of the more solid gyms I have visited. It is also probably the cleanest. It is also the friendliest gym so far - the front desk seemed to know everyone and were very upbeat. They do have a week trial pass that was very useful (they did say that they were changing it) to try it out if you're unsure! read more

This review is 2 stars ONLY because of how expensive the gym is. Given the cost of a monthly membership, in order to get a good rating there are certain points of cleanliness and equipment function that need to be met consistently. Unfortunately even though this gym is a lot nicer than others in the area, it's also nearly 3x the cost for a monthly membership!! And as such, the locker rooms should always be very clean, and the equipment should be reliable and in good working order. If this gym cost the same as the Edge, it would be a dream. But due to the cost being 3x as much, the cleanliness and quality is lacking. Our couple's membership is coming up for renewal in a few months and we've been looking around at other less expensive places. I don't mind paying a lot when I get quality, but Synergy isn't as nice and clean as it was when we joined. Issue 1) the ladies locker room REALLY needs the shower curtains washed - they smell like musty urine and have been for several months. I've mentioned this to the counter staff, I've put a note in the suggestion box, and I've emailed the Suggestions field off the synergy website, but they smell worse and worse every day. Very much like an outhouse. And I know they haven't been washed because some other member uses a body scrub in the shower with glitter in it, and it's all over the curtains. Issue 2) the gym provides shampoo and conditioner and body wash in the showers which is cool. However in one shower the green one is labeled body wash, and the red is labeled shampoo, and in another shower it's the other way around. Obviously that's a minor issue, but it's been that way for months now, and if they're missing something as simple as that, what other big issues are being overlooked? Issue 3) there are clumps and strands of hair in the showers, on the walls, that have been in the same place for weeks. Clearly the showers are not being cleaned thoroughly enough. Issue 4) the pump for the conditioner in one of the showers has just been missing for weeks. How long does it take to replace a pump? Issue 5) some of the equipment shows worn handles, feels lopsided when you use it (unbalanced), doesn't start from the normal beginning menu, or in general isn't working as smoothly as you'd expect an expensive gym's equipment to feel. Again I've mentioned this to the staff, and put notes in the suggestion box, and submitted a Suggestion on the website, but as far as I can tell nothing has been fixed or addressed. read more

Synergy Fitness is a fabulous club. I have been coming here on and off for over 4 years. It is recently under new ownership and has to be the best run club in the state of Vermont. It is exceptionally clean, well run, great equipment, never overcrowded, very knowledgeable and committed professional trainers and overall a great place to work out. My dedicated trainer Kathy whom I see once a week has helped me in so many ways physically and spiritually. This place is a sanctuary for me to work out and feel very good thereafter. Thank you. I actually stumbled into this place by accident because I was having a meeting with folks from work in another part of the building and was blown away by the place so I did some snooping online and was impressed. I'm a young professional and fresh out of grad school at UVM -- the UVM gym is great for being so close to my apartment but I needed to grow up. So, I started to shop around. Planet Fitness is overcorwded and doesn't have nearly the type of quality equipment that I am looking for; The Edge is just dirty and doesn't have the right kind of atmosphere that I am looking for and while I heard good things about All-American Fitness -- I heard better things about Synergy. They offer a 5-day trial to check things out. I walked in and was greeted by one of the owners who gave me a personal tour and showed me the facility. I was blown away. Lots of natural light and a great view of the outside; very clean locker rooms with these amazing showers that I haven't seen before. What I also liked was that there are three separate areas of free weights. Low-weight, Mid-Weight and High-Weight. The owner, Yuri, explained to me that people really feel self-conscious about working out in front of others and that separate zones help alleviate that problem. The equipment was all state of the art, the air was clean and the floors and equipment were clean. I was offered some good incentives to join (I was UVM so I was offered 10% off on the spot) as well as some other great incentives. My workout was great. It was quiet and I was able to focus on my work out and had all the equipment I needed. The locker rooms are trendy and incredibly nice. Very eco-friendly, as well (Silver LEED certified). The bathrooms are 100% private and they even have a sauna! Wow. After finishing my workout and decompressing, I essentially decided this was the place for me. So I went over and signed up for 6-months (because I don't know if my professional career will keep me in Vermont for 14 months). They were more than accommodating and gave me 10% because of my UVM status and also 6 weeks off my overall purchase so I ended up paying less than at The Edge or Body Resolution or even if I wanted to stick around UVM. I was even given a few free sessions with a personal trainer that I selected. Their philosophies and bios are on the walls. I have my first session this week to help keep me focused on building some weight and getting stronger. Join this gym. I love it and it's only my third day. read more

Uh-mazing. I spent about a month checking out a bunch of different gyms, trying to figure out where I'd be working out for the next year. After my first day (of a 5 day free pass that they extended to 7 when I couldn't make it over the weekend), I knew this was the place. Coming from DC, I was used to standard gyms having TVs on every cardio machine: here in Vermont, Synergy is the only place I've found that had it. I'm busy and I like watching TV and working out, so the gym allows me to multitask, catching up on the news, my favorite shows or sports teams, and Synergy lets me do it. Beyond that, as previous reviewers have noted, it is gorgeously lit, sparkling clean, and popular without being overwhelmingly busy. No pool to speak of and the morning classes are too early for my taste (honestly, who are all these people who can be at spin class at 5:30 a.m.?), but otherwise, this place is perfect for me. The spotlessly clean locker rooms, including beautiful shower stalls that look like they belong in someone's home rather than a gym. I go here every weekday and it works for me. A couple issues: - Over 4 months they have yet to get my billing right. They have the correct details and they don't seem to be able to resolve the issue. So I need to do extra administrative work to get that sorted out, and I'd rather not. - For $660 a year, I'd expect it to have quite a bit more value than the competition. The relative value of this place over others doesn't add up to me (if I excluded the convenience factor as I work in the building... and convenience is worth quite a lot to my day.) For example, soap in the showers is nice, but when it runs out or is watered down frequently... it becomes difficult to rely on. - There seem to be some issues with theft in the locker rooms. For a place that requires you to check in, I'd think they could figure something out to control this a bit more. My biggest issue is probably the price-to-value relationship (at least give me smoothies that are cheaper than retail prices I can get elsewhere as a bonus for being a member or something.) read more

I moved to Burlington from Philadelphia after using the Philadelphia (and Boston) Sports Clubs. I looked around at most gyms in the area, but nothing compares to Synergy. Of all the gyms in Vermont, this one is the closest I could find to what I was used to. There are plenty of pieces of cardio equipment that almost all come with personal TV's. There is variety in the equipment - Stairwells, Treadmills, Ellipticals, Stationary Bikes, etc, and rarely a wait for cardio equipment. The weight equipment collection is extensive as well. There is some variety in the classes. They offer Boot Camps, Yoga, Spinning, etc. I love spinning and was disappointed that most classes at Synergy tend to focus more on simulating an outdoor ride instead of getting a solid workout. However, there are a few exceptions and the staff and instructors are open to feedback and do take suggestions and make changes. This club is owned by a husband and wife pair who are extremely friendly and always around to say hi and chat. Towel service, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all provided. I have consistently been disappointed by the holiday hours at this gym. Unlike many gyms I've been a member at in bigger cities, they frequently close early around holidays and often are closed on many holidays so if you like working out every day you'll have to figure out another way. read more

Synergy Fitness is one of the best gyms I've ever been to. I was in town for only a couple of days and was lucky enough to stumble upon this fitness center. It is clean, modern, and boasts all of the latest fitness equipment (each cardio machine has it's own personal TV with cable). There was no waiting or hassles, and the staff/other patrons were beyond friendly. Although I didn't get a chance to take part in them, there are also many types of fitness classes to enjoy like yoga and spinning. The dressing rooms were immaculate and the juice bar was delicious. By far my favorite gym in the area. The location is open, bright (huge skylight and windows) and very well ventilated. The equipment is top notch. The locker rooms are outstanding with private showers/changing rooms. Compared to the dank, dark dungeon that is Planet Fitness (seriously guys, your place has the humidity and smell of a fish tank), Synergy is an alpine meadow. Even their web site is amazing. What a great way to show off your facility. The only cons I see are the lack of some services offered by the larger gyms in the area (Fitness Edge) including their own pool, field house and some additional classes. If all you're looking for are free weights, top notch machines, cardio equipment and spinning, you've found the right place. Did I mention the smoothy bar? :-) read more

I am always let down by gyms around the country and sometimes, even with yelp reviews, you cannot tell how a gym will actually be until you get there. This place is great, the reviews are worth it and the juice bar was exactly what I needed mid-workout. I can't always travel with supplements so it was nice to see we could include them in a shake. I spent a solid month trying out gyms in the area and I'm so glad I joined Synergy Fitness. Synergy raises the bar for every other gym in the area. The facility is clean, inviting and the equipment is brand new. Synergy Fitness is a fantastic gym. It is owned and operated by Erik Shepard a local entrepreneur who has a passion for fitness. What makes this gym stand out is how modern all the equipment is. They have Nautilus, Cardio, Free Weights and Cables. They also have many classes to choose from including: Yoga, Spin, Strength and Aerobics. The gym itself is very clean with plenty of space to stretch and focus on your personal fitness goals. There is a Juice Bar and a comfortable lounge area where you can unwind after a hard work out. The locker rooms are very spacious and extremely clean. They also have a Sauna and individual showers in both Men and Women's locker rooms. I have been working out my entire adult life, have been to gyms all across the country and I can honestly say Synergy Fitness is one of the nicest facilities I have ever worked out in. If you are looking for a gym that is affordable, modern and locally owned you can't beat Synergy Fitness. read more

Expensive and the equipment is always down for repair. It will have signs saying when the equipment is expected to be repaired up long after that date has passed (with the machine still broken). The only plus is that there is literally nobody ever in there. The average age of the members has to be mid-50s so when I get there at 7pm the place is a ghost town. Think of this as a fancier and more expensive version of a senior citizen center meets Planet Fitness. read more

I moved to Burlington about 5 years ago. Coming from NY where there is LA Fitness, Synergy (not to be confused with this one), etc...I was expecting a place that was comparable. I spent about 4 years switching from gym to gym because they are all either too old, too small, have no classes or have no free weights. Ack...what a headache!! Well let me tell you - Synergy in Williston is AMAZING!!! The staff is super friendly. The place is spotless. They have everything and while I still wish they would offer more variation in their classes (it's a little too cycle heavy IMHO), this is the place to go for sure. read more

I joined this gym in January and enjoy being a member. There are good classes, the gym is clean and it is not crowded. I am not sure if I will continue my membership, however, because their weekend hours are not very good. I, like many gym-goers have a hard time getting to the gym during the week and count on being able to get there on the weekend. The gym is only open until 7 on weekend, as opposed to 10 on weekdays and too early for my (and my girlfriend's) schedule. If they could be open until 9, it would go a long way for us! read more

Nice place. Equipment is awesome. Very clean. Happy to be members there, but LOTS of body builder types though (but they are nice). Also, watch your bill, especially if you buy a lot of smooties and put on account.... it adds up, and not 100% sure we weren't being charged extra. Hard to tell when the bill comes in and it's $140 for the month. Seems impossible that many smoothies were purchased... It seems that they can't keep the front desk staffed. A huge turn around of staff. Owners are nice, but seem very fake, only talk to you when they want to. read more
