They have a good amount of seating available inside and great options to choose from. We did end up grabbing some made to order alcapurrias. All 3 tasted good but they needed hot sauce, lacking in flavor. I felt as the chicken one lacked the most flavor but was ok when hot sauce added & so did the pork one. I'll say that the ground beef alcapurria was my favorite out of the 3; although I still personally felt they all needed some hot sauce to add that kick missing. An alcapurria is a known Puerto Rican fritura/fried street food, growing up to even being an adult it's one of my favorite things if done right. We also had the bistec with rice, a side of beans, & a side of plantains. As well as the pernil with yellow rice. Both of these dishes lacked flavor, again needing hot sauce or missing something. The beans did have a good amount of flavor, which I enjoyed, & the plantains were slightly over fried. The visit itself was satisfying, I would return to give them another shot as well as hopefully try their carne guisada plate, which wasn't available at the time I went that day. I didn't give this business a 4 star rating simply because of the lack of flavor in mostly each item ordered. I would give it a solid 3.8 if I could.

Enjoyable meal and great selections. Clean eating area for a take out resturant vibe. Great helpful…read moreservice next time I'll read the menu I picked with my eyes. Lots of leftovers.

Today is an experiment. The restaurant is located on 775 Silver Lane in East Hartford, CT. I am…read moretrying the TooGoodToGo app. I am paying $6 for $17 worth of food. No tax or tip. I'll leave a couple bucks anyhow. Here's the catch. You pick it up around the last hour of closing and you can get a random box of food. This is unique! It helps restaurants get rid of food that would otherwise be thrown out at the end of the night or at least drive in more business towards the tail end of business hours. I've noticed only a few places have signed up in the nearby area. I've been here a few times. It's a nice place! Puerto Rican food is good! Please bring your own bag. Wish me luck! The wait was only a few minutes (like five or so). It's your typical take out container. This is beef stew on rice! That's a good portion size too! It is yummy!

WOW! Whether you're looking for Puerto Rican food or Dominican food, this place is the absolute…read morebest. Excellent and friendly service, and some of the best dishes of both types of cuisine I've had. I highly recommend their appetizer combination number two, which comes with papa rellena, bacalaito, y alcapurrias de yuca y de plátano. Tiré una foto de eso para que vean. Es una gran cantidad que se puede fácilmente compartir con 4 personas. The rice and beans are great, so is the churrasco, and the mofongo is moist, fresh, and delicious. What a meal! My only critique is that the music was a bit too loud, so we had to yell at each other to hear anything. Otherwise, 100% one of the best restaurants for Puerto Rican or Dominican food.

Absolutely divine…read more It has been so long since I've been able to have a crab cake that's gluten free, but at The Charles, their crab cakes are gluten free and lovely. But first, walking into The Charles is a step back into time yet still fresh and intentional. Plenty to look at all around the restaurant. The layout of even the bar is nice with seats by the windows and plenty of TVs playing the games without being disruptive. The building is gorgeous, well kept, and I can see how this restaurant gets packed quickly! But back to the gluten free crab cake. I would have loved some slightly larger chunks of crab, it was the crispy texture on the outside and soft inside that made my heart melt. The cakes sat lightly on an aioli and beside some greens, and each bit was delectable and delicious. Lovely appetizer. I also have the octopus basquaise, and I loved it. The potatoes needed just a smidge more seasoning and were sitting in oil, but I cared not, because it was an oil with Kalamata olives and tart, and how lovely it all was together. The octopus was nicely cooked and tender and not greasy. The potatoes were a lovely vessel, and the aioli was not too overpowering. A delicious fish overall. The service was great, friendly, and you can tell they love their regulars. Everyone was on the move at all times and overall very efficient and kind. Tons of gluten free dishes naturally. I loved coming to The Charles and look forward to coming back later this week to try their actual dishes. But if the entrees are even close to as good as the appetizers, I'm sure it will all be delicious!
