We were celebrating an engagement and so we were all very happy and in a great mood, when suddenly workers around us were cleaning up the neighboring tables, and even sweeping very close to us. We thought the place was possibly closing? (Even though it was only 2:15pm). I asked if they were closing and they said that they close the restaurant from 3-4 so their employees can go eat .... I'm not against giving them a break BUT, it really felt like they were kicking us out, we felt pressured to eat fast and wrap it up, not a good feeling, when you are in the zone of happiness. It was our first time there so, I would have appreciated if they would have informed us that the restaurant takes a little break in between and then we would have decided if we wanted to stay or go elsewhere. They did bring a little dessert and 2 mocktails for the newly engaged which was nice, I'll give them that. The waitress have all been very nice to us and our orders have always been accurate. Today we had eggs Benedict with spinach, and egg and cheese on an English muffin, the special strawberries and cream oatmeal and the special cannoli French toast. The servings aren't overwhelming huge which I like and the prices are decent. My eggs Benedict was great. The eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise tasted good. The English muffin was delicious as well. The oatmeal (although scorching hot so be careful lol) was really good. I love a good oatmeal, this was kinda like a dessert. I would go back just for the oatmeal some that's how much I liked it. It's just good, simple and priced right. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend!

When she purchased the small restaurant space in Manchester, it was already an existing restaurant called "The Smoking Cafe". Just before the purchase, the Connecticut General Assembly had passed a smoking for restaurants, which was going to go into effect soon. Many of the regular customers were smokers, but Devine soon won them over with her menu of "out of this world" food. The new business was dubbed "The Cosmic Omelet" and by 2005, a beautiful cosmic-themed mural had been painted on the walls of the restaurant. Although the menu also features lunch items, it is the breakfast dishes that keep people coming back. Many of the dishes are named after and designed by staff or long standing customers. If you spot the word "cosmic" anywhere in the menu, it is code for "made with cream cheese". My family and I had brunch at the Cosmic Omelet over St. Patrick's Day weekend. I was first introduced to the place by one of my best friends who grew up in Manchester, and I've been coming back ever since. This was the first visit for my two sons. There was a little bit of a wait for a table, but there's plenty to do to pass the time. If customers follow the "yellow brick road" painted on the floor, it will lead you to a small arcade as well as a funky art gallery space. We all had a fun time exploring until our table was ready. They had a lot of delicious St. Patrick's Day themed specials during our visit. I had the "Sheep Go To Heaven" (shepherd's pie omelet w/ ground beef, corn, mashed potatoes, cheddar & Guinness gravy), my wife had the "Fiesta Omelet" (sausage, onions, peppers, cheddar, side of salsa & sour cream), our sons shared the "Sweet Cream (Green) Pancakes", and we also ordered sides of "Hashbrowns" and "Corned Beef Hash" for the table. The place can get busy, especially during peak breakfast hours, which says a lot about how popular it still is with regulars. Once you are seated though, the service tends to move along quickly and the staff are friendly in that slightly quirky way that fits the personality of the place. Overall Cosmic Omelet is still one of the better breakfast spots in the area. Good food, lots of personality, and clearly a place that has built a strong following over the years. Hello, I'm writing because I had an uncomfortable experience at Maggie McFly's today that I feel is important to share, especially because this restaurant has been such a big part of my son's life. We've celebrated multiple birthday gatherings here, as well as his middle school graduation. It's genuinely his place. It is not my personal favorite, but we come because he insists Maggie McFly's has the best grilled cheese. Every visit, without fail, we order two grilled cheeses for him. Today, he ate the first one and it was perfectly fine. When he started on the second, he immediately said it tasted fishy. He kept trying to eat it because he didn't want to make a fuss, so about half of it was gone by the time we let our server know. She was very friendly and immediately said she would bring it to the manager. What happened next is what prompted me to reach out. The manager came over holding the half-eaten grilled cheese at an angle, almost like she was presenting it as evidence. The first thing she said was, "I'm confused, half of this is already eaten." My son explained again that it tasted fishy, and instead of empathy or even a simple "I'm sorry that happened," she repeated, "I'm still confused," as if she didn't believe him. There was no apology, no attempt to make the situation right, just an attitude that left both of us feeling uncomfortable. I even said, very clearly, that he was still hungry and I was happy to pay for another sandwich. I wasn't asking for anything free. I simply wanted my son to get something he could eat. Later, after the replacement sandwich came, she walked up behind us, saw that I had the Maggie McFly's website open on my phone, and said, "Did that come out better for you guys?" The tone suggested nothing had just happened, as if she hadn't been dismissive minutes earlier. The disconnect felt jarring. We got an $8 credit toward the bill at the end. The entire interaction felt dismissive and shaming, especially with the way she held the sandwich and questioned him. And the impact was immediate. My son walked out saying he never wants to come back, and that's really the most unfortunate part. This restaurant has been his favorite for years, the place he chooses for milestones and celebrations, and the one time he spoke up about something being wrong, he was made to feel small for it.

What a great surprise to find a good breakfast place so close to home…read more I'd been to the location where The Gathering is, at the intersection of Hartford Road & McKee Street, many years ago when it was another restaurant that served a very mediocre breakfast. I'd avoided it ever since. My husband tried The Gathering (which has been around since 2010 according to the owner) a few weeks ago, and told me we had to go back - the restaurant is clean & welcoming. And serves a good breakfast. Decent coffee. Very good service. All at a very reasonable cost. I had a cheese omelette, 3 eggs, lots of cheese, served with toast & very good potatoes. My husband had his new favorite - breakfast sandwich with 2 eggs on a Portuguese roll. Served with potatoes (he substituted corned beef hash for an up charge this time). I think the Hash is the usual canned, however, it was grilled nice & crispy. Note that there is a senior citizen discount of 10% on Wednesdays. Nice. The Gathering is only open for breakfast (open until 1:00). We will be back for sure!

The omelette reminds me of the once stellar breakfast space in the same plaza. Thin egg omelette a filled with toppings. Like an egg burrito but breakfast themed. The bread was fresh but not toasted enough, and the home fries were crispy but also seasoned well. It's a good breakfast, nothing too fancy but good and not too pricey.
