    Before Restoration
    Megan K.

I trusted Sy to restore a painting that was damaged from a ceiling collapse. Sy did an excellent job restoring the artwork and rendered the piece back in pristine condition. After searching tirelessly and bidding the work with almost a dozen different art restorers in the area, we chose Sysphere for two main reasons: 1.) He was the only restorer that took into consideration the chemistry of the fish tank water that caused the ceiling to collapse and damage the painting and 2.) He had the fairest price -- not the cheapest in the area, but certainly a lot more reasonable than other top competitors in the SF Bay Area. Although we hope that we will never have another accident happen again to our paintings in the future -- we certainly will not hesitate to reach out to Sy should we need help restoring another precious artwork.

I have been using Sergey's services for art restoration regularly for about 15-20 years. He has done work for me on canvas paintings, wood finishes, gold gesso, gold leaf, ceramics and probably some things I dont' even remember. I have never been disappointed. The breadth of his knowledge and skills is rarely found outside a museum's restoration department. Sergey was trained for this as a young man in the Soviet Union -- in a system that demanded excellence from those who'd be caring for its artistic treasures. (Art College Vizhnicya and Academy of Art Lvov, Ukraine) Since establishing his studio in San Francisco in 1992, Sergey has done conservation work for both the Oakland Museum and the Fine Arts Museum of San Fancisco, as well as for serious art/antique dealers and private collectors in the Bay Area. His prices are fair. He understands the value of what he is doing, and the value of each piece he works on. If your artwork is not worth the expense of restoration, you can trust that he will be honest with you about that. Over many years, Sergey Konstantinov has consistently delivered museum-quality art restoration services for my clients, and always at a fair price. That's worth 5 stars any day.

The paint has been chipping off a bit since then, and I finally bit the bullet to find someone to repair it. I found David here on Yelp. I liked that others wrote reviews on his repair work. He is a master at his craft, so don't expect it to be done in a hurry as quality work takes time. There were chips in the upper middle of the painting and tiny chips missing in quite a bit of other spots all over the entire piece. He was able to reduce a small fraction of the warping (on the left side) and he conditioned it and repaired the chips in the sky and other smaller paint chipped areas. I am very satisfied with the end result of the repair he made on this 1950's original oil painting of Laguna Beach, CA. Now I can proudly hang it on my wall! Thank you David, you're the best.

His little workshop looks like something out of a storybook - a flower-covered cottage where broken things go to be reborn. My most treasured possession, an ostrich egg my late father brought home from Africa when I was a kid, was shattered into what felt like a billion pieces during my recent move. I thought it was gone forever. I was a devastated wreck on the pavement in front of all my neighbors. But David, with the steady hands of an artist and the heart of a healer, pieced it back together so flawlessly, you'd never know it had been broken. If you have something priceless - whether it's an heirloom, a keepsake or a fragment of your past - don't give up on it. Bring it here. He doesn't fix objects; he brings them back to life and restores memories. I'll never be able to thank him enough.

For an art collector, it is a rare stroke of luck to have a world class art conservator and…read morerestorer living nearby. This gives me the opportunity to discuss the work in person, and avoid costly and risky shipping. Mikhail's credentials are top notch, his expertise spans Russian, European, American art. Just a few things Mikhail helped me restore to their original glory: - An early 19c Russian orthodox icon, which had significant losses of paint and an almost opaque darkened varnish layer that had to be removed. - A 17c painting, almost destroyed by time, countless restorations, termites and careless shipping. - A few 19c European paintings whose varnish got too dark with time. After the restoration, the painter's signature became legible, so many new details were uncovered! Every restored item became the centerpiece of my collection. The work has been performed with the utmost care and precision, every part of the existing artwork carefully preserved. Finally, I'd like to note that Mikhail was always open about the outcome of the work, giving his honest opinion on whether the hours and cost spent restoring an item were worth the effort.

For years, we had watched as thin white lines appeared in the painting, caused by the canvas stretcher bars behind the canvas. After procrastinating for years and believing that we had no option to repair this damage, we contacted several art restorers from yelp*. Mikhail made the best impression and we are so grateful for his skill. We live in Marin County; and Mikhail picked-up our painting from our home, restored it to better than new condition in his studio, delivered it back to us, re-framed and helped to re-hang it in our home. We could not be more satisfied. Worth the time and every penny. Thank you, Mikhail!

The bench was purchased by my mother, probably around 40 years ago, and was in her huge backyard and garden. She had 5 benches, and 5 kids, and this one was mine after she passed in 2011. Over the years I have had it refinished, but time took a toll on the structure of it. Replacing it with a new bench did not seem satisfying- how could I discard this precious (to me) piece of history that contained so many memories of my mother and her beautiful yard? Giorgio came out and took a look, (remember he is a fine antique restorer) and he said he would like to take on the project. The price was more than I thought it would be, (way more than a new bench), but he explained that he would have to replace all of the wood, all of the hardware and restabilize the bench. It would take approximately 1 month, taking it to his studio. I agreed. He took the bench away in pieces. The old bench was oak, and he we went over options for replacement and settled on heat treated ash, an enduring high-quality choice that would have a similar look to the original oak. Giorgio delivered the bench back to my San Francisco yard. I was so happy! The quality craftsmanship of Giorgio Di Costanzo filled that bench with the magic of my mother's memory to be enjoyed for years to come.
