I called Air Flow Pros to get a 4th opinion about the repair of my 30 year old heater which stopped working and had the good luck to speak with Rudy. After discussing my problem he asked me if I called PG &E. I said no, why should I do that. He said have them check out the furnace for carbon monoxide leaks, pilot light issues etc.and if they say that it needs repair Air Flow Pros will then come out to evaluate the situation. Three days later PG&E checked out my furnace checked the pilot light, replaced a thermocouple and reset a fuse hookup and the furnace was functional again. I was so impressed that Rudy suggested that I call PG&E first, that if I ever need to have my furnace repaired, I will call Rudy and Air Flow Pros. Called this company needing a company to service my mom's condo. The guy who answered said what kind of unit is it? As an average joe who does not work in the industry I simply asked, "How can I tell? I'm just an average joe." He replied, "Well, you're just going to have to take a picture and send it to us." So first of all, the unit is in the ceiling of my mom's condo and screwed in. I don't think I should have to mess with it by trying to open and take a picture. Second, from a customer experience perspective any business worth their salt in this day and age should be considering their audience and try to be helpful rather than make the customer do the work. Jose came out to look at an AC unit that has been leaking refrigerant over the past 2 seasons. The issue was diagnosed quickly and they were able to return just a couple days later to install a new refrigerant line. The new refrigerant line install looks very clean and inconspicuous against the side of the house (I couldn't even tell it was there without Jose sending me photos later on of where it was placed). The AC works like new, and the quote was very reasonable for the amount of work that was involved. Will definitely contact Air Flow Pros in the future for other jobs. Thanks Jose! read more

I received exceptional service from Air Flow Pros during what could have been a very dangerous situation. On the coldest night of the winter, my carbon monoxide alarm went off. Later that evening, PG&E confirmed that our furnace had failed and was releasing carbon monoxide into our home. The next morning, I began calling HVAC contractors. None of the nine companies I contacted could help for at least a week. Fortunately, a friend from my daughter's school referred me to Jose. It's quite challenging to find HVAC people in the Bay Area/Peninsula who are familiar with ERV installation, given it is a relatively niche HVAC need (I looked for multiple months and called many companies before finding Air Flow Pros). I've been impressed with them. They were effective, responsive, and have installed an ERV system that appears to work quite well (reducing indoor CO2 from 1000-1500 ppm to approx. 600 ppm). I manage two rental units. Preparing one for a new tenant, and we had a water pipe fail (old, corroded) ... replaced. So then I had the unit carpets cleaned ... creating more moisture in the apartment. Then the furnace wouldn't work ... to dry things out! I needed service asap on the last business day before Christmas. Called around, tried Air Flow Pros HVAC. They put me in touch with technician Rudy Ortega for a same day service ... he tried to help me diagnose and trouble shoot the problem over the phone during and between his other calls. I sent him pictures ... he made time and came out. It turns out that high efficiency furnaces create a lot of water .... condensation. That requires a water pump to get rid of that water ... my water pump had failed, so the furnace wouldn't run. Rudy removed and replaced the water pump and reservoir promptly ... done. Most of my reviews are short, but these guys deserve a more thorough review given what a great job they just did for us installing a new HVAC system (new furnace plus AC heat pump). The skinny: Hire without reservation. Jose was excellent at diagnosing what we needed and very patient explaining the options and the process. The work was terrific: on time, beautifully done, everything cleaned up after. The fat: We had been wanting to install an AC solution for a few years now, and after finally getting quotes from six different places, which all had different solutions, settled on Air Flow Pros because Jose was excellent at explaining why his solution made the most sense. I must have called him three separate times and had significant conversations with him to make sure I understood what he was proposing. We had an old furnace in my attic that provided central heat, but it was too large for our apartment, making it far less efficient. The duct work was also poorly done. (Confirmed by the other contractors coming to bid.) Jose suggested the most complete solution of adding ducts in the ceiling and upgrading my furnace to a new smaller Trane unit that would not only be more efficient, but is also much quieter. For the AC, he installed a Trane heat pump, rather than just an AC compressor (what is known as a hybrid system); should our building move to solar, it would be very easy for us to transition. The quote wasn't the cheapest - though certainly competitive - and for what they were doing, it was by far the greatest value. (Other contractors would have left the old furnace, or minimized the duct work.) He quoted a week to finish the work, and that is how long it took. The team that did the work (Claudio and Manny) were terrific. Thoughtful and fastidious at cleaning up at the end of the day. All the ductwork (through our ceiling) was carefully done with no need for additional painting. They use Trane, which is a high quality product. After all the nightmares I'd heard about my friends and their hvac experiences, I had been bracing for a stressful week. It was remarkably smooth. Would recommend them to anyone! read more

I tried and failed with 5 other HVAC installers, for a job to 1) remove our gas furnace, 2) install heat pump compressor and air handler, 3) pass DBI inspection with all permits (no unpermitted work) in a very tight space, and 4) manage TECH rebates, with challenging requirements. Everyone else was too busy, out of market on price, told me "we can't make it fit in the space", or was unreliable. Jose and his team did exactly what they said they were going to do, on time and on budget, handled some complexity with DBI and TECH. Live in a rental that had a heater installed by these guys. Makes a horrible constant ticking noise. A guest commented that it sounds like a woodpecker is in the unit. No big deal, sometimes things like this happen. What pissed me off more than anything was the way that the techs talked. They thought I didn't speak Spanish so they proceeded to call me an idiot for having the heating unit on before they came. First off, their boss Rudy, told me to leave the unit on so that it can "break in". So that's what I had done. They also told me that they'd let me know when they were on their way, which they did only 10 mins before they got here. So as soon as I got the text I flipped the switch off. Don't know what to say other than poor planning on their part? But I don't need that kind of disrespect in my own house. You guys need to be better about professionalism. And if you want to talk shit, at least have the common decency to do it after you leave. read more

I got quotes from FIVE different HVAC people to install a heat pump in our home. Most folks tried to sell me a heat pump that was much larger than necessary for our home -- a common pattern in the heat pump industry, from what I've researched. José was awesome in being super direct, quickly understanding what I wanted (including moving the return ducting, as part of a kitchen remodel I was doing), and being super straightforward. He was even willing to do most of the job, and then come back weeks later to finish, after I moved a wall around as part of the remodel. Not only all this, but Air Flow Pros was the most economical of all the bids I got. Their work is clean and professional -- the city inspector said as much. I can not recommend them highly enough.
