I have to say friends, I am very happy. Chinese takeout is so hit or miss for me. Down the street from my house I noticed there was a Chinese restaurant on Ford and Canton Center. My wife and I were just craving it and we took our chances once again. I tried to go the safe route with sweet and sour chicken, and the wife wanted chicken Kung Pao. We also shared spring rolls and crab rangoon, because no American Chinese dinner is complete without those. It's not hyperbole for me to say that everything was amazing. The batter on the chicken was still crispy despite being greasy, the rangoons and spring rolls were crunchy and the chicken Kung Pao was so tender and savory. On this rare occasion we actually ate everything in one sitting. We now have our official go to place. read more

Sze Chuan is incredibly close to my house, but I have passed it by the past 4 years mostly because the name is so generic and doesn't sound authentic. But with our regular favorite being closed for the holidays, and with good reviews, we decided to give it a try. It will now be my go-to for Chinese food in Canton! The crab rangoon and dumplings appetizers were great. I'd love more options for fillings in the dumplings, but they offer one filling and they do it REALLY well. I ordered Sweet & Sour Pork for my kids - they loved it. The sauce was incredibly sweet (and thick), which for a 6 and 4 year old is great. There was a little sampling of vegetables/fruit in the sauce, although I would have preferred a bit more to make the meal a tiny bit healthy. My dish was Shrimp Lo Mein, which I really liked. There was a good amount of shrimp, the noodles were cooked properly and very tasty, and it had just the right amount of sauce (I don't care for Lo Mein drenched in sauce). The meal was a bit on the expensive side, but I wouldn't say overpriced. We got a lot of food, had some leftovers, and everyone was full. I think the meal was in the $60 range for two adults and two children, with appetizer. I'm impressed they have Peking Duck on the menu, and their list of soups is impressive, so I'm excited to try them again sometime in the next few weeks. read more

It's been years since I've eaten their food but I'm glad to be back! I was complaining to my partner that no one around here makes almond chicken ding (just almond boneless chicken which, if that's what you're into, fine, but it doesn't do it for me.) Then I saw that it was on the Sze Chuan menu! I haven't had almond chicken ding in forever. I got so excited. Sze Chuan's almond chicken ding is a little saucier than I'm used to, but it goes extremely well with rice so I'm not complaining! You get juicy cubes of chicken tossed with diced veggies and topped with almonds. I got takeout and the almonds were right on top and still crunchy! I also grabbed an order of twice cooked pork. It's not the same as what I've had at Chinese restaurants that put more emphasis on traditional recipes, but the meat was tender and the sauce and veggies were so good! I'm excited to be eating these leftovers for the next few days. I wish I had more room in my stomach right now! read more

Went in just now and ordered similar meal- as a lunch special - substituting pancakes for moo shu pork for lettuce wrap ( used in an appetizer I had on Friday pm - no problem but added $2.00 to the bill - which I agreed to after she checked with the manager. Picked it up and left out the starter from the lunch special as well - giving them a chance to do the smart thing - they wished me a nice day and kept the $2.00 extra charge !? it's not about the 2.00 it's short sighted to do that to a new but apparently loyal customer. The food was excellent; hot, fresh, and delicious! I had the Hunan Chicken, medium hot. just the right amount of heat, but it let the flavor of the sauce come through. my wife had shrimp and pea pods in a white sauce. She said it was delicious,( have to take her word for it as I am allergic to shrimp). my mother in law had fish stir fry. It too was excellent. the dumplings were the best I've had in 30 years. Our wait was a wiry gentleman who was very cheerful, and the service was terrific! Q - Why order a Cantonese dish in a Szechuan restaurant? A - Because it's on the menu, and I haven't had it in a long time. I haven't been here in a long time mostly because it's on Ford Rd., and I avoid it like the plague. But I had a taste for Sweet & Sour Chicken and was on Ford and almost there. Easy decision. Sorry I did. As soon as I opened the container I could smell old cooking oil. The breading was thick and very dark brown in color. Definitely not golden. Most good Chinese restaurants have incredibly tender chicken by tenderizing it in baking soda. Not here. Chewy as taffy! Speaking of the chicken, the pieces were weirdly shaped like fusilli pasta. The sauce was pretty good but only had about 1/2 the vegetables/pineapple it should have for the volume. read more

Szechuan is one of Chinese restaurants we go for here in Canton MI. They have close to a hundred items to choose from on their menu, but will never go wrong on their 'House Specialties' We could say, that they are a little bit above average in pricing as most of their selections are in the high $$teens. Nevertheless, you get generous amount of serving and can therefore be shared with your date! Food: Having tried different Chinese restaurants, we would describe that Szechuan serves more of a refined Chinese dishes adopted to serve the locals in the city, or visiting from a far. I'm sure they have a Chinese menu for Chinese connoisseur and readers but we have not asked. Service: They served fast and you know your food was cooked since it is temperature hot. We would say, ranges from 10 to no more than 15 minutes from the time order is placed. Ambiance: Recently renovated, so it's looking new when dining in from the inside. Tables are well spaced, lighting is satisfactory. Noise level is average. Overall: A go-to place specially if you want a quick meal either to-go or dine in. read more

Husband and I have been coming here for years and the food is delicious, most be , it's about a 35 min drive from where we live!! During the Covid you could only get takeout orders, bad for us, certainly not gonna eat in our car by any means, darn!! Well they have been reopened for inside dining for about 4 mo. Restaurant has had some changes to their decor, very nice! You are always greeted walking in! Just love this place to dine at, food is just excellent. Large menu , soups, appetizers, they serve cocktails as well. Wait staff always so nice, they can answer all questions about menu too. We got the fried meat dumplings with soy sauce to start, awesome they are! Hub ordered Curry hot pot with chicken and I had Schezuan chicken with cashews, med hot. Both dinners were just delicious, took some home for lunch the next day. Prices very comparable to other places, worth every penny, great cooks turning out great entree's. A couple years ago the exact same order was over$10 less. Crab Rangoon, won-ton soup and an order of Kung Po scallops was $40 take out. Scallops are smaller (frozen grocery size), less wonton, more salt. Really disappointed. Is there any good Cantonese food left in Canton? I came to visit family from California and we picked up food for everyone and had no idea that this was my cousins favorite Chinese restaurant. We got food for about 20 or so people and they were able to get everything out very fast and it was very fresh. My dad is not the biggest fan of Chinese food and he had gone back for 3rds haha. This used to be my go-to place. Every couple of years, I will give this restaurant another chance because I hear so many folks saying how good it is, only to be disappointed again. The waitress was outstanding. Friendly, prompt, and proactive. The food, on the other hand, was unimpressive and disappointing. The spring roll was cold, tasteless, and greasy. They used to have excellent Hot and Sour soup. Today's soup was sweet. Oh, how I miss their hot and sour soup of yesterday. My main course was Ta-Chien. I don't know what they served me, but it was not Ta-Chien. The combo that I ordered came with fried rice. I had hoped to upgrade to the better-fried rice, but they didn't offer it. The fried rice that came with the combo was rice, soy sauce, and bean sprouts. I judge a Chinese restaurant on its ability to make very tasty fried rice. It is a shame that most Chinese restaurants fail as this restaurant did. My "lunch special" cost $13. Seriously ? I know prices today are insane, but give me a break. Will I be going back ? The culinary world has changed. The age of covid-19 is here. Any restaurant still open and serving food knows they can serve slop and get away with it because options are limited. With that said, I worked from home all day. Hungry. Tired. Weakened from staring at a computer all day. I called my usual spot, but they were closed. So I looked around, and there it was, a beacon of Chinese food that was open. I checked with Yelp, and they had raving reviews. So, I browsed the menu, but it didn't matter. They had me at "open." I called, placed my carryout order and received the worst food I have ever seen let alone eaten. Folks, this is not Chinese food. I'm Chinese and have literally been eating Chinese food my entire life and I have never seen anything this terrible. I actually left a plate of half eaten food at the table to go take pictures of this train wreck and go back to the prison of a desk that I've worked at all day to write this review because it meant so much to me that I warn the next person in a similar position as myself. The food is tasteless. Both fried dishes were mushy. The beef didn't taste like beef. The portions are ridiculously small for what you get. The food is expensive. $12-17 per dish. My usual spot gives you twice the food for a third less or more. If in the next few months the world succumbs to covid-19 and my only options for survival are eating pizza from the GW Zoo with expired Wal-Mart meat and this disaster of a restaurant, I'd eat the pizza. I'd eat the pizza if it was left out for a week and had covid all over it and smile eating it. If it's good enough for Joe Exotic, its good enough for me. I cannot stress how terrible the food was. This is a shame since the city in which they do business is named after a city in China. BTW, the bill was $63. For 3 dishes and 2 egg rolls. read more

I've never actually sat down in the restaurant but have gotten take-out from there multiple times. They take special care of packaging everything up and I've never had an issue of any missing items. Red and gold decor, white tablecloth settings - overall a pleasant dining environment Service: Extremely quick! Our waters were always full, food came out fairly quickly (the soup I ordered came out almost right away). We asked for chopsticks and tea, and both also came quickly Food: Started off with a hot and sour soup which I enjoyed (standard ingredients - pork, wood ear mushroom, bamboo, egg, tofu and topped with green onion). I remember liking the Lo Mein here so I ordered the Vegetable Lo Mein. The sauce used to stir fry was very tasty! Lots of veggies in the noodles - bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, green onion, baby corn, and mushrooms. It was a tad greasy but that's to be expected with any type of Lo Mein. I brought my mom and she ordered the Hunan Shrimp with medium spice. The heat and was on point! The shrimps were large and freshly sautéed in a zesty sauce along with broccoli, red peppers, and water chestnuts. The portions for both dishes were pretty decent for the quality, taste, and price! For a small town like Canton, it's nice to have a go to Chinese restaurant. I'm happy to see it's doing so after many years! We came here to continue celebrating my wife's birthday after trying a restaurant nearby earlier. The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get for each dish. We ordered the Vegetable Delight with tofu and the Vegetable Lo Mein. The overall experience was good, good atmosphere, had to ask for tea, but the waiter was helpful, food tasted okay, plus that they can omit MSG, gives me peace of mind. They have a vegetarian menu and were able to veganize our order which was reassuring, I think we'd need to come again to try other things on the menu to see all they have to offer. Like I said, portions were good, we really liked the generous amount of rice they offered with out meal! Bummed out that they didn't offer the Chiajang myun noodles as a vegan option so we bowed out from ordering that dish. However compared to other Chinese restaurants, I'm trying to see what this restaurant has that makes it distinctive compared to other Chinese restaurants...but I couldn't really find something that makes this place stand out. Sure it's a good dine in place for family celebrations, but I've been to other Chinese restaurants that can offer what Sze Chuan offers but better price and quantity-wise. Will I come back here again? I would like to give other dishes a try and decide from there. read more

I was dinning at Szechuan yesterday around 7pm. I always order my favorite dinner which is sesame chicken. I ordered it many times. Yesterday I was very disappointed because I got very little chicken! I would say 95 percent was chicken skin. It looked like the skin on the wings. Only 5percent meat. I couldn't eat much of it do I took it home. Today I run it under water to take the coating off so I could see for myself because the texture wasn't right and it's all skin! This has never happened to me before. The only thing I can think of is it was towards the end of the day and they ran out of chicken meat. I paid $17 for this dinner to only get chicken skin. I'm an older lady and cooked all my life and I do know what chicken skin looks like. I hope management sees this and does something about this if they want to keep longtime customers like myself. Outside of that the service was great and the place is nice and clean so I'll give it a one star rating this time. read more

Great go to Chinese place! Unlike a lot of Chinese restaurants, this place can do seating inside as well as solid takeout. The interior is actually really refined, clean, and looks like it was renovated recently. The staff was very nice, and I was amazed at how quickly the food arrived. I think I've taken longer to microwave some leftovers at home compared to how quickly the food came hot out of the kitchen. The food itself was tasty and fresh. I followed the recommendations and enjoyed the sesame chicken. It was sweet but not over the top. We also ordered the Mongolian Beef which was good but though perhaps not as tasty as the sesame chicken. I'll definitely come back here again. [Have mercy on my blood pressure!] 2) We ordered the Autumn Special --- a zucchini-based dish with choice of beef/chicken/shrimp in a brown sauce (we chose shrimp). The brown sauce had a slightly burned flavor to it and the dish itself was **extremely** bland --- no flavor of its own at all. I know we could have asked to "spice it up," but even sans spice/hotness the dish should be flavorful. Pending my next visit, I will consider this a one-off; an anomaly in what I have found to be a very good establishment. read more
