Returned yesterday with the GF on a cold, snowy MI day. We both ordered the Lunch Combo Chicken Subgum ($9.35). It comes with Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. I also ordered a small Egg Drop soup ($3.25?). Everything was HOT & FRESH from the sizzling wok. We dined inside to enjoy the SAVORY GOODNESS of everything before it got cold. Lots of TENDER chicken in the Subgum. Veggies were CRISP and properly cooked. Service was fast and courteous as always. $23.47 after tax was the total for this 2 person lunch. Terribly slow, ordered and waited 20 minutes before leaving to pick up. Still had to wait, the price was almost double what they advertised online. The taste this time reminded me of a childhood restaurant that is long gone. The lady at the counter is always nice and engaging! This is a no frills spot, only like 2 tables. We regularly order take out from here often. We have our go to menu items we have loved over the years (is it really almost 20 years?!). The Tamil staff is always so nice and accommodating of our different orders. You would be hard pressed to beat New China Moon for value, quantity of food and overall deliciousness. Overall, as it relates to taste, it's okay. The sauce for the General Tso Chicken is good, but the fried rice has no flavor. It's just rice that has been colored brown. As far as customer service, it depends on who serves you. The elderly woman is often rude. The younger women is always pleasant. My major complaint is the poor food safety practices. The elderly woman wears gloves, but she's handling EVERYTHING (cash, cards, food, phone) with the same gloves on. The point of wearing gloves when handling food is to keep us safe. I try to just do business with the younger woman and avoid ordering when I see that the younger woman isn't present. read more

I like their food. Their portion sizes are just right for me. Their prices are comparable to other places in the area, maybe a little cheaper. But what I love the most is that they offer lunch all day unlike most places that end lunch at 2 or 3. Sometimes I'm not really that hungry and want a lunch size portion at dinner. I love their Ban Ban Chicken. But be aware if you plan to use a debit or card there is a $10 minimum. So if you order lunch that is under $10 and you use a card they charge you $10 anyway. But I always pay in cash so to me it's not really a problem. But they do have great food. I very seldom give a restaurant 5 stars but because they offer lunch all day I'm giving them 5 stars. We've never been let down by China Moon. The food is good and the employees are friendly and helpful. Our to-go orders have always been correct and ready quickly. Tonight when we stopped by, there was a woman waiting at the counter for her food who started a conversation with me. She said she'd been driving around looking for good Chinese food, and saw this place. After coming in and asking for a sample (why didn't I ever think to try this when I was broke in college??), she decided to order her dinner. What a plan! We consistently get the Sesame Chicken, and it's enough for the two of us to share, as long as we get an extra egg roll. If we could figure out some way to get the extra egg roll as a replacement for the broccoli (which we never eat), life would be even better. read more

It's not bad, classic Chinese food. The chicken just had a weird texture to it, like chewy. The sauces are very rich and the general tso has a good flavor and kick. Would try again but maybe not a breaded chicken item. read more

We've been looking for a good Chinese takeout place, and New China Moon fits the bill. I'm only sad it took us so long to try it! General's Chicken is white meat, and the sauce had a decent kick. The shrimp in my Egg Foo Yung were large and plentiful, and the gravy needed no doctoring. Their fried rice reminds me of my hometown place (which makes me very happy). They offer lunch specials all day, so you can get a smaller combination for those smaller appetites (or for those who don't love breaded leftovers). The people working there are always friendly, and I loved when the female owner promised I'd love their food when I picked up our first takeout order. Strip mall parking. Closed Sunday. We have been getting carryout from here for years and have enjoyed everything we've ordered. What really sets them apart for me is their wonton soup. They add large pieces of broccoli and other veggies. The wontons are hearty. It's the best I've ever had anywhere. read more

Went in for the first time today. I got the Almond Chicken lunch special that includes chicken fried rice and an egg roll. I ordered an additional egg roll as well as a small egg drop soup. The almond chicken itself was not very good. The chicken was OK, but too soggy (the breading kept falling off). The gravy had a very odd taste to it that is already haunting me three hours later. Where is the Zantac? The rice was pretty flavorless and uninspired. I make better fried rice by far. The eggroll was OK, but a little scary to look at. I'm still not sure what it was stuffed with. It came with duck sauce, but I prefer plum sauce for mine, and I never did get that second egg roll I paid for! The soup was just OK. Used to be real good but the egg tools we got the other day were awful, like fried in old grease with bland filling. The fried shrimp also looked and tasted like old grease was used plus even after reheating in air fryer the next day, the shrimp batter was raw tasting inside, batter crumbling off in places. We ordered chicken chop suey and we were given beef chop. Kept it and they do not put even half as much beef in it as does Ten Yen. Tried this place again since Ten Yen was closed for vacation and it will be the last time we order from New China Moon. read more

This is a great place. I have been coming here regularly for years, the food is always good and the ladies working there are great. The flavor of the food is consistent, they don't skimp on the vegetables, and the sauces are not too runny they way they are in many other Chinese take out places. Sometimes the place gets pretty busy at lunchtime during the week so it is a good idea to call in your order if you do not have time to wait. Great made-to-order Chinese food at great prices. New China Moon never disappoints! They'll also do custom dishes if you ask. For example, the family was wanting to watch our intake of deep fried foods for awhile so we got the typical Sesame chicken u battered and wok fried instead of deep fried, then with the sauce added. Me and my fiancé found this place and it was very good. Went there a few of times, paid on our card at lunch. And then the last time he was there. The lady swiped his card for $6 something. And then proceeded to rip the pen out of his hand and start yelling at him about a $10 dollar minimum and the people behind him. It was embarrassing and there are no signs posted about the minimum and it was never a problem before. I was looking for a Chinese take-out place that was closer to home than the one I've been going to, unfortunately New China Moon isn't going to be it. The food was ok, but overall not that flavorful. One plus was the pork fried rice which contained both fried egg as well as green onions, something my childhood Chinese carry-out restaurant used but it seems most places skip these days. I have to admit that I was a little put off simply by the packaging. New China Moon uses Styrofoam containers for it's food and I'm a traditionalist. I prefer the old fashioned Chinese take-out boxes with the wire handles and... well I'm sure you know what I mean. It's back to Redford's Happy Garden for me. read more

We have loved New China Moon since they opened as having the most lovely flavors and gracious owners. Light crispy crab rangoon and yang chow fried rice are so yummy, General Chicken is compelling. We love that their sauces are so flavorful, not at all the nondescript goo some places smother food in. And dumplings :-) read more

I've been eating here since they opened and have had very good luck with my choices. I really like the General's Chicken and order it " stir-fry style " without breading. Most of my co-workers always join in with me when I make the lunch run for carryout. The service has been quick and friendly every time we have used New China Moon. Hard to find decent Chinese food in Livonia. We moved from the Royal Oak area 5 years ago and had a hard time adjusting. That is, until we found New China Moon. This place, I have tried atleast 7-8 times and disappointed every time. They don't care how you want your food made, you eat the way they make it. period. You bring it home and it is completely different. When I try to check why, they will argue. If you want your food spicy, you have to buy their hot oil separately. One of was the worst and cheap Chinese places I have visited in my lifetime. I don't understand why it is hard to make a food spicy or non spicy based on customer choice. I see the strategy of theirs as to sell the hot oil on the side, again which I have tried earlier, which is more oil and less red pepper. Very cheap.. Again, If you pay by credit card, they charge you extra too. But atleast the food should be good.. god.. it is so..below par. I have ordered almond chicken twice from this place and both times the chicken was so over cooked.... it was like shoe leather also the batter kept separating from the over cooked chicken...I was also disappointed in the beef chop suey....there was hardley any beef at all in it !! Ok in a pinch, but definately just very ordinary Chinese food, nothing special at all! Better Chinese food than what I could find in San Francisco. All of the dishes I have tried are always cooked fresh and are not soggy. Almond chicken, orange chicken, mushu pork, and sesame chicken are all great choices. I heard they recently added a chicken pad thai dish that is supposed to be very good.
