Judging by the fact that there is always a line to get in here at night, Szechuan Café should be nothing short of five stars. It's our third time here and this time we are here because we got a gift certificate for Christmas. Luckily we got here before 630 because thats when the line forms at the door. And the takeout line is almost as long. This family run establishment runs like a perfectly greased wheel. Everyone who is working here does every job. You never go long without an unfilled water glass or beverage. Plates are cleared discreetly and quietly without interrupting you. The table settings include high-quality napkins which are sadly missing today at many of the places we dine. And you don't have to ask for extras because they always give you a couple extra. Plus everyone who works here smiles at every table as they walk by. It's just really good old fashioned service that makes our experience even better. But none of that would matter if the food didn't live up. Well the food does live up to our expectations and in fact often times exceeds our expectations. The portion sizes are large. Presentation is wonderful and the food is great. There aren't enough superlatives. I just know that I'm glad to have found this place and we will be back often.

Best Chinese food in Pasadena for several years in a row....I think not. After speaking to a few people I heard that this place sold a year or two back. Maybe in it's past life did it earn the title of best Chinese food in Pasadena but these days it is far from it. My husband and I have lived in the area for several years and always wanted to try Szechuan Cafe. We heard great things about it and all through the shutdown they had a line out the door for carry out. What could go wrong? Well just about everything but the egg roll. I have to give credit where it is due and say they had probably the best egg roll I have had since moving to Maryland away from my go to Chinese restaurant in NJ. It contained baby shrimp and overall was delicious. The cup of egg drop soup was good taste wise but was barely warm. My husband ordered the Kung Pao Chicken combination dish with pork fried rice. The rice was rather dry and the Kung Pao Chicken had the peanuts just thrown on top, not mixed in with the meal like you normally find. He also ordered the Scallop lo mein. Upon first bit it completely lacked taste. He opted to save it for lunch the next day and was able to whip it up in his wok after throwing some sauce and seasonings in it to give it some flavor. I had the vegetable lo mein with pork fried rice. I also didn't get much flavor out of my lo mein and didn't really enjoy it. I ate a little bit of it and then combined it with my husband's lo mein for his lunch the next day. I was very disappointed due to my high expectations after the great feedback I have heard about this place. I will not be returning.

I like this place! Best Mongolian beef in town. Their sushi bar is fantastic and the manager is the best.

Service tonight was horrendous. You don't belong arguing with customers. Have some respect when you make a mistake on food.

I usually stay away from Chinese food just due to the use of wheat noodles and soy sauce but having a few options that are safe and delicious is what really sets Peter Chang apart from other Chinese restaurants in the area. My favorites from the menu include: Crystal shrimp dumplings - so yummy and perfectly steamed. Comes with a sauce that might be questionable for my more sensitive gluten free foodies so proceed with caution. Absolutely delicious shrimp inside though! Scallion fried rice - comes with generous amount of egg and customized spice level. Goes great with a little extra tamari if you have some at home. Bok choy and mushrooms - omg, I think about this bok choy weekly! It's so perfectly cooked. Crunchy, full of flavor, and goes well with the mushrooms. I like mixing this into the fried rice. Singapore noodles - this was a new item for me but really yummy. Loved the thing rice noodles that had a nice chew to them and didn't fall apart. Seasoning was fresh and not overpowering at all. Comes with thinly sliced chicken and a few shrimp plus some chopped veggies. Add some of your own tamari to it for a little extra flavor! Delivery has always been prompt and dishes packaged well. I've never eaten in, as it's more of a casual takeout spot, but their food really fulfills my Chinese food cravings.

I ordered UberEats to my hotel. I ordered several things:…read more Chicken with broccoli, Eggplant in spicy garlic sauce, Green beans, White rice, Crystal shrimp dumpling and Hot and sour tofu egg soup. The food overall was delicious. Each of the entrees was flavorful and well prepared. Two things I want to mention: I thought the shrimp dumpling (3 of them) should have been a larger portion for the price and that the soup was a bit salty. Other than that, no complaints. After placing my order online, I called the restaurant to request plates, plastic ware and chop sticks. The friendly person on the phone assured me "no problem," and everything was received as promised. I had ordered a lot more food than I should have, and ended up having some for dinner, lunch the following day and late afternoon snack a day later. The entrees and rice held up well under repeat microwaving. I've been unimpressed by Peter Chang (eating at the testaurant) at another location in the past. I thought it was overpriced for what was typical Chinese food. I will likely try them out again after this experience. The food was much better than I remember it and seemed reasonably priced for the portions.
