Haven't been in a while and stopped in for a quick bite and a drink around 3:30. Had the pearl river roll and it wasn't what it used to be. Not impressed at all. It was supposed to be happy hour, but there was no mention of it to me, and I was charged full price for both things. While it's close by, I don't see a reason to return. read more

My family, friends and I have been here a handful of times over the past couple of years. Thankfully, we haven't had any of the problems other reviews seemed to have. The service and food has always been great. We usually get Christine or Kimi as our server when we come for lunch. They're always polite and attentive. You can't go wrong with the lunch combos. You pick your main entree, and are given three additional options to choose from: white rice or vegetable fried rice, wonton or chicken corn, or hot & sour soup, or soda, and a egg roll or spring roll. The soups are always piping hot. My friend loves their hot and sour soup. I love the crispy wonton strips that come with the soups. The portions are plentiful for lunch. I've never left hungry. I usually stick with the chicken or beef and broccoli. I ask for my broccoli to be cooked soft. Sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn't. The pineapple rice is great! The egg rolls are nice and crispy. Overall, we enjoy coming here for lunch. Wonderful service and great food - what more could you want? read more

My grandparents owned a Chinese restaurant when I was younger so I always compared Chinese food to theirs'. This places' food was very close to my grandparents' cooking. The prices are very reasonable...lunch special on a weekend?! The egg rolls are full, not little and puny, and even had little shrimp pieces. My 5yo daughter had the S&S chicken and I was impressed it was all white chicken and the breading was not thick and crispy. Our server was very nice and attentive. Checked on us periodically to see how we were doing and if everything was ok. The place was clean and piano music was playing in the background. There's a coy 'pond' by the entrance l, which was very beautiful to look at. It is a shame the restaurant is located so far back in the shopping center. The huge footprint looked very lonely sitting so far back from the main road. It may be the time of the day (it was 3pm), but there were no cars for any of the stores in the strip. Mid meal we told the waitress that something was not right with one of our dishes. She said it was normal. She needed a manager to take it off the bill. The manager came over and would not listen. She ended up taking it off the bill. My father immediately went to the bathroom in the restaurant and vomited because whatever he ate upset his stomach. The End. read more

some of the worst chinese food I have ever had. Greasy fried shrimp toast and wontons. Kung pao shrimp (barely warm--like it wasn't reheated enough) was buried in thick gloppy brown sauce, like out of a can. the zucchini was quartered and in three inch long pieces. There were huge chunks of green pepper. LOTS of green pepper--basically raw. It was like the cook was too lazy to make a few more passes with a knife for bite-sized pieces of vegetables. I love this place! We live close and it is definitely one of our go to. They have a great happy hour, wonderful sushi and extensive Chinese food menu. My kids love the California rolls which is very reasonably priced. Everything I've had here is good. I've sat at the bar just to have a Mai Tai they make a very good one and have happy hour all day on Sundays plus my friends and I can play keno. The atmosphere is somewhat welcoming, but the food definitely lacks taste and it's overpriced. I want to give them some credit for trying by leaving 2 stars instead of 1, but they definitely need to try a little bit harder. The duck was soggy and came with tortillas instead of the traditional Chinese steamed buns like every normal Chinese food place serves them with. We ordered a full duck but it seemed like they gave us a half. Way overpriced for the low quality. Panda Express probably would have tasted better for half the price. I was really hungry and we stopped by - they advertise sushi, so asked for the carry out sushi menu...sorry, no sushi. With Covid, I understand a menu adjustment so ordered shrimp lo mein and miso soup. Have you ever been so hungry that anything tastes good? I was 'that' hungry. The soup was edible, the lo mein and shrimp were not. The shrimp tasted like maybe it had been frozen for 1 or 2 years too many before cooking and I am pretty sure the noodles were part styrofoam. It was a lunch special so came with an egg roll. I put my hand in the bag and it came out absolutely SOAKED with grease. I was so disgusted I couldn't take a bite. Guess they have good bar regulars in the older crowd but will shove those wanting a nice peaceful meal back in the bar as well. Rest of restaurant is empty. So loud you can't hear across the table. Had soup and veg spring rolls but then got wrong order, prob couldn't hear even though pointed it out on menu so cancelled instead of enduring any more time there. Disgusting. Paid over $75 for the worst Chinese food I have ever had. Mushy greasy vegetables, chicken and beef has no flavor. My girlfriend and I hit the Szechuan Inn last evening for dinner. It was my first visit and it had been some years since last she visited. It was a Saturday evening - and we expected it to be crowded. On the contrary, there was no line and the place was almost empty. I chalk this up to the amazingly beautiful weather we were having - everyone was probably home grilling out on the deck! The ambiance of the place is nice - the lights are turned down low and there are candles adorning each table, covered in a crisp, white tablecloth. We were seated at a corner combination booth/table. When I go for Chinese, I pretty much know what I like - having tried most Chinese dishes many times. My girlfriend ordered an order of 4 spring rolls for us to share, and the Beef Szechuan, while I ordered the Hot & Sour soup and Kung Pao Chicken - extra spicy. Both were served with a side of fried rice. We also ordered a pot of Chinese tea. We were brought a bowl of the fried crispy noodles to dip in Duck Sauce or Chinese mustard while we waited for our food. I must say - the Chinese mustard was serviceable - but it was not as hot and spicy as I would have liked. We ate the whole bowl of mustard and asked for a second one. We barely touched the Duck Sauce - neither of us are a fan of Duck Sauce. The soup was tasty and I shared some with my girlfriend. The entrees were also good. Chinese restaurants seem to have a wide variation of what chopped vegetables they use in their Kung Pao dishes. I am a fan of the ones that include Broccoli florets. Their version had no Broccoli - in fact, I was only able to discern that there was celery and scallions in this version. The spice level was good - I worked up a mild sweat eating it. My girlfriend's entree was okay - I am not a fan of Beef Szechuan, she tried some of my entree and liked it better. The servers were very attentive and we enjoyed our dinner there. The Inn is reasonably priced - dinner for two with tip came to $36.00. If the Chinese mustard had been hotter and the Kung Pao Chicken had more vegetables, I would have given them a 5 star rating. read more

We went here for a birthday dinner for my friend. She brought her two kids. They seemed to love it. Maybe my tastes have changed so much but to be honest, I probably wouldn't go back here again. Don't get me wrong, it's not because of the place, the service or the food. It was all good. I'm just not a fan of these kind of restaurants. The price was right...the food was delicious. The ambience is not too romantic or warm...but the bathrooms are very clean and modern. The tables are awkward for having a large group. It was difficult to find room for our plates! They don't use traditional service dishes or pans, but bring the out on an uncovered HUGE plate. So it makes the servings looks smaller than they actually are. Then there is no room on the table. I like to scoop my Chinese food onto my white rice...but the way they present it, it's already on a plate with no rice. Kind of strange. THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS! The Egg Rolls are the best. I will definitely agree to some awesome carryout from them again but probably won't dine there. P.S. The bar area looked a lot more interesting on the way out. Szechuan Inn is definitely one of the more underrated places I've been to, and as far as authentic Chinese food goes in Maryland (which is rather limited in selection), this place is REALLY good! I especially loved their fried shrimp and can agree with the other Yelpers below me that the beef and broccoli and soups are also pretty good. Being Chinese, I eat similar types of dishes practically everyday (thanks Mom), but if you are going for the first time and may not be too familiar with the items on the menu, definitely play it safe and ask them for their more popular choices. In terms of ambiance, it's a little different from the scene I'm used to (I'm originally from LA), but the owners of the restaurant are some of the nicest people I have ever met. If the place isn't too busy, strike up some conversation with them -- they're so friendly! The restaurant is unofficially split into two sections, a more quiet dining area (very family friendly) and at night, there's a bar and karaoke / DJ. Seems to be better suited for a more mature crowd, but lively and fun nonetheless. Overall, I think this is a great hole-in-the-wall, and I believe they print coupons in the local newspaper, so definitely check it out! read more

When they remodeled the place, they must have removed all sense of humanity from the staff because the service has steadily declined over the last two years. The restaurant is clean and orderly and the food is perfectly adequate, although sushi combos suffer a bit under the oppressive slowness of the one girl who seem to be the waitress for everyone outside the bar area. If you need to be anywhere inside of two hours, you have no business walking into Szechuan Inn and frankly, they don't care. For every request and need, a blank look is standard and any escalation to the older woman who appears to be the owner is just as useless. She laughs and walks away. It's a great recipe if you want to end up like Yomato, out of business. Szechuan's renovation and slightly above average Chinese (American style Chinese?) food can't compensate for the crappy slow service. I'm done giving them my money. read more

The only item that was good was the Wonton Soup. The Shrimp Toast was dripping in GREASE. I used Door Dash who I like and ordered House Lo Mein and got appetizer order of shrimp fried rice which had a sliver of chicken 3 small shrimp and well chopped pork. Called the restaurant to advise of the error was was told that they did not have an order in my name. Found that funny since I was sitting in front of the meal. The fried rice was only edible when I dumped soy sauce on it as so dry more like glue. My husband order shrimp chow mien, he had 4 pieces of shrimp and tons of veggies. I decided to meet some friends of mine from the gym on a Friday night; apparently this is there "go to" spot after their workout because of the sushi. My sister and I were greeted at the door and found our fiends right away. We sat at the Sushi Bar. The waitress (hostess/ waitress) brought the menus and took our drink orders right away; I ordered a cosmo (of course) and spring rolls for an appetizer. The first cosmo came out a with a little more triple sec then desired but the second one was on point! The spring rolls were delicious and a great size (not too small or big). Lastly, I ordered General Tso's chicken, that's where they lost me a little bit, the food was intimidating at first sight due to the large amount of dough that was fried on the chicken and there was only 2 pieces of broccoli on the plate. The sauce for the chicken was extremely thick and reminded me of syrup. I'm not a sushi fan however my friends love it and visit often. This is not an establishment I see myself going out of my way to patronize as often as my colleagues. All in all, I give this establishment 3 stars for ambiance, their cosmos and the spring rolls. Truly let down by this place. Ordered a decent amount of food for delivery. All seemed well then 15 min before it was to arrive it shows ( prior had shown on its way) as canceled. Wtf?? Called to speak with manager, gal tells me there is none. Seems odd. Wouldn't be a big deal except they charged my card. Now have to file a dispute of charge with my bank.
