Very good food, but very expensive. This is the best Chinese food I've ever had, especially the orange chicken and crab rangoon. The portion sizes are also large. For example, an order of crab rangoons has 6 and each meal is enough for 2 people, in my opinion. They also deliver and are very fast. We got delivery and it just was not good. Ordered the pad thai, pork and thin buns, pot stickers, and spring rolls. The only good thing that I can say about any of it is that the food was super hot (temp not flavor), the buns were traditional, and the pot stickers were okay. Everything else was awful. I'll take a bit of blame for ordering a Thai dish from a Szechuan restaurant but it really was bad. At first we thought they forgot to put the sauce on it? It was literally plain noodles, slippery chicken, and red bell peppers. Maybe they thought the lime garnish was suppose to be the sauce? The crushed peanuts were plentiful but it was hands down the worst pad thai I have ever had in my life. We didn't even take two bites. The pork was swimming in grease and taste like a bad onion ginger roux. Maybe if they had quadrupled the amount of seasoning it would have been okay. The buns were decent though. The fried rice that came with the dish was somehow unevenly cooked and glistened with as much grease as the pork. Seriously do yourself a favor and drive to get indian take out or cook at home. This place was not good. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes but it was enough for us to never order from them again. My family and I were in town for the weekend and ordered delivery from here. The crab ragoons were delicious, as was the sesame chicken. The tofu Pad Thai was a bit dry but had some good flavor. The food is good, a little bit overpriced but its overall a good. However, just found out recently that they do not allow outside drinks while dining. So be prepared to place your drink at the side or finish it. Even if its a mountain dew can or bottle of water. We came in and did not know this at the time, had a freshly brewed hot signature tea and she told us we had to leave it because they don't allow outside drinks. Her reasoning was because they also sell tea. But what If we don't like your tea? But i get it, we did not know and we were not willing to leave our warm drink at the side and have it turn cold after we eat. So I kindly asked, is it okay if we have it this time, we just got these drinks. And she rudely said no, leave it, no outside drinks allowed. So I said, okay, and as I walked out I asked her, so your willing to lose paying customers for a $5 outside drink? And she said yes. Kinda rude. But I get it, some restaurants have no outside drinks. Definitely giving this place a 4 star because it's authenticity like most Chinese restaurants in the big cities. This authenticity is hard to find in this state of Iowa. Tonight we actually had a big group so we had reservations in a private room. We were accommodated very well with our reservation and service was excellent from beginning to end. Since we had big group we were able to order a variety of dishes. (Again we had a big group so I probably won't cover all the food items) For the appetizer, we started out with Ox tongue with Tripe (I was impressed by this, it was a cold dish but the spicy sauce paired well with the "meat"), Three ingredient Potsticker (Not the best here, average but definitely not fresh tasted frozen and they even admitted that it was not made there), and Dan Dan Noodles (This is a cold dish but not the best I've had either but they were average, thought it needed a little more flavor). For the entrees we had Salt and Pepper squid (Average), House special Spare Ribs (This was new to me, tasted like the spare ribs you order from Dim Sum but just a bigger version of it), Twice Cooked Pork (Pork belly cooked with onions served with Bao, kind of on the greasy side but it was tasteful), Fried fish with Green onions (Fish fillet cooked in the white sauce), Egg Plant with Garlic sauce (I thought this was one of the best dish that we ordered, Egg plant cooked in a sweet and garlic red sauce - Highly recommend this one), Sesame Chicken (I would give thumbs down on this one, okay but I am guessing they don't cook the popular American-Chinese items very well), and finally the hot pot (We ordered the $39.99 hot pot special where you get to pick 3 meat and 4 veggies. Definitely pretty good, I thought this was better than the one Szechuan place I been to in Chicago). Even with our big group, the service was excellent and food was great. As for the price, some items were pricey and some items were average. Most of the delicacy items were on the pricey side but the other well known items were average. But overall I thought they gave you a lot food (enough to share) for them being on the pricey side. I will definitely come back to try more things on the menu that I wanted to try but couldn't on the first visit!! read more

Overall it was not very good, and I would not get it again. We got sesame chicken, which was extremely breaded (and I'm someone who really likes breaded chicken), so much so that it did not really even taste like chicken. The fried rice was decent, but nothing to write home about as were the potstickers. Overall it was definitely not worth the money. For it being much more expensive than other places in town it should be much better in quality and taste, and sadly it wasn't. The food came out and I could see real garlic, fresh peppers, nice pieces of meat and not covered in genetic brown sauce. Very disappointed today. Feel like we were taken advantage of. We were charged the increased weekend price for rewarmed food that had too much breading and the service was poor. People giving one star when a place JUST opened and is figuring out the kinks in the first 2 days are just silly. Makes no sense to even put a review like that on here. Yes, service was slow, but they were honestly running around. And if you don't know how Chinese restaurants work, then don't go. My litmus test is if the people who eat whatever ethnic food being served are packing the house and enjoying it, then they're doing it right. They definitely had some weird but authentic Schezuan food on the menu (duck tongues??) . And if you're not familiar with food from that region off China, know that it is known for very spicy food. I can only recommend what I had, the spicy hot chicken, and good Lord it was amazing! Our food didn't come out all at once, but as each dish is ready. A lot of the Chinese groups ordered a bunch of dishes and shared a lá family style. Go check it out! Don't base going or not off of inappropriate reviews! Absolutely terrible service. I placed an order for take out and was told it would be 15 min. I was there exactly 15 min later and payed for my food. I waited for another 30 min while the guy who took my order avoided me while helping other customers. I realize things can come up, but twice as long as they told me is ridiculous. By the time I had gotten my food it had been 45 min since I place my order. I received no apology or explanation. I demanded a refund and after waiting an additional 5 min for him to help other customers before me left with no food or apology. I will never be back. read more

This is by far one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. For starters, when my boyfriend and I walked in, there were three workers standing there and not one of them acknowledged us. Did not even say we will be right with you.. Nothing. When we were finally seated and ready to order, our waiter was not familiar with the menu what-so-ever. Now given that its a new restaurant and the menu is rather large, I would have cut him some slack, but I ordered sesame chicken and he looked at me like i was speaking dutch. Sesame chicken and chicken fried rice are dishes you can get at almost any Chinese restaurant, am I wrong? Then I decided to try a bubble tea.. Which they did not have. My boyfriend got his meal (chicken fried rice) way before they brought my food. We came together. I am sorry, but why would we not want to eat together? When my sesame chicken arrived i was please with the look of it only to cut into it.. I don't know what It was, but that was NOT chicken. Absolutely horrified. We got the potstickers which were very good. My wife ordered the orange chicken, it was good. Had the right amount of heat. I ordered the spicy chicken. I figured there was going to be some sort of sauce. I was wrong. It was just fried chicken with peppers. Lots of peppers. Like it was seriously half peppers and half chicken. This is my favorite Chinese place in Ames. Taste place is also delicious, but that's even more authentic and a bit more of a hole-in-the-wall. Szechuan house opened a few years ago when I lived super close and I went on a whim. It's better quality than most Chinese restaurants and it is a bit pricier - unless you get the lunch special. However, the regular portions could easily last 2-3 meals. The Kung Pao chicken and garlic chicken are my favorites. Their crab rangoons are the best rangoons I've ever had; they're a little sweet and a whole lot of delicious. I get delivery regularly for the nights when no one wants to cook - food always arrives perfectly hot and on-time. People recommended 888 to me, but I thought it was disgusting/unsanitary. I'm picky about food quality, so this is my place. Definitely go here instead. read more

Came in today for lunch grand opening. Our group of three waited for 10 minutes to even be talked to. Once we were talked to we were told it would be an hour wait to be seated (please keep in mind there was only a couple in front of us waiting, again, only two people ahead of us). To make it even worse the person who came out to tell us this seemed to do it for the purpose of asking us to leave. I've eaten here several times now. Their food is good quality, but their service can be lacking some times. I've had several dishes and usually find the food isn't as spicy as I would like. This restaurant is probably closer to the typical buffet style Chinese that many consumers are accustom to, except it's not a buffet. read more
