We have not visited the ward location for a while and I was disappointed with the selection. I normally go to the location near Pearl highlands and the Kapolei location so I am used to more selection and stock. The store was pretty much half empty. Everyone knows about the discount stores such as Ross, Marshalls and T.J. Maxx which has gained popularity in the past years. Each sells name brand quality merchandise at a big discount from if you were to purchase it from the major retailers. There is a difference in these stores and I feel that T.J. carries a higher grade of items and most of the Hawaii stores are kept in well organized order. I've been to other T.J. locations in the country where it literally looks like a black friday mob ransacked through the place. This location is in the Ward Villages shopping complex located on the 3rd floor with lots of parking in the attached garage or at any nearby parking lots within the Ward Village. There is usually a employee at the front welcoming you into the store but in todays situation also a deterrent for unwelcomed theft. T.J. has mainly women's fashion, shoes, jewelry and make -up but also carries a good selection of home items. They have wonderful selection of home decor items for both interior and exterior. Although the men's area is quite small, the selection and quality of their items are very good. This location is quite often busy but they always have a number of efficient cashiers servicing the customers. read more

Honolulu is already expensive in practically every aspect, I'm resigned to the fact I'll rarely ever shop here. But seeing as I was running errands and in need of some last minute gifts, thus TJ Maxx was the place to be. If I wasn't in a slight hurry, I would easily stayed longer to browse. (#1) This store is huge. It is also super clean and things are easy to find. The staff was supremely helpful in telling me where things were and even went out of the way to escort me to various parts of the store to find different versions of the items I needed, as well as helped with price comparisons. As a result, I was able to find what I needed and more. I was even able to use their bathroom, which was super clean. I know lines can be a problem at any location, but this time was not the case. The only things that bothered me was the security at the door, who gave me some unnecessary 'tude and the less than stellar parking situation. ______________ (#1) Such is the curse with almost all TJ Maxx locations. read more

Without a doubt, I loveeee discounted department stores. So far, this one is my top favorite. They always have some good furniture, home supplies, beauty products, etc. And the area is a safe location. Sadly, I had to minus a star because one of the cashiers, that I've had twice already, doesn't seem so friendly (not the best vibes). Firstly, prior to my visit, I decided to park across the street in the Ward Center parking garage since I was meeting a friend for lunch that day. I walked across the street expecting the entrance to be located somewhere on the ground floor, but instead I discover a sign placed in front of what looked like an entrance directing me to access the store by taking the elevators or escalators to the 3rd floor. After making my way to the 3rd level, I have to admit I was excited.......but this was partly due to the absence of large crowds. My initial reaction when I walked in was that the store wasn't as big as I thought it was going to be. In fact, I couldn't believe how small this location was.....granted I have not been to other Hawaii TJ Maxx locations yet, I just thought this store would be bigger. I think the fact that this store is located adjacent to a 7 story parking garage gave me the illusion that it was grander than it was, but in any case the store is only regulated to the 3rd level. One of my first thoughts was that this store looks strangely like a more upscale Ross with similar decor/colors of a Target. Observations: 1) The mens department is quite small. Also, there is no men's shoe section/department, and although I wasn't planning on looking for shoes, this was still somewhat of a surprise and disappointment. However, there is an ample selection of slippers in the mens section, which slightly makes up for the absence of shoes. 2) There is a large selection of suitcases and luggage....much more choices than I expected. I definitely wouldn't be opposed to returning this location in the future if I need to replace any suitcases in the future. 3) The home furnishing and bath sections seemed to have a decent selection of towels, bathroom accessories, kitchen ware, dishes, and glassware. 4) Patience was needed during checkout, but not because of the long line....initially. I think some of the cashiers were still in the phase of becoming comfortable with processing transactions, as some needed assistance of a fellow co-worker or manager. The cashier that helped me was quite friendly, polite, and gladly informed me of the return policy when I asked. PURCHASE: I did end up purchasing a pair of Chaps Ralph Lauren slippers for $12.99, suggested retail $28.99. NOTE: Return policy is 30 days with a receipt with the refund to be issued in the original form of payment. Bottom Line. Clean store/location. Friendly employees. Each visit I noticed that the store is clean and organized. I usually come here to look for baby shower gifts, skin care, and shoes. They have a decent selection and some are designer brands such as Shiseido and Michael Kors. Sometimes you get lucky and find treasures. Other times, not so lucky. This location is on the third floor of the South Shore Marketplace. Parking can be difficult especially on the weekends or during a huge sale. A great place to check out and shop at. read more

Unfortunately I dealt with a worker (Yuko) who was too busy trying to fill product she came between my cart and the planners I was looking at. I did not feel she was genuine about helping me, which I never asked for help. Kinda just in shock she was oblivious to "pushing me out" so she could fill product. When I asked for an apology because she insisted she could help me she refused after 3x. She made a comment while I walked away, as If i was unreasonable. Passed off to management how I felt uncomfortable, and disrespected. Appreciate that they dealt with it, apologized immediately. Yesterday was my second time going to TJ Maxx. They really have a lot to offer and it was a little overwhelming at first. TJ Maxx is like a Ross store but with slightly higher prices. They have better brands at TJ Maxx and there is a lot more selection. I went there yesterday to exchange some gifts that my mom got me for my birthday. There is just so much stuff to look through, but it was rather organized. It's organized by sections and it's not messy in the racks either. Some places that you go to, the racks are all messy and even though there are size labels on the rack, none of the sizes are there. It's a little frustrating to shop at those stores. TJ Maxx is nothing like that. Everything is in its proper place and easy to find. I was able to find an outfit to exchange for the other outfit that didn't fit. I was very satisfied with my purchase and the outfit was actually a name brand label. Not that I'm so much into labels, but I got a pretty reasonable price for that brand. After you look at the original price and the price that TJ Maxx charges, you really think that you are getting an awesome deal. TJ Maxx's baby department is also very extensive. My baby is still only 5 months and usually when I go to other big box kind of stores, it's really hard to find things in her size (she's small and she still wears 3 months clothes). But at TJ Maxx, they had a lot of different types of clothes for her. If you haven't been to TJ Maxx, you should really check it out. They have tons of parking and lots of selection for everyone on your shopping list. read more

With the abundance of Ross as the preeminent discount store in Hawaii, I'm so thankful to have a superior option in T.J.Maxx. The Ward location is one of the nicest I've been too, and they just keep improving the layout and organization. Located in one of the newer parts of Ward Center, it's on the 3rd floor connected to the most convenient parking garage of the complex. Entrance is a snap either by parking right outside or taking one of the many elevators or escalators. There is also a ground floor entrance with stairs that opens onto a nice sidewalk and fountains across from Nordstrom Rack. This store has a great selection of mainly clothes, home goods, exercise equipment, furniture, food, and toys. I come here to look around at things for my apartment. Prices are excellent, especially for Hawaii. Staff is friendly and there are always plenty of cashiers to make check out easy and fast. Danger Will Robinson! I love T.J. Maxx to begin with and I have tried to avoid this location since I have lived here...and now I know why! This is by far the best location on Oahu in my opinion. They are all good, but this one seems HUGE and more variety. Definitely a store where it challenges you to come in without buying something. It's a very well put together store and really puts me in a my "happy place" when I roam the isles. A really big pro is the parking at the Ward. This store has its own level in the parking garage which makes it super simple to park & shop. No con's other than it's hard to get out of there without buying something! read more

This TJ Maxx location is my least favorite, although you'd think this would be the primary anchor store given it's location in town. It's OK and just that: very tiny food section, super anemic compared to the Pearlridge, Pearl City and Kapolei locations. House decor also limited and did not capture my interest. Not as many bath soaps, which I love to buy. Larger selection of clothing and bags, however, as compared to the other three locations mentioned above. First off, let me start by saying I'm so glad this place isn't comparable to Ross (aka where good things go to die) While TJ Maxx isn't the cheapest place in the world, you can easily find a lot of great things for an okay price. When I was there, I did see many "high" end brands such as Ralph Lauren, YSL, Marc Jacobs, etc. Along with that, there was also tons of affordable brands for sale! I spent the most time in the beauty aisle and the home goods. Ladies, if you love Essie nail polish, it's only $3.50 here! Customer Service is fantastic over here! When I was just thinking to myself about how much I needed to get a cart while carrying three sets of heavy curtains, a lil worker bee magically appeared and asked if I needed one. Then, as I was approaching the fitting room, not needing to try anything on (just checking out the bedding merchandise), the two ladies working that area said "Good Morning!" So welcoming! When I checked out, the lady at the register was really nice. She also mentioned that if for any reason the curtains did not fit or look right, I can bring them back as long as I bring all of the hangers and tags back, they will fold them back up. Of the T.J. Maxx stores on Oahu, this is my preferred location. Not gonna lie- this T.J. Maxx can sometimes get quite picked through and messy. After all, it is located in town and often frequented by tourists. Nonetheless, for me, the selection of merchandise is better than the other ones on island. The other locations don't seem to match my taste in clothing and housewares. I've often gone to the Pearlridge, Pearl City, and Kapolei stores, only to come out disappointed and empty handed. I'm not sure of the other locations, but this one seems dog-friendly as on more than one occasion I've seen customers come in with their furry companions. I recommend shopping here at Ward Village, particularly if you're looking for designer items. I just have much better luck here than their other locations. read more

I love TJ Maxx, you can always find a deal or 2. This particular one is well shopped so you really had to dig to find some good stuff. I was mainly looking for surf shorts for my son, can't find the good ones in GA/FL. I was profiled by there security, not sure why. At first I thought it was just coincidence that he was at the same places I was. My son was touching a lot of stuff, but I made him fix what he messed up. Finally I asked him why he thought I was stealing? He looked surprised and played like he didn't know what I was talking about. I told him he's been following me and I saw him speak to several employees. I too am observant and keep an eye on my surroundings. I didn't appreciate it and if my kid wasn't in love with the 2 surf shorts he found. I would have walked out. This place is shopping heaven for me. Even more so, no rude staff. Everyone is very nice, so far and the inventory is hit or miss. It's well like a treasure hunt, you never know what your going to find. You can find really high end prices for way lower prices than their original price. Store is stuffed with items galore, you just have to look through every rack. I don't mind, I'm already happy with the prices. People might say hey it's messy, but to me I look at it like more inventory. Yay!! More things for me to hoard, lol. But then I noticed a smaller sign in the window that said, "Please refrain from shaking hands with people that you meet in the store" or something to that effect. TJ Maxx doesn't want me shaking hands with an acquaintance I might run into in their store. So let me get this straight, I can try on clothes that 100 different people I don't know have tried on before me, but I'm supposed to refrain from shaking hands with people I do know! REALLY!!! If TJ Maxx is that afraid of People shaking hands, Covid and anything else the news says they show be afraid of, then they should just close their doors. Nordstrom rack is right next door! I love browsing at TJMaxx and during the pandemic, it was my place to go roaming around...exercise, getting out, when everything else was closed. I love the variety of goods for the entire family, clothing, shoes, purses, beauty products, houseewares, unique gift items, snacks, and so much more. I am a regular at TJMaxx, I feel safe going there as everyone is taking all the safety measures - staff and customers. But lately, at the checkout line, people are not keeping distance and I have to remind them to stand away, we are NOT all safe yet! It was a comedy of errors, except I wasn't laughing. After making a sizable purchase consisting of many items, I discovered after I got home that a two things had been left out of my shopping bags by the cashier, India. I'm sure it was an honest mistake, but the problem was that I don't live near the store and wasn't sure when I would be back in the neighborhood. I called the store and explained the problem, asking for a credit back to my charge card. The clerk confirmed that they had my merchandise, verified the credit card I used for the transaction, and she would hold the stuff for pickup. When I explained that I didn't want to make an extra trip for their mistake, she said they couldn't do anything to help me. Next, I asked to speak with a manager. Assistant Manager David took my call and apologized, which was a step in the right direction, however, he said that store policy would prevent them from crediting my card over the phone. After I complained that I was being penalized for the cashier's mistake, he said he'd talk to the store manager and call back, which he did. The store manager, as it turns out, lives near me and offered to drop of the items. Great! However, when a couple more days came and went and I hadn't seen or heard from her, I called David again. He again apologized and checked with the manager (never did learn her name). The manager said she stopped by my house, and since I wasn't home, left the things with someone next door. She didn't get the name of the person with whom she left it, and as it turns out, my neighbor's family was over at the time, preparing a surprise party for my neighbor, who also was not home when the manager came by. The mystery continued. Now, I had to contact my neighbor and ask her to go around to her friends and family to see if anyone knew about the items. Finally, she tracked them down for me. When I picked up the bag, David had written on the receipt "customer left behind"--so evidently this whole debacle was my fault! They've tried the Hawaii market before and for whatever reason, it didn't work out. But maybe with the economy the way it is now, they'll find success this time around, now that people are more budget-conscious. Mens clothing, womens clothing, child clothing, outdoor gear, pet supplies, furniture, gourmet food items, cooking ware, shoes, fragrances, luggage, and jewelry. It's like mini-Macys. I should made this location of TJ Maxx my first visit instead of the Pearl City store which was not that great. My shopping trip here was wonderful! I was looking for more baby items and ended up walking out with way more than that. Way better baby section than the one at Pearl City. The housewares department had a great selection. I didn't really look at the women's clothes because I was pregnant and didn't want to look at clothes that would not fit at that moment. Sales! They were having great sales in each department and I found packaged undershirts for a great low price. I found the perfect Calvin Kline bag for me at the Pearl City store. I really don't care about brand names. I look for styles that I like. Everyone has there own personal style and I don't judge people by the clothes and accessories they choose to ware. The store is neat and clean and the staff was helpful. Had a nice conversation with a staff member in housewares. I will return again for more retail therapy for I am a savvy shopper! Now that I am more into fitness, I have started to buy more workout clothes and recently told a friend I shopped at Target for some great deals. She told me to look into TJ Maxx as they may have my size and color at reasonable prices. So I then decided to drive down here the other day to check this place out. Being a fairly new store, it was very bright and spacious with very friendly staff walking around to either greet me or ask if everything was okay. My very first impression: a stepped-up version of Ross Stores. They had in my opinion quite an extensive line of various clothes from children to adults, accessories and household items. I did find some workout clothes so I tried them on in the dressing room. The clerk here was very friendly. The room was spacious and I somewhat chuckled when I saw the sign something like "Go ahead and just buy it!" Luckily, there were some clothes which I decided to buy so I headed to the cashier section only to get sucked into buying more. Perhaps it's a strategic move where you put various snacks near the cashier. I ended up spending more time looking at the yummy goodies and got suckered into buying some as well. Overall, a great experience shopping here. I really like this location and after living in Boston for 9+ years and shopping at locations up there, this store is actually very well organized, staffed and clean! There always seems to be a manager when I am checking out at this location moving the line and calling more employees to open up their registers when the line starts to build up. I Haven't been to the one in Pearl City yet but this is my go to place for Dog stuff. My puppy thinks its Christmas every time I come home after a trip here. They have durable doggie toys that can withstand the beatings that my puppy bestows on all of his toys priced from $3.99-$7.99. I always find at least 2-3 toys each trip for my puppy. Doggie treats and dental bones/chews are also priced at least $2-$3 less than at Petco, Longs and other pet stores and they carry XL and L puppy shirt sizes for $9.99 for my 65lb puppy. He also loves the doggie beds, you can get similar ones at Costco for $34 but here they sell them for around $27. This is the only location of where I can find the Doctors Dermatalogic Formula skin care line other than the internet. After Sephora discontinued the line at Ala Moana, this has been my back up and its awesome that its almost always 40%-50% off on all of the products they carry for this line. I asked of when they receive new shipments and its on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The brand new inventory goes on the floor by the afternoon time so its a great stop off for me after work to kill some time and avoid some of the traffic on those days. My only gripe is that I really wish they had more gourmet food items like they used to last year, what happened with that? That isle seems to have diminished drastically...... read more

This is my favorite TJ Maxx. I think it's because I can park my fuel efficient vehicle in their "fuel efficient" parking stall. It's a privilege. Tried to pay my credit card bill with a check. They do not accept payment because they don't have access. Spoke to friendly manager who was apologizing to customers for the wait at the checkout line. He took me on the side and patiently guided me through the process of payment by phone which is free when you don't use a customer service representative. If you use the service, it's an extra $10 charge. With the store manager's free help, I saved $10 and a late fee charge! Awesome service! I'll be back for sure to shop!
