I ended up doing three visits, and during each one she was patient, kind, thorough, and had every attribute I would expect of a good doctor. She's a bit old-school, but I found this approach to be genuinely helpful in her analysis. However, as another recent review stated, she is just completely IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of. I have had billing questions for her and have left her no less than 4 phone messages and multiple emails as well, and have not heard a single word back. When I brought this up to her during an appointment last summer, she mentioned they had a new phone system, and maybe that's understandable for a few weeks--but it's now been over eight months of trying to get a hold of her, and she is completely unresponsive. In my experience, Robert Wohlman of Northwest Gastroenterology Associates was a poor diagnostician…read more In 2003, I was sick, really sick. Almost every night, I suffered from severe heartburn. The only thing that I could do during these heartburn attacks was to sit up, browse the internet or watch television. Some nights I threw up, some nights I did not. Finally, I went to a primary care physician who thought it might be GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). She wrote a prescription for a proton inhibitor antacid and said that I should see a specialist if the drugs didn't help. After a month, there was no improvement, so I searched for a specialist. Having no idea of what gastroenterologist might be good, I relied on Seattle Magazine's top doctor list, which led me to Dr. Robert Wohlman. My first impression was positive. Dr. Wohlman examined my abdomen and took some notes regarding my symptoms. He prescribed Nexium, a different proton inhibitor from the one I had been taking. Another month went by, still no improvement. I went back, this time Dr. Wohlman doubled the Nexium dosage and setup an endoscopy appointment. Dr. Wolhman also performed the endoscopy. However, the endoscopy and stomach tissue biopsy found no abnormalities. Thank God I didn't have cancer. But I still had frequent nightly heartburn. Now I was getting so afraid of the pain, that I was reluctant to eat anything. A few more months went by, and after an especially severe and prolonged throwing up episode, I went back. For this appointment, I came prepared with questions inspired from researching gastroenterological diseases. For reasons unknown, Dr. Wohlman prescribed nortriptyline, a drug primarily used to treat major depression, and sometimes, albeit rarely, irritable bowel syndrome. At this point, I had lost all confidence in Dr. Wohlman's ability and motivation to determine the cause of my ailment. But I thought he could still be helpful to setup further diagnostic tests. Fingers crossed, literally. I already had an inconclusive endoscopy and didn't want a colonoscopy. So I thought perhaps I should get an ultrasound. To me my symptoms were similar to gallstones except for the pain between the shoulder blades and pain under the right shoulder. So for the next visit, I described to Dr. Wohlman my "new" symptoms of shoulder blade pain and right shoulder pain. I practically spelled out "GALLSTONES" to him. Subsequently, his nurse setup the ultrasound appointment. Lucky for me, the ultrasound showed gallstones, and I had my gallbladder removed that same week. Three tiny incisions later, my gallbladder and heartburn were now history. I've been heartburn free for over 4 years now. I'm saddened that Dr. Wohlman didn't spend enough time on me as a patient to figure out what was wrong. I feel that he was too eager to simply prescribe medication. Perhaps that is just what the medical establishment is like nowadays.

This is my full update review (I have removed my prior). TL;DR at bottom…read more I saw Doctor Chimes around one year ago for intense hip and back pain. Right away, it was clear he cares more about his personal time than his patients. He told me he wanted yes or no answers and not explanations to his questions (and wouldn't really let me explain things in full even when it would clarify things). After my MRI, which showed multiple spinal issues (bulging, herniated, parse defect, which is a fracture) and bursitis in the hip, he gave me a shot for the bursitis that had already begun healing on its own. During this time, I continually try to tell him the pain is not in the location of the bursitis anymore. He continually ignores or even speaks over me. At the end, I am again trying to tell him I feel pain elsewhere in my hip even though there is a little reduction after the shot (but I was numbed, so of course it would hurt less). To test my pain, he had me stand up from my chair...once. Worse, when we were done and I was alone in the room, when I tried to get up to put my pants on, the pain was so intense I collapsed. This pain happened again when I got home and tried to take one step up the stairs. During our last appointment, instead of listening to me, he tells me "Your pain doesn't match the MRI", and that tells me I'm about to be dismissed, but then it got worse. He continues with, "In his professional opinion, you just need internal pelvic floor PT". Why? Because I'm a woman...and he asked me 2 or 3 YES or NO questions around sex and did not let me explain the answers... I told him I didn't think so, but he disagreed. Well, after speaking with a Pelvic Floor specialist, she disagreed with his assessment. So, instead of doing that, I went to Evergreen Sports and Spine and met with a new doctor who actually took my pain seriously. With his help and a new PT, another MRI of my hip WITH contrast (he was surprised that Dr. Chimes didn't order contrast as it's needed for specific tears in the hip), we found that I had a CAM Morphology, that should have been showing up on my other X-rays and MRIs, but apparently weren't spotted and/or reported...and that I had a tear in the Labrum of my right hip. Later, they also found I had a small pincer as well. So, a double impingement. I had to have surgery because the surgeon I spoke with next agreed that the tear was too large to not do surgery if I wanted to not be in pain. No arguing. No trying to talk me out of it. They immediately agreed it was the best course of action. I had surgery April 2nd of 2024 to remove my CAM and the Pincer they found, and then repair the labrum. While I'm still in recovery, my pain is down 80% of the time outside of flareups when I over exercise during my strength training. I would never send a woman to him, as she will be dismissed. I was in so much pain that I was crying after collapsing at the office during my last visit. The only reason I am giving this location a 2-star is because the women at the front were incredibly nice. This review is leaving out a lot of other smaller issues I had during my short time there. Maybe if you're a man, it'll be worth it, but if you're a woman, go elsewhere. I cannot, in good faith, recommend this office or Dr. Chimes. TL;DR, Dr. Chimes ignored what I said and then gave a sexist course of action due to my gender. New doctor 2 months later discovered the issue and that I needed hip surgery to remove two bone defects and a tear in my labrum. I have now had surgery and am doing well in recovery with a large reduction in pain.

Before that time, I was a patient of a large medical practice in Issaquah for over a decade. I've always tried to eat well and stay fit through exercise. So it has been frustrating that the story I've received every year at my annual checkup from my primary care physician at this large medical practice is the same: some of your biomarkers are higher than ideal and we'll just watch them. No further investigation, no analysis of underlying causes, no next steps at all. After I saw Dr Woodall, I learned for the first time that there were steps that I could take to address the underlying causes of my high biomarkers. The steps that I have taken include both medicines as well as nutritional supplements based on scientific knowledge and lab testing of vitamins and nutrients my body is not absorbing well. And I'm confident that the steps that I have taken will help me stay fit, active, and healthy as I move into an older stage of life.
