Great spot for walk-ins. I come to have my dreadlocks washed and always love the laid back and happy atmosphere.

Only a few people are allowed inside at a given time and everyone was spread out. As soon as I walked in, I was asked to wash my hands and while I was doing that, the station where I was going to sit was getting another sanitizing wipe down. Everyone wore masks the entire time.

Bad review for Nick at Derby City Chop Shop:…read more I've been going to Derby City Chop Shop for a while and usually work with Patrik, who has always been great. Today I called because the online booking system was not working for me, and I was trying to make an appointment. Nick answered the phone and immediately acted annoyed that I even called. Instead of helping, he told me my phone was "the only phone in the world" not working and basically blamed me for the issue. When I asked if there was another way to schedule an appointment, he cut me off and said, "Listen buddy, I don't have time for this right now. Can you come in in 15 minutes or not?" The entire conversation was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional from start to finish. I even had to ask multiple times just to get his name because he refused to give it at first. I can honestly say after that interaction, I would never let Nick anywhere near my hair with a pair of scissors. Customer service like that is unacceptable, especially for someone representing a business people are supposed to feel comfortable walking into.

It's simple. Their model is such that their barbers might have a feeling that their time is more…read morevaluable than the people paying to have their hair cut. Timeline: check the website to join their queue. It says 30-45 mins. Great. Hopped in line at 12:30. Arrived at 12:45 (because it says to be early). At 12:55 the barber that was taking walk-ins finished a cut. I didn't get his name, but some "adult" that dressed like a 13 year old in a hat. He looked at me, scrolled his little tablet thing then proceeded to the back for 30 mins or so to eat beefaroni or whatever lunchable his mom packed for him. The other guys who apparently take appointments only couldn't be bothered. At 1:30 a different barber who finished another cut brought me back and cut my hair. Did a fine job. The problem is a certain level of customer service. We all get that kids gotta eat, but have the system adjust to an hour wait so other people that have stuff to do can plan accordingly. I know LEO weekly or whatever says it's a fantastic highlands spot, but plenty of good old-school barbers can remove hair from a person's head without the customer being made to feel like they're inconveniencing the gentle talent that works there. Oh well. I'm confident this entitled establishment has plenty of suckers to pay for a $30 haircut so they can say they got it at the 'cool place'

The wait is always minimal, the waiting area is comfortable, and the staff is always friendly. Even though COVID-19 has changed everything, they do an excellent of following COVID-19 practices and precautions. Alyssa is an amazing massage therapist. When I show up for an appointment she takes the time to talk to me to see if there is anything she needs to focus on and gives me a few minutes to get ready. My 90 minute massage is just about my favorite 90 minutes of the month. Alyssa knows my trouble spots and takes the time needed to do things like work out my left shoulder knot, and knows that magic spot to put me to sleep (my feet). The appointment usually starts with some conversation and catching up, but it doesn't take long for me to doze off. That's when she really works he magic. My most recent visit set a new record, and I think I was out in a bout 10 minutes. At the end of each appointment I always leave in better shape than when I got there, and completely relaxed. That's a testament to Alyssa's skill as a massage therapist. I've been going here for over 4 years...and as long as Alyssa is there's this will be my spot.

I went in July 1 2025 for hair & makeup for my much anticipated first ever maternity photo shoot!!…read moreHannah was my stylist. My makeup was 10/10. Highly recommended. However, I am absolutely heart broken to say my hair was not done well and not HOW I ASKED it to be done. When I made the appointment, I asked for heat rollers to be used because even though my hair curls & holds fine at home, when I get my hair professionally curled it never holds. THE OWNER REPLIED TO MY GOOGLE REVIEW SAYING MOST SALONS DON'T HAVE HEAT ROLLERS. I WAS TOLD BOTH TIMES I CALLED THAT HANNAH WOULD BE REMINDED TO BRING IN HEAR ROLLERS. SO NOT ONLY WAS I LIED TO, BUT THE OWNER COULDN'T EVEN BE EMPATHETIC AND APOLOGETIC BUT INSTEAD BLAMED ME FOR NOT ADVOCATING BETTER FOR MYSELF. The morning of my appointment, I called again to remind them to ask Hannah to BRING IN heat rollers to use on my hair. I requested them a third time when I got to the salon for my appointment. Hannah shrugged it off, saying she believed the "velcro rollers" would only give me volume and not curl and that she would curl my hair with a curler & pin it for a few minutes to let it set. I trusted the professional, but I should have stood up for myself and insisted on using heat rollers. Within 30 minutes of leaving the salon, the curls were gone. I was absolutely devastated. This maternity photo shoot is obviously a huge deal, once in a lifetime thing, and I just spent $155 (tip included) for great makeup and flat, straight hair. I was so disappointed that my requests were not met. My appointment was scheduled to be three hours long, but it only took two hours if that gives you any idea how much shorter "pinning my hair" took than the heat roller method would have taken. I rushed to Ulta, seeking some sort of last minute option as I was absolutely heart broken that I had just spent so much time & money on my hair that was an absolute fair for such an important event. Ulta curled my hair for $30 and those curls lasted for most of the photo shoot. They also wondered why the salon wouldn't do what I requested and even said heat rollers is the tried and true method that worked for our mothers and grandmothers, having no idea what Hannah meant by "velcro rollers that don't curl your hair." Anyways, I made the best of the photo shoot (which was cheaper than the hair & makeup) but having to drive in 3 hours & out 3 more hours and spend hundreds of dollars and take off work etc etc I would have liked to have gotten the hair style I asked THREE TIMES for. Great salon, great makeup, etc but fine hair'd girlies whose hair may not hold a curl super well beware Photo is my hair within 30 minutes of leaving the salon.
