Their "system was down" and they charged my card twice. They then said that I needed to pay in cash. I told them they charged my card twice and the manager was rude and apathetic. I showed her that the charges went through and she charged me twice. She insisted that their "system was down" even though the transaction went through twice and other people were able to complete their transactions. I scraped up enough cash to pay and they told me that I needed to resolve the double charge on my card with my card company. I have disputed the charges and they have not been helpful. I understand when technology doesn't work however, the manager was rude and not helpful. I will not be stopping here again. read more

My go-to rest stop whenever going up north from Los Angeles. I remember coming here as a child when my family and I lived up north and were coming to SoCal... now it's me driving the opposite way to visit my family. This TA has changed ALOT and looks nothing like it did back then. I think the only thing that looks the same is the TA at the entrance and the fact that Burger King is still there! I can't believe that we used to come here when Burger King was the only option for food here!! They used to have an arcade here back in the day too!! Wow, the memories I have coming here when I was young! Driving to Sacramento to visit family takes me 6-7 hours, depending on traffic, so this is always my first potty/stretch/gas stop. TA is a lot less scary and sketchy than the PETRO on the other side of the freeway. There's also more eateries inside this TA. Here you can get Burger King, Pizza hut, Subway, Popeyes, Taco Bell... and of course, gas station hot dogs and drinks. They sell some random truck stop items for the truck drivers and some random novelty gift items, such as gigantic candy bars. There is also a large selection of fountain drinks, coffee, bottle drinks, etc. The store overall is clean. The bathrooms are plentiful here and there is never a line. The Shell gas station in front has a ton of pumps! Rarely would you ever have to wait... maybe if you are traveling on a high travel holiday day. There is plenty of parking here and in the back, there is an area you can take your 4 legged friends if you are traveling with them. When I travel with my dogs, I always take them out for a potty break out back. The outlets are nearby, across the street practically and now there are also places to eat outside in the immediate area too. There's a Black Bear Diner, Pieology, The Habit or Smashburger (I can't remember which) and a handful of others too. Plenty of choices for food if you are hungry. Would I come here again? YES! Stopped here to fuel up the motorhome 10am on a Saturday. Staff inside were oblivious to customers. One guy sat behind the counter staring at his phone, another lady had to be told to tend to customers. The pumps didn't work and we had to move to another pump. Everything seemed neglected and partially abandoned. Paper towel dispensers all empty. Bought packaged donuts inside and they were stale even though they weren't expired. You can buy so much stuff here...pants, children's toys, gas station types of food (boxed ramen, cereal, chips, etc.), ice cream, sodas, etc. You could seriously buy almost everything you need here...they also have a little medicine shelf where you can get off the counter pills and diapers. They also have 2 sets of bathrooms that are very clean and a game station area (about 5 little claw games) for when your kids who might/probably are very annoyed with being stuck in a car for 5+ hours. There's also five fast food restaurants attached, kind of like a mall food court type of setting. They're all super slow, do not accept coupons or gift cards, but they do the job. The BK that is connected here does not offer the full menu--aka no "dollar" menu at all, which is really weird. The thing that annoyed me the most was how slow EVERY station was! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. not only are there tons of clueless travelers carelessly wandering around waiting to be hit by a car, it's utter chaos. i managed to choose the SLOWEST gas pump (and i have the video to prove it) AND somehow picked the gas pump with a broken sensor. to my horror, while standing watching the thousandth place of the gallon meter slowly increase, my gas tank overflowed and spilled all over my shoe. so much for a safety release. When you think about a gas station and restrooms - you normally want to cringe ? Not here - this state of the art recreational vehicle traveller / truck driver / LA to SF driver will find the best station in all of California I have ever found. This place has it all: showers, laundry, telephone room, small theater room, truck driver area, fast food businesses (4), large market, and super clean bathrooms. Yes, a gas station that has clean bathrooms - all the time - what a concept! They were packed - lines going out the door for the fast food, but at least the lines moved. Could not help but to pick up a ton of snacks, junk food, and real food for the trip. The only issue I had was waiting for a diesel pump that had the smaller nozzle to fit my SUV. They have lots of the large diameter diesel nozzles for the big rigs, but mine won't fit. Had to wait for one of 2 pumps that had the auto diesel nozzles. Price of diesel was way better than gasoline - love my diesel ! This business definitely has their act together and knows how to keep customers returning. This is one of the best TA locations. There are two women's bathrooms, which are extremely clean and well stocked. The gas here is a little pricey, but to be expected since it's one of the only gas stations around. There is plenty of parking and a number of gas pumps. There are a lot of food options: subway, popeyes, taco bell, and a large selection of snacks (chips, candy, etc.) and drinks. Everything is clearly labeled and the staff are always friendly. There are several large grass areas for dogs, which are always pretty clean and stocked with doggie bags. There is a grass area in the back if your dog needs a quieter and less crowded space. Love this place for a pit stop. We always make a stop here before/after the grapevine. read more

Just a quick stop for fuel on the way home from LA. Prices are always higher than closer to Bakersfield but it will do if you need it. They do have an RV/Truck wash outback that our friends said is really reasonable if you need a wash for your RV. read more

Fuel pump nozzle didn't work well at all. Kept shutting off. Took way too long to fill the tank. Frustrating. Bathrooms (men's and women's) were dirty. Only one person working the checkout lane. Long, slow line. Wish we had read the reviews before stopping. We won't be back, especially since there are several other options at the interchange. I love TA. Why? They always have quasi clean and plentiful restrooms and I always try to find one for our pitstops along I-5. This one was not any different than any other Travel Centers. I'm sure this was once a nice place with great amenities, but time has not be good to the TA Wheeler Ridge Travel Center. It looks like one of those places that was really great in the late 70s-early 80s. Those brown ceramic bricks, brown tabletops, brown bathroom doors. Everything is kind of rundown. The free bathrooms up the ante to a three star place. I mean really, what else do you need? Oh, some kind of healthy food option? Yeah, no, that's not happening here. The mini-mart doesn't have a single baked chip, fresh fruit, or unsalted seed/nut to be found. We got here at 7:50am so it was pretty quiet, but I could see how it could get real loud, real quick. I think with my full bladder and all I would have hightailed it out of there if there were screaming children. It would have just been too depressing. That is, unless I had laundry to do. read more

Walked into this TA #239 and there were so many lights on I swear I was somewhere in Vegas. I have a feeling their electric bill is off the charts. I didn't really need an energy drink, with all those lights on I woke up immediately. This spot is good for those of us who drive from LA to Nor-cal/SF all the freakin' time...or often anyway. I've found this place has a good deal on Energy Drinks, I got 2 RED BULL FOR $3.34. WHAT A DEAL! WHAT A DEAL! The 2 for $3.34 deal pretty much applies to all energy drinks too Monster, Red Bull, RockStar, etc... I was expecting to pay $5 for 2 Monster Lo-Carb but ended up walking out with 2 Red Bull Sugar-Free for a lot less. Gotta love those good deals when your on the road and special moments that make the drive all the more sweet. This was probably one of the cleanest rest stops I have been to also off the 5 Freeways. 5 star truck stop. Possibly the best Truck Stop in the state, for sure. This is the travelers oasis just north of the grapevine along the 5 freeway. It was a friendly site after driving close to 2 or more hours through LA traffic. Although I only used the convenience store and restrooms, they also have a small lounge with TVs to hang out in as well as showers if you're feeling rather grimy from your drive. Driving north on the 5 can be hell. Once you drive past LA and through the mountains all you find are places like this. I don't know why everyone is so harsh on this place. What do they want Caesar's Palace? It has what us travelers need: a clean restroom with no line and places to eat. From the outside this place looks like an old school rent-a-car center, but on the inside it looks like a small town 1980s mini-mall with a gift store and video arcade. I had breakfast at the Burger King there. It was a little before 8:00 a.m. so I beat the breakfast crowd and I got my food immediately. The food was alright, but the coffee was terrible. But coffee is better than no coffee especially when your brains are scrambled from early morning commutes. I also saw a girl that worked there that if this was over 15 years ago could've been the inspiration for Sir-Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back." Her pants were so tight I actually said aloud, "That girl's butt is so round." Then I could feel the man in the booth behind us eyes looking straight at it. Lastly if you can avoid it, don't buy gas at the Chevron across the street because it's a rip. If you continue to drive north for a few miles more, the gas is cheaper at the stations there. read more

Pretty impressive pit stop near the Grapevine! A lot of people stop here so it was pretty busy when we got there. But I just liked it because it wasn't sketchy and had such a great selection of items inside! Let's start off with the snacks!! SUCH a good variety of road trip snacks! When we make our treks from NorCal to SoCal we are definitely road warriors & somewhat experts on the various stops you can find along the grapevine. There are certain stops you want to avoid and don't forget to check out Bravoland. Yes, Bravoland (Tourist Trap). A little tiny western façade looking strip mall with restaurant & shops. But with all the different gas stops spread 30-40 miles apart from each other, our go to stop on our travels between NorCal & SoCal is this TA. This one is just located right before you hit the grade & head into the mountains at the end of the grapevine. Bathrooms are ok, several places to eat but the eating area doesn't seem to be cleaned up as often as I think it should. You'll always go in there and find at least 2-3 dirty tables. I always assume the trash left behind has to be from "tourists" who probably think everything gets cleaned up after them when clearly there are several trashcans & tray areas throughout the eating area. Also, they're about to open a new Black Bear Diner on the other side of the parking lot. Because they're opening up the diner this TA lost about 25% of its parking lot, so it's a bit cramped in the parking area now. I can only imagine it will get a little worse once the restaurant opens. This stop also has a designated dog grass area with a doggie bag dispenser. This one gets slightly busier than most stops because it's the last one you hit on the grapevine before you hit the mountains. read more

I have grown to love Travel Centers through the course of driving back and forth from Northern California to Southern California several times. Travel Centers have everything you need from a stop when on a long road trip! Food, Gas, Restrooms and more - all in one place. This location is the biggest Travel Center I have been to. It has EVERYTHING! Food: There is a restaurant if you would like to sit down and eat. There is also a really good selection of fast food restaurants if you want something quicker. Restrooms: All restrooms that I have been to at Travel Centers are clean. This one is right up there with the best. I KNOW how hard it is to find a decent restroom on a road trip. Trust me, you will want to stop here versus an random gas station. Plan stops ahead if possible! Gas: The gas pumps and filling area here are kept nice and clean. I am not sure if the pricing is competitive or not. The prices were reasonable enough for me and I'll take it, especially if I can get everything I need in one stop. I would definitely recommend this Travel Center for a road trip. Definitely a good stop for a large party since it is bigger and has more of everything than other Travel Centers. For a busy truck stop its pretty clean. Multiple little fast food joints inside and pretty much anything you could ever think about buying. From CB radio's to panty hose lol. Bathrooms are okay. Plenty of stalls some are dirty but just move on to the next one. Pretty busy gas station and also rather expensive. I will wait till lost hills to fill up. If I could give this place lower I would... maybe the restrooms are clean (I didn't use them)but I stopped for a quick bite at Taco Bell, for something cheap... uhhh far from cheap! Basically got raped, the prices of Taco Bell and all the fast food chains are jacked way higher than normal. Didn't notice that my dollar menu triple layer nachos were $3.09 here!! Wtf!!! Triple the price!?! I normally don't eat here but wanted the nacho fries. I had already paid without realizing until I looked at the receipt. The quality sucks and my other food items were also higher in cost than a normal Taco Bell. I could've stopped a few more exits down the freeway and saved $! What's so special about this place!? This is just about the first place you see after you pass Grapevine. It's a beacon off to the right in the distance and it screams "pit stop" because by this time, you've probably already been driving for at least an hour or two to get out of the LA metropolitan area. You can eat, go to the bathroom, get gas and scrape off the bugs from your windshield. Maybe, in a pinch, you could get your tire fixed. If you ask for much more than that, you're asking too much of this truck stop. It's a relic from the 70's that's in serious need of a remodel. read more
