It's a cozy spot to eat weather with a group or with a loved one, The music isn't too loud and it's always just chill music . The service whenever I have gone always feels Welcoming and warm , the waiter/waitress always come over to ask how my food is and if I would like something else . I also attended Tabaré while pregnant and they were able to cater to my eating needs and restrictions without a problem . Note-- I was told to get cash for payment from the ATM across the street from the place at a bodega. However, the bodega ATM ran out of cash and when I told this to the restaurant management- handing them what cash was left from the bodega machine (less than half of our bill) they FINALLY took my Visa as payment. First time trying Uruguayan food! We came here on a Friday night. We were able to get a reservation for 6 people the day of so that was pretty lucky of us. I'd recommend making advance reservations as the restaurant does get pretty busy. Since being my first time here, I don't have any expectations on what this type of cuisine has to offer. The drinks here were great! I usually get sangria when available, but I'd probably pass on it next time. Wasn't terrible but also wasn't anything special. Their specialty cocktails are definitely more refined in taste, and I do recommend opting for those instead. For food we got the Blood sausage toast, Churrasco, Grilled octopus casserole, chicken paté, kale salad, fish of the day, and mussels. My personal favorites were the churrasco (skirt steak) and the grilled octopus casserole. The flavors in both these two dishes were so rich, they definitely stood out the most. The fish of the day was served with kale and what seems to be a pumpkin purée spread. I also enjoyed this dish as well! The chicken pate and blood sausage were okay too, not my usual choice of dish, but it was good trying them out. My friend and I let the city guide our day, and we ended up here for dinner. Probably the best thing that could have happened to us! We snagged a table just before 7, and just in time to order a bottle of wine before their happy hour was over. Half off a bottle was the absolute best deal! The sauce that came with our order was perfectly savory and addicting. We also split the churrasco plate. The skirt steak was the most incredible thing either of us had ever had, and the chimichurri only made the experience better. The steak was perfectly medium rare, and so juicy. The potatoes and greens added an excellent mix of freshness and texture to the plate. I'll definitely be coming back for this plate alone! Came here for the first time for lunch on a Saturday and spent nearly three hours here! I would definitely recommend sitting outside at the front of the restaurant or outside in the back. The inside is very dark and when it's beautiful out, I think outdoors is a great option. The service was awesome. We had a few amazing people helping us throughout our meal, and I am so glad they let us stay for so long without rushing us out. Onto the food! They have a $20 brunch pre-fixe that comes with coffee, an alcoholic drink (wine, mimosa, sangria), and an entrée. It's a great deal. You can sub the coffee with tea if you want (which I did). I got the empanadas--one beef and one chicken--and I'm so glad I did. They were some of the best empanadas I've ever had because they weren't too dry. I also tried my friend's blood sausage sandwich which was delicious as well. So without the pre-fixe, my meal would have been $9 for the empanadas and $15 for the glass of wine, bringing the total to $24 (not even including the tea). So quick story, I'm in NYC on the weekends - I like walking around cities to get my steps in. I tell myself I'm going to grab a bite to eat because there are so many tasty options and I have a lot bookmarked on Yelp (and other sm platforms) I can check off. Here's the thing - I'm so effing indecisive when it comes to food and always think the hype is going to let me down...but I'm glad I found this place, Tabaré. I was hanging out in Dumbo on a park bench overlooking the view of the bridges and Manhattan and wanted a steak, a latin skirt steak. I walked through the TimeOut Market and although they had an awesome selection of different cuisines and sweets, no latin skirt steak in sight. Maybe I missed something upstairs but I'm pretty sure they didn't have what I was looking for. I must've been on that bench for a good hour and a half looking for a good place to take a chance on - that and the fact the humidity was un-effing-bearable I needed to cool down. After surfing through a few results that had mixed reviews, I landed on this spot in Williamsburg. Solid amount of stars and reviews (you can also tell a lot about a place that has a nice website, duh) intrigued me so I clicked through. Sorted through the photos of the food and they definitely had the steak I was looking for but I needed to confirm a few other things - do they require reservations? When are they serving dinner? Is this place a hole-in-the-wall (I don't mind holes-in-the-wall, just wasn't what I was looking that afternoon)? I double check their Yelp page and the site and I was glad to see that no reservations are required and dinner was starting at 5 - cocktails and empanadas were available until 5 came around. They have a nice dining room/bar area with a nice little dining area in the back, and also outdoors in the front. I wanted to be inside that day considering the high temps due to the humidity. I finally get to the spot, and I say finally because I had to go back to 14th St Manhattan and connect from there to get to Williamsburg, 23 mins before they start to serve dinner. When I walked in I felt a very intimate yet lively latin vibe - it was dimly lit and there was good music being played at a comfortable volume. I don't like it when I'm dining out and the server and I have to compete over the music to hear each other so these guys definitely had it right. I would definitely bring a date here. I was greeted by the bartender and let him know I wanted to grab a solo seat for dinner. He asked if I had a reservation, which I thought was a little odd and led me to believe Yelp and the website wasn't up-to-date but when I replied no, he said it was no issue. He told me to grab a seat anywhere I liked so I sat at the bar and he advised me that they won't start serving dinner until 5 o'clock as I mentioned previously. After I got myself situated, I excused myself to the bathroom to wash up. I took note of the back dining area which was really nice. The bathroom was clean and it looks like they take care of it on the regular so those are more points in my book. I got back to my seat and the bartender pours me a glass of water and leaves a bottle at the table. I should've asked if they had sparkling and opted for that. The tap-water is just way too warm, but it was what it was. I didn't opt for any other drinks, considering I don't drink sodas or alcohol. Bartender handed me a menu which confused me for a bit because it seemed like it was drink menu - it was smaller than size than a normal menu. I'm browsing through and noticed at the bottom of the menu, besides their wifi network and password, they only take cash and American Express. Odd but maybe that's a NY restaurant thing? I double-checked that with the bartender and he said they have an ATM in the back in case I needed it. Turns out I had enough cash on hand and continue looking over the menu. I get to the entrees and I find the Churrasco and I let the bartender I wanted that medium. I should've asked him if they could throw an over-easy egg on top. About 15-20 minutes later, one of the BEST steaks I ever had was served. The presentation was amazing! The steak was cooked to perfection - nice and tender and the color was just right. It came with a side of chimichurri which unlike other ones I've had, wasn't too salty. As you can see in the photo I took, the steak also came with a side of greens and these potatoes that were like no other, crispy on the outside and perfectly baked on the inside. All-in-all I would definitely come back to Tabaré and I'm willing to bet everything else on their menu is just as out-of-this-world as this steak! read more

Came here for that high quality Uruguayan beef! The waiter told me it's similar to Argentinian beef. The special of the night was rib eye and brought over from Uruguay. So my choice was a no brainer. We got the pate appetizer, they gave a lot and was tasty, but I really love pate so I wished it was a bit stronger of a taste. The skirt steak was good for the price and would've been better with more chimichurri. We arrived during happy hour and ordered a round of the old Cubano which was on their hp menu and mussels for appetizer. The drinks were good as was the appetizer. We realized the happy hour was ending soon so we ordered another round of drinks. We also ordered the churrasco steak and empanadas (chicken & cheese) with our entree. The 2nd round of drinks were not as good as the first as we both tasted the difference. I believe they were watered down and/or stingy with the rum. I had been looking for the perfect Argentinian restaurant in NYC for years, and it turns out I really just needed to cross the Rio de la Plata, and coincidentally the East River, to this charming, beautifully decorated Uruguayan establishment, complete with street signs from Montevideo. There is plenty for vegetarian diners here. We started with 2 of the delicious (baked, naturally) empanadas, one stuffed with Gruyère and one with kale, paired with a lively chimichurri. For mains we shared two of the daily special pastas, both vegetarian. For those who are unaware, this region of Latin America hosts a significant Italian immigrant community, and the quality of the pasta here was far better than many overhyped as-of-late Italian joints in the city. The smoked mozzarella ravioli was aptly smoky, and the pappardelle had the perfect texture. That being said, the dessert here is the highlight of the meal, especially the amazing decadent flan. It was served on a cast iron skillet to ensure the cheese stayed hot and melted. It can definitely serve as great hangover food lol! Went there with a group and the 3 of us were Uruguayan. We were all surprised to see that the "authentic Uruguayan restaurant" fried their empanadas instead of grilling / baking them. In our combined 75+ years in Uruguay we never had a fried empanada. Same with the "Uruguayan sausage" which wasn't served like it is in Uruguay. The provolone cheese was super greasy as well.
