I went to Taboo last night with a party of 9, and while I understand that they recently opened, there were too many fallbacks for me to give them 5 stars or say I would return. I've been coming to Cancun for 7 years in a row now and I think the hotel zone could do without this place. First off, they are over staffed. You are constantly being watched and attended to by their staff and being asked questions, which is okay in moderation but they don't understand it can be bothersome. Secondly, they have a USDA Beef Burger listed on the menu, however when two of my family members ordered it, an unusual burger came and was cooked the wrong way. You'd think that because they have a multitude of American tourists coming, they would know how to cook a hamburger. There was also seafood in the burger which does not qualify as an American burger. As it was my friend's birthday, they brought her a nice dessert, which unfortunately had 2 dead mosquitoes in it. They did the right thing by removing both burgers from our bill and giving us 3 desserts on the house - the moral thing to do, however the bill was incredibly expensive. The food on their menu is overpriced to say the least. If they want to attract more groups, they'll lower the cost. I expect appetizers to be in the 8-12 range, and they had appetizers on the menu for 19/20. I took away two stars due to the burgers, the cost of menu items, and the dessert mishap. read more

It was very busy but the ALL of the staff did such a great job at accommodating us and everyone in general, from the hostesses to the person helping us check out. My wife and I went here at the insistence of the company that owns the restaurant. We had a horrible experience at one of their other restaurants and they wanted us to give them another chance. (At our own expense, not theirs.) We LOVED this place. We ate there early, so it was not very crowded...in fact when we were seated we were the only people in the restaurant. It is a beautiful restaurant with a view of the bay. We were there for sunset and they had large floor to ceiling windows that gave us a wonderful view. We each ordered a specialty drink and while I don't remember the name of mine, I loved it. My wife felt like hers was too sweet...but that was like that everywhere in Mexico that she got a drink. My tenderloin steak was perfect and on par with many of my favorite steakhouses in the states. Overall this was by far our favorite restaurant in Cancun. read more

So the ambiance cool, the entertainment that's cool, however they don't respect the rules, as far as customer services . We booked the Restaurant (outside seating) 2 months in advance, we were late however within our grace period. They told us 15 mins for the table...one hour later no table...we finally get one inside in a damn corner an hour before they close so instead of telling us they won't be able to accommodate they seated us (party of 9) they. Rushed. Everything. Like. The food is in my chest. Because I was unable to digest it that's a visual of how fast they were rushing. The manager wasn't really understanding our complaints clearly because he kept sending us liquor for accommodations but that's not how it always works. I'm pretty sure had it been together(the customer service) we would have had a great time. Absolutely a spectacular experience. My guest and I visited from New York and Los Angeles and we were completely blown away! The service was exquisite. Hermes and Hugo and a couple other gentlemen took amazing care of us. They were both hospitable, knowledgeable and attentive at all times. There is literally someone with a Taboo uniform in every corner of the restaurant to ensure their guests are taken care of. Even the restrooms had an attendant outside each door to point guests in the right direction to either the men's or women's side. The food was out of this world delicious. We started with drinks. My guest ordered a cocktail and I ordered the most delicious virgin Pina Colada I have ever had with a touch of cinnamon. Then, they started us with an amuse-bouche of a delicious tomato gazpacho. Then they brought out this beautiful platter of stuffed goat cheese peppers, olives and a couple other delicious items. Then we had the Camembert with peaches and honey, the beet salad, grilled eggplant, tzatziki with a delicious flatbread, spinach ravioli, and finished with the carrot cake. They had an amazing saxophone player who entertained with a moody techno background that was so cool and original. And to top everything off fireworks which unfortunately we missed because we booked at 7:30 and we were so tired we finally had to leave at 10:30. Next time I will definitely book a table for 8 or 9pm. I will be honest, I am a restaurant snob. I travel for a living and have dined at the finest restaurants in Paris,London, Hong Kong, Dubai, and all over the United States. Came to have lunch at 1pm on a Tuesday with my wife for honeymoon trip. I think it was too early, so we were the only table here. I love the hardware of the restaurant and the ambience, by the seaside. Fantastic location. The food - we ordered an octopus dish and surf n turf. The tenderloin was huge portion and I wanted my tenderloin medium rare, it came rare. The service - because there were no customers, there are 2 people serving us. They were friendly people at first. Asking us why we came here, just socialize with us. Then these 2 guys starts to up sell some of their fine tequilas. They brought out 3 bottles to show us .. there were Don Julio real, don julio 1942, and class azul. I was interned in 1942 and the azul but in favor of the 1942, so I asked the price for 1942. And one of the guys said is 300 or something He said he was not sure, then they said they will go check the price for me. Then these 2 guys starts whispering Spanish behind me about something that I couldn't understand. After about 3 minutes( for checking the price) they came back with price of 500 for the 1942 and 400 for azul. Now I know they are trying to rip me off. I denied their offer afterwards. I checked the market price for 1942 was around 2200 for one bottle, so one shot should be 88 but for business they should sell it for around 300. And they charge me 500..I think for a restaurant business, it's perfectly ok to upsell, but if u change it to some sort of scam, then it's not going to be a pleasant experience. They gave us a complimentary Napoleon dessert and it was delicious! After I asked for the check, I asked the service on purpose if the tip was added, and he became super anxious and said no no no no no not included sir because he thought I was not going to tip him. We spent 3300 and gave each server 200 all in cash. They seemed pretty happy. When we were getting up from our chairs I saw one of the service was peeking inside the bill. It's just another detail that the restaurant should be aware of. It's a very bad habit and image for the establishment in front of the customers. Overall the ambience the view was great, and thank you guys for the cake. If the management can train their staff a bit more in detail and stop up selling the wrong way then I think it will be a great one. read more

The music starts around 7ish and 'put your F'ckin hands up' comes on every 15-20m or so to remind you to stay/get hype and in between theyre serving delicious food and sending sparklers around. They were able to speak intelligently about our food allergies and make sure to let us know what might have gluten or dairy in it. The presentation is so FUN - the flames on the drinks and food make it look awesome in the night lighting, the DJ stays bumping, and keeps things feeling like you're having a great time just chair dancing. He started with club music EDM, then moved to hip hop with a dope violinist playing to the beat and then later a saxophonist. Don't come here if you're trying to have a deep conversation w your person - but it is LIT and the food is delicious. read more

We made a reservation in advance advised the hostess we were celebrating a special event and then despite being well dressed were advised one members footwear was not in dress code and asked to leave!
